BIG fan of this place. I love ice cream and I love unique flavors -- this place has both! They have multiple locations and this is the most south one, which is also a food truck. They're in an open gravel lot with plenty of parking and some wooden picnic tables where you can sit and eat. I had the chocolate jasmine flavor and the lychee raspberry as half scoops in a size medium (the minimum size where you can get half scoops). The chocolate was honestly a little weird with the jasmine in my opinion (I would have preferred regular vanilla jasmine, but was interesting to try). That said, the lychee raspberry is a knock out of the park -- absolutely LOVED it! It's the perfect combo of sweet from the lychee with just a bit of tang from the raspberry, and the chunks of lychee in it are absolutely delicious. It was like $8 including tax for the medium so it's not cheap, but it's a good sized cup. They also sell larger sizes (like by the pint I think), and chocolate with interesting flavors that is award-winning, so lots to try! The lady working there seemed hot/tired that day, but she was nice. The ambiance outside is also nice, as long as it's not too hot, since those picnic tables can end up being directly in the sun depending on the time of day and it is HOT. I have tried Kessho chocolate back in Chicago at a local matcha store so I was excited to see that there were physical store locations in Austin. I placed a pick up order online for gelato and was surprised to find a food truck when we arrived. The flavors we chose were mango sticky rice, matcha, black sesame cookies and cream, and lychee rose. We were given insulated bags for the gelato which was great since it was pretty melty by the time we were able to get it into the freezer. Although they were all good, my personal favorite was the lychee rose followed by the mango sticky rice. I liked the lychee pieces in the lychee rose gelato. The matcha had a good depth to the flavor but didn't stand out as much as the other flavors. Will be back to try more the next time we're in Austin! read more

Located in a food truck yard with lots of picnic tables and some covered ones as well. Employee was nice and helpful, we tried samples of a couple flavors: watermelon yuzu, cookies & cream, pineapple cake, black sesame cookies & cream, and banana shoyu caramel. Dear Kessho, please have a location further up north. This is way too far south for me, but maybe this is best for my wallet and stomach! I loved trying 3 of their gelato flavors. I'm already a fan of their chocolate bars so it was a treat to be able to finally try their gelatos. My only gripe about the mango sticky rice was that it melted much faster than the black sesame cookies and cream. Luckily I was able to gobble it down quickly before it melted too much. When I arrived here, the attendant got as excited as I was and walked me through the entire menu gave me all of their popular flavors and his personal suggestions. He was so patient and offered us free samples for gelato flavors per person so between my fiancé and I we were able to try every single flavor that was on their menu. I went there to get the limited edition Yuzu cheesecake flavor, but ended up with the banana show you instead because it was just that much better. Mango Sticky Rice Ice Cream: Imagine swirls of bright, tangy mango sorbet weaving through a creamy, sweet rice-based ice cream. The balance is flawless - a refreshing flavor, not too heavy, and with just the right amount of tropical sweetness. Black Sesame Butter Cup: This one was my favorite! My friends and I shared a large (3 scoops) of mango sticky rice, lychee rose, and ube. The mango sticky rice was such a fun, stretchy texture, kind of reminiscent of booza (Middle Eastern ice cream). Ube was super creamy and actually tasted like ube. But my favorite had to be the lychee rose - the bits of lychee jelly mixed in were such a delightful surprise! This is the first time I've seen Asian ice cream done on this scale, with a mix of familiar and unique fusion flavors AND with pints to go. The black sesame cookie and cream immediately caught my eye, and it was as amazing as I imagined it would be. The gelato is soft, melts into your mouth but is not runny. The black sesame has an edge to it that is salty but buttery at the same time. The matcha tastes like grass, but oddly enough it is perfect. Definitely a GREAT bite. If you want gelato that is not overly sweet (like say the Baked Bear type of sweet) but more balanced and earthy without compromising sweetness you should come here. AND get the waffle cone. This waggle cone HAS to be the softest crunch EVER 10/10 best waffle cone in Austin. Went Friday night and the girl working was beyond sweet and welcoming. Very proud and knowledgeable on the gelato. A little food truck in the South of Austin. I arrived when it was just open, so the staff was still setting up things outside. I ordered mango sticky rice ice cream, 2 black sesame cookies, and a sesame Reese's cup candy. The cookies were chewy and soft, and you could taste the sesame in them. I would definitely get this again. A few days later, I opened the sesame cup, and that was great as well, but I think the cookies were the best out of the two. The mango sticky rice was good and had a great mango flavor, and the rice had a nice coconut flavor too. The food truck has