We waited 40 minutes for our food and once we received our meals, they were not warm to touch. The burgers were pink to a reddish color, which had we been asked how we like our burgers cooked we would have said well done. Ok, so our fault for not speaking up. Once we received our meal the server did not come back to check to see how we liked it. Upon clearing the plates the silver wear was spilled on our shirt, the hostess attempted to make up for it by offering free dessert- which was the best part of our meal, only now have a stained shirt... Accidents happen. I think overall it was the feeling of poor service that fuels our 2 star rating. Others were seated well after us and they received their food far before we did. Our server, Jeremy, was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow! It took 15 min (we timed it) for our server to ask us for our drink order. By that time, we were ready to give our food order. It took another 20 minutes after we had been waiting to get our check before he finally came over. We ask him for our check and he starts wiping tables and taking more orders before he brings the check. This other server was rocking her tables. This party of six sat down and had their food and drinks in less time than it took our server to come to our table for the first time. It was awful awful speed and service. Come on. It is so nice to find reasonably priced and well prepared vegetarian and vegan options while traveling. This is absolutely best prepared "bar food" I have ever had. The green pea and truffle hummus was fresh, tasty, filling and NOT fried. The vegetables and pasta were perfectly cooked (al dente for both) in the vegetable cavatappi--- ---Amazing!!! This review is based on our breakfast experience on a very busy weekend. We arrived for breakfast to order around 9:15 am; we were seated promptly with the choice of sitting in the bar or the dining area--either section offered views of the sprawling forested grounds--we agreed to the bar. I assume, due to the bustle of the morning, we did not have one attending waiter or waitress. We were attended to by a gal who I believe was the manager and 3 or 4 waiters/waitresses. Despite not having a personable interaction with any of the staff, our needs were always tended to. We chose the breakfast to order vs $18.00 buffet as we know our tendency to only eat one plate of food and the max price on the to order menu was $11.00. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros with potatoes and my husband ordered the French Toast with toasted hazelnuts and cinnamon-vanilla bean butter. My eggs with the ranchero sauce and creme fraiche were perfectly seasoned and flavored; my potatoes were crisp on the outside and fork tender--also perfectly seasoned. My husbands French toast was sweet and filling--he reports "slightly better than regular French toast". Our food was prepared and delivered in a timely fashion--it was hot on arrival. Overall, we had good breakfast food, on par with some of the breakfasts/brunches we've had in our home city (not the best of the best but good enough). The staff was attentive but not particularly personable. Pricing was decent and timing was expedient. Particularly for the price and quality of the food, we plan to try River Rock's lunch or dinner menu when we return to the lodge. read more

I've eaten here a couple dozen times over the years and have never been disappointed with the crab mac and cheese. If you feel you didn't get enough Dungeness crab, just let them know and they'll be happy to add more. The salmon chowder is really good too, although the "bowl" is really more like a deep plate....Service is always friendly, and they have a full bar as well. Extremely bad service..... didn't check on us once after we got our food, timing was decent for the food however a very large party sat next to us, limiting our service once we were done with our meal. We continued sitting down after eating. for about 20 minutes, waiting for our check and to ask if we could order some to go deserts and a dinner item. After we ordered our to go items we waited another 20 minutes so I went up to the manager to see if she could check on our to go food, because the waitress took our card without giving us a receipt stub for our meal and charged us. then after 10 minutes she asked us personally if we got our to go food. No, because you didn't bring us our to go items after waiting half an hour watching you hold onto my boyfriends card while ordering drinks for that big party! Very rude and unprofessional, after the manager asked about our food she put on her coat and left.... won't be coming back but the food was alright. Had dinner last night at River Rock. Not sure why there are so many mediocre or bad reviews. I rarely write a review but felt that the tables should be better balanced, so i decided to write this positive review. Very tasty food and amazing service. Had Steelhead tacos, steak salad and a bowl of their potato bacon soup. Food was delicious, very fresh tasting. Our waited was attentive and had great recommendations as well. The food was good! The drinks were not made correctly and the bartender (some bald snooty guy) was not very accommodating and sarcastic. All very overpriced. We went here because we were staying at the skamania lodge where it's located but realized after our first day there that we would be spending an arm and a leg if we continued to eat inside this place instead of venturing out of the lodge. Hard to beat the stunning outdoor table views. The steelhead trout tacos were so good I had them in two separate visits and the bison chili was some of the best we'd ever had. Dinner at River Rock 2 weeks ago, to celebrate a birthday. Arrived 6:00, about 20 min. later waitress passing by said "I'll bring you menus in a minute". 15 min later waiter took order. Soup, salad, and appetizer arrived (soup bland but filling). Brussel sprouts app was great. A while later the waitress came by and asked "may I interest you in dessert?" and seemed flummoxed when we told her we were waiting for our main dish. Dishes finally arrived, steelhead tacos were delicious. Stroganoff was bland, meat tender but little flavor - so overpriced but a BD treat which turned out not to be. After a long while the waiter came by, we asked for boxes and the check. We never saw him again so after waiting and not seeing either server again, emptied our wallets on the table and got out. An hour and 40 min. spent NOT celebrating. We enjoyed this restaurant in the past, it's a great location and view - but doubt we'll be going again. read more

