The service at Eats is nothing short of abysmal. It's a case study of inefficient operations. The owners clearly don't care because I've been twice in the 4 months and the experience has been the same -- pathetically bad. Be prepared to have your side bacon while you're paying the bill. It's a good thing the food is good because otherwise we wouldn't ever return and suffer the long waits. Please, Eats, hire a dedicated busboy/host so that your empty tables can get bussed in a timely manner! It pisses me off to no end standing on the curb (along with the other exasperated starving people) seeing 5 empty, dirty tables sit there for over 10 minutes while people are waiting to eat. I went into Eats and was greeted by the nicest young lady by the name of Teal. She was ready to assist us and took our order right away. We ordered a side chocolate chip pancake and Rancheros with bacon, which were very tasty. My husband and I were incredibly pleased with our meal and we were impressed by the staff who worked quickly to make sure we were taken care of. I would definitely go back, I even waited in the rain along with 20 other die hard Eaters. read more

This is a good brunch place close to the Farmer's market in Inner Richmond. The wait is too long most of the time, but it is worth it.

My daughter and I were staying at an AirBnB around the corner and decided to stop in. The food was great and the price was right. I know others complained about the wait, but we went mid-week and had no problems getting in. read more

i love this place...i love breakfast so when i want a good one walking distance from home, EATS is where i go...their ricotta pancakes are so good, especially if you get the breakfast with 2 of them, eggs, bacon, and potatoes...i wish they had some sort of other hot sauce other than tabasco, but those are my own issues..EATS rocks read more

I had breakfast yesterday 8/03/09 at Eats and my bill came out to $18.34. Breakfast for two I thought, quite inexpensive. I payed with my VISA for $18.34 and signed for $18.34 only and I left a cash tip of three dollars. Yesterevening, while I was checking my on-line checking account, I noticed at an additional extra $4.00 charge. An amount of $22.34. The waitress, which I believe is the owner, decided to add a $4.00 amount without my authorization. From an upset customer that will never go back to EATS. Words of caution: CHECK your bank account for any extra charges after eating here. read more

Joycelyn Lee has done again! The new Eats matches the taste and excellence of her other restaurants, Burma Superstar and B Star. I had the chicken, avocado, aioli sandwich and my partner had the spinach omelet. The sandwich was a great fusion of flavors, the spinach omelette a fine blend of fresh tastes. The herb roasted potatoes that came with the omelette were to die for! I think this is the best brunch place in the neighborhood now, as well as some nearby neighborhoods. Instead of Ella's on Presidio, go to Eats on Clement. It's smaller and not as upscale but worth the trip. read more

I just returned to EATS for the first time since it's change of ownership. I already liked it, but the new people have really kicked things up a notch. I had the vegetable breakfast sandwich with a side salad. The sandwich was full of ripe avocado and was oozing with gooey egg yolk (ask for it over hard if you don't like a mess). The ciabatta was easy to chew but still had a little toasty crispness on the outside. The cheese was real sharp cheddar...I'm always impressed when a breakfast spot has quality cheese. The side salad was pretty standard, but the veggies were all ripe. Even the melon wedge on the side that I pass over at most places was perfectly ripe. We also had some fries on the table--shoe string style, not too greasy, soft on the inside, crisp on the out. The space is cramped so I would recommend avoiding peak hours. I had less than an hour before my next appointment and I wanted to have a quick bite to eat before I headed into an extended meeting that was sure to last a couple of hours. Normally when I pass by this establishment, there is a wait to get a table. But today I found this restaurant still bustling but with a couple of tables open. Perfect. I was seated and since I didn't have much time to kill, made my selection. I ordered the steel-cut oatmeal and the strawberry-lemon aid. I figured the oatmeal would be, well, just oatmeal. But it was so much more! Topped with fresh fruit, a layer of cinnamon and brown sugar, and fresh milk. Even better, they remembered to omit the walnuts (which are usually standard) as I am deathly allergic to them! It was out quick and on my table in no time. Which was good because I only had 15 minutes to eat it. The strawberry lemon aid was a great refreshing side to the brunch. Definitely going to come back and have a proper, full breakfast. read more

