The product is good, the process left us wanting. Eric, David, Jose and the crew did an excellent job. My frustration was with the post installation process. I got answers from Darlene that did not make sense. Sometimes her computer was down other times her phone was down. Sometimes she would call to give me a message only to realize that she had called the wrong customer. Did not enjoy working with her. Finally, Kara engaged and we got the Permission to Operate about two months after the install. Supposedly Jeff (the Business Owner) is no longer with the company and has gone back East, so not sure who is leading their future efforts. For future customers: hang on to a portion of the payment till the Permission to Operate is received not just the installation. read more

Hired East Bay Power to troubleshoot my solar setup which had been installed by another company no longer around. Jeff reached out and helped me troubleshoot the problem first before we decided to have them come out. David the technician ended up coming out and found a really serious issue that could have been disastrous had it not been fixed. The communication and quality of the service overall are what really stood out. It is late September 2024. And we just saw our latest PG&E bill. YIKES! We got a random door knocker that came by to inform us about solar. I had previously talked to SunRun via Costco and am pretty nerdy, so I had done some homework by now. The door knocker talked about solar and battery storage and gave us a quote. That quote would be better than SunRuns. In my research about that quote, I found several reddit posts about solar and specifically Tesla PowerWalls and their pros/cons and service. One thing that kept on popping up was that the actual battery and system is great, the service and parts can be more miss than hit. But there were these Ask Me Anything posts from a guy named Jeff. He provided great advice to everyone. People with general questions, to people with problems to people that had just about had it with Tesla support. What I took away from that was that Jeff was a great guy, very knowledgeable and very open to helping people, even if they were not his clients. This is the kind of person that I be if I were to run a business and someone that I would want to support. I looked on yelp and found Jeff and East Bay Power Systems. All of the reviews there were pretty emphatic about Jeff and EBPS. I called EBPS and promptly was given a quote. Their number was very fair. So now we're nearly at the end of November and we get another huge PG&E bill. Couple that with the new administration coming in and not knowing if the solar/storage incentives will go away after the new year, I call up Jeff again and not only is he able to source a PowerWall, while other companies said they are all out of stock, Jeff said that if I signed within the week, he would be able to have us installed before the end of the year. We promptly signed and the wait began... All of a sudden, the previously non existent rains started to fall and our install date was getting pushed out. I started to get nervous as I didn't know if we would actually get this installed in 2024 or not. I was anxious about the incentive and would call EBPS pretty regularly. 5 days before Christmas and there is finally a open window. The skies have mostly cleared and it was safe for their crew to be on a roof. The install crew lead by Eric show up on time, panels are delivered and the battery is on site. By mid day, they are almost done. If not for things that were out of their control, they would have been able to complete the whole job within the day. It took them 2. Still, very fast and very professional work. Eric is a top notch installer and lead. Come time for the permit inspection, there were very small things that the inspector found which is pretty typical; those were subsequently rectified and we got signed off. In the interim, there was a hardware issue with the PowerWall. And almost to a T, the interaction went just as I had read so many times over and over again on the various Reddit posts. EBPS came out and did some diagnosis but they were not able to fix the issue that day. It really was a PowerWall issue. So I was told by Tesla, after nearly an hour on hold that they would send a Tesla tech out to look at it, but it could be up to 3 months from now. I kept in touch with EBPS and they were able to secure another unit. In maybe a couple of weeks, they were back out. They removed the old PowerWall and installed a new one in a couple of hours. If it wasn't for EBPS, I would likely still be waiting for Tesla. Just as many of the reddit posts said, it really comes down to your local installer and their customer service and their ability to pull strings over at Tesla. It was at this time that I really was glad that I went with EBPS. Because I got the Tesla PowerWall and gateway, it would be very easy to also install a Tesla charger. I purchased a universal charger and I had EBPS install that as well. That went swimmingly. Other than a few communication issues, and the timing anxiety that was totally out of their control, this has been as all of the other 5 stars have lead me to expect. I would absolutely use EBPS in the future and would recommend them to my friends and neighbors. read more

