The oysters and the grouper I had on Tuesday evening were not delicious. As usual, the hush puppies were fried too hard with little flavor to them. But the worst item on my plate were the fried green tomatoes that were in a cardboard-like batter as thick as a sandwich, with no discernible tomato flavor or texture inside. In short, the whole side dish was unappealing. I've had the bread pudding in the past; it was not memorable. I like the atmosphere at Jan's and the service is always prompt and pleasant but I can't recommend the food. There's very little value for your money here.

They have wines on tap, ciders, other cocktail options if you don't drink beer! For your experience, you go to the register to get your card. You can also order food as well. I didn't try the food during this visit, but it is typical bar food with fun names. You grab a glass near the self service tap wall and proceed to the taps. The drinks screens are metered so you can see how much the pour will be. I also think there's an in-house limit to prevent you from getting too drunk, but all you would have to do is go back to the register for a reset. I enjoyed the available sour options, some local and some from other areas, and found a couple that I need to find in store! The crowd was light since it was weekday night after a Biscuits game. We watched the remainder of whatever basketball game was on the TVs dispersed around the wall and enjoyed the chill vibes.

Our fried seafood was fried way too hard, which was probably the biggest disappointment with the meal. There weren't any drink specials, and our server didn't seem to know what a Jack and Coke was. She also seemed pretty distracted by another table that appeared to be friends or people she knew, and several of our requests were forgotten. The restaurant was mostly empty, so I was also a little confused about why we were seated right next to the bathroom when there were plenty of other tables available. Nothing about the experience was terrible, and the place itself is nice, but between the overcooked food and inattentive service, there's definitely room for improvement. Three stars feels fair.
