Awesome dessert! It take a couple of minutes to get the fresh waffle but that's exactly what you get - a waffle as fresh as can be. Very delicious! I grew up eating egg puffs from carts in NYC Chinatown or Hong Kong. Man, did I love these little chicken egg waffles. It was such a treat after skulking around the fishy streets to get a piping- hot little bag filled with waffle-y egg shaped delights! Bonus: they were only $1 for 20 pieces (1 bag)! Now to my disappointment. We found this cart tucked inside a mini-"food court" in Boston's small china town. When we walked in, we were the only customers and were stared down by all the people working there. When we got to the cart there was a small stack of pre-made egg waffles. They cost $3.50 (this is a big markup people, it's essentially a cup of flour batter) and she handed us a cold waffle in a bag. The flavor was good but it was just an old waffle. Can't write a long review for this place because it's REALLY small and is located inside a very hidden canteen in china town. An old man was selling it, I wanted to ask for new egg puffs but he insisted on giving me the old one that was placed on the display for a while. I'm not sure but I think this place takes cash only. The egg puffs are really good (even when cold) though. Although not as good as the ones you can have in Hong Kong or some asian country, it will satisfy your cravings if you want it. I asked if they were hot, and the guy said yes. Well, yes, the egg puff was warm, but burnt on the outside, yet was really crispy on the outside. The insides was soft and mushy.. gross. A perfect egg puff is supposed to be nice and crisp on the outside (not burnt), and soft and pillowy on the inside. Also, $3.50 is very overpriced. While I enjoyed them, it isn't anything to go out of the way for. The egg puff stand is a little hard to find - it's located inside of a small food court, so don't look for an Egg Puff sign as you're walking the streets. Simply look for the building number (42), and make your way to the back where you'll see a pink 'Egg Puffs' sign. You get 30 egg puffs for about $3. The egg puffs are warm and taste a lot like an inflated waffle. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit generous with the rating (these egg puffs are really, really good, but they're not blow-your-mind amazing), but considering that this is the only place outside of Hong Kong that I've been able to find *good* egg puffs, I have no qualms with handing out that final star. Egg puffs :') I had these once a long, long time ago when I visited Beijing and havw been reminiscing about them ever since. Finally, I've hit upon a small cart, tucked inside a shopping center right next to Avana sushi, that makes legit egg puffs. For $3, you get a sizable sheet of pillowy, eggy puffs that taste like mini waffles but with a better flavor - kind of like a less sweet yellow cake. They're crispy and golden on the outside and squishy on the inside, and they're such a joy to tear off one by one and eat. Vanilla and some spicy rendition that doesn't sound all too appetizing (forgot what the 3rd option was). When it was my turn, I told popo that I wanted it in vanilla. She already had a skillet of 1 ready made egg puff. Secretly inside, I didn't want those...egg puffs are the best when they're freshly made. Am I missing something here??! I think I am.... Everyone said this place was the bomb and to buy two bags....I obediently followed suit: 1. I saved room in my tummy after lunch. 2. I dragged my sister to go on this egg puff hunt w me (no actual store front or anything.) Totally hyped up the place bc of all the other Yelp reviews. 3. I had my cash prepared. (I NEVER have cash, a CC kind of girl.) 4. I literally almost got in an argument and knocked Chinese people over trying to park in the snow. 5. I pushed my baby in the stroller through the dirty little "food court" (hardly a food court). I could not believe that this business is really just a little stand in between two unpopular Japanese and dumpling food stalls (more like windows!) Maybe it's because I'm originally from California, where there's plenty of good, authentic asian food and snacks, maybe I'm picky. The egg puffs were made fresh, right off the skillet, I even chatted with the little old lady. She was kind enough, quickly took my money and gave me my 2 bags of puffs, but between my sister and I, we could not even finish ONE bag. It was that bad. The puffs were hot, and the flavor was very bland. but the consistency is what I had a major problem with. I think they were undercooked or something. The middle was still soggy, and doughy.. the outside was not crunchy enough. I did not like the egg puffs! humph! To be honest, where else are you going to get egg puffs in Boston?!?! I've been coming here for the past 10 years and it's still hands down my favorite egg puff place. The outside of these egg puffs is slightly crunchy, whereas the inside is soft, fluffy and warm. They're basically the asian version of waffles, but better. Also, these are still my favorite egg puffs, even after trying out the ones in NYC and the SF Bay Area. They're