Love this place!! Ordered the dolmas and falafel wrap and it was delicious. So happy they moved to south austin

AustinMed Break's new address is 1504 S. 1st (next to Nomade restaurant & across street from Gourdough food truck/Elizabeth St. Cafe). The ZAALOUK (tomatoey eggplant dip) served with pita, sriracha fries and roasted cauliflower were delicious and good portion sizes. The falafel on rice was tasty too. The salad I tried was a bit of a let down; I would have liked 1) cucumber slices; 2) sliced red onions, 3) pepperoncinis and 4) Tzatsiki sauce. The garlic sauce offered seemed to have mayonnaise in it and it would have been better if it did not have that. The Moroccan almond cookies (GHRIBA) were memorable treats, so fresh and almost cake-like. Service was friendly. The food truck is in its own lot, with trees around it, ample number of vacant parking spaces so it was easy to park the wheels & amble over to order, then wait the 25-30 minutes for the food to be prepared (we ordered 6 things). Later we shuttled over to our air conditioned home where we had our own beverages and had a great dinner for 4 under $80. We stayed in the car while Mr. Abdou got our order to ready to go because it was hot outside; no parking fee was needed because we stayed near the car. (AustinMed Break should consider investing in some rotating fans around the truck & picnic tables.) The offerings are enhanced by Moroccan flavors and therefore a little different than the usual halal food truck fare served down the road. I look forward to trying more of the items! read more

Ok....I gotta give this place props. This place is bomb! I love me some Mediterranean food and this place does not disappoint. Went here for a lunch date grab and go with the hubs. We did have to wait a bit but it's ok... when you hear the sounds of the metal hitting the grill, it's a comforting sound that your meal is being freshly cooked. The portion! Holy moly guys, when I got home my to go container was filled. Like the food was piled up. I love this because so many places try to jip you on portion size. Not only that but the food! This place is now at South 1st & Elizabeth/Monroe St. I tried it for the first time tonight and the shawarma plate was outstanding, as was the side of Moroccan olives! The owner was the best! I will def go back. The only drawback is the asshole landlord that wants to charge $11/hour to park to eat at their tenant's food truck, whom they are also charging rent. I was getting mine to go! Next time, I'm not paying parking; the truck owner was very apologetic. It's amazing how people fail to connect that without a successful truck to attract people, they get no rent or even a minimal parking fee. Anyway, Austin Med Break was amazing. read more

This food truck truly deserves the stellar rating. I picked up a falafel on rice on this rainy day. It was absolutely delicious. The quantity was quite generous. Every single ingredient was so fresh - even the side salad. Nothing tasted or looked pre-prepared. And the sauces - chef's kiss. They are really tasty. Prices are super reasonable too - $13.50 for my plate. He could certainly be charging more given inflation and the high quality. I also love that he's got a nice setup to sit and enjoy the food fresh at the picnic tables if you have the luxury of time. read more

TASTY FOOD ALERT I recently moved to the eastside area after living in the Hyde Park neighborhood for years. Was looking for a new Halal spot as a substitute for my Halal Bros addiction. I think i have found the place! Firstly, the gentleman on the truck is very welcoming and friendly! On to the food: AMAZING! Very flavorful and authentic tasting. This food truck experience was absolutely phenomenal. Absolutely. Phenomenal. We rolled up a little before close so they were out of a few items, but honestly, what we did get was so out of this world fantastic that we didn't even care. We had the chicken shawarma and gyro over rice, and it also came with a bit of salad and then drenched in garlic sauce and hot sauce. The gyro was so flavorful and tender, but the chicken shawarma really really blew me away. I adore chicken shawarma and get it probably once every other week, and this is some of the best I've ever had. It was so flavorful and not at all dry, and in combination with the bold garlic sauce and super tasty rice, it was a home run. The hot sauce was also so delicious. It had so much flavor to it and really added to the dish rather than being spicy just for spicy's sake. We were starving and both inhaled our fully-packed takeout boxes. We were way too full afterwards but it was 100% worth it and I would absolutely do it again. And as an added bonus, the exceedingly kind man gave us a free cheesecake "for the road." AustinMed Break has kind of weird hours, but a great stop at the end of the night. The sriracha fries were so good and I highly recommend. The falafel wrap was delicious too, but it tasted like there was some kind of dairy based sauce when it was labeled vegan. A few of the items labeled vegan said they had cheese, in the case that that is a dietary restriction you may want to confirm that it's vegan, not vegetarian, before ordering. Easily one of the best meals I've had in Austin! It's a food truck on the corner of a busy intersection area in the outskirts of downtown Austin but worth the travel! There's a good coffee spot right across the street. There are also tables to sit with shade and the owner of the truck is super friendly! It's located behind superstition in the corner of a parking lot off south Congress. The owner is so sweet and makes everything, but the cheesecake (what he told me) from scratch. Best food truck!! We came across this food truck while walking back from S Congress. We went up and checked out the menu and asked the guy a couple questions about allergies. He was so nice and so accommodating that we decided to give it a try. The food was all made fresh and SO delicious! We got the Kofta tajine, roasted cauliflower, and zaalouk. In my frustrated attempts to find the ultimate halal food truck that could at least equal the ones I had in NY when I lived there, I perchanced this humble unassuming halal food truck owned by Abdul, right in the heart of downtown Austin. OMG!!! I think I finally found what I can proudly call probably the best halal food truck in TX while taking a quick break from driving one extremely cold night. I ordered my favorite lamb/beef gyro that I usually always had in NY, in order to compare my experiences. I asked Abdul to put lots of white sauce and allowed him to spice it up just a little bit by adding hot sauce. I asked for the meal to be over salad instead of rice. The taste experience was heavenly! I finally have a halal truck to visit in Austin! Icing on the cake was a unique pomegranate drink I have probably found only from this food truck. I'm gonna be bold and say this may be top 3 best restaurants in Austin for it's price range. The 5 Star rating is honorably won. - The Tajine was excellent - truly excellent. Everything is completely handmade (with one exception the cheesecake which he says he buys from a bakery). However, even the baklava he makes by hand at his house in the morning.... And you can taste it - the nuance in flavor is there and it's clear there is immense care that went into it. - Abu is super kind and very receptive (asking how spicy I wanted it, whether I wanted some homemade hot sauce with my hummus, and small touches that just (as a service person) really went above and beyond. The owner is the sweetest man you'll ever meet. His portions are generous, cooked to order.
