I truly do not enjoy writing negative reviews, but I do believe in helping others to make informed decisions. I was in need of a licensed, capable, and highly rated electrician to replace a 44-year-old exhaust fan in the master bathroom of my condo. Checking Yelp, S&B Electric was one of the first I saw that matched my criteria. After reading many of the reviews, I submitted a request for quote through Yelp (late October or early November 2025). I received an automated text response with a list of questions to answer. I responded accordingly. Below is a timeline of subsequent communications: 11/03/25 - I sent a text to S&B requesting confirmation of receipt of my information. No response. 12/05/25 - I called and left a voice message 12/06/25 - I called Stewart directly and received an automated response stating, "I'll call you back." I replied, "Thank you." 12/06/25 - Stewart returned my call. During the conversation, he requested a photo of the existing fan. I obliged and immediately sent a picture. When I sent the picture, I received another automated response with the same questions I had received before. I completed them again in response. I received no confirmation of receipt. 12/10/25 - I sent a follow-up text to Stewart. No response. 12/17/25 - I called Stewart again, and again received an auto response, "I'll call you back." No call back happened. I put the entire project on hold for the next five or six months and focused on other things. During this time, I received no communication from Stewart or anyone else from S&B Electric. Always wanting to give people the benefit of the doubt, I decided to try one final time. On 5/06/26, I sent another request for quote through the form on the S&B Electric website and received an immediate automated response confirming receipt of my request. As of 5/13/26, I still had received NO RESPONSE. At this point, I had completely given up. I understand that many people had wonderful and positive experience with S&B Electric, and that is what I had based my initial decision off of. However, when a business or representative thereof fails to at least extend the courtesy of just replying to say they cannot, for whatever reason, accommodate a request for service, that non-response is equivalent to poor service overall. That said, since I cannot speak to the quality of their work, I must base my review off of the facts above. If the amount of stars is based on that, it would be 0/5. Consequently, I ended up working with another locally/minority owned/operated contractor, who not only provided exceptional service from initial call to intake to invoice, but they also got the job done in less than three hours and will be my contractor for all future electrical needs in my current home, and future home. read more

That claim doesn't hold up, as I had the exact same work completed by another licensed electrician without any issue or code concerns. This appears to be a difference in opinion--not a legal violation. You also mentioned that multiple electricians refused the job. That's not accurate. I received multiple quotes, and while you declined the work, another licensed contractor completed it safely and professionally. I do apologize for not letting you TAKE ADVANTAGE OF US and enforcing your unreasonable and unsolicited request to spend TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS moving the panel and installing copper wire. First of all, I want to say that Derek and crew do good work. The project included new circuits, pulling wire, junction boxes and outlets, hooking up electrical, fixtures, plugs and a switches to a remodeled outdoor kitchen. Everything had to be waterproofed. They did this methodically and thoroughly. I would not hesitate one bit to call them and get a bid. This is what I would want to know through reviews going into this: They were certainly not the lowest bidder but they were initially responsive and said they could get to the project within the week. The following Thursday from time of initial meeting, in fact. This was the MAIN reason we went with them even though they were a bit higher than 2 other bidders. And we liked Stewart who seemed personable, very experienced and knowlegable in the field. We've done many many projects with many properties so this wasn't our first rodeo. Where they lost a star was when I had to do all the follow up and follow through for the start date, and the follow up when they didn't show on the day that was agreed upon. Running a project that involves other contractors gets tricky because everyone is on a schedule. So when there's a no show it causes domino effect issues. And there might be costs incurred due to this delay. And those costs should not be on the client if you created the excess work by not showing up. As electricians, they are good! Administration, communications, scheduling and accurate billing needs a lot of work. That's where it got sloppy. But I didn't leave a 3 star because Stewart worked with us to iron these things out. Again, I had to be insistant on those details. So for someone who is not comfortable with administration, this might be a frustrating experience. read more

