We stopped in for a snack and got the takoyaki Japanese octopus balls and the coconut shrimp. The takoyaki was weird... a very unpleasant warm, mushy texture with little flavor outside of the mayo and sauce drizzled on top. There was a dime sized piece of octopus in each ball that is about the size of a hush puppy. I've never had takoyaki, and I wouldn't get this again. The coconut shrimp were a little on the sweet side, but they were pretty good. The fries were the skinny kind and were nicely salted and crisp. Love it! It is a small restaurant hidden behind the popular Marugame Udon. We were skeptical at first, because not seeing many people eat there. However, it was actually beyond our expectation. The shrimp is fresh and has very bouncy texture. The portion is good too, very fulfilling. The garlic shrimp's flavor is very unique, and pairs well with the white rice. The curry one is good too, the shrimp is not overcooked. I seriously don't understand why this spot is not crowded during dinner time. Probably because it is not on the main street. The shrimp themselves were just ok, and the bed of rice they were served on was a clumpy mess. If you're going to have garlic shrimp while on Oahu do yourself a favor and get it from the north shore. We saw the signs for this place when we left Marukame Udon. My son complains about shells on shrimp so he was happy to see the signs for peeled shrimp with garlic butter. We wanted to eat near our hotel but we didn't have reservations for anywhere so we looked up Yelp and saw the favorable reviews. Super happy that it was nice and casual and no lines. We sat on the patio and ate out of the to go container since that is how it comes. We did have a table to sit at and when I ordered, she asked how many diners we had since I ordered the family meal. They gave us extra plates and plastic ware for everyone so that was nice of her and nice that they were proactive about it. I ordered the Ohana Ebikahku. A single person feeds one and comes with 8 shrimp but the ohana comes with 16 (which is only 2x the amount of shrimp) but she said it fed 2-3 people. There was a lot of rice. 3 of us did share it and I guess it was enough. My stomach is full but I feel like I want a little something more - maybe dessert. The shrimp were large and plump. Only issue I had with it is the garlic is definitely the processed garlic from a jar and not fresh garlic. It has a distinct flavor and I think the dish would have been so much better with fresh garlic. Overall, it was a good choice and we had somewhere to sit and eat. read more

TL:DR: Really nice workers, really great Thai shrimp curry. Ebi Nomi is one of those spots you find by chance. Around the corner from Marukame and hidden in back of Kono's, you'll find EbiNomi. It's a small shop that specializes in shrimp ("ebi" in Japanese.) Ironically there isn't a single Japanese dish on the menu that uses shrimp, but it's fine because the shrimp is still good. We had swung by earlier in the day to scope out the menu but were too full to order anything. The nicest lady from the shop chatted us up for a bit before we left. Later that night we returned for dinner and were greeted by the same lady, and she remembered our faces. Just like earlier in the day she was incredibly welcoming and made us feel totally welcomed. So shout outs to the lady who just moved from Brooklyn. For dinner we ordered the single serving of the Thai shrimp curry, mild spice. We took a 10minute walk to the beach and ate it on the beach. Surprisingly the shrimp curry was still piping hot! The flavors were great, not too salty, not too sweet, but that perfect middle ground. The coconut milk and shrimp went so well together. Eating the shrimp curry on the beach, listening to the waves crash, and watching the sunset was the perfect way to end the day. read more

The shrimp was a jumbo shrimp that was very well seasoned and a lot of garlic for flavor. The single order portions are plenty for second meal leftovers, but they also offer family portions too. Since the kitchen is testing a few dishes, I noticed they offered Cantonese beef stew on this particular night. I'm a fan of EbiNomi garlic shrimp! Anytime you get that garlic goodness without having to peel your shrimp or de-vein it, sign me up. Plus, for us townies it's much easier to get vs. having to drive al the way to the North Shore. One thing I also appreciate is that the flavor is still there without having the shrimp soaking in oil. That's one turn off for me since you also have the rice which swims in oil. Not at EbiNomi. They are also on food delivery services so it's not like you will need to actually make the drive into Waikiki and pay for parking. The one thing I wish the garlic shrimp plates came with is some type of vegetable to balance everything out. Either a salad or some type of steamed veggie.
