We looked at solarcity, gosimple solar, and also doing it ourselves via a wholesale distributor. Gosimplesolar came in right in the middle in terms of price which was nice but the key things that stood out for them was the customer service and trust. Their sales rep did his homework on our house and then came over with drawings and and Full financial mapping. I am in high tech and business for my day job and he already done much of that research myself but they nailed it and were honest about the size system we needed. Solar city had oversized it. For purchasing they even let me purchase the solar equipment direct and get credit card points. The paperwork process was a breeze and they handled everything. Even the install with the workers was smooth and on time. When we hit a snag in terms of running conduit and making it look good they even hired a contractor to cut into my roof and make it run in the closed attic and then repair it so it looks brand new and clean. We are already producing electricity that is right on par or above their estimates. They got started within a couple weeks of signing the contract and done within a week. They hit every day of their schedule. Update 5 months in. They modeled that from January to May I would produce 6300kwh. Even with all the rain I am coming in at 6700. Appreciate the conservative modeling and over delivering :) read more

Go Simple Solar has by far been the worst experience. We decided to go with them for a Roof/Solar Install. Their representative was amazing in the beginning, sadly this did not last. Our representative seemed to lose interest once he was paid and left us to pick up the pieces. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. read more

My review must have struck a nerve with the owner below, he's revised his response to my review at least 10 times! It's starting to get out of hand and I'm starting to feel a little threatened! If only he put forth the same effort in their initial response to my online quote request. He even had my first update removed, let's see if he likes this one more. Their response did not mention anything about not being able to relocate our solar heating system for our pool or that they couldn't install a system that made financial sense. There response was (cut and paste from the actual email): Thank you kindly for your interest in our company. Unfortunately, due to our current work load, we will not be able to assist with your solar needs. That being said, we would like to recommend a few products as well as another local installation company. So everything the owner wrote in the dozen times he worked on his reply, while may be true, was never communicated to me until several days AFTER I posted my review. Personally, I think it's garbage back peddling and just an excuse that he came up with after the fact, but that's just my opinion. Oh, and he spelled my name wrong. If this is the kind of guy you want to give your business to, go for it, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it. And owner, I don't expect you to apologize for turning my project down, but you should apologize for, in my opinion, blowing me off, being a jerk and posting personal information. That's no way to run a business sir. read more

We wanted to install solar to offset electrical usage as well as thermal solar for pool heat. We did a ton of research and interviewed a number of companies. Once we determined we wanted to purchase the panels rather than lease (to get the federal tax credit) we interviewed 3 companies and selected Go Simple Solar for a number of reasons: 1. Mark and his team were BY FAR the most knowledgeable people we met. They knew the specs on their panels, competitors' panels, PG&E's process, city requirements and expected changes, and how to deal with our HOA. Based on his knowledge, he immediately had us questioning information that the other service providers had given us. 2. His team was able to coordinate a partial roof replacement, thermal solar installation and the installation of their panels without needing any assistance from us, smoothly and effectively. 3. They were able to work under a really tight timeframe to coordinate HOA approval, city approval and installation of the entire project with tie-in to PG&E all by the end of the year. The entire process took less than two weeks. Mark was available day or night, locally or on vacation. He stayed late in his office during our first meeting so that we could discuss our options and make decisions quickly. He walked through all of our questions and all of our follow up questions and coordinated the entire project seamlessly. He and his team were an absolute pleasure to work with. With our own businesses to run, a toddler to chase around and the holidays I was extremely grateful not to have to worry about anything to do with this project. When we had second thoughts about the style of panels we chose, Mark brought one of each panel style onto our roof so we could see for ourselves the impact of our choices. He made changes to our order immediately without making us feel like a "problem" customer. He genuinely wanted to make sure that we made decisions we were happy with long-term for our family. Now that our panels are installed, my husband loves to check their online system to monitor the performance of our system. Our system is out-performing what we expected and we are thrilled with the results! Before you go with any other solar provider, do yourself a favor and interview Go Simple Solar! read more

