Lunch 3 roll special, miso plus 6 pieces each of the rolls. Tuna/Avocado, Salmon/Avocado and Shrimp Tempura
    Susan F.

This is a to go review! I was at the Planet Fitness in the same center and knew I'd be starved after, so I figured I'd would take advantage of their 3 roll lunch special. I was expecting like 4 pieces for each roll seeing as though it was under $13 and included Miso. I ordered online and its supposed to update as its made and then ready. I only got the confirmed order confirmation, so I headed over at about 20 minutes after I placed it. I went in, paid and when I picked up the bag I thought "Wow, thats heavy!" Got home, opened up my stapled shut brown bag and my eyes grew big at the sight! It was about 6 ounces of Miso. Absolutely perfect amount of seaweed and the tofo cute up all nice and teeny tiny.. The rolls, 6 pieces of each! Holy moly i felt like I won the lottery! I paid less than $13 for a big Miso and 18 pieces of sushi?! It was glorious. That was enough for my lunch AND dinner. I had the Shrimp tempura roll, Salmon and Avocado roll, as well as the tuna and Avocado roll. Included was pickled ginger, Wasabi and the perfect amount of Soy Sauce. Here I am after 8pm still totally happy, full and content. This shall be my new go to deal for sushi in Watertown!

Tasty, good service and reasonable price. And Sushi roll are delicious as well Highly recommended

I have been coming here for a long time! Honestly, this is one of the best sushi places around the area. We chose to go to lunch here because they have great lunch specials and we were craving soup and sushi! We started off with the maki special, and chose shrimp tempura, spicy tuna and the crab stick roll. We also ordered an udon noodle and a scorpion bowl! We went back for seconds and ordered the sexy girl roll- which was our favorite! Will forever be a fan and can't wait to go back!

Good enough. Yet to try the hibachi. Had a seafood soup which was heavy on the soup... but for the price was good enough. Filet mignon lunch hibachi was a streeeetch mor like top sirloin hibachi lunch not nice Ede shame on you how dare you entice me with a rockbottom priced filet mignon lunch only to smack me back into the reality of "if it sounds to good to be true"... everything was tasty enough. Hibachi/Sushi not bad 3.5.

I have been here several times. The sushi is fantastic- yummy and satisfying! The staff is also very friendly and cordial. Definitely recommend this place and of course will visit again.

