I wasn't expecting much. The restaurant sits at 3 stars, and Yelp reviewers can be a bit trigger-happy with the one-star reviews. Even so, I managed to be disappointed, which takes a special kind of effort. I placed my order at 10:25 PM on a Thursday, ~4 miles from my door. I was shown, not once, but twice before and after checkout, to expect delivery at 10:55. Yasssss. I love a company that commits to a number! Y'all! They did not hit the number. My food arrived at 11:25, a full hour after ordering and 30 minutes past the promise. I received zero updates in between. No text, no email, nothing... Until a delivery driver materialized at the wrong door like it was a surprise party nobody planned. I even called the restaurant around 45 minutes in for a status update, which accomplished exactly as much as you'd guess. I legitimately considered calling my CC company and writing it off and going to bed... but then my khaki and flannel clad knight appeared. Onto the food, because that's still technically part of this transaction. I ordered the "Thai" fried rice and the kung pao chicken. I say "Thai" in quotes because there is nothing remotely Thai about it, It's just oily rice, bulked up with a generous quantity of filler and a few flecks of shredded chicken for plausible deniability. It's fine. It's rice. It exists. The kung pao chicken, meanwhile, is exactly what you'd expect if you've ever had kung pao chicken anywhere, ever. It's competent, though unremarkable, and easily forgettable by the time you've swallowed. Ultimately, I'm somewhat glad I ordered the fried rice as a side, because it turns out none of the entrees come with rice. Without it, I'd have been eating kung pao chicken plain out it's quadrangle delivery vessel, like some kind of feral raccoon. Raw-dogging kung pao chicken is not a bit I ever wanted to write, and yet here we are. One hour, one wrong door, and one rice-adjacent side dish saved me from a very sad, poorly sauced dinner. If there's anything I hate is when fried chicken wings are overcooked or undercooked and they were perfect. And the lo mein was delicious. We're just gonna have to give it a shot. I have been ordering from there for years and it's above bare minimum. Tonight we got the lo mein and it was such bad quality. I am now physically sick and when I called to let them know this is the first time this has ever happened they said they could not do anything about it. I physically am unable to bring the food back since I am in the bathroom in pain. It is not about the money or refund it is about the businesses ignorance to a loyal customers complaint. But their business hours and the fact that a hard hitting late night munchie after "forgetting" to eat the whole day with an empty fridge led me here - I'll bump them up to 4 stars. I'll be honest when I say that I found it rather weird walking into an establishment empty of customers and a full amount of staff behind the counters (5 in the kitchen, 3 up front). I tried to order from their kiosk, which didn't work, so ended up still having to chat with the kid at the counter who looked away the whole time while speaking under his breath. A little confused and very hungry, I finally asked him to recommend a tofu dish he'd eat...and he literally without a blink of an eye starts naming all the tofu dishes off the menu. Lol. Ok, here we go. It's probably hunger hitting hard and the sugar dipping too low that I finally just ordered away. Food came out really fast (note number of staff in kitchen; plus, it's a Chinese kitchen...with that number of staff), packed nicely and got me back on the road home. I didn't think twice as I ripped into the bag seeking hunger reprieve. Tofu with bamboo shoots? Ooh, not bad. Beef with Snow Peas? Tastes good except for the part that you over slurried it...total noob mistake. House fried rice? Let's just say Uncle Roger won't roast you. Will I be back? Maybe. Chicken Wings: 8.75 out of 10. Crispy, nicely flavored. Some feathers left on them but I don't mind. Combo (Beef Teriyaki, Crab Rangoon, Boneless Spareribs, Chicken Fingers): 8 out of 10. The crab rangoons are nicely crisp and delicious! Boneless spareribs are meaty and not too sweet or burned like some I had at other Chinese places. The Beef teriyaki is also not too sweet and has a good amount of meat on them. The chicken fingers are probably my least favorite of the bunch since the batter is a bit too thick and mushy. - 107. Spicy Salted Calamari: 7 out of 10. They did poke several holes on top of the box which helped the calamari from being soggy, though it was still a bit soggy. The flavor was a bit bland. Still, I enjoyed it. They seem very short tempered with customers including myself even though I was being polite and giving my order. I saw one of the cooks wiping his nose on his hand and continue cooking. I have always had good luck & good food from here. But tonight was the straw that broke the camels back. I ordered on line, which is what always do. 1 item was Chicken Chow Mein. What I got home it was chicken chopped suey. My wife would not eat it. I went back to the store and told them of the mistake. They told me that's what you ordered. They never showed me the receipt. And I left mine at home. My