An outstanding, locally owned, accessible solar installation company is what you'll get when working with GoSimple Solar. The whole team, from the CEO to the licensed contractors used for installation, are friendly, informative, and ALL easily accessible. Example, when I had a simple question about our project, I emailed the crew at GoSimple. Not only did I receive a prompt reply (same day), but the CEO emailed me back! Mark just wanted to make sure I was happy with the process to date. When you sign up for installation with GoSimple, they take care of Everything!. From start to finish. All you do is provide your energy usage, explain your overall goals (electric vehicle, future anticipated power needs, etc), then GoSimple takes care of the rest. They don't try to upsale you at all. In fact, quite the opposite. Their goal for you is to OPTIMIZE your power bill and to shorten your ROI (return on investment). Erasing your power bill might not be the best investment. The team at GoSimple actually advised me to down size my system in order to improve my ROI in addition to saving me money up front. Ownership is the best option, hands down. These guys at Go Simple will take you through it, start to finish. I recommend them without reservation. read more

We chose Go Simple Solar as a vendor for selfish, devious reasons! Mark Becker is a neighbor. I didn't know him before calling for a survey, but figured a neighbor couldn't afford bad press in his own back yard and would do a decent job. After meeting Mark and his partner Bob Libby, I realized my concerns were immaterial! These are the two most honest, upfront, and cooperative business people I have dealt with in a long time. They have the best technology to assess your solar potential benefit and can tell you what to expect on September 12th of next year for production. Their assessment tracks trees for shadow potential! Once we decided to proceed, Mark and Bob kept us fully informed about the process and did all the paperwork for PGE and permitting. The whole installation was designed to reduce our usage 50% and our bill by 75%. At the end of our first year's true-up period with PGE, our total usage bill was about $220 (for the year) instead of our normal average of about $110 per month. We got better than expected results. If you want an honest, accurate appraisal of what solar will do for you and an efficient skilled installation team, choose GoSimpleSolar. Feel free to call Mark Becker for my phone number if you want more details. Daniel - Danville, CA read more

So this is my first review on yelp, or in fact anywhere on-line, but for once its worth taking the time to share the outstanding experience I had. When it comes to contractors there are two important factors that I look for, other than the work product itself; communication and reliability. Mark and Bob kept in communication regularly from the initial quote throughout the process and even after the job was completed and paid for. Every call or email was returned promptly, despite me asking an insane amount of questions. Furthermore, they showed up when they said they would, completed the job on time and left the site looking like it had never been touched. They made the whole process easy and understandable, they are a local company using US made products, which is great. My system is already performing above the projected level and I could not be happier with my decision to buy solar or use Go Simple. Even a potential delivery snafu (outside of their control) was quickly and efficiently dealt with. I had no problems at any stage, and even if there were problems in the background I would never have known which is a tribute to the professional way Mark and Bob run their business. I could not recommend them highly enough. read more

I can't say enough about GoSimple, great product, super craftsmanship and excellent service. What a great partner to have when you're smack in the middle of a major home remodel-- they were super flexible on installation and project timeline. Remodels are always difficult to manage especially when you have major infrastructure dependencies that need resolution before solar can be fully installed. GoSimple lived up to their name! I highly recommend this company. read more

Taking on a high value home project like Solar requires a company and implementation partner that is completely committed to your success. After getting quotes from half a dozen providers (harder than you think 5 years ago), GoSimpleSolar has exceeded our very high bar expectations TWICE as we completed both an initial solar install almost 5 years ago, and expanded our solar footprint earlier this month as our family (and energy needs) grew. From the start, we were walked through every step of the process, from understanding the energy needs of our home, how to maximize the efficiency of the panels, and the required steps for installation on our roof. Calls and emails were always answered promptly and with the answers needed to ensure we were making the best decisions possible for our setup. Almost 5 years in and the electric bills continue to be way down (even more than was originally expected), and the team continues to be available to us for calls, questions, and inquiries with prompt replies and great ongoing insight as the landscape for solar generation and PG&E is constantly changing. For a super long term commit like a Solar installation, it's great to know that we have GoSimpleSolar as our partners... Exceptional from the start, 5 years in and as our $$$ savings continue to grow, they just continue to prove that we made the best choice possible for solar in our home. read more

