Sharks, vultures, whatever you call them theyre ready to swoop in for anything: sugar wrapers, more coffee(at least 6 times from 6 different servers), katchep, hot sauce? Ive been going here for years and they always run the show the same way. One lady even stood by my table for half the meal! I obviously come here for the food...I really enjoy the breakfast buffet! Today they had corned beef hash, eggs, and french toast(see my photo). 4 stars for food, but probably mostly on the amazing service by our waitress. Located inside the huge & beautiful lobby of the Hyatt. The night we came in there was a sign by the front that said "Please seat yourself", not sure if they do this all the time or not. I had a friend waiting for me who was able to get a seat for us near the bar. The pace looked really busy, but I think that's partly due to the convention or event they were having in their conference area downstairs. It's December so the lobby was decorated for Christmas with a giant tree and a winter village (including the GG Bridge) around the fountain & sculpture. So we were set on getting a salad, but we wanted some kind of protein on the side (chicken, beef, etc) We asked about their chicken & beef. The waitress was so nice & helpful, she actually went to the back to check on the seasoning on the meats. She came back and told us exactly what was in their marinades. Then we asked if they can just do plain grilled chicken just salt & pepper no spices. She went back again and came back with a "yes". The one thing I have to say is that our wait was quite long, for "custom" food here. There were a couple tables around us who had their food out faster than ours. And we only had salads with grilled chicken. Really? I don't think it should take that long... Especially seeing that the other two tables had far more food than we ordered. Good experience. Yelp should have a zero star option. I went there with a few friends for lunch. We chose from the dine about town menu. There was not much to choose from, it was either a salad, salmon burger or the steak sandwich. The waiter recommended the steak sandwich. Most of us ordered the steak sandwich and the rest, the salmon burger. The salmon burger was...gross. It tasted like fish bait. I couldn't even finish 1/4 of my burger. The steak sandwich was just as bad. It was flavorless and really chewy. The service was bad. The waiter kept on taking our fries when we asked them not to...and they hardly refilled our waters. Came here for Dine About Town with a friend and was a little disappointed with the food. Service was alright, a little slow but courteous. The ambience is great though - the restaurant is an open area located right in the middle of the hotel's beautiful atrium. Starters - spring salad and clam chowder. I barely touched the salad - not very good - but my friend did like her clam chowder. Main - fried chicken and salmon. Fried chicken was tasty - a hint of curry in the batter makes it interesting. Salmon was fine but nothing to write home about. Dessert - Ghiradelli molten chocolate cake and banana bread pudding. OK, now we're talking. Both were pretty delicious and up to the level I was expecting. Overall, the desserts and the nice atmosphere saved the day. I think this would be a great place to have drinks for happy hour but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. read more

My wife and I had a long drive, checked in and went to the "restaurant" for dinner. The restaurant was basically tables in a bar. Loud music, huge TVs, no ambiance. Well we were too tired to go out so we ordered from the menu. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken wings. There were 3 and they were very greasy, grease was pooled at the bottom, cooked well, lacking flavor. My wife ordered the beer cheese spread with grilled bread, the bread was greasy and the chews was ok. We each ordered a drink and a desert. I had the shortcake biscuit and strawberries. The biscuit could not even be cut with a fork and knife, the strawberries were diced and I don't think they used more than 2 strawberries either. My wife had the buttermilk cheesecake, she said it lacked any flavor. The total bill was $70! Now I know that SF is an expensive city but the cost of crappy bar food was ridiculous. I go here a fair amount to get a drink and work on my laptop. I enjoy the food, although it's a little overpriced except for the happy hour specials. I'm mostly writing this because I get really, really uneven service. Sometimes I go and I'm treated well, sometimes I'm completely ignored unless they're trying to kick me out despite the restaurant still being half-empty. As hotel bar and grills go, this place is top notch. The ambience leaves a little something to be desired, as it sits right in the middle of the hotel lobby with a few strange seating options, but the food and service are reliably good. Most of the staff are quite friendly, although attentiveness can drop if it's crowded. The burger here is one of the best in the city: with extra sharp white cheddar and bread and butter pickles, it offers a lot of flavor. I wouldn't go out of my way for Eclipse, but it's really a solid choice if you happen to be around. read more