never cracked or dry. I've never had egg puffs before, but my eyes were opened when my friend insisted we go here one afternoon in Chinatown. These are AMAZING - think puffy waffles hot off the iron. Not too sweet and fluffy if you have them fresh! Make sure you get there well before 6pm, because they usually run out early. Also do note this is located in the back of the tiniest food court I've ever seen. There's no sign outside, unless I missed it.. so I just went by the address. It's in the back of this food court type area where Avana sushi is Their cute egg puffs sign with the chicken on it is pretty hard to miss If you've never had these before, think: waffle or pancake batter in a different shape/template. Sweeter than a normal waffle, but since there are flat and doughy surfaces, it's both crispy and soft I've had them in LA and the Philippines too. They're all pretty comparable. Haven't had ones that have blown my mind. When I first saw them, I thought they were hollow inside, but nope! I'll probably be coming back here when I'm in the Ctown area just to satisfy a craving :P Only disappointment was that she had one sitting on her tray before we got there, and when I ordered, I expected a new one but she gave me that one :/ My friend liked it though cause he said he likes his more stale/crispier.. No pic of my $3 Eggpuffs coz my battery went pear up. I can't read characters, Mandarin or Cantonese. I made my way thru the debris, trash, congested traffic, crooked uneven streets and crowds of people. I found the Eggpuffs in the back of a tiny cramped noodle shop? It's not a restaurant and I don't know if the place served noodles. Ok, it really looked like a prop set in the back lot of a Hollywood movie for Jet Li or Jackie Chan. Although it wasn't. It sure could be one. Manage your way up stairs with a little bell when you enter. There's steam coming out of pots. Movie extras pretending to look at a menu but you know the gothic chick with colored streak in her hair can't read the menu either. The floor creeks with every step. Glance over at workers and they make an extra effort not to make eye contact. Overly acting like chopping veggies is where their laser focus must remain. I'm questioning them in my head like the main character as an undercover cop if they can speak & understand English. Although I'm Asian too. As I inch closer and closer to the back of the space saying excuse me to the what seems to be movie extras on the low counter barstools. I'm checking their every move. Don't know if one of these are a perpetrator I'm searching for. They are sitting silent almost like I walked in at the middle of their Chinatown Mannequin Challenge. I'm saying to myself don't any of you make any sudden moves as I reach for my waistband. Except I don't have a gun and I don't have a legit gold badge. My pants are jus falling coz I forgot my belt. I reach the Eggpuff counter without incident. I point and hold up 1 finger. The Chinese lady calls my bluff and raises 3 fingers. She fills my brown bag with hot Eggpuffs and joins her hands together and nods. I give her $3 cash and return the same gesture hands in prayer, nod and I leave saying Namaste. Wicked good waffle place with exception waffle balls. It's at the corner or Beeche and Harrison in the multi-restaurant (small) food court type place- and it's towards the back so you have to fight your way past a few other spots (which are also delicious) to get in the waffle ball line- I believe they call them egg puffs here but either way they are awesome, there is 6 or 7 add- inns like Chocolate chips, raisins, red bean and a few others...... but honestly the plain is fantastic- they do NOT have sweetened condensed milk or any topping at all to give (other than the actual mic in toppings) so be warned to go in with a bubble tea or drink- or you could also just get at one of the stands behind you if you are already they're. These are amazing and a great value. I grew up in NYC and these could easily hold their own against the egg puffs in NY's Chinatown.

An older Chinese woman runs this egg puff fry stand in a small food court. She is warm and friendly though she doesn't say a lot. Apparently the egg puff is a Chinese spherical answer to the waffle I haven't found in new York (it's taken off in Boston though.) At the end of the somewhat meandering bland place is her grill. She serves her waffles hot and as you tear them off the waffle/honeycomb looking structure, they taste like mini pancakes and are delicious. Just the thing to distract from loneliness. read more

I definitely don't recommend these as a meal, but they are a perfect after-sushi dessert. Plus, they are made and kept in a waffle iron that keeps them perfectly warm when they are served to you in a humble brown paper bag. For those unfamiliar with this marketplace area, this food stand does not have seating, is not in a restaurant, and is solely good for take-out reasons. It's no where near authentic egg puffs First of all the egg puffs are not fresh, it was premade and just sitting on the counter waiting for customers. By the time I got my egg puffs, it was cold.