Staying at Skamania Lodge on a busy holiday weekend we were prepared to wait everywhere we went. Very pleasantly surprised we walked in to the River Rock and immediately got a cozy table in the bar section. Had to wait a while for our server, but after that everything was smooth. I had the steak salad, which was delicious. My husband had the veggie burger, said he wouldn't order it again. We LOVE Skamania Lodge. Truly. I would wake up here every day if I could. The River Rock seems like the red-headed step child of this operation. The dishes are hit-or-miss. Burger? Hit. Crab cake sandwich? Hit. Truffle fries? Boom! BBQ Chicken Pizza? Sad, sorry, mess. The crust was suspiciously frozen tasting AND looking. The bbq sauce must have come from a bottle labeled "World's Weakest BBQ Sauce". It arrived in varying shades of brown and tan, no color whatsoever. Sprinkle some parsley or green onion on that thing! Remember, the EYES eat first. Horrible. Horrible. If you are considering the pizza, RE-consider. read more

We spent an enjoyable hour or so in the River Rock while staying at the lodge. My wife and I split a very good buffalo burger and fries and had plenty to eat. I had a vodka mule for $10 and thoroughly enjoyed it. My wife had a glass of their cheapest wine at $9 which was also good, but way overpriced. Staying at Lodge and decided to grab a bite. Lots of folks there for a convention and a wedding. We had a cup of chowder, split a Caprese pizza and split dessert, lemon cheesecake. Staff was less than helpful and continually made snide comments about any feedback we were trying to give. What do you call a "Special Wild Mushroom Salad" that contains absolutely no wild mushrooms whatsoever? I believe the proper term is a "rip-off." I complained about this to our waitress, expecting she would make an adjustment to our bill, or make a grand apology. Nope...nothing of the sort. She merely said, "Well I'll mention that to our chef." My wife's caesar salad had to have 1/3 of the lettuce cut of of it because it had gone bad. OMG! The food in this place is fantastic and not unreasonable in size. The Chicken Nachos were delicious with some specialty lemon, garlic, cilantro sour cream mix drizzled over the top. The Sweet and Sour hot wings..also pretty tasty. My sister n law had their massive helping of Garlic fries and they don't just lay them out on a plate. It's in some cone shaped metal gizmo sitting inside of a colored type of paper. The presentations were really nice. My brother took me here. He and his spouse absolutely love this place. The wait staff is really on top of things and always check back to see if they can get you anything else. It's just relaxing and amazing. If I ever get a romantic partner, we are definitely going down to Skamania Lodge in Stevenson WA and getting a room and just hanging out. Really huge fireplace and chairs within the bar area that you can get drinks and just kick back. I hope to come back here soon. The only reason I did not rate this restaurant one star is because of the fabulous setting. We stopped for food after a day of golf. It took a long time for someone to bring menus to the table and get our drink order. Our food order was finally taken and when the food arrived, it was cold. The nachos were some of the worst i've ever had with large clumps of cold cheese--not appetizing. They had been sitting somewhere for a very long time before served to us. We didn't have time to send them back. We'll not make this mistake again. It was definitely not worth the long wait. --And we did not go at a busy time. :( read more