I bought solar panels from Go Simple Solar around spring of 2014. One of the best things I've done to save money. I have a big pool so running pool equipment 12hours a day can run up the utility bills pretty quickly. I worked with Dima on securing the system I wanted. Go Simple Solar did not try to sell me more than I needed. But I requested extra panels because I was thinking of getting a heat pump which would provide A/C and heat depending on the time of the year. I wanted to get away from using gas if I could use the electricity generated by my solar panels. My electric bill has been basically just the fees and taxes PG&E charges for being on their grid, usually $5 to $8 a month. Much better than the approximate $300 I was paying in the summer without solar. GoSimple Solar's workers are conscientious and professional. Mark, the owner, makes sure everyone works to his high standards. I'm very pleased with how everything is working. Now I leave lights on around the outside of my house without worrying about running up a big electric bill! read more

GoSimpleSolar installed a 4.95kW DC system with 22 panels on our home in Lafayette. These guys were great from start to finish. We were presented with a professional legal contract that complies with CA State contracting laws. We've dealt with many contractors and this was the first time a contractor told us that they were not legally allowed to take more than a $1,000 down payment from a customer. The panels showed up on time and the job was completed on schedule. We didn't have to deal with any permitting or city issues and they even helped us file for our state rebates. The system looks and works great and is delivering better than expected output. We would highly recommend this company. H.E. Lafayette CA. read more

I called them they asked me to fill out a form on their web site. So I did at the end there was a comment section so I wrote "I did not like their form". this is the email I got back from them. I'm sorry you're not happy with our form. We need this data to be able to provide an accurate solar PV design for a customer. The form is meant to create important dialogue between prospective customer and contractor, it's also designed to determine if the prospective customer will be a good fit for our business model. The information provided is not sufficient for me to be able to design a solar PV system for you at this time. All the best in your pursuits of solar. Regards, I guess they are pretty busy to not want new costumers. I did not think I was being rude- the form was long. I also did not realize I was being interviewed to see if I am a customer that "will be a good fit for our business model". Very strange experience read more

We bought 12 solar panels from Go Simple Solar about a year ago. The owners, Mark and Bob were extremely knowledgeable and professional. They were not pushy and did a very thorough analysis of our solar needs. Installation was done ahead of schedule too. We have seen a significant savings in our pg&e bills as well. The company fully explained and stuck to all cost estimates and cleanup was fantastic. Mark even helped with the rebate process and setting up the web based interface. I would highly recommend them! The entire experience was outstanding! read more

We were very impressed with the professionalism and patience of Bob and Mark as they walked us through our options for a solar system. They went well beyond the simple PG&E calculus and really looked at our power uses. From this we were able to optimize our system for our current usage profile, but also plan for future changes that we expect. We contacted 4 other suppliers and Go Simple was by far the most professional and most capable of explaining their recommendation. We had a 20 panel system installed on our house. All the work was done on time and as promised. All permits were handled by Go Simple. It has been a real turnkey operation from our perspective. And the web-based tracking system is a great way to 'see' the value on a daily basis. Great work, but a great partnership. We highly recommend them. Jim & Barbara read more

Bob and Mark did a great job on our install. They were very upfront about pricing and designed a system that would maximize our power generation, but not produce too much which would be wasted and not financially savvy. They actually got our panels delivered and installed 2 weeks earlier than promised and immediately we were producing power. I'd use them again in a heartbeat. read more

Of the 5 solar companies I called for a quote, Go Simple was one of the 3 that replied. No games like some of the others. Straight forward information. Steve was always willing to answer my questions and concerns. Sometimes I asked the same question multiple times to make sure I really understood and he never wavered in his patient approach. No hard sell at all! Solar is a large purchase and I would recommend Go Simple without hesitation. Everyone I dealt with has been great. Mark, Bob, Steve and the install crew all were fantastic to work with. Compared to other construction projects over the years, this was amazingly easy. If only every company was like this! read more

