Steamed Rice, potato wedges, Side Steam Vegetable, fried chicken, shrimp (Under the Veg)
    Tommy M.

This was my first time there and I ordered off TooGoodToGo. I received a very odd variety for a Chinese Restaraunt. I got Rice, some kind of chicken I couldn't make heads or tails of, Potato wedges, fried chicken wings, vegetables, shrimp, and egg drop soup. The soup and the rice were the only thing I liked. The potato wedges were ice cold and I only live 6 minutes from the restaurant and I put it on my seat warmer in an insulated bag. The chicken was very dry and I couldn't make out the flavor of the sauced one. The people however there were very nice but there were only two people eating in the entire Restaraunt. The vibe and decorations fit the vibe of Chinese Restaraunt and the minute I was in there it seemed clean.

Attentive service and really fresh food. We got wonton soup, edamame, spicy dumpling and hunan chicken.

    Bulgogi was very good!

Stopped in for lunch, my first time there. My coworker recommended we try the Bulgogi and General Tso's chicken. I'm definitely a Chinese/Korean food snob so I was excited to see if our tastebuds matched. The General Tso's came out first with fried rice. I personally like my General Tso's crispy with that nice sticky sweet soy flavor. The sauce I'll admit was on point. One of the best. The chicken wasn't as crispy as I like but still very good. The fried rice was less exciting, with no vegetables and just a few pieces of egg. The Bulgogi with white rice came out next. Looked incredible and the flavors were good, but not as pronounced as some Bulgogi I've had. I would've liked it more flavorful with that charred grilled taste. But all in all, it was very good. Both portions were enough for two people to share and leave very full. Total was $42 plus tip and again, well worth it. I would definitely be back when in the area.

Seaseme chicken and tofu, and Vegetable Spring Rolls (2pc)

I'm pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food. I used to live above a Chinese restaurant in Chicago and I haven't been able to find any place like it in Columbus. However, after visiting Eastern Bay Chinese, I think I've gotten a little closer. I'm not usually in the area but I was easily this week and this spot popped up on my Yelp app. The reviews weren't bad (3.5 is good in my book!) and the photos of the food looked tasty. I ordered online through their website and ordered takeout. After checking out it said my food would be ready in under 30 minutes which was dope. I made my way there to find an old McDonald's converted into a Chinese restaurant. My food was ready when I walked in and it was piping hot. I had another errand to run before I could go home to eat but it was still hot when I was finally able to dive in. The spring rolls were great. My boyfriend and I shared two and definitely wanted more. Glad they had a veggie option. My sesame tofu wasn't bad either. The sauce was sweet but not too sweet and the portion was huge. Next time I'd ask if my tofu could be crispier because the sauce is heavy and makes it pretty soggy. Nonetheless, I ate most of it. When my next craving arrives, I wouldn't mind coming back.

I hesitated to come here, based on bad reviews, particularly Mike's. But, I noticed that those were pretty old, and things seem to have changed, and they seem to have new owners. Stopped in at one on a weekday. The decor is pretty standard old-school Chinese standalone restaurant. Service was good. The menu was full of the standard Chinese American offerings, plus a small authentic section in the back. I went with my usual comparison items, Mongolian beef and crab Rangoon. The Mongolian beef was pretty good, and pretty standard. Not overly salty, good slices of tender beef. Plenty of onions. Served with average fried rice. And the crab Rangoon were pretty good, with some chunks of crab in them. There's a lot more than menu I'd like to try, and I will be back when I am nearby.

If you're looking for a yummy takeout spot definitely give this place a try. I ordered so much food for a great price and all of my friends loved it. We tried a few different items and all were tasty.

Eastern Bay has a lot of negative reviews from the previous management. About 5 years ago, new management took over, and it's a complete 180 from the extremely lackluster crass management that was. This was my first visit to Eastern Bay, and Anna and I had a delightful, delicious meal with good customer service. Obviously pre-pandemic there was what looks to be a buffet area that's closed off. Plenty of tables and booths. The booth seating was very comfortable. The menu is quite extensive with plenty of Chinese American dishes; there is a smaller section of authentic Chinese dishes in the back, too. Our server gal was a doll. Very polite, gave use the proper amount of time to decide what we wanted to order; friendly personality. We shared two apps, I also got their Steamed Shao Mai; I took my Sesame Chicken to-go, since the apps filled me up. All three were excellent! All hot and filled to the max with the proper filling. I was expecting the Thai rolls to be lame frozen mush that basically would taste like fried oil - I. WAS. COMPLETELY. WRONG. I could taste every component, the shrimp and chicken were 100% present, and the veggies, while I couldn't tell you individual ones - added to the flavor. I highly recommend these! I'd easily get two of this app as my meal and call it a day. Their Crab Rangoon was also very good, not too sweet filling, hot, excellent. The Shao Mai was a solid three-for-three!! I could taste both the shrimp and pork, and the fillings were the star, not the wonton-esqu wrapping. I was super impressed with these three starters, indeed. My Sesame Chicken defaulted to to-go. It was a solid good, but I wasn't wowed by anything. I now know next time to go with a different main dish; this will be relatively easy as their website pictures show several tasty options worth trying! If you haven't gone to Eastern Bay in a long while due to the poor previous management, GO NOW, as it's completely changed hands and the food is definitely on my radar.

