I had an egg waffle with red bean filling. The filling was not refreshed made and probably spoiled. I ended up going to the ER after having those because of food poisoning. Why I can tell the waffle is the culprit? Because I was the only who ate the waffle and other people in my group didn't eat it, they were perfectly fine. Do not eat there. read more

I've been an egg puff connoisseur since birth. It is my obsession and I prefer these over say, egg tarts (daan tats) because they're freshly made, a little bit crispy on the outside warm and tasty in the center. These egg puffs are by no means the best. But they're pretty tasty. I could put down a whole bag while walking down the few blocks that consist of Chinatown. They're more expensive here than in NYC though. $2.50 for 30 pieces? Meh, it's cheaper in NYC for the same amount. Nonetheless, a solid (and only) place in Boston to indulge in the egg puff craving. For those who have never tried it, taste wise it is similar to that of a (sweet) waffle, and the inside texture of a pancake in a roundish shape. read more

Egg Puffs - Egg puffs from the little old lady. Surprisingly she let me photograph it - Waffles Near Me - Boston, Massachusetts

Awesome dessert! It take a couple of minutes to get the fresh waffle but that's exactly what you get - a waffle as fresh as can be. Very delicious! I've tried the classic, coconut and chocolate, coconut being my favorite. Definitely worth a try, very cheap and the waffle is a fantastic dessert or snack for a walk around Chinatown and the area. Highly recommended! read more

I LOVE THE EGG PUFFS HERE!!!! I've had these delicious eggs puffs since I was a kid. One day they were gone after the building underwent a renovation. I was heartbroken for over a decade! Egg puff lady has been back for a few years. Her tiny stall is hidden all the way back in the building. Cash only. Egg puffs are $3. That's dirt cheap! My friends buy her egg puff batter so they could make it at home too. This place is a hidden gem. Tip: I like the egg puffs that were cooled down before she puts them in a bag. It's crispy on the outside and airy soft on the inside. I notice that the egg puffs aren't as crispy if she puts the eggs puffs straight from the waffle maker into the bag. read more

I grew up in the city and on the egg puffs from here. In my heart, they'll always be the original. I usually try egg puffs from other places if they offer them and those just don't compare. The egg puffs here are.. doughier? or fuller tasting if that makes sense and I like that the outside isn't crunchy. I also like that they are not overly sweet. Always a cheap delicious snack! read more

I grew up eating egg puffs from carts in NYC Chinatown or Hong Kong. Man, did I love these little chicken egg waffles. It was such a treat after skulking around the fishy streets to get a piping- hot little bag filled with waffle-y egg shaped delights! Bonus: they were only $1 for 20 pieces (1 bag)! Now to my disappointment. We found this cart tucked inside a mini-"food court" in Boston's small china town. When we walked in, we were the only customers and were stared down by all the people working there. When we got to the cart there was a small stack of pre-made egg waffles. They cost $3.50 (this is a big markup people, it's essentially a cup of flour batter) and she handed us a cold waffle in a bag. The flavor was good but it was just an old waffle. We walked out as they all stared at us. What a bummer! Maybe I'll just have to return when it's prime-busy-egg-waffle-time to get a fresh one (when's that?) read more

Can't write a long review for this place because it's REALLY small and is located inside a very hidden canteen in china town. An old man was selling it, I wanted to ask for new egg puffs but he insisted on giving me the old one that was placed on the display for a while. I'm not sure but I think this place takes cash only. The egg puffs are really good (even when cold) though. Although not as good as the ones you can have in Hong Kong or some asian country, it will satisfy your cravings if you want it. The waffle is really thick and for 5 dollars, I would say the piece was fairly big. I ordered the plain one because I don't like toppings. read more

I always miss my Grandma when I buy egg puffs here, I don't know why... Anyways, cheap and delicious. I would buy two of these and finish one on the way to the movie theater and then sneak the other one in and enjoy it with my movie. It's not illegal... $2.75 for 30 little itty bites. I find it weak when people can't finish their own bag. That's how I test my friendship. If you can't do it, I can't trust you. Sometime the old lady is not there and I get a little bit sad, but she's usually always there. Although the time isn't consistent. She take days off I guess :( read more