Having East Bay Power Systems design install and certify a rooftop solar panel system has been a wonderful experience. Working with the team (Darlene, Jeff, David etc.) to get the system designed and installed was very easy, they took care of everything, including getting the city to approve the design/installation for PG&E. Installation was a simple one day process, and best of all, we were essentially off the grid the next day. Interestingly East Bay Power Systems use American made solar panels (Aptos) and an American made power backup system (Tesla). Not only does the system perform flawlessly, because of there high output of the Aptos solar panels (up to 450W per panel) the whole array of 10 panels is virtually unseen. As an added bonus, they set up a Tesla app on your phone so you can see at a glance how mush power the system is generating, how much is being used to power the house, how much is used to charge the backup system and how much power is being sold to PG&E. For a system this good, overall cost was relatively low, far less than what I was quoted 5 years ago by two different companies. You may have noticed all my reviews to date on Yelp have been 5 star, this is deliberate. Life is too short to focus on that which does not make us happy. This is why I restrict my reviews to those things/places/services that make me happy and appreciate life. I don't write reviews generally. So the fact that this is up here - and with this level of detail and effort should say a lot. After speaking with eight different solar companies--through Yelp and other referrals--I ended up finding Jeff through his AMAs on Reddit. His technical depth and transparency stood out immediately. He even invited me to visit a large, active job site. After that visit, I was confident he and his team could handle my project, even though it was smaller by comparison. My priorities were clear: I wanted to maximize solar output with the highest-wattage panels (I had limited roof space on my HOA-regulated, end-unit townhome), maintain an AC-coupled setup for specific reasons that I won't bore you with here, and avoid going with a Tesla battery. Jeff and his team delivered--installing 17 REC 460W panels with Enphase IQ8X microinverters. There were approval-related delays that ultimately led to switching from FranklinWH to PointGuard for the storage system. That change turned out to be a positive one. After doing my own research and seeing the system in action, I believe PointGuard offers more long-term flexibility and performance. I would have been happy with the Franklin, but I think the PointGuard is more future proof. (YMMV) Darlene was patient and responsive with me through multiple schedule changes and over a month of delays on my end. Erick, the lead installer, handled the installation with the calm, cool, and collected energy of someone with deep experience--while still bringing a genuine enthusiasm to the work. He also put up with all my nerdy technical questions without missing a beat. And the crew's work speaks for itself: clean, buttoned up, and exactly what you'd expect from people who do this week in and week out. The most remarkable part-and this was a true magic trick-once final approvals were secured, the entire install AND inspection process took just two days. Jeff even came out on the second install day to work alongside the crew, knowing they'd managed to schedule the inspector visit for that same day. The city inspector arrived three hours after completion and passed us on the first visit. As of late May, the system is producing around 50kWh per day. I'm genuinely pleased with the outcome and highly recommend East Bay Power Systems to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, reliable solar partner. read more

We hired this company to install a solar system in May 2025 but the process has been extremely frustrating. I am extremely disappointed with this company. I have been waiting for months for them to finish the project and the project is still incomplete. Each time I reach out, I'm told that they will set up the inspection appointment, but nothing ever gets scheduled. They have already received payment, yet I feel like I have to constantly follow up and practically beg them just to move the process forward. This has caused unnecessary delays and frustration. Additionally, the customer service has been unprofessional. The receptionist (Darlene) has been super rude and dismissive when I've reached out for updates, which only adds to the frustration. At this point, I am seriously considering pursuing formal action to resolve this matter. I cannot recommend this company based on my experience. read more