Back again at Edamame, with another voucher. But they're advertising an anniversary special - their 3rd - BOGO Hibachi Dinner Monday - Thursday. Ooooo... tempting, but my voucher expires too soon to postpone its redemption... For our two appetites, we decided to split an appetizer and dessert, and ordered an entree apiece: . Edamame Special Salad $8.95 (Seaweed salad, squid, shrimp, tobiko, avocado and crunch with miso sauce) . Teriyaki Chilean Seabass $19.95 . Nabeyaki Udon $14.95 (Thick noodle served in a broth with chicken, shitake, mushroom, fish cake, shrimp tempura assorted veg, and topped with egg) . Fried Cheese Cake $4.95 The seaweed salad was fine, with a minimal scattering of seafood add ins. The squid was raw, the shrimp cooked, the tobiko bright red, and avocado diced a good size. As with all seaweed salads, it was a good sized scoop, but nothing particularly filling. The noodle dish surprised us by coming in the form of a large bowl of noodle soup with a plate filled with a hill of tempera stacked against each other - 2 shrimp, with a variety of at least 6 pieces of vegetables including onion, broccoli, taro, and sweet potato. Whoa. And it was good. All that for $14.95! The fish were two medallions resting on a bed of onions with a small side of vegetables, and served with a bowl of rice, your basic Japanese restaurant style iceberg lettuce based salad, and a bowl of warming miso soup. The chilean seabass had that nice fatty mouthfeel, and the teriyaki sauce was quite tasty. This was my dc's favorite entree of our evening's two. Service was pleasant but relaxed. My water lasted through the meal, and I did not receive a refill. I guess you have to be proactive here if you want to finish with something sweet, as they brought out our bill when a server would normally ask if we were all set with dinner and whether we would be interested in dessert. A nearby diner somehow ordered green tea mochi for dessert (2 on a plate), even though I didn't see it on their short dessert menu. I wasn't feeling it myself that night, so we went with the most interesting one on the list - the Fried Cheese Cake. Still cold firm center, warmed softened edges. Yum! A nice ending to a satisfactory meal. My dc later commented that the entrees were a much better deal than the $8.95 appetizer. I could not disagree. Ironically, the very next day, a friend shared with me an experience with warm raw sushi at Edamame. Huh... perhaps cooked stuff is more their forte? 3.5 stars *** 1/2017 *** Hit up Edamame again, but this time for a round with the hibachi grill during their Buy One Get One anniversary promotion (for a minimum of 2 guests). Their hibachi guests were all spread out through the evening, so we each ended up having our own private chefly entertainment. Ours may have been a bit less experienced, though he was quite enthusiastic. I watched two other chefs as I enjoyed my meal and noticed that their fried rice had carrots and peas, their chef drew a smiley face with the oil on the grill and placed the vegetables on the hot grilling surface first, before the protein. Also, our chef forgot our shrimp appetizer course, so they cooked them up for us in the kitchen after I realized that they were missing. It is $1,50 for the fried rice upgrade, but then they'll twirl an egg for you. It is tasty too, even though ours lacked the colorful dots of added vegetables. We shared two dinners: Kobe King (steak, lobster) $30.95 and Banzai Special (salmon, scallop, lobster) $30.95, and they split it for us. The miso soup and salad preceded the entertainment. The show included the now ubiquitous onion volcano, and the opportunity to try to catch pieces of vegetables in your mouth as the chef flings them randomly at you. The miso soup - good. The salad - crisp and fresh, mainly iceberg lettuce and that orange colored dressing with a half slice of tomato tossed on top. Everything cooked had some butter added to it along with squirts from the sauce bottles. The beef though ordered medium rare came nearly fully cooked, and a bit tough. The salmon had a nice sear on the outside, but was a bit overcooked as well. The lobster was tender. The scallop were tender and the count six to the order. The shrimp arrived late were juicy and well sauced. I wonder if they would have been as good prepped before our eyes. The bill was brought with Andes chocolates though we were wanting dessert. Yes the fried cheesecake $4.95, again, as always. A tip for the hibachi diner newbie - hibachi chefs are traditionally tipped at the end of their performance. This being separate from the gratuity paid at the end of the meal. 3 stars

This place has really good food!!! The japanese pancakes are basically scallion pancakes and theyre served with a slightly sweet soy sauce. You get like 6-8 triangle pieces. The crab "ransoons" (typo??) are pretty solid, nothing special. The veggie spring rolls are kind of bland to be quite honest--all I could taste was oil :/ Onto the hibachi...super tasty and great quality and quantity for price. I've gotten the chicken hibachi and it comes with a small bowl of miso soup, and a simple salad with a yummy ginger dressing. It also comes with rice and fried rice (+$2). Trust me--get the fried rice!!! It was my favorite part of this. Super buttery and flavorful of course. All the hibachi dishes also come with a 3-4 piece shrimp appetizer. And of course sauteed veggies (zucchinis mostly, broccoli, some mushrooms). Drinks are extremely affordable! Got a bottle of lucky buddha for only $4 and a lot of other bottles for between $3-$4! And of course can't forget the experience. All I can say is I'm really not that easily amused but wow that man was funny!!!! He had our whole party laughing out loud--he has a true talent. By the way, if youre not going for the experience and just want the food you can still order hibachi at a regular table!

Just opened this past Thursday and was just what the area needed. They do Hibachi as well as serve Fine Asian Cuisine ( Sushi!)!!! My brother in law and his friends went on Friday and it was packed! They had the Hibachi and loved it. They thought the food was good as well as the entertainment involved with Hibachi ( flipping of the food, fire, lots of clanging and squirting sake into your mouth). Based on those recommendations we went for some sushi take out. The service was excellent, while waiting they kept asking if we were fine and if we needed anything. The sushi was excellent and very fresh. If you've never had Hibachi, should definitely check it out with the family. From the front I noticed about 6 stove top tables with chairs all around with non-stovetop tables scattered throughout the restaurant. It can definitely hold a big party. The bar holds about 8 seats and there are two LCD TV so I can imagine coming here, watching the game and drinking a beer. Lunch Special is only from 11:30am to 3pm While looking at the menu I also noticed a lunch special deal Any 2 Rolls ($8.95) or Any 3 Rolls ($11.95) from a selected menu. I GOT SUPER EXCITED because I have been checking out every sushi restaurant in newton and there isn't anything like that. I will DEFINITELY be taking advantage of that deal. Now if ONLY they deliver.....

