Decor from outside looked cool. I was visiting from out of town. Was hoping to just grab a beer and Enjoy the atmosphere. $10 cover charge at the door just to walk in the place. (NOPE) Place was absolutely dead. There were four people sitting at the bar and two people at a table. 845pm on a Friday night. No band no nothing. There is something mystical about aviation that attracts our minds to be fascinated by it. And, military aviation is the niche that boosts that curiosity to the next level given the engineering wonders, cutting edge technology and superhuman abilities of fighter jet pilots. It's a really neat bar. But my LORD it's hot in here. Like, Jesus Christ. Otherwise it's pretty neat. It's like what I imagine an air force themed bar to look like if you were living in London during the air raids of WW2. It's very distinct. I dunno what's up with the staff though. One minute "something" isn't allowed, and the next you'll see somebody else do the same thing with no mention of it. The beers are pretty good. There's a lot of variety and lots of liquors. Overall, it'd be awesome if it weren't so hot. read more

Couldn't leave zero stars. Walked in and sat at the bar. Bartender acknowledged us while she was making someone a drink. As soon as she finished their drink she turned to us. At the same time, another employee came walking in with a pizza. The bartender started screaming with joy at the pizza and bolted to go eat. While she was gone, two other people came in and sat at the bar. She walked out and took their order first. Okay, this must have been a complicated drink order because it took five minutes to make. Once she was done with them, she started pouring beers for another set of customers (who were probably regulars). I gave up and we left. Ten minutes sitting at the bar and not even asked for my order. Service sucked. Do better. read more

We stopped in Aviator after dinner on a Friday night. I was surprised we had to pay a cover since the place was nearly dead with no live music. I would expect to pay cover at a dance club type bar on a Friday night, but for your typical sit-and-chill type place I wasn't impressed with having to pay to get in, especially since Alley Bar (a connected bar to Aviator) was closed for a private party that night. The concept of the bar and the decorations were amazing! My husband and I enjoyed walking around and looking at all the memorabilia. Contrary to other reviews, we were served quickly by the bartender. Granted, it wasn't very crowded. We got beer. It was fine. Didn't really like having to drink out of a plastic cup. I'd go back, but not on a weekend night. It's a good place to sit back with friends and have a drink. read more

Would love to give this place 5 stars for its awesome decorations and ambience but the service was extremely poor. There were two military graduations going on in the local area so this place was always going to get a crowd but it was being ran by two grouchy bartenders. Stopped taking cards, put nice bourbon in plastic cups, and shut down the bar to restock. Needless to say it killed momentum and the celebrations. I've never seen a bar quite like this. Any fellow military aviator (or any pilot for that matter) would absolutely love this place! Meticulously decorated to resemble a U.S. Army Air Corps bomber base in England during WWII, the Aviator Bar is almost like a museum, replete with documents and exhibits. Oh, and after you walk around viewing everything, you can do what most bomber pilots did after missions over Germany: grab a drink at the bar. There's plenty of room in this massive complex to sit and chat with old friends - one is certainly not relegated to the actual bar top. There are numerous rooms and alcoves to sneak away to for more private conversation. I highly recommend this place for both bar connoisseurs and pilot enthusiasts! read more

If you just walk in and get stuck at the main bar you'll miss tons of cool spaces all filled with aviation memorabilia from models to ejection seats and more. I'm sure there had to be more to the decoration and historical pieces in this bar. For someone who is just dropping in....it's more weird than unique. It's aptly names with all of the flight and military paraphernalia. The crowd was a mix of traveling professionals and happy hour business folk, but the bartenders were dressed like a college party. That aside, though, the service was great. We had their attention (granted, on a Thursday), and the cost wasn't bad. It was an ok place to stop by after a meeting and catch the baseball game, and there is plenty of space for groups. Just try to sit somewhere other than the middle of the bar of you don't appreciate looking at half dressed, seductively positioned female mannequins while having a beer. read more

I actually liked this bar! I love the aviation theme throughout the bar. I didn't have to pay a cover. It wasn't crowded, but it was enough people to have a good time. I order two drinks, but they weren't cheap. The bartender who initially took our was not the same bartender who kept checking on us. I thought that was interesting. I am not sure why our original bartender wasn't attentive. The bartender with a baseball hat was super friendly. I wish I would have gotten his name. The place is conveniently located in downtown Montgomery near awesome hotels. I would definitely come back again, but I am not paying a cover. There is nothing about this place that would make me pay extra money to get in here. read more

The memorabilia in the place is amazing. Very cool. But I must say I was disappointed with the bar. I would think that a bar named the Aviator would be able to make the drink of the same name. I asked for one and the bartenders looked at me like I was crazy. Also they didn't have a lot of alcohol that people were requesting. The think I didn't like that most was that the bartenders were not wearing mask. read more

I was in Montgomery for just one night on a work trip. I stumbled upon this very nice looking bar with planes hanging from the ceiling so I went in. It was pretty much dead for a Friday night but the bar tender was very kind and friendly. Wesley was his name. We talked for a long time. He told me all about the bar decor and the history of the owner and his ideas to get the bar's decoration going. It is truly a very nice bar with tables, ample bar room, and an outside area overlooking a nice street. I definitely recommend it. I'll be coming back on my next visit to Montgomery. read more

Okay, from my understanding this bar is also part of another bar..or something like that. I am not sure honestly. So..it is a big place, I believe it had 3 main bars and then an ice room bar. Cover is $5 for non-military so guess what...it is full of military. Of course this shouldn't be a surprise since it is military/aviation themed. Anyways, not a bad spot, had some corn hole boards setup and since the place is quite large,you never felt cramped up. The ice room was popular, you take a shot in a somewhat chilly room out of a shot glass made of ice, once you've taken your shot, you throw the iced shot glass at the wall. Hrm...band that was playing was pretty darn good. Service seemed to be mediocre. read more

The live music and jenga makes this place. The beer draft menu needs to be bigger and the staff needs to drop the attitude. They have way too much attitude for the low level of service they provide. This is such a unique bar themed in military aviation. From the authentic cockpit seat to the sandbags lining sitting area, this bar looks like a WWII era base bar. There is memorabilia everywhere and model planes covering the ceiling. You will feel like you took a step back in time and will enjoy the history as much as the bar itself. Walked in on an uncrowded evening. The bar was 3/4 full, a couple of tables outside had customers, but none of the tables inside had customers. At most, there were 15 people there. We took a table close to the bar. The waitress walked past several times without acknowledging us. The bartenders (2 of them) made eye contact, but just stood around anyway. After 15 minutes...we left. Not a single employee said a word to us the entire time we were there. Cool concept, loved the decor, which is why I gave two stars instead of one. Oh, except the awkwardly posed mannequin above the bar...is it supposed to be a pinup pose? In a WWII-themed bar, I'd expect to see Bettie Paige-esque stuff, not whatever is happening above the bar.