Do NOT use East Bay Power Systems. We were putting on a new roof, so we hired East Bay Power Systems to remove and then reinstall our solar panels. The first red flag was when Jeff raised the price $100 between the time we first spoke with him and two weeks later when we formally scheduled the work. The real problem, though, was with the permit. We mentioned the potential need for a permit before they started the work, but they INSISTED that no permits were needed. They were wrong, of course, so the county refused to sign off on the new roof because Jeff didn't get a permit for his work. At this point, any reputable contractor would have said, "Whoops, sorry," and gotten the permit. Not these guys. They took no responsibility for their mistake and left it to us (at considerable expense and effort) to resolve the permit issue. The original installation was done by a large national brand (Sunrun) and the process was lengthy and painful at times. In the end the system was functional, but the communication was subpar and it was expensive for the level of service and the equipment they used. With Jeff and Darlene I was always in the loop and was able to collaborate on which equipment was used and the details of exactly how it was installed. First, to install a Generac generator, and then second to install a solar panel system. Two prior electricians took money (a lot of) and kept giving excuses on needing new parts and took me to spin. I was done and had accepted the powerwall as hanging art and assumed it will never work. I got Jeffs reference from reddit, I thought of giving one last try and asked him to take a look at photos from old wrong install and he was prompt to respond and explain me the setup and assured I don't need any more parts. It should work. He then came to house, really looked at all things and fixed the issues. He really understands how the wires should be connected for gateway and powerwall to work together and communicate before commissioning the system. He is the boss of powerwall. Recommend him to everyone looking for powerwall solar or any other electrical issues. I found my electrician for life. His charges are also resonable. read more

Eric and his crew were awesome. They installed our new Tesla Power Wall in three hours. They were super easy to work with, the install went fantastic. They helped me open the Tesla App on my I phone so I can monitor the system. They tested the system and cleaned up perfectly before they left. Casey was invaluable in coordinating the contract and the install. I had considered a less intelligent back up power source. For instance my neighbor across the street has an immediate "kick on" traditional gas powered generator. But in order for that generator to power his house it is large, LOUD and you have to have a few five galloon gas cans handy. So it burns gas, and burnt gas makes for smelly exhaust. For the same money, you can have Elon Musk's genius working for you, a passive power "brain" that learns your power needs, saves you money and exercises common sense. Something only Elon Musk could come up with in my very humble opinion. They are in demand, so if you are serious about the issue of backup power for your home, I would not hesitate to get your order "on the books" And...."cosmetically" speaking, they are not an eyesore, but rather, dare I say a "status" symbol. Especially at night when the Tesla Logo is illuminated. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy an engine in my car. But not in my backyard. read more

My first contact with East Bay Power Systems started with a request for information from Jeff. He really knows his stuff. Even though I do not know much about solar panels and home powerwalls, I found Jeff's explanations easy to follow and informative. He said part of their package is that they do all of the requirements including permits, electrical work, etc. Yesterday, Eric and their crew completed the installation of our solar panels and powerwall in less than a day. I was very impressed with how efficiently they completed the installation. Also impressive is how well each of the workers worked together. It's obvious that they have done these installations many times. I don't believe newer solar companies would be as efficient as these guys. After they completed the job, Eric made sure I was able to download the app for this system and showed me what everything meant. Last, but not least, is that they cleaned up after they were finished. This type of installation creates a lot of stuff from unpacking and so on. It is really rare when the area that they did their work in ended up cleaner and neater than it was before they started. I would highly recommend Jeff, Eric and their whole crew to anyone thinking about solar panels and powerwalls. At the very least, ask Jeff to compare the costs of using your electric company vs. going solar. It may or may not work for you, but you will never know unless you ask. For us, it saved us a considerable amount of money per month on our electricity bill. Add to that, not much concern about blackouts. read more

Initially, this company was extremely responsive and did everything they said they would. Unfortunately, my Tesla charger was not charging. I initially spoke with Tesla customer service and they've never heard of this company but told me to work with them to try and get it resolved while keeping my ticket open. After numerous phone calls (6 months now), nothing has happened as the lady on the phone keeps telling me they are back logged. My charger charges now at 14% which has dropped from 18% since they installed the wall panel. Do not use them. Horrible customer service. read more
