I found Hamblin Electric on Yelp. Josh replied promptly and I requested quotes on a few different items that I have wanted to get done. There were quite a few, but prioritized installing 2 ceiling fans upstairs that had no existing wiring and 2 garage outlets. The quotes were reasonable and we were able to schedule an appointment within a week of the request. His lead Peter and his Apprentice Joey showed up promptly on the day of the appointment first thing in the morning. As the ceiling fans had no existing wiring there was a chance that quite a few holes may have been needed to run the wiring, but thankfully Peter and Joey were able to run the wires through to the requested areas via the attic access which was a tight space. They only needed to open about a 7" X 8" square of drywall aside from the holes needed to mount the fans for both rooms. For the garage outlets we just decided on conduits outside the drywall to the requested areas of the garage, which worked out well. Overall, I think they did a fantastic job. They kept things clean, performed high quality service, and completed everything relatively quickly considering the level of effort. I will reach out to Hamblin Electric for future electrical needs. I met Josh (and his dog!) while sitting outside at Primos Pizza in Danville a while back. Turns out we had a mutual friend, got to chatting and I learned he was an electrician. I had some outlets in my daughters room that weren't working and initially called my handyman to try and figure it out. Hours spent and no resolution...to the point where my handyman gave up and told me to try someone else. I remembered that I had met Josh previously and reached out to him. He had his lead electrician, Peter, out to my house within a few days and he was not only able to diagnose a tricky problem (wires had been cut within the walls) but was able to get everything up and running without having to open up walls or make a mess. I lost most of the power in my house. A small amount trickled in. I called Hamblin Electric and described the problem to Josh. I thought that perhaps my main panel had gone bad (a 1964 house). He said that he could stop by but that it sounded like something that PG&E should check out first. I called PG&E and they were there within 2 hours. The repairman discovered a bad splice at the PG&E box and repaired it. Everything was fine. The repairman complimented Josh for recommending that I call PG&E before having Hamblin do a service call. Josh had said that I should first try to make sure that the problem was not with PG&E, rather than coming out and charging me for the visit only to have me then call PG&E. This is a bit of a mixed review. Did the job get done? Yes Timely: Kinda Initial quoted cost in line with others: yes, a tad higher @ $500 Final bill was the same as quoted cost: NO - was billed @ $1100 Communicated about the bill prior: NO Friendly: yes I had 2 bathroom fans that needed replacing. The first quote from a place I contacted Jan 3 was $450, provided I purchased both fans (I did) but the work wouldn't be done until Feb 14. Joshua @ Hamblin said he could do for $500 as long as I purchased all the parts (the quote was given in a yelp message and via text) and would be done by Jan 28. I opted for Joshua. Hamblin changed out the first fan then were stumped by the second; they had never seen an exhaust fan like mine. They took the fan with them so I had this hole in my ceiling without the option of trying to purchase a replica. They wandered off and I couldn't reach them for about 3 weeks. They came back out on Feb 24 and installed the second fan. It all worked. The bill I was sent: $1100. That's over a 100% increase from both initial quotes. There was no prior conversation about a change in the cost estimate for the work, and I have no way to partially pay the bill. The other electrician was going to charge me less than the $450 but I didn't want to wait too long. Hamblin not only charged me much more, but took even longer than the $450 quote. I'd be extremely cautious working with these guys. They're new (didn't know how to change out one fan) and had follow-up/communication issues. read more

I just finished a Main Service Panel upgrade and added an EV Charging Circuit with Hamblin Electric. I wanted to work with a local business and interviewed several companies. Now that my project is over I am glad to say I made the right choice. The Hamblin electricians who did the work were courteous, professional and on time. I have some cosmetic work to get done where the old panel was installed but it already looks so much better than it did and I have a convenient charging station for my EV. Josh, the business owner, offered the most comprehensive estimate for my project than his competitors, and his preliminary job cost estimates were right on the money. He even advised me on other fees for the city permit and PGE services, so my total project costs were well within the original range he provided. One thing I did not think enough about when I was choosing a contractor, and I think this is very important, is the relationship the contractor has to have with the city and PG&E. I learned it's not just about the electrical work: It's also about project management and coordinating those other resources necessary for the project. I did know a bit about permits, but not all the inspections and certainly did not consider PG&E's role. During the project I had multiple inspections by the city and PG&E and they both commented on the quality and neatness of Hamblin's work. They commented, unsolicited, that I made a good choice when I chose Hamblin Electric as my electrical contractor. read more

At night, the circuit breaker for our master bedroom and office tripped, and I could not reset it. We lost our Wi-Fi and could not even watch TV. I called Josh in the early morning and explained what happened. He said that he could come to our home at the end of the day. i cant believe its been 15 years since i started writing these yelp reviews. its been an incredible journey since we used to host the yelp parties, organize the yelp bay to breakers, and rage like the overall hotmesses we used to be! i used to review things like the lunch at goldclub, when i had my ankle bracelet on. right now, i am writing a review on a high end electrician installing a $9,000 chandelier in a 7,000 sq ft house. life does get better. and you find better electricians as well. i made the mistake of taking my mom to restoration hardware to buy a new couch. we ended up with a much larger couch, a coffee table, a few odds and ends.... and a new giant 60" crystal chandelier. buying and receiving these items is one thing, now how do you install a giant chandelier in a grand room? first world problems, but here we go. not only are there height issues in this two story grand room, you also want to do the minimal amount of patching so the drywall doesn't look all odd and mismatched. Josh and his team was able to fish all the wires through cleanly where they basically was no patch work to be done. I have no idea how they did it but they did. and Josh's team were good folks. my staff sergeant 101st airborne, born and raised during the Korean War in Korea isn't the easiest person to deal with, but they took it in stride. I found Josh through a guy at an electrical supply house. I got three bids for my work. His bid was right in line with the two others. I needed my service upgraded to 200amps to prep for solar. I had a good feeling about him because of his immediate response and not afraid to set a date with me. My feelings were correct. Not only did my install go smooth, I even had him upgrade the service on my Son's home. PG&E will delay the install a bit but even they were responsive through the project. Peter, his electrician with his helper are pros. They were timely (on time), neat, clean and kept me updated. Peter was a pro when using the 2" bender to bend the rigid pipe to meet PG&E requirements around our gas meter. The Concord city inspectors even appreciated the nice work. I'm glad I found Hamblin.