If you need to summarize in one sentence, I suppose what I liked most about Mark and Bob from Go Simple Solar (GSS) is their honesty. However, more detail is what a review is about, and I want to share what I think sets Go Simple Solar apart from the rest. 1. GSS gave the fairest estimate with the most appropriate sized system for our home. I had all estimates cross checked by my Engineer friends, so my conclusion was based on data not perception. I tried the big solar companies that want to put in panels at no cost. Their estimations were always significantly higher than GSS. I should not have been surprised since these companies make their money on credit backs from the Government when they pay for the capital investment. The old saying "nothing is free" is very true when dealing with those big impersonal solar companies. 2. Mark and Bob addressed all my concerns thoroughly. When I received a "potential" Lien notice from one of their sub-tier suppliers (they were just as surprised); they made sure I knew precisely what was going on and why. They even gave me the number to the particular supplier, so I could explore options. In the end I paid everything through GSS. Bob made sure the lien potential was removed, and validated that I received a letter to that affect. 3. GSS provides the small business approach. They were on site every time a sub-tier supplier was there, and they did much of the work themselves. Every piece of work was first rate, and installed professionally with the highest quality. 4. GSS is a veteran owned company, and that is always a good thing. 5. GSS is a local company, so I am investing in the local economy 6. My wife and I know personally one of the people that works for GSS. It is rare to find a company the prides itself in customer support, is honest, meets deadlines, and is run by nice people. Perhaps GSS will consider broadening their business plan, so folks such as myself can come back. After all, I am confident the system they installed will certainly last well past the stated warranty. read more

These guys do an excellent job and are highly professional. They show up on time, work hard, and clean up everything before they go. The team at Go Simple Solar are great! Two friends recommended them to us and we were very impressed with the thoroughness of their analysis of our bill, the detailed information about what we could expect from our solar installation and their focus on good customer service. Dima, Aaron and Mark were responsive to our questions and kept us up-to-date with the progress of our order and installation. The weather wasn't very helpful, but they knew we wanted the installation completed before the end of the year and they made it happen. The installers were friendly and thorough and very conscientious about leaving everything very neat and tidy. All of our emails were answered very promptly and they never seemed to tire of our questions! We highly recommend them for your solar needs. read more

Is there is a 10 star rating because Mark and his team would deserve that an more! Mark has been nothing short of remarkable through this entire experience. He delivered the entire project a few weeks ahead of schedule and the entire team we worked with from roofing to plumbing to electric were top notch. Each and every individual involved in our project was committed to delivering the very best system and solution for us. The respect and care for our home was impressive. GSS completed installation of the solar system on our home about two weeks ago. It was a 5-star experience for our family! From the first contact with Mark, through project management, roofing, electrical, and inspections we knew we had a first-rate team working for us. The entire process was turn-key but what I appreciated most was how GSS educated us through the process and was ALWAYS available if we had a question or needed anything. To make this even better, we had the opportunity to support a local veteran-owned business as well. I'd highly recommend GSS to anyone considering solar generation on their home. Working with Go Simply Solar was a very professional and enjoyable experience. We were considering solar power and had some challenges as to how to design and position the equipment within our yard. We recently had GoSimple install 2 arrays with a total of 31 panels. After talking with several other solar companies it was a no brainer to use GSS. The knowledge the whole team displayed as well as the constant updates were invaluable. The project was started on time and completed early. They took the time to move a few vents so the panels would be more efficient, this is something I had never considered. From Steve, Dima, Mark and the rest of the team, I felt that the customer service was top notch. I always received a email/phone call within an hour or so of contacting them. Lastly, our panels are producing at a higher level than they estimated, and they've taken care of all the necessary PGE paperwork and followed up to ensure that everything was in order. Its been 2 years so thought it was time to finally write a review. We are so very happy with our solar panels. Honestly, once they were installed we haven't had to even think about them again (except when our PG&E bill comes during the summer months and we do the happy dance that its under $20). Installation was seamless, and the team at GoSimple was always available to answer our questions during installation (and of course, after). Its great to know we are supporting a local business AND getting the best product and service possible. We considered the panels not only as investment in our home, but of our planet. We've recommended GoSimpleSolar to many of our friends and neighbors, they've been as happy pleased as we are with the end result. read more

