This is our third weekend visit and our fourth 6 course food and wine pairing dinner. Chef is always creative, surprising and never disappoints! I love the fresh locally sourced produce and food products like the locally made cheeses, mustards etc. Today's menu, with a St Patty's Day theme was wonderful and the wine pairing really elevated the experience! I am very picky about flavor, freshness, quality and preparation, just ask my husband, and I have not been disappointed yet at Edgar's in the Belhurst Castle! Steak was mediocre for a steakhouse. They do not know how to cook steak medium rare or rare ( not only our table but the table next to us). Not sure if it's because we were there after a holiday weekend but the service was slow (guess they need more tome to over cook your streak). Received a text that I'm late for my reservation time but when I show up I still had to wait 12 minutes so not sure why they rushed me. We stayed at Belhurst for our first wedding anniversary and was hoping for a nice meal for the occasion. That did NOT happen. When I called to make the reservation, they asked if it was for a special occasion. I'm not sure why they asked because it was not brought up at all during our time there. We were promptly seated and we ordered a bottle of wine. We also ordered the calamari. Our appetizer came out 20 minutes later, still no wine. It took 25 minutes to get our bottle of wine. My husband ordered the scallop entree and I ordered the shrimp scampi. Almost inedible - the scallops and shrimp were both completely overcooked and chewy. At this point we were just ready to leave and it took another 20 minutes after asking for the check to actually get the check. Overall, a bad experience. read more

We ate at Edgar's on Sunday for a birthday dinner. The staff was fantastic, especially our waiter Michael who was attentive, gave fantastic recommendations, and treated us to a fantastic sweet treat at the end of our meal. Service and ambiance make it all worth it. Food was average and nothing spectacular. The crusted bread and the infused olive oil and herb butter were amazing! The dessert was an glazed apple cheesecake which was pretty good too, but our steak main course could've been better. That being said, It's worth a visit to enjoy the old world charm of the Belhurst castle and the friendly staff! Covid or not, night before Thanksgiving or not, I expected much better. The Good - Lexi, the server tried very hard to make up for the failures on the part of the kitchen. She was sweet, but had to be overly apologetic. The bread and butter before the meal were tasty. The chocolate dipped strawberries and dessert were good. The restaurant is in a 135 year old castle; that's cool. The Bad - The taste of the food was below average (regardless of what we paid). The Arancini (a house favorite appetizer) was cold and bland. The Caesar salad dressing had an odd twang so I didn't finish it. The veal schnitzel was ok, but tough. The house favorite Mac and Cheese was ok (though the beer they use for the cheese is really strong). The Ugly - Wife ordered a Filet which was WAY over cooked. Don't go there! We went for the special Easter dinner and I have to say it was the worst meal I've ever had at any restaurant Anywhere. My lobster tail was a weird pink color and smelled like cleaning solution. My husband's vegetables were so overcooked they were mushy, the soup was bland. And all this for $70/person! We realized when we made reservations that the menu was dated and very traditional but we were okay with that, thinking that was the clientele Edgar's was going for but we thought the food would at least be good. They either don't know or care what good food is! Now on the staff. While our waiter was friendly, the entire wait staff looked disheveled, harried and unprofessional... stains on clothing and reaching across the table to serve. Okay, here's the wait time... we had reservations and after waiting to be seated, had to spend almost two hours to finish our meal. At that point we just wanted to leave! Now to the response from Edgars...I left a review in their suggestions box with my name and contact info. No response . Then I contacted them by e-mail and was told that certainly the manager or someone from the restaurant would get back to me. Still no response. I was hoping to get some clarity.. some unusual circumstance that explained our bad experience before I posted a review. They obviously don't understand or don't care. Found this on the way back home and made reservations the day of for dinner. They were accommodating and very nice. The location is beautiful and the dinner was very romantic. I was in the mood for seafood so I ordered a lobster plate, my boyfriend ordered a steak. They make their own butter and our waitress had recommendations for wine pairings! The meal was delicious (needless to say I was stuffed) and afterwards, we got to take a lovely walk around the vicinity (we went during the summer). Would go back! read more