fault. I did bring back the mistaken dish. Do you think they would offer to swap it? NOPE!. So, I paid for a new dish. I got home and looked at the receipt. I ORDERED THE RIGHT DISH! They were WRONG! I should have brought the receipt with me. I e mailed my bank from where the credit card is issued. Told them to put a stop payment on the additional dish only. Which they did. Now, should I continue giving this place my business? Now I know why they never showed me their portion of the receipt. Looks appetizing, dinner plates have good portions, appetizers cooked very nicely. Appetizer combos are good options if you don't need full blown pupu platters. They use plastic bags for food that could spill, which is appreciated. They give home made mustard instead of prepackaged ones. Got delivery last night. We ordered a couple dinners and an app. The Calamari app that costs over $16. It was completely over cooked. Actually burned and not edible. I called the restaurant and they actually argued with me that it was cooked in oil and is supposed to be burned. I could not believe it. I'm actually a cook and have deep fried Calimari. Rude, unprofessional and opposite of friendly staff- you walk in and no one even looks up at you they just stand there staring at whatever they can so they don't have to interact with you. There is one man who is decent at the job, the rest are so incredibly rude especially a female with red hair. Not sure what her position is but since she stands at the register where no one else is there to help you I would assume she is there to give you your order or help you place an order, but she doesn't look at you, say anything, and when you speak up she looks at you like you have just asked her to spoon feed you and give you a foot rub for free. She's so bothered by helping customers I have no idea why she works there. Wait is SO long- even though my food was sitting right there the whole time! I wait here a lot doing pick up orders and I waited as a patron myself- decided to try it one night because it's always very busy and my boyfriend picked it up and brought it home, opened the box to find an at least ten inch black stand of hair (he doesn't have long hair or anything and I hadn't even gotten close to the box yet, I was in the other room so I am 100% confident it was from someone who works there, I always give benefit of doubt with hair because I have long, thick hair so I always make sure it's not mine before complaining about a hair in food issue). Boyfriend took a picture and brought it to show them- apparently the man didn't believe him until he showed the picture to which his response was "that's awful I wouldn't eat that either". That was it. No apology, no effort to make it right. Just confirmed that this place is disgusting if the employees think so and aren't afraid to tell customers their opinion. Even if the hair wasn't in the food, we wouldnt have eaten it. It looked like old frozen food that was heated up and something you'd get at a hospital- it was mushy and a weird gray/beige color. We got beef and broccoli, rice, and Lo main I believe. Will add a picture once boyfriend sends it to me, if he didn't delete that nastiness already! Seriously- if it's late night go to Dragon Chef or even Wendy's or McDonald's instead- at least you'll get something edible! and if it's not late night go ANYWHERE else. The prices aren't even good-I honestly think they stay in business because they are one of the only places open late night in Waltham. People literally have no other options almost so they HAVE to go here, but like I said I wouldn't even waste my time or money to get treated like a POS just to get the food home and realize it's inedible and then not even be offered any type of help to make it right. I don't need free food- but I'd appreciate some compassion and good customer service and at least an apology for wasting money on unsanitary, mushy, long black hair mixed in your noodles food. The cleanliness of the store itself is telling. I should've taken the hint- dirty store usually indicates health codes aren't taken seriously and that tells me employees just don't care. Too bad. I live down the street from this place and have done both delivery and pickup. I've never had anything bad, everything has always been fresh and hot. I'm picky with chinese and this is the only chinese food we'll eat in Waltham. Delivery orders can take a long time, but I've never had to wait more than 45 minutes - and that is usually on the weekends. Weekdays they say 30 to 45 minutes but the food usually arrives in 15 to 20 minutes. Their crab rangoons, chicken wings, and egg rolls are all delicious.. one of the best I've ever had. I liked the crab ragoon, I've ordered it at places before and it was either super tiny or not enough cream cheese but this place was crispy and good. Asia Wok serves American style Chinese food that can usually be picked up in 20 minutes or less. I usually don't do delivery when I can pick it up myself so quickly! The specials are reasonably priced and portioned, and the vegetable lo mein tastes great. The crab rangoons are not overly sweet like other places in the area, and the fried orange/sesame/Gau's chicken is crispy and flavorful.
