The last two times my family and I dined at Eddie Merlot's we were extremely disappointed. The first of the two times, the service was horrible, so slow that we were the last ones to leave the restaurant at about 9:00 after a 6:00 dinner time. The second time both the food and the service were horrible. Similar times, but the food for three of our diners was not up to par. In fact, two of our party did not even finish their steaks because they were inedible. The manager stopped by to ask us if everything was okay, and when we gave him the details about our poor service and bad food, he just gave us his card and retrieved our check for us. As much as I hate to leave a negative review, I have to say how very disappointed I was with my experience at Eddie Merlot's. This was my first (and likely last) visit and I was really looking forward to it. Our server was friendly, but very slow and inattentive. On top of that, three out of four steaks came out rare, when they were ordered medium or medium plus. When they went back to the kitchen they were gone for twenty minutes and obviously all came back well done. To top it off, after waiting 20 minutes for the steaks that were sent back, we were not offered fresh sides. Needless to say, we didn't even bother eating them. For the amount of money we spent (well over $100 per person), we expected better than that. There are many other and better options for fine dining in Cincinnati. read more

I should clarify... in February 2020 I attended my sisters 40th birthday at this restaurant. I was so disappointed. I've heard good things about this place so I was excited to try it. I came to Eddie Merlot's expecting great food and service while celebrating my sisters 40th birthday. We reserved the private eating room. Unfortunately the food and service was not to my liking. They were unprepared, rude and inconsiderate of our time. My brother-in-law and I have reached out to the general manager who apologized for the poor visit. I was at Eddie Merlot's tonight at a financial seminar and the food was disappointing as usual. Eddie Merlot's serves 3 star (food & service) at a 5 star price. Fortunately I didn't have to pay for it, but I would never go there to dine. I did order 2 drinks for my wife and myself and there were additional "unknown fees" and a 20% tip automatically added to my drink bill, then there was a line on the drink bill for an additional tip. My suggestion to Eddie Merlot's is to keep gouging your customers so they don't come back, hence you'll go out of business. YUM, YUM and YUM. I would highly recommend Eddie Merlot's to anyone looking to have a really nice dinner out. The staff did a great job making me feel special while I was there celebrating my 25th birthday. On Wednesday's they have a special where any bottle of wine prices $100 and under is 50% off. One of my favorite wines, a Nickel and Nickel Chardonnay, was a steal at this price point with the special going on. As far as the meal, I kept it really simple with a filet and sides. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were a great compliment. I really enjoyed the brussel sprouts. All in all, it was a great evening and I will definitely be back! read more

Went here for a date night and, overall, we really enjoyed the food and service. My wife had the lemon chicken, I had the 8 oz. filet, and we both shared a side of the creamed spinach and the chocolate and peanut butter pie. Our server, Larry, was personable, with a great sense of humor, and did a great job explaining the menu. My steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare, leaning more towards rare), and seasoned just right. The creamed spinach, while a little salty, was some of the best we've ever had. My wife enjoyed her food, too (I tried her chicken, and it was very, very good). The chocolate peanut butter pie was pretty amazing, and worth the high calorie count. As fantastic as the food and service were, the décor and atmosphere left a lot to be desired. The entire restaurant feels very 'corporate' and sterile (in a glorified Olive Garden sort of way). It's uninviting, loud, and far from feeling upscale. The look and feel of the place doesn't match the level of food or service; especially at this price point. I was also extremely disappointed that they allowed people to sit around wearing baseball caps. I don't know what it is with places that pander to people who look like they've just hopped off their John Deere tractor. While I don't expect people to wear a tux or suit, I do expect them to have enough respect for others to not look like they've just rolled out of bed. The 'arrogant entitlement' attitude that some people have (you know the kind...."No one's going to tell me what I can and can't wear" sect), is ridiculous. It's just a shame that, like so many places, Eddie