Dry Dry Dry, all of the food was so overcooked/fried we could barely chew thru it. 62.00 plus tip down the drain. Lesson learned.

When I walked in the atmosphere was great, I could smell good food and heard conversations. There's a large area with large round tables to right and to the left are booths and almost all of them were full. The menu was a mix of Americanized Chinese, traditional Chinese and included Dim Sum as well. There were a number of dishes we didn't know much about and there were dishes being enjoyed by other customers that looked delicious. The wait staff was more than happy to explain the dishes and/or show us on the menu what someone was eating. They took very good care of us and shared the tasks of bringing our food, filling water, and just checking in. Now the food. The food came out very quickly! We all received a well filled bowl of rice. First out was the string beans, perfectly cooked, not droopy, and the flavors of garlic and hot peppers. Even though the peppers were there the heat was not overpowering at all. Next was the shredded pork with garlic sauce. The textures of the pork and bamboo shoots were a nice contrast and the sauce was perfectly balanced and craveable. The special grilled lamb, I was told, was some of the best in the city. It was tender and well spiced. Even when he said he was full he just couldn't stop eating it. For the dim sum order we got the shrimp dumplings, soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and sesame balls and they brought a soy sauce and a chili oil with them. The shrimp dumplings were tender but the dough was pretty sticky. I think this is normal and they were tasty with some of the oil on them. The scallion pancakes were very thin and gummy, this is the only thing we ordered that I would not get again. The soup dumplings were very small but packed a lot of flavor. The dough did stick together a bit so unfortunately some of the soup did leak out. The sesame balls were the hit and we're just the right amount of sweetness that we considered them desert. They were large, at least 2" in size, with a wonderful sesame seed covered exterior and a soft, sweet center. Chuan Jiang Hao Zi is a wonderful somewhat hidden gem. If you want traditional Chinese cuisine including all the different offal they have it and I would totally try it here over anyone else if I was brave enough. Portions were a good size for the price. I highly recommend checking them out!

I had the Kung Pao Chicken & it was by far the best I'd ever eaten. So many layers of flavor & heat. (a bit spicy for me, but I struggled through & loved every bite) Will definitely be back to explore some of the more "exotic" dishes on the menu. (Wasn't feeling to adventurous this trip) The restaurant was well decorated & the staff took great care of us. Plus, I figured hibachi can take awhile, and I usually don't have a long time for lunch. Today I had a little more time, and I made a point to head over. It is a bit out of the commercial sprawl at the corner. Look for the food truck, that's the first thing I saw, and it helped me find where to turn in. I wasn't sure if there would be dine in, but there is, plenty of seating inside and out. Inside there are seats at the counter, plus booths, plus I think a couple tables. Menu is pretty basic: hibachi and a few sides. I got steak and chicken, with fried rice, and you pick two vegetables so I picked cabbage and bean sprouts. You get a Yum Yum sauce, and you can add others, but I didn't need them. And the sauce container they gave me was plenty big. The steak was tender and perfectly cooked, the chicken was tender and flavorful, cooked in a nice sauce. The fried rice was great. The vegetables were perfectly cooked. And it all came out in about five minutes. They had a steady stream of carry out customers, but they still got mine on the grill, apparently as soon as I ordered it. Fast and good, and competitively priced for hibachi. A big portion, but not a huge, two days' worth of leftovers portion. But I was stuffed and couldn't finish it all. When I saw the drink cooler with just water and a few juices, I figured I'd have to go with those, but they do have fountain drinks. And they actually have a pretty good variety, cola, diet cola, cream soda, blueberry, cherry I think, and a few others. Anyway, several pleasant surprises, the food lived up to its reputation, I was in and out fast, and for not a whole lot of money in this day and age. I will be back.
