He leaves our kitchen just as he found it, except with two wonderful meals in our refrigerator, ready to eat, with detailed reheating instructions. There is always a little bit more than we can eat, so we occasionally invite over a friend to enjoy the food with us, or we have leftovers. What can I say about the food? Healthy, balanced, creative, and delicious. Grilled salmon with rice noodles, vegetables, and Panang sauce; swordfish Napoleans; grilled chicken breasts with rosemary new potatoes, zucchini, and squash; and simpler dishes, like turkey meatloaf with roasted red potatoes and peas, or chicken enchiladas with rice. If there is a problem, it is that the food is too good, and sometimes we can't help having seconds. Yes, it is a bit of a luxury, but really the best thing is that we get to enjoy two family meals during the week, when we would otherwise be just barely getting food on the table. From what I understand, research in positive psychology says that spending money in a way that lowers your stress level and gives you time with people you love delivers more happiness than spending money on possessions. We're finding this to be true.

Neither of us really knew what a personal chef service looked like. We love cooking but we didn't/don't have time during the week to cook. We hoped we'd get more vegetables into our diet at a minimum. That not eating out would mean less of the white devils (sugar, salt). I reached out to The Skinny Beet in a frenetic and desperate state last December. Since they've entered our lives the sun is shining, the clouds have parted and Mondays are happy (re: they are miracle workers). We have been a weekly client with The Skinny Beet for almost 3 months now. At the end of 1 month we reached out to them and shared a list of each positive benefit directly or indirectly related to hiring them as personal chefs. I would like to share this list with you (reader of my review): 1. My husband and I spend more time together. 2. We portion control better. 3. We work out more (have time to work out). 4. We feel better: less groggy, less irritable, more energy. 5. The food they make tastes flavorful, wholesome and satisfying. We get to eat our favorite cuisines with less of the sugar/salt and more grain/vegetable variety than what we know how to cook. 6. We waste less. 7. The brain space we wasted thinking about what to eat, what to cook, when to go pick things up, crap-I-forgot-an-ingredient --- Poof! Gone. Which, working full time while part time grad school, any and all brain space I can allocate to my work is priceless for me. From Week One: Flexibility with schedule and menu planning was made easy for us - We come home and our kitchen tools and pans lovingly (and somewhat expensively) acquired over time are clean - There are delicious dishes made with quality ingredients ready for devouring in the fridge. We are so grateful for the difference The Skinny Beet has made in our quality of life. Seriously, I wasn't kidding: Miracle Workers.

Well in just a couple hours we were able to cover SO much ground. From making a delicious salsa and homemade chips, to a steak and a chicken, even farro with caramelized onions. Not only did I learn tons of REALLY helpful skills that I've already been implementing, but I had delicious food that lasted me for a handful of meals THAT I HELPED MAKE! They brought all their own ingredients and left my kitchen completely spotless (possibly cleaner than how they found it) I am so thankful to these two and I look forward to our next lessons.

They set us up beautifully, gave us great guidance on the furniture choices and how to best maximize limited space, and worked out the best way to set up/serve the food with minimal use of our kitchen space. I would absolutely recommend them, and we would absolutely use them again. WONDERFUL experience.

He was incredibly helpful with picking the menu and his suggestions and questions helped to think through all of the details. When I was unsure, his suggestions were perfect. I was able to coordinate and plan from across the country and he managed everything locally including selecting the right room at the facility for our event. Little details to big were all handled perfectly and the evening was low stress for me. All of the guests commented on the food and the caterers with high complements. I would use them again and would highly recommend them to anyone. Thank you Bryan, G and Liam!

It offers pre…read moremade meals extra add ons and primarily meal kits with all the ingredients you put together and cook or mix yourself. I have tried lots of different types of meal delivery services and am reviewing this as my favorite. Why? Let me tell you. The food delivered is always fresh and all the ingredients that should be there are. The variety of things to choose is the best in mostly plant based that I've tried. There's very little waste as what you need for the recipe is there. Often there is more spice then needed, so save that for something else. There have been a few times a little spot may need to be cut off a veg., but nothing big. The pricing is ok., better than some more pricy than others but it depends on how many items are ordered. Another key point for me is if delivery is on time. I have ordered at least 12 weeks so far and delivery has always been in the time frame. Oh and cold food is packed well and kept cold. Not sure how that works in hot summer heat as I've only tried in winter. In addition the app is easy to use easy to see or adjust your final order and exactly what you are paying for. I have since cancelled in order to visit my local markets but if I were to go back to a food delivery service I'd choose them again. The only other service I can say these things about doesn't deliver to where I live so Purple Carrot remains best choice so far.

Purple Carrot is truly designed to make you overpay for low quality food. The meals often have a…read morechemical taste, and carb-heavy. But what we really dislike is the way they deliberately take advantage of you: 1) They do not allow you to combine gift cards. They claim it is not possible, but they've simply set up their system this way when it certainly is possible (think of all the other businesses who allow you to combine codes). Due to this, you need to order more in order to use your up your gift cards. There's also a $65 minimum order, since they know people give $50 gift cards and this forces you to order more than just what's on your card. 2) They automatically subscribe you to the next week without any reminders to make your selections, with a deadline of Tuesday the week before. This is an insane deadline, and they insist that they cannot cancel orders even just a day after that Tuesday deadline. They refuse to give any type of refund even when you are dissatisfied with the food, despite saying on the website that you can request one - in theory, you can but they always state their "policies" do not allow it.  Despite numerous issues (including not being informed of gift cards being given to us - I had to reach out after people asked if we had gotten them but we had not) and complaint of poor quality food, they initially refused to give us a refund on an order we did not want. They finally did issue a refund, and somehow coincidentally later that week we received a notice saying our box was damaged in transit and unable to be delivered. This has never happened before despite numerous deliveries (we were gifted a large supply with our newborn) and I suspect that they do in fact have a way to cancel orders, but choose not to in order to make you pay for them. Since they gave us a refund, they decided to cancel the order after all, despite saying that they could not do so.  They are NOT customer service oriented AT ALL and we really do not recommend anyone order from them. It's not worth it.