We love going to eats for breakfast and the food is always great, which is why we come back. But we always end up wondering if it is really worth it because the service is atrocious. I don't know how it could be so difficult to manage 30 seats but this past time it took 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee, which frankly should come immediately. The wait staff always looks overwhelmed and confused. I wish Eats would fix this - it totally deters from the experience. read more

Another unique place lost to gentrification. Old Eats was a great hole-in-the-wall with large portions and a large breakfast menu. New Eats is newly remodeled - both restaurant and menu. It doesn't look like a dive and the menu is health conscious and gourmet. The place doesn't stand out anymore. It shouldn't be called Eats, but Fancy Eats. So much for the good ol' days. If you like the new Eats, then great, that's your thing. But there are *plenty* of other places to go that are just like new Eats. There was only one small, family-run old Eats. Just finished the best breakfast to date, from Eats! We enjoyed a fun sit at the bar by the cooks. It's fun watching the cooks work, they do a fantastic job on the food (my banana pancakes were incredibly tasty!) and they're speedy but precise with the orders. Not to mention, my boyfriend happily devoured his bacon-waffle with sunny-side up eggs and potatoes, as well as, my pancakes (surprising because he is NOT a fan of bananas but these pancakes fixed that.) Here's the thing, eats is great quality food worth eating, but pretty terrible execution. I don't mind the long waits or even the prices, but the service is so sub par here that I always leave feeling a bit resentful. I've eaten here about 6 times, love the polenta and egg sando, but the spicy tomato skillet is spicy minus flavor. Anyways, I always spend at least 8-10 minutes watching lots of staff just pass by me. The wait wouldn't be so bad if someone would simply give me a cup of coffee or water, it takes about 3 seconds. My recommendation would be to get to go. Sorry Eats, I want to love you, but you need better staff! read more

Been to Eats a couple of times. I'm always happy with the menu and food. And we tried the lemonade mimosas - delish. However, the service is hit and miss. My advice - don't sit outside or at the counter. They will forget about you and will NOT apologize. On our most recent visit, we had to wait 10 minutes between being seated and having someone come over for our order. No coffee (yes, during brunch). No water. When we ordered food, we asked for both coffee and water but after another 10 minutes, I actually poured my friend coffee from the wait station. They didn't notice. And when we told our server we did that, she just said they were really busy. Btw the tables that sat down after us had coffee and water served right away. And did they at least comp the coffee we had to serve ourselves? Not a chance. Not sure if it worth coming back even though the food is good. The poor service and moderate pricing leaves no desire to return. read more

Poor services. My husband and I came here on Sunday morning for brunch. We waited for our food for 45 minutes. The server didn't approach us nor say how much longer was our food. When our food came out, my husband waffles was cold. My order was incorrect. I told the server that they made my food wrong. Not just they didn't apologize, they said it was my fault. I ordered, "Season's scramble". My husband told them, egg whites and I said no cheese because I have allergies. The server even repeated saying no cheese and egg white. The server said to us that she didn't hear what I said. So she rudely took my plate and said they will remake my order and it will come out in 2 minutes. My food didn't come out till 5 minutes later. When my food came out, they skimmed on my egg. My food was so little. When we asked them for the check, they gave it to us so rude and walked off. Honestly this place isn't worth spending your money on. They aren't welcoming nor friendly with their customers. The food was mediocre. read more

i wasn't too hot about the old EATS but it was okay, all things considered. in regards to the old EATS: the prices were affordable but it took FOREVER to get a standard breakfast and i'd always need to take another shower because i reeked of bacon afterwards. but now, the new EATS... well, i've gone once and will probably not go again. the prices are just stupid.. i think it's over 2 bucks for a typical cup of coffee!! yeah yeah, i'll admit that the oatmeal was pretty good but i only got that because i couldn't order standard pancakes! i not only dislike pretentious eating establishments, i really dislike being surprised by them. basically EATS have the same worn out awning, that part hasn't changed, but it's just a totally unexpected and not in a good way. When I went they had recently reopened and i overheard someone ask the waitress where an ATM was (because, get this, it's CASH ONLY... at those prices? sure) and the waitress said that she didn't know where it was. it was just funny, imo. plus they had 4 chefs behind the counter... i don't know. i guess i wasn't expecting that at all. i wouldn't recommend it unless you feel like throwing some money away. read more

