Stepped into this place on a whim. My son who doesn't care for sweets generally, was taken by the moist looking slice of lemon cake. I chose chocolate. I noticed the small heart shaped cakes and couldn't help but think it was perfect for valentine's or an anniversary. My son says in a giddy voice from yesteryear "try my cake"! I can't say enough good things about the delicious treats and the wonderful people here. I contacted them looking for an unusual cake for my husband's birthday. He really wanted lime curd filling, but other than that he didn't know what he wanted aside from something unusual and of course, delicious. She had a lot of great suggestions (Elderflower cake sounded amazing to me, but my husband wasn't as sure), and she was super patient while working on ideas, but we ended up settling on a basil cake with lime curd filling and buttercream. It was AMAZING. Fluffy and moist, and perfectly balanced, the basil wasn't overpowering, but complimented the lime curd just right. Really delicious buttercream. I'm a chocolate girl all the way, my husband on the other hand often prefers vanilla, so I was expecting him to be excited about his cake and me to be indifferent. I ate four pieces. It rates in the top cakes I've ever had in my life, even though it wasn't chocolate and he's already asked for it again for next year. If we can wait that long! I lived in the land of chocolate - Switzerland for the past three years and recently moved to Austin.. I had slowly eaten through the stash of chocolate I had transported with me all the way from Switzerland, and was craving some quality chocolate. Thankfully I had read about Edis on Yelp in advance, otherwise I would never have noticed this small spot, even though I drive by it on the way home often. It is in a very unassuming tiny strip mall on the side of the road. There was a lone table outside, and two small tables inside to sit at. Otherwise, this place is geared mostly towards takeaway. There is a small glass case near the register which houses their yummy looking in house made specialty pastries, cakes, and chocolates. They also have Brazilian drip coffee on tap which is a good pairing with one of their sweets. For a drip coffee it was pretty good. The chocolates are not all displayed in their case, you need to ask what flavors they currently have (as they are made fresh in house often). A large gift box is around $25, and they mixed and matched with my favorite flavors. As the box was a gift, they gave me a couple of samples to try. I also tried their fresh chocolate dipped biscotti- which wasn't rock hard! The chocolate truffles are made with Belgium chocolate, and were really good. The flavors really stand out, and not overly sweet. Some of the best US truffles I have had. The owner is a Brazilian lady, and was incredibly friendly. She even provided me with some ice to ensure my chocolates didn't melt on the drive home. She also insured that if my gift wasn't going to be given right away, to put the chocolate box in a Ziploc and put it in my fridge to keep them fresh. She made the experience even more enjoyable. Edis' makes their chocolate truffles by hand. Walk through the front entrance and you can peer into the kitchen where the chocolates are being made. You'll see nothing but fresh ingredients being used. The little store also sells cookies, cupcakes, chocolate tortes, and cakes, but I've never been able to get beyond ordering the truffles. The truffles are made in small batches, so Edis' doesn't always have every flavor available. Just ask what they've got whipped up for that day. Edi's Chocolate is the BEST chocolate on earth, so if I could give her 10 stars I would. Edi sells her chocolate truffles at the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market each Saturday and they are amazing. My husband and I buy at least a 2-pack of her truffles each Saturday. There are several flavors: hazelnut, grand marnier, espresso, mexican vanilla, chambord (raspberry) and one other that I can' t remember the name of. She sells them in boxes of 2 ($4), 6 ($10) and 12 ($20) and they are worth every penny. Last spring, Edi went to Brazil to visit family and was away for a couple of months - my husband and I were sad, needless to say, and wondered if she had put on her red cloak and traveled with the North wind to some other town to sell chocolates, but we were happy to see her when she returned. Just the fact that they are pursuing such a business in a neighborhood on the outskirts of central Austin makes me sincerely admire them for what they do. The chocolate truffles taste very similar to one another despite the fancy names and looks of them. The interior has only two tables and so does the exterior but the friendly service and cute vibe of the place makes up for all this. Their simple chocolates are super delicious and so are their pecan bars. I got the chocolate egg gifted to me for Easter and it had little other chocolates inside. I love Edi's! I was looking around for a great chocolatier place and Yelp guided me towards Edi's, which is just a stone's throw away from my house! The shop is pretty small (most of it is taken up by the display case, and you can see into the bigger working space in the back) but it's more of a "stop in and buy a box of chocolates" type of place than a "sit down and eat a flourless cake" type of place, so it works out. The chocolates are delicious. Even though I shouldn't eat the chocolates because I'm pretty sure they're made with cream (I'm lactose-intolerant), I still buy a sea salt truffle for myself every once in a while. So with all the raving reviews, I believe that I will have to try Edi's again to make a firm decision. But today, my visit and overall experience was lackluster. My 3 dollar iced coffee came in a Dixie cup meant to keep your coffee warm and my ice was pretty much melted when I received it. I also ordered biscotti. The chocolate was fine but the biscotti tasted like store bought and boxed. It was so flavorless. Was all so boring... It looks like I will have to get some actual chocolates and keep the coffee hot. But when we walked in to pick these up the fun began. There is a Black Gold cookie that is quite possibly the best cookie I have ever had and a hot cheese puff was ridiculously good. We proceeded to buy almost everything in the store including the chocolate almond stars that my mother thought were molasses. What an incredible place. I have tried practically everything on the menu and my absolute favorites (because I can't pick just one) are the meyer lemon cake, the hazlenut amaretto torte (your eyes will roll back with each bite) and the flourless chocolate cake which is so decadent and rich, it just melts on your tongue! Amazing bakery! I called when the store was closing and I desperately wanted to order my in laws an anniversary gift. It's been hard with the pandemic not seeing them and wanted to do something special for their anniversary . Wow. Wowwww!!!! Mmmmmm! These are the first three err, sounds that came out of my wife when she tasted the "salt and pecan" chocolate we had just picked up fresh from Edis' Chocolates. So fresh that they hadn't 100% set yet, so we had to beg for her to sell them to us. And even then, she took such pride in her work, she had to fashion together a way to pack them safely, made sure we knew not to place them in the fridge, etc., etc., etc.... She packed up four for us, and I assumed it would cost a lot, but at $5 (for all 4) that seemed quite fair. It's not just chocolates there either. There are cupcakes (I had a red velvet, omg). I was actually pleased that is was packed safely and carefully in a paper bag, and not in the usual huge plastic container. On a lower shelf was something I couldn't recognize... "Oh those? Those are mini-bundt cakes. We've been here 8 months, and the previous business made bundt cakes. Local customers kept asking, so I kept them for my menu." Hazelnut torte sample? Melt in your mouth delicious. Chocolate mousse? Amazingly rich and creamy (and as my wife advises, best at room temp). Both are gluten free, as are the many truffles. Small local business, who listens to their customers, putting out amazingly tasty products, that they are very knowledgeable and proud about, using fresh high-end ingredients: 6 stars. Edis is a small-business owner in Austin that has some REAL craft, and REALLY good ingredients! She really cares about the stuff she puts out - and listens, and fixes, and improves (not that she had much to improve on, in my opinion). When i went in and asked for a mixed box of 6 truffles, she insisted I not take one of them because it wasn't on par. To me, that's commitment to true consistency. As for the specifics: Really recommend the flour-less chocolate cake if you're a true chocolate lover. Its rich, moist, chocolateliscoius, and perfectly sized so you don't feel -too- guilty. Yesterday, I tried for the first time her passion fruit white chocolate mousse - the title really says it all, doesn't it? It was just divine. Rich, and again, perfectly portioned. Her baked goods are great, I love that she took over some of the cake baking for "madcakes" after they left (they owned the location previously) . As for her truffles - these are for REAL chocolate lovers. She has some pieces available for those who just want a quick sweet fix, but her truffles are a pure, unadulterated BAM of chocolate flavor. Oh sweet baby jesus I'm in trouble! No, no, not the kind of trouble that sends you to the local drugstore for the dip stick test. The kind of trouble you get into when you know you have found that place that could make you fall off the wagon. I was driving down Spicewood Springs minding my own business when all of a sudden this giant sign with the word Chocolate on it jumps out at me. Ok, it didn't actually jump out at me but it was 4-ish o'clock, that time of day when you have nothing but lunch fumes and it's still too early to fill up on dinner so you need a little pick me up snack. Thanks to Edis' I just found mine. When I first walked in I thought I might be able to maintain a little control, this is a small shop with just enough room for a couple of petite cafe tables and chairs. But then I looked to my left and there it was, their refrigerated display case and it was filled to the gills with tasty treats. I knew I had a decisions to make, I could turn around and run for the door or give in to temptation, I having the discipline of a gnat, chose the later. After taking a little time to ogle their treats. I decided it best to start with one of their chocolate and then work my way down into the cookies, bread pudding, a cupcake and a flourless chocolate cake. For the record I got a piece of chocolate, two cookies, one cupcake, one bread pudding and a flourless chocolate cake. What did all this cost me you ask, or maybe you don't ask, either way I'm about to tell ya! I spent 18 dollars for all those goodies which is pretty darn affordable. The sugar cookie was thin and covered in icing, it was good not great but good as was the cupcake and bread pudding. The reason I gave this place five stars is the same as the reason I stopped at this place to begin with, it's all about the chocolate and I don't just mean their truffles. Their flour-less chocolate cake was insanely good! Smack your mamma type good. Heck it was smack your mamma, your daddy and your baby sister type good. If rich deep dark chocolate melting in your mouth doesn't sound good to you then move on. A friend and I were having lunch at China Cafe across the street (side note: don't miss out on that gem either!) and wanted a little something sweet to end our meal. It was meant to be - Edis was within eyesight! My friend enjoyed a lemon cupcake, and I tried a strawberry cupcake. Holy guacamole. The ICING. Can we even call it icing? It's more like she took fairy dust and mixed it with angel tears to create a perfectly sweet and sinful topping for her cupcakes. Oh yes. By the way, the woman working the front (I assume is also the owner) was incredibly nice. And not in the "I'm from Austin and I'm just generally friendly" kind of way... she seemed genuinely interested in meeting us and talking to us. I want to be friends with her (and we only talked for 5 minutes). We also mentioned how we had been into the shop once before and had gotten the chocolate mousse and she offered up (immediately and enthusiastically) a sample of her newest mousse flavor - white chocolate and passion fruit. So my office was obsessed with Mad Cakes, which was the business previously at this location. We were all womp womp womp when Mad Cakes had to close, and seriously we were always WAH! when the sweet tooth came knocking and all we (thought) we had nearby was Randall's. Very fortunately for us, this last Friday, we decided to give Edis' a call to see if they make anything besides chocolates as we were all really jonesing for cookies. Let me tell you YES they make so much more than chocolates!!! We returned to the office victorious and loaded down with amazing chocolate chips, phenomenal pumpkin cookies with butterscotch icing, lemon bars, a couple of varieties of cupcakes, and seriously good brownies.