Conveniently located within walking distance from the ferry building, my fiance chose this spot to meet with some old college friends of his from England, as it was easy enough for all of us to find since it's situated in the Embarcadero. We were seated promptly, and our servers were nice, although we did have to flag them down a few times toward the end of our meal (plus, I'm pretty sure my wine had initially been forgotten about, and that took awhile...). Nonetheless, we enjoyed the food brought to us and they featured Drakes hefeweizen for a decent price, which our out-of-towners seemed to enjoy very much! I was happy to see that they featured a separate non-alcoholic cocktail drink menu, which was nice for the newly pregnant wife of one of our friends. Everyone loved their meal, and I certainly enjoyed my fried chicken with mac and cheese. However, I do think the mac and cheese could have had far less oily grease... maybe I'm just picky? Normally I would give this restaurant a four or five *but I was a little bit taken back at the service this visit... The lobby of the hotel is beautiful so the restaurant/bar has a really nice feel to it there's seating were you can dine & then there's a big bar. well it was a very very busy and that's definitely understandable so there was a little bit of weight to order from the bar and that's OK I waited about 15 minutes just to sit down but while you're standing down NONE of the bartenders try to take your order at all if you're not sitting at the bar you can't reach over and order they just simply ignored me and about 10 or 15 other people that were just patiently waiting to be at knowledged.. Busy or behind with your work you should acknowledge your customers that was the first thing.. usually they're on top of their customer service... Every single bartender behind the bar was overwhelmed and cranky. I actually had to say hey excuse me!!! can I please get a menu over here after about three different times I was ignored when I asking for one .. even got a clap back answer like "clearly the bar is full you're gonna have to go sit down and order" WTF?? no I'm not I wanna order from the bar.. eventually after this nice couple let me stand next to them because you know I wasn't at the bar so I was not being acknowledged I insisted kindly that someone take my order please whether you're busy or not just put my order in..put my order in for my food literally got an attitude the whole time... like there are sucking on lemons back they're just cranky better people...Eventually I got a spot at the end of the bar right where the drinks and the food go out and I plugged my phone in and a waitress named Claudia came up to me and said I couldn't plug ur phone in there because that's where she was standing my phone charger was not in her way at all and she was literally unplugging it and handing it to me and another lady came to me and apologized and told Claudia to chill my cord isn't bothering her it was just really odd and it left a bad taste in my mouth everything about the way they were treating the customers was wrong! Claudia was so rude for no reason I made a little speech about I don't care if you guys are busy you don't have to be rude to your customers and a couple people looked at me and was like you are so right... I was like let's not forget about kindness hear like you're at work where being nice you all are being rude and it's clear making the customer service just look so bad... I got my food I went to my room which you're really not supposed to do but I didn't want to stay there with those bad badvibes no thank you lol we're on vacation we're here to be happy not like them ...I did not tip and I enjoyed my meal by myself..:) weather your busy and overwhelmed or not there is absolutely NO reason to be rude to your customers and I got it from every single worker behind that bar and around it if it wasn't for that sweet girl that apologize for Claudia it would've been everyone ... I stay at this hotel a lot , good food doesn't outweigh I server with an attitude ;) I probably will not spend anymore of my money there, I will gladly take it elsewhere or go to DoorDash... I want to talk about our cool waiter, but I know nothing identifying about him besides his almond skin color. He was personable, made a joke that elicited some hearty laughs, and even stole some chips from the Hyatt because the kitchen was closed. Then we watched some awesome college football on what must have been a 15-foot high projector screen. If you stop here, get the same waiter, sit on one of the luxurious couches, and get beers, this is a five star review. But we had cocktails, and oh wow they were awful. Watery and sugary...I don't even like most liquor and I knew they were bad. Poor waiter doesn't deserve this two star review but this is the most honest I can be :( Also, they close at 12 midnight, which is kind of early. Location is great since it's in the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the Embarcadero. You have the pretty lights and get to look up at the hotel rooms. Ambiance is nice with the cool couches and pillows. My Auntie took me here for lunch the other day. The restaurant was not packed at all during the lunch hour. The service was OK. Kinda slow and lazy. I got the Cobb Salad ($16.00). It had grilled chicken breast, tomato, egg, bacon, avocado and blue cheese with mustard dressing. The salad was pretty good, except the chicken breast was a little bit dry. Everything was so fresh and the portion was huge. If you have plenty of time and want a quite, relax and pricy lunch, you can give it a try. read more

Great view of the impressive Hyatt atrium and hanging lights. The restaurant is open to midnight, but they stop serving food at 11pm. You can get drinks and coffee till midnight. I have had a few late night meetings here. The food in the evening is average, the service is ok. They could do so much more with this place given the amazing atrium. read more