I received three bids for solar installation. GoSimple Solar was the most comprehensive and easy to understand. Two representatives came to the house, inspected the roof and prepared a proposal. The company coordinated roofing and electrical work in addition to the installation of the solar panels and system. The system has been installed and operational for 6 months. Promises and commitments were met. read more

SIMPLY SOLAR ... We had multiple solar companies visit to give their sales pitch before deciding to hire Go Simple Solar. Mark is a great guy who totally believes in the products that he sells. And in keeping with one of the most important issues to us, Mark and Bob firmly believe that you should go with American-made products whenever possible. They knew and informed us of all the available rebates, and worked diligently to get the paperwork filed so that we could get our rebates in a timely manner. Their communication methods were above and beyond ANY contractor that we've used in the past. And that was before, during and after the installation process. They kept us totally informed and were always available to answer any questions, and we asked quite a few. Then when the job was done they still kept in touch to let us know how much power we were saving. They actually seemed as excited as we were when it was finally all turned on. Both these guys are absolute perfectionists and really get into their work. We have open beam cathedral ceilings. On installation day, Bob took the utmost care in measuring multiple times, so that every rack bolt was precisely placed in the roof. If he had been off by even an inch, it could have resulted in serious problems. But with Bob's perfectionistic attitude, they were all attached perfectly. When the inspector came to finalize the work, he even made a comment about the great job they had done and asked for their business cards. We would highly recommend Mark and Bob at Go Simple Solar, and also wish that we it could be possible to give them 10+ stars. They are THAT GOOD! read more

I just signed the contract for a 3.5 kW Solarworld panel system. I'm a retired engineer, wanted to understand how the system was sized, optimized financially to best eliminate the use higher tier, higher cost PGE electric kW's. Got into a lot of details which Mark Becker, owner, patiently addressed. He spent a lot of time with all my questions to get a system selected meeting my requirements, before knowing he would win the work. Of the 7-8 suppliers contacted, GoSimple was in the top two most technically competent to optimize financially and kW production-wise. You may pay a small premium for like equipment, but you'll get great value with these guys. Due to rainy weather the installation was delayed about a month. It was installed before the end of the year and approved by PG&E in January. Since startup it has exceeded the power generation promised by GoSimple, so I am highly satisfied. do, Danville read more

Our system has been up and running for about 2-1/2 months and we just produced our first Mwh milestone, that is 1,000,000 watts of power. We received bids from about 4 solar companies and ended up with GSS. I really liked the fact that they were very thorough making us feel comfortable with every aspect of the process. Both my wife and I liked the fact that Mark and Bob are local to our community and try and support American made brands of panels, inverters and mounting systems. They recently had a follow up informational session for recently installed owners at their offices, so there is a feeling of ongoing commitment. I also like the ongoing free connection to Enlighten which lets you monitor your system for free 24/7 and has all kinds of cool graphs. Solar is a large financial purchase and you want to feel comfortable in your choice, these guys made us feel confident. read more