Okay, maybe I'm being a bit generous with the rating (these egg puffs are really, really good, but they're not blow-your-mind amazing), but considering that this is the only place outside of Hong Kong that I've been able to find *good* egg puffs, I have no qualms with handing out that final star. The puffs are warm, simultaneously soft and crunchy (in the good way), and just the right texture and taste. I almost feel like I'm back on the island whenever I come by here. Only downside is that you may have to deal with pushy/bossy old Asian ladies who cut you in line, but that's an issue with clientele, not the shop itself. read more

Yum. This place really reminds me of my childhood. One bite and I'm sent back to Hong Kong fighting my sister over these delicious little snacks. I had to ask in Canto in order to get a freshly made batch, but if they look old and cold, don't get them! These things are meant to be eaten fresh and piping hot! Even my egg hating boyfriend enjoyed them :) read more

If you've ever looked at a waffle and said, "Why aren't you portable? Why aren't you shaped more like a series of small, connected eggs that can be broken off into individual, bite sized orbs that I can pop into my mouth while walking down the street?" Then you need... egg puffs! For only one easy payment of $2.75, 30 egg puffs can be all yours! Be sure to get them hot, or much like a waffle, they become stale and unappealing! Call now. Update: Now that I'm well versed in egg puffs and have traveled far and wide to try them, I can say with conviction that this little stand in a pseudo-food court in Chinatown makes the BEST egg puffs I have ever had. Sweet, warm, chewy, fluffy, awesome. Puts NYC to shame. read more

I rarely remember my childhood, contributed in part to my short term memory and another to my five older sisters who tormented my innocence to a degree where my childhood is just a period of pure black. BUT THIS. This little shop I remember as my haven during the long trips from nh to chinatown. These egg puffs were my solace, my angel. Literally, we go way back - back when they used to be $1.75 a bag instead of $3.25. Wow dat inflation. So these are similar to the egg puffs you get on the streets in Hong Kong. However I prefer these more (one of the few things in America I like more than Hong Kong). One, they are sweeter and more buttery. Two, they aren't hollow and are soft inside. Three, it's run by the sweetest old sweet lady with her cart. Can't get better than that folks. One con is that this place can be tricky to find. Just gps around this area until you see a small banner ad with egg puffs, viet sandwiches, and the sushi place Avanti - it's just inside past the small doorway. read more

Egg puffs :') I had these once a long, long time ago when I visited Beijing and havw been reminiscing about them ever since. Finally, I've hit upon a small cart, tucked inside a shopping center right next to Avana sushi, that makes legit egg puffs. For $3, you get a sizable sheet of pillowy, eggy puffs that taste like mini waffles but with a better flavor - kind of like a less sweet yellow cake. They're crispy and golden on the outside and squishy on the inside, and they're such a joy to tear off one by one and eat. The puffs are warm, smell delicious and vanilla-y, and just make me really happy and nostalgic. It's quite a big portion for a single person but perfect to share. The lady manning the cart only accepts cash, so come prepared! Authentic egg puffs are rare hereabouts so definitely give this place a try! read more

Egg Puffs is in the same building as Cafe de Lulu and Fei Fan Eatery- hidden at the way back. 3 flavors to choose from. Vanilla and some spicy rendition that doesn't sound all too appetizing (forgot what the 3rd option was). When it was my turn, I told popo that I wanted it in vanilla. She already had a skillet of 1 ready made egg puff. Secretly inside, I didn't want those...egg puffs are the best when they're freshly made. Popo looked at me and asked if it was okay if I got the ones on display :((( I guess she noticed the silence and the disappointing look in my eyes. She then said "$2 okay?" lol. I laughed and said "Okay." So I left Egg Puffs with a $0.75 discount. Score? lol. It was still warm and had a little crunch which is the best part, though nothing beats it fresh off the mould. It indeed tasted like vanilla, much like a slightly sweetened waffle. Haven't eaten this in a decade or so. It is overpriced @ $2.75 for molded dough but what can you say...popo holds a monopoly over gai dan jaai in Chinatown so she can jack it up as much as she wants :P Despite that, I will come again the next time I'm looking for a nostalgic snack. read more

