collared greens (top R), red lentils (R), salad (lower R), cabbage (lower L), yellow pea top L), chickpea dish center

Went for lunch. The outside front of the restaurant is cute, but the sign isn't the easiest to see. Limited parking spots on the street in front because almost all filled by red taxi cabs, which looked like they were waiting to be repaired in a nearby body/mechanic shop. Fortunately, I found a street spot around the corner on the side street (looks like there is a parking lot at the back of the restaurant that is accessible through an alley on a side street. There were only 4-5 patrons in the restaurant when I arrived on a Thursday. You order at the counter/bar area and then sit at a table while your meal is prepared. No one was at the bar when I first stepped in, so after a minute of waiting, I rang the small bell sitting on the bar. A woman immediately came out from the back and asked what I would like to order. I ordered the platter of 6 vegetarian dishes and asked the woman to decide the dishes, and she said ok. The wait was a little longer than I expected, but I think that is because the cook was making everything fresh. The food is served on a platter topped with injera and then with the selected dishes poured atop the injera, just like Ethiopian food. For the most part, I didn't know what I was eating exactly (I knew one dish was collared greens, another a cabbage dish, and a third was a beautiful, vibrant, fresh salad of lettuce, tomatoes, and onions in a light delicious dressing), but everything was outstanding. I later learned that the other three dishes were a lentil dish, a yellow bean/pea dish, and an orange traditional Eritrean chickpea dish. All three were delicious, but I really liked the chickpea dish. When I finished eating, I asked for a carryout container and also a takeout order of the Derek Tibsi because I wanted to try a meat dish. The woman asked if I wanted it spicy, and I said I did. The Derek Tibsi was fantastic-- cubes of beef with what looked like okra in a sauce that had some heat (next time I will ask for extra spicy) with a side of the fresh salad and collard greens. Total including 20% tip was between $40 and $45.

Meat and vegetables platter

When you walk in, the smell of rich spices and meat immediately envelop you, and the food itself is even better. LOTS of vegetarian options, but the lamb is packed with flavor. We got the meat and vegetables dish. Easily feeds 2 people. The service is lovely, very gracious and welcoming. I could hardly believe it was so empty on a Sunday afternoon with food this good! Highly recommend!

Went here based on the stellar reviews, and was not disappointed! Delicious food (especially the tender beef). The friendly lady who runs the place let us partake in a baby christening party that was using most of the space, and made us feel right at home. So nice of the business and the celebrating family to graciously share their catering-style tasty foods with the daughters and me. There are some great people in the world! A DJ played lively Eritrean music. Good vibes. A great intro to this cuisine. Will definitely return to Eden's Kitchen!

Vegetarian Vegan Combo - Pick Any 6

I discovered this place while working at a job site nearby and it became a weekly lunch stop. The food is AMAZING and the owners are so sweet. I ordered the pick 6 vegetarian combo every time and it was filling I usually had leftovers. When I returned to the job site I felt fine working in the heat on a full stomach after eating here because the food isn't greasy and heavy. I'm sad I wasn't able to witness a coffee ceremony before having to leave town.

the staff was very accommodating of our large group. we all enjoyed our food and definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting the area or living nearby. it was a great way to end our field trip to the aquatic garden!

Don't let the curb appeal fool you, beautiful inside, great food, and great people!

I was driving home after a long day at work, swearing in my head about the lack of fast casual dining/dining in Northeast. Its 7:40 and Roaming Rooster is closed...whyyyyyy? Wait...what is that light? Open? New Hair Salon?? No it says Kitchen.... food?? Real food? I made my next legal U-turn on Bladensburg Rd. to pull directly out front of a beautifully decorated Eden's Kitchen. I walked in and was greeted by a beautiful and courteous Eden. I wanted two dishes, firstly Steak and Pasta....together? Yes, together! Mesquite Steak and Marinara Pasta...I accept. And lets also have the Chicken and Rice, with these prices, why not!!! I sadly left without the steak because it was made to order, and I was anxious for my bed. I recommend calling ahead to order, you cannot beat the prices for a quality delicious meal. A generous serving of marinated chicken, rice and a side salad... $11!!! I am so pleased with this establishment and my first encounter. Head chef Eden is offering comfort Eritrean food to unite and connect cultures and the community. CHEERS!

Vegetarian combo

My nephew introduces me to this eatery this afternoon and thankfully so. I had the vegetarian combo with injera and left satisfied with the food and the service. I could have had the lentils and injera all bu itself. Great combination or herbs and spices and not a trace of being salty. For those keeping kosher or halal there is no pork served here. I'm glad I found another gem to stop by when I am home.