Where to start? How about calling the manager Matt/Morgan the day after, leaving a voice mail saying I would like to review an unpleasant dining experience and never hearing from them? I'm the guy they should call back immediately if for no other reason than to avoid reviews like this! And this ladies and gentlemen is the heart of the problem: management. If they don't address a disgruntled customer by simply and promptly returning a phone call then how much attention are they giving to their staff - both back of the house and front of the house? How much attention are they giving to food quality and preparation? How much attention are they giving to the physical dining room itself? When the chocolate covered strawberries they give with presentation of the check is the best part of the experience then something is wrong - this by the way was a comment we heard from an adjoining table and could not agree more. The server was fine, not so much the crab cake and calamari nor garden and Caesar salads nor the salmon and Wiener schnitzel. After adding one beer to the mix, you will walk out paying $148 - no wine and no dessert. But hey, that does include two chocolate covered strawberries. Matt and Morgan, you are letting down the people who work for you. You are letting down all the people who have been going there for years and their wonderful memories are colliding with embarrassing food quality and presentation. All of what I'm talking about is correctable. My hope was a private phone call might wake you up. That didn't work so maybe this review will. Finally a disclaimer of sorts. This was actually one of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. I ignored the bad reviews and wanted to make my own opinion, however, the reviews are unfortunately not wrong. I ordered a pasta dish and I'm pretty sure the food was from the day before. The "pesto" on the pasta was brown, and even the server said it didn't look appetizing. This is a review of the weekday lunch buffet; My wife and I had our first kids free romantic get away in years and decided to try this buffet on a whim after receiving a promotional email from Belhurst Castle. All I can say I wish I never opened that email... Pro's: the atmosphere is amazing, the beef soup was edible and the balsamic dressing on the spinach salad was one of the best I've ever had. Con's everything else... The entrees were bone dry, I lack the vocabulary to truly explain just how dry they were. Chewing leather in the dessert is close but still lacking. I can only assume they had been served and reheated several times to receive the disgusting chalky texture all three proteins possessed. I saw it when I spooned it on my plate and then confirmed it when I tried to ingest them. I couldn't even take more than a bite out of each: salmon-dry, white and chalky, cottage pie- devoid of even a hint of moisture even after I attempted to salvage it by adding butter still inedible. the chicken even soaked in its vodka sauce was unendurable. The rolls were store bought bagged potato rolls or at least I can say they resembled them since I didn't actually see the bag. If I was at a local dinner that would be a plus,potato instead of generic white but at this price I expected fresh baked artisan rolls. The desserts: cookies or brownies and again u guessed it dry and crumbly, deserts would be a better title for this course. I'd avoid this buffet like the plague or if u have the time and money go back several days in a row to confirm my suspicion that they keep serving the left overs day after day. read more

Had dinner here the Saturday night of MDW. After seeing the mixed reviews, we didn't have super high expectations and went for the experience of dining at Belhurst Castle. That being said, we had a delicious meal here. The bread they give you to start was so good we asked for more while waiting for our food. There were 3 of us and our steaks (I had the filet) were prepared as ordered. For sides, we shared the mac & cheese, asparagus, creamed kale and fries. The mac & cheese was our favorite and lighter than I'm used to seeing it made. My only complaint was that the charcuterie board didn't have much variety and was mostly cheese. We honestly had better charcuterie boards at some of the smaller wineries we went to. If you're looking for somewhere to have a nicer dinner while in Geneva, Edgar's is a good pick. read more

Despite having a reservation, we were seated 30 mins late. There were plenty of tables open too but we were told there was a staffing issue. Our waiter was friendly but rarely visited our table. I assume related to the staffing issue. We would have liked a second round of drinks but never had the opportunity to order them. The food took forever to come. When it did, it was not great. The only reason I am giving anything higher than one star is due to the waitstaff, if it wasn't for the great service it would be a one star. The easiest way to describe the food is....tasteless. Everything was either bland or overcooked. I chose the filet cooked medium rare. Let's begin by stating the obvious, this was not a filet. It was clearly a poor cut of meat that was being passed as a filet. The "filet" was void of any seasoning or flavor. I felt like I was in a bubble gum chewing contest, as it was nearly impossible to chew. I can sadly say it's the first time I have ever not finished a filet. The potatoes were equally inedible. We decided to write off the evening as a potential anomaly and went to brunch the next day with an open mind. It was soon clear that bland, over cooked food is the norm, not an exception. We will return to the castle for a weekend getaway but will be dining somewhere other than Edgar's. There is so much potential to make Edgar's a fine dining experience with the location, view and history, but in order to achieve this major changes must occur. read more