These little egg puffs pop up on my Instagram feed from time to time, and I have always wondered what they taste like. I had the opportunity to try some out in Boston's Chinatown. While I enjoyed them, it isn't anything to go out of the way for. The egg puff stand is a little hard to find - it's located inside of a small food court, so don't look for an Egg Puff sign as you're walking the streets. Simply look for the building number (42), and make your way to the back where you'll see a pink 'Egg Puffs' sign. You get 30 egg puffs for about $3. The egg puffs are warm and taste a lot like an inflated waffle. I did like the texture of the puffs - slightly crunchy on the outside and airy on the inside. 30 puffs does seem like a lot, but I suggest getting one order per person if you're coming with friends. - Cash only!!! read more

$3.50 for an egg puff, and it wasn't even that good. I like my egg puffs freshly made- they had 2 that were ready and they insisted on selling those ones. I asked if they were hot, and the guy said yes. Well, yes, the egg puff was warm, but burnt on the outside, yet was really crispy on the outside. The insides was soft and mushy.. gross. A perfect egg puff is supposed to be nice and crisp on the outside (not burnt), and soft and pillowy on the inside. Also, $3.50 is very overpriced. I've had way better egg puffs in Hong Kong for almost half the price, at $2. In conclusion, these egg puffs are overpriced and lousy. read more

I'm glad I finally tried these! The egg puffs were warm, crispy and crunchy on the outside, and perfectly soft and fluffy on the inside. What a treat! The price is now $3.75 for one piece, but it's fairly large. One should be enough, but if you don't feel like sharing -- get two. read more

Am I missing something here??! I think I am.... Everyone said this place was the bomb and to buy two bags....I obediently followed suit: 1. I saved room in my tummy after lunch. 2. I dragged my sister to go on this egg puff hunt w me (no actual store front or anything.) Totally hyped up the place bc of all the other Yelp reviews. 3. I had my cash prepared. (I NEVER have cash, a CC kind of girl.) 4. I literally almost got in an argument and knocked Chinese people over trying to park in the snow. 5. I pushed my baby in the stroller through the dirty little "food court" (hardly a food court). I could not believe that this business is really just a little stand in between two unpopular Japanese and dumpling food stalls (more like windows!) Maybe it's because I'm originally from California, where there's plenty of good, authentic asian food and snacks, maybe I'm picky. The egg puffs were made fresh, right off the skillet, I even chatted with the little old lady. She was kind enough, quickly took my money and gave me my 2 bags of puffs, but between my sister and I, we could not even finish ONE bag. It was that bad. The puffs were hot, and the flavor was very bland. but the consistency is what I had a major problem with. I think they were undercooked or something. The middle was still soggy, and doughy.. the outside was not crunchy enough. I did not like the egg puffs! humph! The thing I cannot understand is.. we didn't even go during a crowded time, so it's not there was a big rush to make batches of puffs resulting in an undercooked batch. Chinatown never fails to disappoint me. Time after time... Good thing we frequently return to good ol CALI!! read more

So glad I came across this place during some time in Boston. It's run by a lil old lady and she rocks! Ok..she doesn't really talk much...I dunno if she even made eye contact with me or my girlfriend the first time we went (the second time we went was ten minutes later)...but, she still rocks. I can't believe people would complain about the price...! Come to NYC and see how much they cost over here! OR stuff some cheap pancake balls in yo moufffffff! read more

I really like egg puffs in Hong Kong, so I gave this place a try. It was really bad. It felt like some of the parts weren't even cooked through, because it was really soft without being chewy. I really, really, really hate wasting food, but I didn't eat about half of the egg puff because it tasted raw. At $3.50 including tax for it, it's pricey for the quality and quantity. Definitely do not recommend! read more

This lady is kind and efficient. Not the greatest egg puffs but price is relatively low and it does the trick for me.

