I had this place bookmarked for awhile and I love supporting mom-and-pop shops, especially if they cater to breakfast dishes! Although I'm bummed that we left rather unimpressed with our experience. While it's located in a beautiful downtown Glendora right by the mountains, the store itself is VERY tiny. It's tucked sideways but the streets, clear view and has 2-3 outside seating. Parking is street parking and it might get busy during the weekends, they have spots right in front of their restaurant. We came on a Friday and parking was plentiful!
Upon walking in, it wasn't busy, but wasn't completely dead either. There were a few patrons already dining-in for lunch when we looked around for a hostess of some kind. We weren't greeted and nobody inquired if we wanted to be seated until I was about to seat myself when the bar staff saw us and asked how many. He was very friendly and kind and told us we can sit in the open booth in the back (right by the kitchen and restroom). The decor is definitely outdated like they were going for the retro feel, but definitely very homey.
The menu was simple, I ordered a vegetarian omelette with egg whites and a side of home fries ($8.75+$3.50 egg whites) while the boyfriend ordered an OJ and country fried steak with tator tots. In all honesty, I've never been charged extra for egg whites before even though many places do state that they do but it's usually only $1.50 or so for the substitution (but nobody ever actually goes out of their way to do the extra charge). Here it's $3.50, holy hell WTF. LOL. That's almost $4.00 for egg whites, now if the egg whites portion was a decent size I'd understand, but when our food was served both the omelette and country fried steak was TINY. It definitely didn't justify the $3.50 egg whites, it was more like 50¢ worth of portions. There also wasn't anything great about the taste and texture of the omelette either.
The country fried steak was thin and small (about a little bit bigger than my palm), the tator tots were hella over fried and oily, boyfriend didn't really like it and left hungry still. Each dish was about $11.00-$13.00 and after tax and tip it was $30.00+. Didn't think it was worth it since boyfriend said everything on his dish tasted like it was store bought frozen and recooked on the stove, the OJ also tasted like cheap store bought OJ (I also saw that it was from one of the gallon sized ones that we sometimes buy at home since a staff was pouring it for another customer LOL). If you're going to charge prices like that at least attempt to make your food and drinks from scratch, especially since the store wasn't busy. We just felt the food quality was sub par for the price tag and it just doesn't leave a feeling of wanting to come back when there are other places like Flappy Jack's that charges the same amount.
It was also because the place was so small that when what I assume the kitchen was cleaning the odorous stench of bleach wafted out into the dining area and I almost gagged on my food when it hit my nose. BUT, their redeeming point was that their staff was amazingly friendly and nice to all their customers! read more