Visited Edgar's Saturday evening Feb 13th with my sweetheart. We were seated promptly, but unfortunately, it was such a cold evening and we were seated on the outer porch near eastern windows that we shivered through most of the meal. They needed to turn up the heat. Some of our fellow patrons were sadly retrieving their coats to keep themselves and their dates warm. We should have done the same. The scallop/artichoke/cannelloni bean entrées were subpar at best. And, the calamari appetizer was bland ( no sauce, tasteless) The chef should experience the calamari appetizer at Long Horn's at Eastview to understand what comprises a much more desirable calamari appetizer. The salads and bread helped save the evening as did the wonderful service provided by an outstanding and extremely professional waitress by the name of Lexi ( hence the very good rating). Perhaps, during the summer we'll give ourselves and this establishment a second chance. read more

We went there for New Year's Eve, which is our anniversary. The food was fabulous and the service impeccable! I had the prime rib and it was a triumphant. The Belhurst castle is a wonderful sport for dining, drinks and for resort accommodations. I would recommend this highly to anyone coming to Geneva. Best place to go!! read more

We had dinner here last night. Like many restaurants they are short staffed and signs everywhere asking fir help wanted. That being said the service was excellent. We requested outdoor seating. They complied. Wish it was in a sunny spot which it was not and that heaters were available which were not. It was a little cool and drafty this night I had the house red that tasted a little like Manishevitz. Sweet. Too sweet for my friend. Ok by me. We started with the shrimp cocktail. 6 shrimps tasty and if a good size. My friend had the French onion soup that he liked. My main course was the Weiner Schnitzel which was the best I ever had. My girlfriend had the Shrimp gumbo that she enjoyed. My friend had the chicken pasta dish that the waitress recommended. He did not finish and I tasted the pasta and I did not like it at all. This was a laughable experience to say the least. $120 for a dinner for three and none of us were able to eat our meals it was so appalling. To start we got a charcuterie board which came with a measly amount of cheese, thick hard to chew slabs of prosciutto, yet nothing to eat the cheese on. I've never heard of a cheese platter that didn't come with crackers or something to eat the cheese on so you don't have to nibble on it like a rat. We also ordered ahi tuna which came with a meager five thin pieces that were off in color and absolutely flavorless. Between the pieces was some sort of odd sesame styrofoam that you have to spit out because you can't chew it. I ordered French onion soup which was essentially a flavorless broth that tasted like someone had just dumped raw onions in water. I also ordered a baked potato which was essentially just a boiled potato with nacho cheese on top. My friends ordered the gumbo, neither of them got more than a few bites in before they gave up entirely. Go literally anywhere else. Not everything that's expensive is good. Had a beautiful anniversary dinner with my wife tonight here. Asked for a private table for our celebration and the staff accommodated us perfectly. We started with the scallop appetizer, perfect bites to start our night. Cooked perfectly with a huge punch of flavor. My wife had the squid ink carbonara full of lobster meat and mussels for her main course.... She had enough noodles on her plate at the end of the meal for a whole other dinner!! I enjoyed the Delmonico steak which was 16 oz large ! Cooked to my perfect rare, perfect sear on the steak, and served with beautiful morel mushrooms. Perfect meal. We were so full we couldn't even think about dessert. Until we saw the display plate ... We boxed up a piece of pistachio cheesecake for home! A must go for your special night. read more