Worst service ever!!!! The lady give us a cold one, and treat us like we own her millions. The egg puffs is also bad, too soft, and the inside is not fully cooked, if you really like egg puff, don't ruin your memory by this! read more

There's no sign outside, unless I missed it.. so I just went by the address. It's in the back of this food court type area where Avana sushi is Their cute egg puffs sign with the chicken on it is pretty hard to miss If you've never had these before, think: waffle or pancake batter in a different shape/template. Sweeter than a normal waffle, but since there are flat and doughy surfaces, it's both crispy and soft I've had them in LA and the Philippines too. They're all pretty comparable. Haven't had ones that have blown my mind. When I first saw them, I thought they were hollow inside, but nope! I'll probably be coming back here when I'm in the Ctown area just to satisfy a craving :P Only disappointment was that she had one sitting on her tray before we got there, and when I ordered, I expected a new one but she gave me that one :/ My friend liked it though cause he said he likes his more stale/crispier.. Lucky me though! My friend bought another one so we could try a new batch- much softer and SO WARM. I like it better that way read more

To be honest, where else are you going to get egg puffs in Boston?!?! I've been coming here for the past 10 years and it's still hands down my favorite egg puff place. The outside of these egg puffs is slightly crunchy, whereas the inside is soft, fluffy and warm. They're basically the asian version of waffles, but better. Also, these are still my favorite egg puffs, even after trying out the ones in NYC and the SF Bay Area. They're never cracked or dry. The quality has always been consistent and you can even buy the batter to take home and make yourself! There's about 30 egg puffs per bag ($3). Bring cash. read more

I've never had egg puffs before, but my eyes were opened when my friend insisted we go here one afternoon in Chinatown. These are AMAZING - think puffy waffles hot off the iron. Not too sweet and fluffy if you have them fresh! Make sure you get there well before 6pm, because they usually run out early. Also do note this is located in the back of the tiniest food court I've ever seen. The ventilation isn't great, so it's probably easier for one person to wait in line if you're there with a larger party. read more

No pic of my $3 Eggpuffs coz my battery went pear up. I can't read characters, Mandarin or Cantonese. I made my way thru the debris, trash, congested traffic, crooked uneven streets and crowds of people. I found the Eggpuffs in the back of a tiny cramped noodle shop? It's not a restaurant and I don't know if the place served noodles. Ok, it really looked like a prop set in the back lot of a Hollywood movie for Jet Li or Jackie Chan. Although it wasn't. It sure could be one. Manage your way up stairs with a little bell when you enter. There's steam coming out of pots. Movie extras pretending to look at a menu but you know the gothic chick with colored streak in her hair can't read the menu either. The floor creeks with every step. Glance over at workers and they make an extra effort not to make eye contact. Overly acting like chopping veggies is where their laser focus must remain. I'm questioning them in my head like the main character as an undercover cop if they can speak & understand English. Although I'm Asian too. As I inch closer and closer to the back of the space saying excuse me to the what seems to be movie extras on the low counter barstools. I'm checking their every move. Don't know if one of these are a perpetrator I'm searching for. They are sitting silent almost like I walked in at the middle of their Chinatown Mannequin Challenge. I'm saying to myself don't any of you make any sudden moves as I reach for my waistband. Except I don't have a gun and I don't have a legit gold badge. My pants are jus falling coz I forgot my belt. I reach the Eggpuff counter without incident. I point and hold up 1 finger. The Chinese lady calls my bluff and raises 3 fingers. She fills my brown bag with hot Eggpuffs and joins her hands together and nods. I give her $3 cash and return the same gesture hands in prayer, nod and I leave saying Namaste. Wow what a blow by blow just to get Boston Eggpuffs without technology to guide me. I looked for any signs of chicken and eggs and found it. Thanks for tuning into Mel M's Boston Chinatown adventure. No movie extras or chickens were hurt in this episode. Mel M Yelp 17:111 read more