It's been around 15 years since I last came to this location for a drink after work. Finally, given the need to get some things off my mind and that I need to do some night work nearby, I decided to relive those days. :) My drinks of choice: two Bloody Mary's. I don't know much about prices for cocktails in most places, but $10 may be pricy though not unexpected because of this being a Hyatt Hotel lobby lounge location. Here it is enjoyable to sit back and enjoy the drinks and, at the same time watch tv on the giant TV (they had the Giants game on that evening, so that was a plus for a fan like me), or enjoy watching the Hyatt Hotel environment especially since it's built so that you can see all the upper floors circling the perimeter and on up to the roof. As described elsewhere, service could have been better. There were many opportunities for a staff earlier on to come by and ask me if I wished to order something. I ended up waiting for a while and had to consider flagging someone down. read more

Yes this does restaurant does situate inside a hotel and comes with hotel prices. The food here at breakfast time is pretty damn good. The pancakes are great and the eggs cooked perfectly. I'm not sure what syrup they use for the pancakes, but its really good stuff. The plates actually come out hot and pretty damn quick; so quick I wonder how they do it. The coffee drinks were good too. I must say, I had my doubts and had low expectations, but it isn't that bad. I've also had lunch here twice recently, and I must say its pretty good. I had the bbq pork sandwich and crab cakes as well as the fish and chips. I checked with the chefs and the pork is slow roasted for about 4 hours. The crab cakes and crab sandwiches are freshly made with a home made remoulade. The breads they use for the pork sandwich and crab cakes are really soft and good. The fish for the fish and chips are made with fresh pacific snapper. The clam chowder and french onion soup are really really good, also homemade in-house. It surprises me that most of the items are freshly prepared as most hotels tend to stick with frozen products. The salads are tasty and the club sandwiches are pretty good too. The atmosphere is pretty nice. The service was good and the staff were pretty friendly. Nice open overhead with the atrium. A very nice place to relax. The prices are steep, as with most hotel restaurants, but the food I had definitely isn't lacking. I seem to have a really good time every time I come into this hotel, although I've never tried dinner here before. read more

I'm reviewing this for Thanksgiving Dinner (very late, I know, but better late than never). Solid 4.5 stars for our waiter's service. The waiter was extremely communicative, helpful and friendly, and very attentive given the fact that there were quite a few diners and their families crowding the hotel for Thanksgiving. Our Thanksgiving dinner choices consisted of pumpkin squash soup (with toasted seed garnish), salad, and turkey with traditional sides (mashed potato and green beans). The squash soup was delicious, one of the better we've had. Salad was all right but the combination of flavors and textures did not come together in my mouth. The turkey was very good - tender and not dry - but it was the stuffing that stole the show. The only complaint I had was that they'd run out of our dessert choices, but as I'm a health-conscious eater that didn't matter quite as much. Also the server (a different one from our waiter) should not have brought each dish out immediately while we were still eating. They should have at least employed a dish warmer as I think it was the entree or soup that got cold while we were still finishing the course before it. Minus a star for that. read more

Came here for DAT with coworkers. I was dazzled by the lights. The venue is lovely, housed in a large atrium within the Hyatt. Lights just seem to rain down on you in an elegant and airy space. But the food didn't really match the beauty of its setting. First course was a chicken tortilla soup, which had pretty good depth of flavor to it. A slight hint of a kick from the spices and a nice crunch from the tortilla strips. Second course---the fish tacos---was where disappointment hit. While I appreciate the choice of corn tortillas and slaw-like lettuce, the fish was not seasoned at all. AT ALL! So the entire dish was bland and flavorless. The beans on the side reminded me of something they dished up back in elementary school. Again, however, the presentation was nice... but I'd rather eat something tasty and not as pretty to look at. The bread did come with roasted garlic olive oil, which I thought was a nice touch. But it wasn't enough to save that meal. read more

To their benefit, the portions are great. This is a good place to go if you have a boring palate but want to feel like you're eating adventurous cuisine. Love the lights from the celing. The drinks were good, very tasty. I had the Rasberry lemon drop and the cucumber martini. Both very refreshing, great summer drinks to beat this heat. It would be better if they had some younger bartenders. The bartenders were older and were all speaking in spanish so who knows if they were talking about their customers. The lounge waiter in the evening was also very helpful while we enjoyed our cocktails and side of fries. I would definitely revisit this place. Pretty horrible, especially considering that it's a hotel restaurant. My family and I came here for the Christmas course dinner; it sounded great on paper, but not so hot in real life. The appetizer salad was just average, pretty tasteless. The sweet potato bisque was pretty delicious. The main, however, was where the problem began. The halibut was completely tasteless and annoyingly chewy, the "honey-glazed" carrots were tasteless as was the accompanying spinach. The steak was great, except incredibly salty; we had to return the dish. The vegetarian option, a root vegetable gratin, was the saving grace of the day. Cheesy and delicious. The dessert was yummy, but it's hard to go wrong with a chocolate lava cake. I wish they hadn't added the peppermint candy & peppermint candy sauce in the middle, though- way too sweet and interfered with the depth of the chocolate. Overall, not what would be expected out of a $53 hotel course dinner. read more