Merlot's doesn't have a standard of decorum when it comes to its customers. This one hurts. We had our hearts set on a delicious steak to celebrate our anniversary and originally planned on going to a small west side staple but ended up in a different area so we changed plans. Last-minute reservations secured us a table, and our waitress was great. I opted for the 6 oz filet, while my husband indulged in the overpriced special featuring a 6 oz filet, shrimp, lobster, and asparagus. Side note "special" doesn't mean special price, it's a play on words. Unfortunately, both steaks arrived cold despite the restaurant not being crowded at all. Visually it was depressing and unappealing. The side of garlic mashed potatoes and asparagus were hot and the best part of the meal. I did send my steak back, only to have it returned overcooked with charred edges. My husband did not because his was topped with crab and sauce so he ate a $82 cold meal because he thought sending it back would mess it up even more. Interestingly, the lady at the next table next to us also received a cold steak and sent hers back. We ordered two glasses of wine, and the server left the bottle at our table without saying anything, making us wonder if it was an anniversary gift. We drank only the two glasses we ordered and when we inquired, she said she charged us for the bottle and wasn't sure she could reverse the charges; she said she wished we told her when she initially left the bottle. She also said she would pay for it out of her own paycheck which was nice but unnecessary so we ate the price. Causing even more confusion, the bill came and it appeared like we were charged for both a bottle of wine and two glasses of wine. When we asked about it she told us that my husband's whiskey was rung in as a glass of wine bc they got a new system. $30 for a single pour from a $55 bottle. Absolutely ridiculous. Our anniversary dinner took an incredibly frustrating and unexpected turn, but the manager was responsive, apologizing for the cold meals and discounting $62 from our bill. While appreciated, it didn't make up for the disappointment. We could have made a better steak at home for a fraction of the price. We're giving it another shot next weekend at the original restaurant we were planning on going to and hoping for a more enjoyable anniversary experience. read more

Blue crab which was very good but we had six people and we asked if this was enough to share with another option and they said yes. No way! Steaks were good, shrimp and scallops were good, all expensive for what you got. We had a wonderful dinner last night... the service was impeccable and the food was perfect. We enjoyed the sea bass Oscar which was perfectly prepared and the sea bass melted in my mouth. The LyonnAise potatoes were perfectly crispy in the outside and soft on the inside, the filet was a perfect medium rare and the cauliflower the most excellent complement to the meal. Friday was our 16th wedding anniversary. I've wanted to try Eddie Merlots for a while. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu (food & wine). We checked the menu online, so we had an idea of what we wanted. We had the filet mignon pot stickers. They were good. We split the grilled romaine salad. That alone is worth going back for. The ranch dressing is great. My wife ordered the trio filet medallions, medium-well, with brussel sprouts. I ordered the 16 oz Waygu ribeye, medium-rare, with the mac & cheese. I splurged and added a 6 oz lobster tail. My wife's steak was medium, which she struggled a bit with, but she didn't want to send it back. The peppercorn sauce medallion was good. The Oscar style was ok, but the bacon-gorganzola was AMAZING. She liked the brussel sprouts well enough. The server didn't bring out my lobster tail, so I asked about it, and he forgot to put that on the order. He said it will be right out. He came back a moment later and said they were going to upgrade me to the 9 oz lobster tail at no charge. I dug into my steak, it was amazing. This was my first wagyu. The macaroni was delicious. I was halfway through my steak and the server brought another lobster tail. He said the kitchen messed up the first one and it was only a 6 oz. I honestly wasn't worried about it. We decided to get a piece of the peanut butter pie to go. He said that it was on them. He brought the check. We looked it over and they put the 9oz lobster tail on the bill. We decided to let it go and pay the bill. We left a good tip. The server never came back with the pie. We waited a few minutes and decided to leave. After we pulled onto Montgomery, she decided that she really wanted that pie. We turned around and went back. She went inside to explain the situation to the person at the host station. The server apologized and brought her the pie. The food overall was phenomenal, but I was kind of disappointed in the service. We do plan on going back. Knocked off 1 star for service. read more