Best Thanksgiving meal ever (sorry mom!). Dinner began with delicious homemade bread with garlic butter. The pumpkin spice bisque was hot, smooth and creamy. The salad was tasty with a great bacon vinaigrette. The main course was served with Both white and dark turkey, delicious stuffing, mashed potatoes. It would be easy to be disappointed because everyone has their own version of what a thanksgiving meal should be, but this was the most flavorful traditional turkey dinner I have had. The vodka mule I had with dinner was so good I had another. The atmosphere is beautiful, the service was excellent. We came here for our 10 year wedding anniversary, but were less than impressed. We got there early to explore the grounds and have a glass of wine. That was the best part of the night until the staff refused to take our picture. Then we were seated for dinner and waited at least 15 minutes to no avail. No one even came to get our drink orders. We Had reservations for s party of 11 in front of fireplace, the set up was great. Everyone was facing each other and made into a square instead of a long table which was nice. Now the food, the calamari was amazing!!! I really liked the different flare to it with banana peppers and olives. And the steak I got was decent was pretty good. We came from Pennsylvania and drove up to New York to celebrate three birthdays. We wanted a fancy place to enjoy our birthday dinners, so we chose a place in Belhurst Castle called, Edgar's Steakhouse. Their menu was very fancy and had a nice selection of food. However, the food did take a long time to get to our table. The service on the other hand, was very nice. Our waitress was very kind. The castle was very old and antique and the interior was beautiful. There was a small closet for you to hang your coat in. Once our food arrived, we were a little disappointed because one of our guest's steak was not very warm. Also, I had ordered chicken fingers with honey off the kids menu, and when her meal arrived, there wasn't any honey on, or with the chicken. Everything else was perfect and all the deserts on the dessert tray looked delectable. Overall our dining experience at Edgar's was pretty good and I recommend Edgar's if you like fancy cuisine. read more

The castle, lake and surrounding area provide a beautiful backdrop that the restaurant itself cannot live up to. We had a party of four - we all had cocktails and a couple of appetizers. The calamari was okay yet somehow managed to be the highlight of the meal. The shrimp cocktail came with 5 shrimp that were small, limp and frankly, quite pitiful in both appearance and taste. The couple of "signature" drinks we tried weren't much better. As for the main course, two of us had Delmonico steaks, one person had crab cakes and the other had halibut. After we each had taken a couple of bites, it was very apparent that we were all going to be disappointed with our selections. The "lump" crab cakes were mostly filler, the halibut was bland and poorly prepared and the steaks were awful - horrible cuts, soaked in salt and butter and something I expect would be served up at a road side truck stop with an all you can eat salad bar for $9. The fact that this place charges what they do and serves up this low quality slop is criminal. If you are looking for a cool place to taste some wine, give it a go. But if you are expecting to sit down and enjoy a nice meal, look elsewhere because you won't find that at Edgar's. read more

I used to eat at Edgar's at least twice a year. It's been over 2 years since my last visit. I always know going here we are in for a wonderful meal with great servers and ambiance. However I was so disappointed. The attire the servers wore was not the normal well dressed we were used to. Our server was so sweet though. We used to get these crackers with different butters. now it's bread which would be great if it wasn't burned. I always order the filet dinner with the garlic mashed potatoes. That was horrible. The meat had a terrible texture and the potatoes had no flavor and were not hot. We also ordered the Mac and cheese and that to had zero flavor. I will say my mom enjoyed her filet and I enjoyed my Caesar salad but that was all. The chocolate covered strawberries we always received were gone as well. Also while there the music playing was awful! You expect something light or just instrumental but they were playing like todays hits radio. The couple next to us started talking to us. It was there first time there for their anniversary. They couldn't even eat their meal it was so bad. Poor kids. It's a lot of money for mediocre food. I hope they can get this place back on track. Well first of they called us 25 minutes after our reservation time to bring us to our table. When we got to the table it wasnt cleaned off yet, so the waitress is asking the other waitresses if there is a 4 top open., They all said no, so we roamed around a little bit and she find us a clean table. She seated us and then forget about us. Every time she did come back she would disappear for long periods of time. She said she was getting bread, but she was gone long enough to bake it herself. She said she would get water refills but hoped someone else would fill them up first. Luckily the food was very good, because the service was terrible. For the cost of dinner there, I would expect to get a little more attention. when she served dinner, she brought out one dish at a time from the kitchen, with like 2 minutes between each one. Not impressed! The food was average quality. My girlfriend and I ordered steaks filet and Delmonico medium. The Delmonico was awful at best no taste swimming in gravy. I had one bite and returned the rest. Told our waiter he offered dessert for compensation. No manager stopped over to ask about dinner. I don't mind paying for good food or the restaurant not offering to removing it from the tab but the lack of concern for the customer is disappointing. read more