I still don't really understand what I'm eating. Waffle-batter round puffs? Sweet pastries? Easter Peeps pre-hatch? All questions aside, these fluffy delicacies from heaven are delicious and worth every quarter I have to scrounge from behind my bed. Located in the same small "mall" plaza as Avana Sushi, this little stand serves you 30 pieces of egg puffs for $2.75, cash only. I definitely don't recommend these as a meal, but they are a perfect after-sushi dessert. Plus, they are made and kept in a waffle iron that keeps them perfectly warm when they are served to you in a humble brown paper bag. For those unfamiliar with this marketplace area, this food stand does not have seating, is not in a restaurant, and is solely good for take-out reasons. Grab a bag and go on a walk around Chinatown or towards the water and see how many minutes (seconds) it takes you to finish the whole bag. My record is 3 minutes. All challenges welcome. read more

don't understand why this place has such high rating. It's no where near authentic egg puffs First of all the egg puffs are not fresh, it was premade and just sitting on the counter waiting for customers. By the time I got my egg puffs, it was cold. Second it tasted like the egg puff is made from pancake batter, it's very doughy and rather flavorless... Which is definitely not how authentic egg puff should be. The owner looks angry all the time. good service has gone to die at this place. read more

Wicked good waffle place with exception waffle balls. It's at the corner or Beeche and Harrison in the multi-restaurant (small) food court type place- and it's towards the back so you have to fight your way past a few other spots (which are also delicious) to get in the waffle ball line- I believe they call them egg puffs here but either way they are awesome, there is 6 or 7 add- inns like Chocolate chips, raisins, red bean and a few others...... but honestly the plain is fantastic- they do NOT have sweetened condensed milk or any topping at all to give (other than the actual mic in toppings) so be warned to go in with a bubble tea or drink- or you could also just get at one of the stands behind you if you are already they're. Mmm sooo gooood! read more

Are people seriously complaining about the price? How much do you pay for your Starbucks coffee? This is a tiny independent business run by an elderly couple (I've only seen the little old lady, but apparently there is a little old man, too). They are there day in, day out - even when you're not, even when it's pouring out and they get very little business. As for the egg puffs themselves, I LOVE them! Little sweet poofy bites of deliciousness that are crispy on the outside and soft/doughy on the inside. The only place to get egg puffs in Boston, and for that alone I am grateful. If you grew up eating these, one single eggy bite will transport you back in time to your childhood, holding your parents' hand while you skipped down the street, oblivious to the adult pressures that would one day consume your life. 2.75 is really cheap for some delicious time travel. In fact, I'm going to go and buy a bag or two today! Maybe, even 3. read more

Like being punched in the face I see the review, I believe them, it makes sense. There is something that seems inherently right about these egg puffs that are being described in the reviews. Three days later after I'm walking through the door of that strange mini mall on the corner of beech and going up to the lady in the back. There isn't a question of what I'm getting, just a confirmation that I only need one order and I'm handed a nondescript brown bag with egg puffs inside. Small egg shapes in a collapsing sheet that break from the rest with a light pull. And I'm popping one into my mouth, and yes it's like a little bit of waffle, slightly sweetened, and I'm happy. read more

After pre-dinner(heeheh) at Avana Sushi and dinner at Gourmet Dumpling House, my roommate and I got a bag of these to snack on during our drive back to NYC. The cart is located inside a "food court" that also houses Avana Sushi and Dumpling King. For $2.75, you get a bag of 30 pieces. I've had my fair share of "egg puffs" or hot cakes, as they're more often called in NYC, and these were certainly one of the better batches that I've had. Although my batch was not made to order(she was closing in 10 minutes), they were still warm when I got them. The egg puffs are mildly sweet, fluffy and chewy! Definitely more dense than what I've had in the past, too -- several of the carts that I tried in NYC Chinatown serve hollow hot cakes, grrr. Anyway, they're quite addicting and go quickly, especially if you're poppin' two or three at a time, ha. Get two bags. Or three. I regret not doing so, partly because we were saving room for Mike's Pastry but the line ended up stretching down two blocks, booo. read more