We went to Eddie Merlot's for New Year's Eve dinner last night. We always try to go somewhere new and somewhere that is a nicer restaurant than we typically dine at. We were very disappointed. Only one person in our group of four was happy with their entree. Most of the food had to be sent back because it was ice cold. I ordered my filet medium and it was purple so I sent it back. For a $40 piece of meat, it would have been nice to have received a new filet but they brought me back the same steak which was now very tough and lousy after they "recooked" it. Service was not good either. I won't accept the excuse that we had these issues because it was New Years Eve - there were empty tables in the room the entire time that we were there. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner at this location in 2014 and could not have asked for better food and service! So impressed. NOT ANYMORE. I attended a small staff luncheon recently and service was HORRIBLE. It took over an hour to get our food; our soups were luke-warm at best, and while entree was good, salmon was a little salty. We had to ask waiter multiple times where our food was, he kept saying "its' on it's way" but took over 30 minutes to come out. (They were not overly busy). I asked to speak with manager; he never came out until finally he brought our food, never apologized or offered anything for us (credit, dessert, etc). We had to ask for bill adjustment. Hated to be "one of those" customers but this is not expected at this caliber restaurant. I'll only be back if I have a gift card to burn through. read more

335. Came here for a private event. We started off with the calamari and bruschetta. I felt that the sauces on the bruschetta overpowered everything and was really salty. First course was the iceberg lettuce salad. I ordered the filet with the asparagus and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were way too salty, as if they were salted twice. So parched that I drank an entire glass of water. For dessert, I had the creme brulee. This may sound sad, but it was the best part of the dinner. The seating arrangement was awkward as my seat was closer to the center and there wasn't much space between me and the person behind me, which made it difficult for people to pass through. We had a nice table for two by the window. Our server was wonderful! He truly loved his job. He knew the menu well, was personable, and just seemed like and all-around nice guy :o). We started by splitting a house salad. Then my hubby went with the New York strip. I got the ribeye, and we added on the asparagus and mashed potatoes. Received a gift card from a friend to try this restaurant out. I was super excited to give it a try, as I live close by and have always wanted to go. The restaurant itself was a pleasant surprise! I decided to eat on the bar side of the restaurant. This side has a very nice atmosphere and also included happy hour specials. The service was amazing, they cater to your needs. So if you want to be in and out, they can make that happen. If you want to take a while that can also be accomplished. The food/drinks were amazing. We went on a Friday, and they had great martini specials for $6. They also had great food specials as it was happy hour. Good but not Great. Dined at this location on a Saturday night with three (3) family members for a special birthday celebration. All ordered filets with three of the four cooked perfect. One however would be considered medium rare when ordered as medium. Sides were good but not over the top great. Salads again good but surprisingly very limited on dressing choices. First high end dining establishment I've ever been to without 1,000 island? Shrimp cocktail appetizer tasted great but again the presentation was not indicative of the establishment and pricing. As an example the shrimp had the dark veins remaining in areas down the back making for a less than appetizing appearance. No salt or pepper I'm assuming because of covid but no work arounds either. How about some disposable salt & pepper shakers? Maybe next time I pack my own I suppose? All of this at $350.00 including the tip. Beyond the dining the clientele at this location was grubby. Dirty torn jeans is simply not what I expect nor want to see when enjoying this type of dining experience. On a positive note the cocktail sauce as provided with the shrimp cocktail was fantastic. We love Eddie Merlot's, but our last visit was disappointing. Our server was excellent; however the food came out extremely slow and our main entrée was cold. Due to the wait; we didn't complain and honestly, the Sea Bass is so phenomenal, it was still good. When you treat yourself to