We love Go Simple Solar! We just went solar as our PG & E bill was through the roof! Everyone was so helpful and answered all our questions with knowledge and patience. We had contacted two other companies but couldn't handle the sales tactics. They were like used car salesmen! When we called Go Simple they gave us the info we asked for and told us to call back with any questions. We looked everything over and liked it and decided to go with them. When we called to tell them they suggested we come to their showroom before making any decisions. No hard sales pitch, no wheeling and dealing! We liked what we saw and went with them. By the time it was finished I felt like they were friends and missed having them out! Aaron was so attentive to our needs during the whole process. He was here on site during the majority of the installation. All the subcontractors where very courteous and tidy. The work was done on schedule and efficiently. I love our solar! Can't say enough good things about this place!! Mark and Bob did a great job with our commercial solar project last year. My wife and I had been on the fence about solar for a long time, but after getting a $700 electric bill for December (yes, she admits to going a bit overboard with lighting) and realizing that we were paying PGE over $0.30 per kWh, we decided to take the solar plunge for our house in Noe Valley. We had just gone through an extensive and utterly painful remodel process in 2012 and could not have had a worse experience with our GC on that job, so it was critical to us to find the right person to manage what we knew could be a relatively involved process of getting solar panels installed and paperwork in order. And we both agreed that since solar would be a 20+ year investment and we would be drilling anchors into our roof that better not leak or come loose in high winds, we wanted to find the best person or company for the job with price as a consideration but quality and trust as the primary factor. I went through the typical process of getting in touch with the big names who dominate the sector, but figured it was worthwhile speaking with some smaller groups as well. My goal was to maximize the number of panels I could get on our roof just to make sure that we were generating as much power as we could once the system was installed--I felt confident that with young daughters quickly growing up we would find a way to use it all. Most groups came by to look quickly at the house, sit down for maybe a few minutes, then proposed something in the 4-5 kW range. Mark from GSS first distinguished himself by taking the time to sit and ask very thoughtful questions, understand what we were looking for, do an extensive on-site measurement, and reply that he could fit 28 panels making up a 7.2kW system on the roof. On a price per kW basis, he was highly competitive with even the largest groups out there. I was curious so started to ask more questions to see if he was legit (I had taken a few engineering classes at Stanford so knew enough to be dangerous when it came to solar). I am happy to say he responded to all my questions on a very timely basis and with a great degree of thoughtfulness and candor. I even pushed on some of the more technical aspects of the planned install and tried to see what protections I had that the proposal would be doable, and come in on time and at budget. I think the clencher for me came when another major solar installer (who had not even taken the time to have their people visit and measure my roof) told me in a somewhat snarky tone there was no way to get 28 panels and a 7.2kW system on our roof...that the most I could hope for was about 22 panels...and to call them back when my installer failed to deliver. If Mark and GSS could deliver on their proposal, they were my team. I will admit I had some degree of trepidation when my wife and I went away for our kids' spring break and were told we would come home one week later to a fully-installed and operational system. The only thing I can say is that Mark and his team updated me as the install unfolded, finished a day early, and could not have done a more professional and high touch job. When the building inspector came for final review and permitting, he even commented on how detailed the plans and specs were and how high quality the install job was. All-in, the job came in ahead of schedule and under budget. Even after the system was up and running, Mark continued to make himself available whenever needed to get us up to speed on the monitoring software and he handled all associated paperwork. I could not imagine a better, more seamless or more professional job--kudos to Mark and his team for building a great company and delivering an amazing customer experience from start to finish! read more

I ultimately decided to go with another vendor for solar only because I needed a company who had specific experience with building codes in my area. To Go Solar's credit, even though there was nothing to be gained, they tried their best to get the information from my city's building department in order to make an accurate quote. In other words, they refused to make any promises they could not keep. That shows how much character they have as a business. Good luck to your company! read more

Mark and his team did a fantastic job. I worked directly with Mark to size our system and discuss options for future expansion. Once the contract was signed they provided a schedule and took care of all the permits and pge approvals. I have written a review of GoSimpleSolar in the past. Why Yelp took it down, I have no idea. So here goes again (and I stand by every word of this review): From beginning to end our experience with GoSimpleSolar was excellent. We had solar installed in our previous residence but when comparing the experiences we feel we moved from the minor leagues to the majors. From beginning to end we encountered a high level of professionalism, exemplary level of attention to detail, and an extraordinary level of communication. We were not rushed.