Chicken Spris

A quintessential small business serving great food, true to its heritage. We ordered the chicken splis which was very well prepared and interesting flavours. The salad on the side was a perfect balance to the mild spiced chicken. We also got the vegetarian combo- the split peas lentil was a favorite.

Loved this Eritrean cuisine and Eritrean owned restaurant. The owner was very helpful and our food was so authentic. I am so happy that the restaurant is just around the street from me and I can't wait to return!

Food was amazing, service is great/welcoming and overall the interior is well lite, culturally artful and relaxing. A great gem in NE DC!

This place is fantastic! I was looking for a place to sit and and spend some time in... I was waiting for a friend to get home from work. The ambiance is quiet and inviting and Eden herself is very hospitable! The food was absolutely delicious; I had the fitfit breakfast and ordered a vegetable platter to go. I also got the homemade himbasha bread to go which I've been having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's simple yet so, so different and tasty! I highly recommend this place! It is affordable, delicious and from what I can tell very authentic. Certainly made with love!!

The kiddies menu WITH a coloring section on the back. And the server strapped the kiddies seat to the chair; didn't just plop it down and walk away. Child's meal arrived first so they could get started, then parent could enjoy their meal with ease. The ATTENTION TO DETAIL was beyond. Aesthetically fitting (non-plastic) changing station in the restroom. We were a table of 10 and the tables pushed together without wobble; my plate sat flat straddling 2 tables. Was the floor leveled perfectly or did staff shim the tables to perfection. I don't know, but I've never experienced that level of perfection before.

I loved the details and vases on the little ledges over the windows. The service was friendly. Our waiter explained the menu thoroughly and offered suggestions. I really liked that there were a couple mocktail options for drinks. Some of the food highlights included the lentil poppers, Parker house rolls, butter lettuce Caesar, the burger, the steak, and the rockfish. Everything was delicious and fresh. We tried the sunchokes, and we weren't really sure what vegetable we were getting. They were kind of like a potato or turnip. It was different for us, but we liked the flavor and presentation. The sticky toffee dessert was A+! Definitely recommend. Primrose is such a gem. I would definitely come back to dine again.

Somehow, I had only been to this place during the winter time, but it is a completely different vibe during the warmer months. The outdoor space is stunning, and everything just feels brighter and happier. The staff are really nice, the patrons are enjoying themselves, and they just have excellent food. My friend and I happen to come during this fashion show event so there were complimentary hors d'oeuvres for everybody present, but we still ordered delicious deviled eggs (I could've eaten a whole tray of them) and had some great cocktails. You know, for the first time ever, I paid attention to a bunch of board games that they have on a shelf. But based on the stuff that's on the shelf in front of them, I am not 100% sure that they are up for grabs, but it still looks cool. Anyone who is in this area should definitely pay them a visit. You won't regret it.

We come here all the time for the bread pudding but this time we brought a group. Always pleasant and lively, Puddin reminds me of southern hospitality at its finest. The bread pudding is served warm and rich with chunks of bread and browned butter and bourbon flavors throughout. Add the creamy homemade vanilla pudding on top and we never leave without it. We also got to sample a new alcoholic beverage that was heavenly. Cannot remember the name but if you go to the front counter they will give you a sample of the mixer. Trust me, you will want to order it. The gumbo was a crowd favorite. One sample and the flavor made you want to double back. My guests walked the area and came back specifically to get some to take home. They boxed it up separately for easy transport. Now that is service. Quick and easy stop right before it rained. Puddin is a complete takeout spot but the vibes while you order and wait make it a counter worth visiting again and again. Second, we had two kids, and you know as four-year olds they can be rambunctious and it was the perfect setting for a family meal. Third one of the first questions my server asked was what are we celebrating and I didn't think anything of it because we really weren't there to celebrate birthdays but since she asked, I said well actually we do have two birthdays! So she made sure to bring pop tarts for the kids at the end of the meal, complementary and they sang to us! Now I had a very long workday and the traffic and parking didn't help so when I saw they had a mimosa great I ordered it and it was in front of me within a few minutes! Second she mentioned how happy hour was ending very soon, but if we wanted the appetizer sampler, it was $18 and we said absolutely thanks so much. We also put in the kids order and they were able to eat pretty quickly after ordering because the service was very good. The adults ordered the Turkish eggs, which were very good although I might say the yogurt was a tad garlicky for my taste, but some people might be in for that. But otherwise great presentation very tasty dish. My husband enjoyed the chicken pickled sandwich and said it was tasty as well. So honestly, five stars for service, four for food, and five for hospitality. Definitely would return. Great experience.