My electrical in both my bathrooms went out and I had pressed all the buttons and flipped all the fuse box switches. I had called another electrician that was a no-show. The person on the phone at S&B told me for homes built in the 80's and 90's you need to also press the reset button on the outlet in the garage, and it worked! :) So awesome that they were kind enough to tell me this, they saved me a lot of time and money! If I ever have a "real" electrical issue in the future I'll for sure use them! read more

Our AC likes to go out in a heat wave, and this one was no exception. I followed up with Stewart over text when he responded to my inquiry here. He squeezed us in for the next day, was gracious about my check-ins with him as the house got hotter, and showed on time (!). The fix ended up being a simple blown furnace fuse. He pulled out the fuse and showed us exactly what kind to get and where/how to install it. He said since he didn't even get tools out (used our screwdriver to get to the furnace fuse), he refused our offer of payment and asked us to pay it forward when we get the opportunity. I had used S&B Electric for an emergency service a year ago which turned out to be a "duh" moment for me. Since they had been so responsive back then, I hired them again to tackle a list of small electrical jobs that I had built up since the previous visit. Scheduling for non-urgent tasks took a while as they were busy and so was I, so it took three weeks (including a reschedule) to find a time that would work for both parties. Stewart texts back pretty quickly if he can't take a call. Derek and Jose ended up coming over to swap out our porch lights, upgrade a video doorbell, and change out several interior and exterior outlets/switches. With video doorbells, I was already familiar with the software setup, but was too lazy to figure out why it wasn't connecting to our home's mechanical chime. (I had been using a plug-in connected chime as a workaround solution.) During setup, the mechanical hardware house chime occasionally rang, but the rest of the time, it didn't, so it may be that there was a transformer compatibility that I didn't want to spend more time troubleshooting. The porch lights were swapped out pretty well. The outlets too. We did discover that the outlets in our rooms weren't logical in the wiring. Some bedroom outlets were on the same circuit as the living room outlets while some of the primary bedroom outlets were connected to a garage GFCI outlet that had tripped and no amount of circuit breaker flipping would turn it on until we reset the garage GFCI's outlet. I appreciate that Derek came back to figure this out and isolated the GFCI portion away from the bedroom outlets. I also appreciate that he used it as an immediate teaching/knowledge sharing moment for his colleague. Both electricians were polite and professional. Happy to use them again in the future should the need arise. read more

We were without electricity in our garage causing the garage door opener, washer/ dryer, sprinkler system, and even our security cameras inoperable. My husband tried a few things to no avail. I called the company and the owner Stewart answered. He asked all our information and asked me to send a picture of our control panel. We recently had S&B come out to our house and Stewart, the owner, gave us a quote for installation of 3 ceiling fans and repair of a couple electrical outlets. He took pictures of the rooms we wanted them in and the outlets that needed repair so when he sent us the quote, he had listed specifically what was being done so that there were no questions as to what charges were for what repair. Derek and Jose came out the day of installation and were very easy to work with. They made sure to cover and tape off everything in all the rooms to protect from dust and debris when cutting holes into the ceilings. They ran new electrical and installed new switches along with our new fans. Once done, Jose did a nice job of vacuuming and cleaning up the rooms before leaving. I highly recommend this company! I've installed many light fixtures before, but this one was a challenge. After several failed attempts, I decided to hire an electrician and chose S&B through Yelp. I let Yelp send my request to multiple electricians, hoping for the best deal. One quoted me $325 just for a service call--no thanks. Around 8:30 p.m., Stewart from S&B texted me. We spoke for about 15 minutes, and he even walked me through troubleshooting my chandelier--on a Sunday night around 9:15! I was amazed by his generosity and professionalism. When I still couldn't fix it, I asked Stewart to send someone out. Jason arrived Monday afternoon, installed the chandelier (which required drilling into the ceiling support), replaced a switch, and even got my porch light working. Well what he could have done was call and texted before or even during the appointment window instead of well after, by which time I wasn't home anymore. Had he called or texted then. I would have been happy to try to reschedule. Instead they just blew off the appointment until after they were supposed to be there. Excellent customer service. Yesterday morning (Sunday 01/19/25), I called to leave a voicemail, but instead Stewart picked up and chatted with me for 5-10 minutes about the scope.