Came here on a Sunday morning, and as expected, we had a 30 min wait( which is perfectly acceptable). The hostess was kind and polite, but the dude taking our order was a bit of a jerk. He hurried us as we were ordering, and didn't seem to oblige when we asked for basic customization (how hard is it to toss in a couple of veggies on my sandwich?!?!) . Despite insisting that everyone on the table were vegetarian, the tomato basil soup arrived promptly - only that it looked white in color and was topped with bacon. Turns out we were misinformed the soup of the day was tomato basil when it actually was a clam chowder ( so much For mentioning up front that all of us are vegetarian) . In his defense, he realized his gaffe and comped us with fruit and coffee, but the overall experience and quality of food doesn't warrant a return to this place. Fwiw we ordered a grilled cheese sandwich(average), banana chocolate pancake and waffles ( both good) , yogurt with fruit and granola(sucked) and a veggie egg sandwich (below average). If you're vegetarian and/or a stickler for a personable experience, you may want to consider alternatives. read more

After reading some of the reviews here, I am in shock!! This place is absolutely dreadful!!!! If I could give no stars I would. My friend and I have wanted to go here forever but for some reason never have, now we know why......Went in here on Sunday with my friend, got seated fairly quickly considering the place was jammed. It took 20 mins before anybody came near us. We ordered food & drinks at the same time, which my friend didn't like as she likes to have her coffee while reviewing the menu. We ordered, 2 cokes, 1 coffee... a different waitress brought the drinks... NO coffee! After about 40 mins our food eventually arrived. We both ordered sandwiches so there was really no cooking involved besides frying the fries and melting cheese, 40 mins??? I don't think so! I ordered the curry chicken salad open face sandwich which was totally inedible, I mean first, impossible to eat as the mixture was falling all over the place and second I didn't really want to eat it, it lacked flavor, and was actually making me sick to look at. I ate my fries, but was also disgusted at the ketchup, in a little half empty ketchup crusted container on the counter and it wasn't even proper ketchup! My friend ordered the tuna melt with no Chile pepper. She wasn't particularly enamored with her choice either. Firstly there was Chile peppers.....maybe if they took the orders with a pen and paper they might remember the proper order!!! and secondly the bread was fried, which wasn't stated on the menu. Nobody checked on us to see if we needed anything, or a refill on the coffee, oh sorry we never got the coffee!!!!! We finally got somebody's attention to get our check and escape!! Upon removing my plate, I was asked 'did I want a box', I said no and he asked 'did I not like it' to which I wanted to reply" If I had liked it I would have eaten it, I did come here for food after all" but, declined I just wanted to get the hell out of there. Service, food, atmosphere everything is lacking here and needless to say we will NEVER go to Eats for food again..... What a waste of $35!!! read more

I used to think of eats as a four star place and have frequented it for the past couple years, but after three bad experiences in a row I won't be going back. The last time my family and I went there we wrote our name on the wait list and were told it would take "up to 20 minutes" but really took an hour which had we known we would have gone somewhere else. The board was not monitored by a worker and newcomers would jump the list which we politely told them, but were met with a rude response from the employee. Once we were finally seated it took the server a while to even come over, we were ready to place our order right away. When the food finally came they brought one dish, and it was over 5 minutes before the next was brought, and then a while longer before the last two dishes were brought. Our waters were not refilled, though they were empty. The syrup we requested never came and apparently they think it is ok to bring out two cob salads without bacon, avocado, egg, or dressing. Of course the server never came over to check on us once our food was brought, nor did she look our way, we finally had to flag her down to tell her about the "salads" she agreed to take one off our bill, which I think they both should have been either taken off, or replaced but we were so frustrated we didn't push it. As if all this wasn't enough when we received our check it included two coffees that we never ordered. Come on! We were trying really hard to still like them, everyone has bad days, but again, this was the third time in a row going there with bad, rude service. I'm bummed but guess I'll have to find a new favorite place, so long eats. read more