I must preface this review by saying that I know it's long. Please bear with me as I have provided detail, especially in the end section about why this place was bad, in order to help provide clarity and to demonstrate with specificity the bases for my review and justification for being able to rely on it. We just went here yesterday evening, 14 Dec. 2013, after a day in the city and were exceedingly disappointed to say the least, making it a rather poor end to the day. We have been visiting the Hyatt, and periodically getting food and drink here since I was a kid when the hotel was new but this is the first time in about 3-4 years that we had gotten any drinks or food here. The lobby of the Hyatt is magnificent, unless you hate modern architecture. It is huge, open, with wonderful angles, sloping sides, balconies, wonderful fountain, etc., making it, in terms of decor, feel and ambience, always a delight to visit. It is thus a great place to have a lounge/bar or eatery.Thus, for ambience, the place is a sure-fire 5 stars all the way. First, I must get out of the way the issue of prices: prices are high - $13 for a manhattan is high no matter the quality. That, however, goes without saying given that it's in this hotel and in San Francisco. With the ambience, the price could be, and has been, at least bearable and sometimes definitely worth it. But not this time. The food, meat loaf sliders and garlic fries were very good and enjoyable, but not outstanding. They were hardly subtle or very memorable, but they were enjoyed by all and we would get them again. They would be an easy 3 stars of of yelp's 5, possibly as high as 3.5, and worth the try in order to have something to eat whilst relaxing in this lovely space. However, and this is a huge however, the drinks (at the aforementioned high prices), were beyond dreadful. They were the worst cocktails, and for the kids, virgin cocktails we have EVER had ANYWHERE. They were easily on par with, if not worse, than the "cocktail" I had some years ago at Rainforest Cafe, a horrid place which I hope never to enter again (see my review on that). I want to make clear that this evaluation can be trusted as my wife and I are serious cocktail drinkers and cocktail makers, and have been for years. We drink everything from serious old-fashioned drinks like Old Fashioneds, Martinis (by which I mean the only drink that I would ever call a Martini - gin and vermouth and, if you like, some form of bitters) or Manhattans to a wide range of "Tiki" drinks. We know good quality and we know what goes into proper drinks. We also appreciate good-quality cocktails. That said, we are fairly forgiving and usually at least enjoy even less-than-stellar cocktails. Here, we had an Old Fashioned, a Manhattan, and for a daughter a virgin strawberry cooler-type drink. All were absolutely horrid. First, the Old Fashioned is bourbon/ rye, bitters, a little sugar/simple syrup (and if you like an orange slice and cherry), nothing more. The Manhattan is bourbon/rye, vermouth, and bitters. The menus described them properly, listing the above-mentioned ingredients and stating that they were with Maker's Mark bourbon. The kid's drink was to be Sierra Mist with strawberry puree and maybe something else. No way did the drinks we were actually served even remotely fit the descriptions. The whisky drinks were pale, the colour of diluted Irish whiskey, which is much more pale than bourbon. They were basically just sweet and tasted very slightly of a hint of bourbon, both the colour and the flavour making it obvious that they were both VERY, VERY HEAVILY watered down. I asked to have mine remade and when it came back, it looked and tasted like the same drink with a bunch of Everclear (high-proof, raw, unaged grain alcohol) added. It was simply more full than before, at least as pale if not more pale and now tasted only of raw, rough, harsh alcohol, with no sweetness, orange, or even bourbon flavour noticeable at all. As bad as the first drink was, this was worse. Our daughter's drink was simply plain club soda with a little bit of strawberry something (syrup? It did not seem like an actual puree), just enough to make it red and give the faintest hint of strawberry. Not one of us could finish the drinks. read more

The space was interesting and huge feeling given the massively high ceilings. You paid for it given this omelet was worth half of what I paid for it as food alone. Sat at the bar for a beer on Sunday at about 3PM. They were out of both brands of draft beer I ordered. Well, I don't know if they were actually out or if they were just too lazy to change the kegs. In general, service was just uninterested and the bartenders were more interested in talking amongst themselves and only showed the absolute minimal interest in the customer.