Pros: -Clean and fairly modern inside. -Abundance of parking in the shared lot in front -Service was very quick! Cons: -Everything we had was more expensive than Fin's, our usual go-to, with no noticeable increase in flavor or size. For reference, avocado maki is $4.75 here compared to $3.75 at Fin's and $3.50 at Haru downtown. Bottom line: Nice place that should be on the short list if street parking is a struggle, but better value sushi exists!

Shrimp Mango Roll and Sunny Bomb

Absolutely love this place! The sushi and really good and not over priced. They have quick service and plenty to pick from on the menu. Their main thing is Hibachi which is amazing and so much fun, but definitely underrated sushi spot!

The space is tight for a buffet, and we were glad to just miss being seated right next to where the diners were lining up for the buffet. They seemed to be a bit short-staffed as our server was attending to a section that included two large parties -- one of about 12 and another of 8 -- in addition to the smaller tables including ours. She came as soon as we were seated but only explained we could go up at any time and promised to bring water. We waited for her to return to take our beverage orders but finally grew impatient and got in line for the buffet. The buffet selections were scrumptious--breakfast and lunch options. The chicken and waffles seemed to be the most popular and the tray was empty when I got to it but a new batch arrived momentarily -- thank goodness! Yummy as I expected. I also had scrambled eggs and link sausages. I passed on a few other things like eggs benedict (the last in the tray which is never ideal). In hindsight the ideal time to arrive seemed to be about a half hour after your seating time, as by then the lines to the buffet were minimal (that's when I headed back for seconds). Oh and when I finally got to order my old-fashioned, it was delish. There is an attached parking garage (the red garage) and if you park at the right end of the building you just take the elevator to ground level and the restaurant is a few steps away. I'm not sure I'd return for the special celebration seatings. The price is right but the logistics, seating, slow service and lapse in keeping trays full of hot food would give me pause. On a regular day, however, no contest.

We came here with my roommate on a Friday night and it was completely empty which was strange. Nevertheless, we ordered our usual baked brie and a side of fries start, which came out amazing as always. The problem began right before placing our order, as we informed the waitstaff that my roommate has a severe tree-nut allergy. The waitstaff took it into consideration and let us know they informed the kitchen staff. When we got our entrees, however, I noticed my roommate's salad garnish on her lamb chop was chock-full of chopped pecans! I was horrified. If I hadn't noticed, she would have had an allergic reaction. I understand that there is a risk when going out to eat, but this is completely unacceptable given we gave ample notice and the salad was not pre-made with nuts. The waitstaff seemed more terrified of us than apologetic, despite us being nice and understanding. I am going to call out an allergy hazard when I see one... They switched it for us which was good and did end up apologizing, but it kind of turned me off from the rest of the dining experience. The entrees themselves were decent, I had the famous wagyu sliders but I prefer the crispy chicken sliders here. If you have an option, I'd choose the Boston location over this one.

Post-COVID, life looks a little different. I've changed jobs and moved to another town, so it's no longer the easy drop-in it once was. Still, I make a point to come back at least every few months. What hasn't changed is the consistency. This remains one of the most reliably excellent restaurants in the Boston area, and still one of my all-time top five--while others that once held that spot haven't quite held up. One thing has changed, though: the Ghost of Mary. Scotty, the former bar manager, created what's still my favorite cocktail of all time. When he left, the drink left with him (by mutual agreement), and while he generously shared the recipe with me, I've never quite managed to recreate it at home. It was clearly meant to be made by the expert. That said, Sycamore hasn't missed a beat. The space is still as comfortable and quirky as ever, the food remains consistently excellent, and the current bar program is in very capable hands.