other food trucks around it too, so you can explore other things there before getting dessert. I was trying to find places to try out the night before I flew into Austin and I came across this cute shop via social media and from the pictures/flavors made, I made sure to have enough time to visit. The experience and the taste of the items I got were above my expectations. Everything I tried was soooo good! Nothing was overly sweet, and you can tell that the ingredients used were real, ie. The sakura cheesecake actually did have sakura flavor in it, and the ube used real yam The server was patiently taking my order and was super sweet and kind, and gave me details on everything I sampled. I brought my boyfriend here to try out this Asian gelato food truck spot! They also have other desserts too. We were honestly blown away by how delicious each of the flavors were because you can tell they use real ingredients. The matcha rocky road has ceremonial grade matcha, and my boyfriend was shocked immediately by how he could tell it was real matcha. It was a really rich and delicious flavor. We also enjoyed the ube horchata, and they most definitely use real ube in the gelato. You can taste the chunks. The last flavor we tried was the sakura. It was good, but it was a bit too overpowering and flower-y for us. It felt like you were eating a flower, but not necessarily in a good way. The flavors were definitely adventurous - black sesame, matcha and a pumpkin cheesecake for the season. Some staple flavors as well, vanilla, chocolate. The gelato itself was not consistent in its texture - we got a medium (2 flavors) coconut and the pumpkin cheesecake. The coconut was smooth, creamy, stretchy - more like what a gelato texture should be. The pumpkin cheesecake flavor was a decent taste but the texture was weird and crumbly. Kessho is known for their chocolate. At their food truck location, they've taken the opportunity to offer additional dessert items, such as gelato and various baked goods. Despite their other offerings, I contend that their chocolate bars are where it's at. At around $10 a bar, their bars are done extremely well. It is difficult to savor a piece without wanting more, since as their chocolate dissolves in your mouth, you can taste the intended flavors pleasantly lingering around before they gradually disappear, leaving you yearning for just a bit more. You can get them at the food truck, and also at various supermarkets around town. During this visit, we opted for some strawberry and black sesame gelato. The strawberry flavors and seeds clearly came through, though this seems more sorbet like than gelato. The black sesame contained black sesame, but was also embedded with chunks reminiscent of cookie dough. We also grabbed a lychee rose chocolate bar which we hadn't yet tried before. The box will be added to the water-color inspired collection. Seating is ample and pretty much unshaded at the center of several food trucks. There is a tiny gravel lot on the property, otherwise street parking can be found close by. Expect relatively standard, relatively quick food truck interactions when ordering. read more

What a sweet little food truck tucked away in the back of a street that we never knew existed. We found it because we wanted some celebratory ice cream and were tired of our typical haunts, so ended up here since we were in the area. We will definitely be back because the taco truck on site also looked amazing. The person working the Kessho truck was so welcoming and generous. They gave us all samples of the ice cream, explained the concept, and were beyond patient as we navigated the choices. Our daughter ended up with milk chocolate on a waffle cone, which was subtle yet smooth. The black sesame chocolate butter cup was a unique kind of take on the whole peanut butter cup thing--rich but not *too* much. The cherry blossom and strawberry cheesecake was also completely unique, and again, the flavors were strong but they weren't overwhelming. Portions are generous and fair considering the slightly higher price point. Apparently they also sell chocolate?? It was a bit confusing having both operations going at the same time, so we just stuck to the frozen stuff. Would we make this our everyday "go-to" ice cream spot? No, because sometime you just want to order scoops of the usual suspects. But this is a fun diversion and we will definitely be back again after we order some tacos from the truck next door first. There was only one girl running the truck so the wait was kind of long even though it didn't look like that many people in line. Matcha is an additional $1.5 which is kind of a lot considering the flavor tasted similar to store bought matcha ice creams. The milk tea gelato with boba topping was so unique but also makes you wonder why you haven't had that before! My favorite item was the black sesame cookie -- LOVED the nuttiness & decadence with white chocolate. Kessho chocolates are also something else! Yuzu, hojicha, and boba are award-winning. I personally LOVED the salted plum & boba! Can't wait to try some of the other flavors as well :) My husband really enjoyed the savory lamb skewer flavor -- an interesting combination of cumin, goat milk, and chili peppers for some heat. Although not my top pick, I surprisingly liked it more than I thought I would and LOVE the owners' creativity!
