Had a positive experience with Max Electric and everything went smoothly. Both the initial inspection (unfortunately didn't get the name of who did it) and the actual work were great. Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand. read more

I had a very simple job - replacing a porch light and hang 2 pendant lights. Max wanted $350-400 per light. I didn't end up using Max electric in the end because my building is super old and my HOA is very fussy with approving contractors for work in my 100 year old building. BUT, that said, I called Max, and he was VERY responsive with coming to my condo in SF within 2 days of my call, and walked me through how a complete re-wire job (new circuit box, new wires to the ceilings and outlets) His bid was in line with the contractor I ended up with, but I went for the other guy because the HOA president strongly encouraged that I use his contractor for my re-wire job. read more

Max electric was quick to respond to the Yelp request and John the manager was able to give me an initial quote based on the photograph I sent him. He also texted me back saying that his technician felt that there was probably more to it than what was seen. When Andrei came on time, he quickly got to work and apologized, even saying it might take half an hour. I was thrilled that it was gonna take so little time. He showed me how badly warned the outlets were and that they needed to be replaced. He brought new products to replace them with and connected the two outlets together so that one GFCI was needed. He also included an exterior outlet cover. He was very thorough and careful. He tested all the circuit breakers to make sure he had the right one. When finished he again tested everything and put everything back in order. I didn't think it would cost quite this much but for the job that was done I think it went very well. I had a great experience with electrician Rigoberto Ochoa. I can't speak for every electrician that works there so YMMV. He replaced my broken outlet and broken porch light quickly and was very communicative, explaining what was wrong and why things needed to be replaced. They were upfront with cost and it felt reasonable enough for what I needed done ($250 for outlet replacement and $300 for outside porch light replacement + the light). Second time using Max Electric for a EV install (Tesla universal connector). Got a scheduled install date about two weeks after contacting Max Electric. Communications were quick and professional. Day of install had two folks come out, and they came on time and finished right on time as well (9:30am - 2pm). They were very detailed oriented and ask specifically where I'd want the charger installed - we ended up choosing the back wall as it was the most convenient, even though it wasn't the easiest place to put the charger. I contacted Max Electric because I needed some help finishing up an overhead service relocation where most of the work on the ground level had already been done and the photos of their conduit work looked much better than that of most residential contractors in California. They responded with an absolutely outrageous lump sum price devoid of meaningful information so I asked for clarification as to what work they were proposing to do for that frankly shocking amount of money. I just got a snarky response telling me that the grounding system was "wrong" and that they'd have to rip it out and redo it all. I asked what specific code violations they were observing and what remediations they were proposing to make in what I hope was an equally snarky tone and they predictably refused to give me a direct answer. I hired a master electrician who's done commercial/industrial work for 24 years to build the mast and weatherhead I was missing for literally 6X less than what Max Electric quoted for the same job. It was 4 hours of work and that included a lunchtime run to the supply house to pick up a rigid elbow they forgot to grab. They made absolutely no changes to this "wrong" grounding system because there were no changes needed according to 2023 NEC and it all passed AHJ inspection without a single issue. We all make mistakes, but my interaction with Max Electric felt more like a con job than a mistake to me. Similar to the "Oh no, your heat exchanger's cracked! Better buy a whole new furnace right now before your entire family dies in their sleep and oh yeah we also have to move it up to the attic and run all new ducts at the same time because that's the code!" scam the HVAC kids like to pull.