this restaurant, you do have expectations that when they fall short, leaves you feeling the experience wasn't worth the expense. We still plan to return; but felt it necessary to leave this review. The manager had to apologize to a few tables around us; so our experience wasn't unique that evening. We had a group dinner here- about 10 of us. A few of us started in the bar. Service was excellent. Shared appetizers consisted of crab cakes, filet mignon potstickers,and ahi tuna wontons. The crab cakes were good with little filler. The potstickers were stuffed with meat and hearty. The tuna was light- I didn't eat the wonton chip. I then had the beet salad with goat cheese and thinly sliced radishes. The portion was generous and I was able to share a lot of it. I would order this again. I had the bison filet medium rare with blue cheese crumbles on top. It was delicious and very lean. It was Less moist than beef but equally delicious and less calories. I quickly made up for that with sides- creamy cheesy Mac and cheese, broccoli, and some of the sweet mushrooms. The table ordered three desserts to split: the carrot cake the chocolate cake and the Key Lime pie. All were amazing. I liked the carrot cake best. All three fed our table of 9. We've eaten at Eddie Merlot's on several occasions. The food has truly gotten better and better each time... until last night. Service was impeccable, as always. The bloody mary was bloody delicious! The chop salad was cold and very tasty. The side of mushrooms was absolutely perfect - almost crispy with a delectable, salty flavor. The lobster mashed potatoes were good, but ridiculously priced. And now to the meat. I ordered the wagyu rib eye. I really should have known better. Rib eye is not my favorite cut of meat, but I wanted the incredible flavor or wagyu beef. I was disappointed. I think I just ordered the wrong thing. Banana's Foster for dessert was delicious! Coffee was served with the traditional flair. Christmas Eve 2022: Visited Eddie's on Christmas Eve (we go regularly throughout the year) - wanted a truly special night out. Turned out great despite a noisy table next to us but you can get that anywhere. Holly - our go-to person for handling things (resist calling her a "server" but I guess that is accurate - more a friend now), recommended a great bottle of champagne - cannot remember the name for the life of me. Rose - not extremely dry - great bubbles (which I like). Perfect with all the food we had from apps to dessert. What a great start. Food: We started with beef carpaccio which was as perfect as you can get - I swear it was so thin it only had one side. Flavorful, no fat, truly melt in your mouth. Just the right amount of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. French onion soup and Crab bisque were next and, again, perfect and amazing. Holly knows I like my soup very hot and this came out that way. Entrees were Seared Ahi Tuna and Wagyu Rib eye. Tender, super flavorful and cooked exactly as requested. Also had a lobster tail add-on - superb. BTW, the champagne was holding it's own with these various dishes. We took carrot cake home - too stuffed to eat at that point but not a dessert to miss. So happy we spent our Christmas Eve there. Note - to the next table though - never take a champagne bottle from another table. Doesn't matter if the people leave and there is champagne left. It does not belong to you and you should be ashamed. How anyone could rationalize that action is beyond my comprehension. That bottle was left for someone - and it was not you. Love this restaurant. I'm the worst to leave a review for a place like this because I don't eat beef. But, they do specialize in seafood so I'm rating the seafood! I've been here twice with my SO, both times I got the salmon and both times my SO got the filet mignon. (That's fill-ette, mig-nawn by his pronunciation..). The food is definitely quality stuff. The filet mignon was "good" says my SO, but then he added, "all filet mignons are good". Basically, if you mess it up, you shouldn't put "steak" in your subtitle. The salmon was definitely cooked well; fatty and melt-in-your-mouth delicious, but they always put this unnecessary sauce on it. Their sides are okay, very typical dishes like macaroni and cheese. Again, they're pretty greasy, which I guess is expected! They make a fantastic beef wellington and most of their appetizers are quite delicious. Their desserts are very typical, very hearty cheesecakes, creme brulees, super duper quadruple extra choco chocolate cake (exaggerated) etc. Having said that, the service is definitely top-notch and their consistency deserves praise. There's nothing exciting about this place, nothing that stands out and they don't do anything cool. It's traditional fancy and everything met expectations. That's it. read more
