Max Electric was overall great to work with. Quick response to my job request to replace and overhead light over Yelp. They showed up on time, and Hanzel was very professional, conscientious, helpful, and got the job done efficiently. I recommend wholeheartedly and will use them again! read more

Long overdue review for Max Electric: I had the opportunity to work with Max on various projects, including installing outdoor outlets, updating indoor outlets, and adding wiring for my outdoor security system. The team has always been very transparent with what they will do and they execute the project perfectly. I would return to Max Electric once I am ready to update my knob and tube system. read more

Tech showed up and pointed at stuff and tried to scare us into a $20,000 whole house rewiring job. Then offered to rewire a working outlet for $700 (going rate is like $250) but said that he couldn't do it for more than a week. Told us we wouldn't be charged for his time but we got a $400 bill for "diagnostics and troubleshooting." On top of this, communication was a mess. Manager called me at 6pm on a Friday and couldn't get two words together, not sure if he was high or just exhausted but it was a super unprofessional call and left me with more questions than answers. Finally got some clarity in an email, but jeez what a mess. Maybe their work quality is good, but I won't be sticking around to find out. I'll be working with someone who is more up front about their work, better at communicating, and doesn't charge so much. read more

A contractor friend found and suggested Max because of their experience with knob & tube wiring. The overhead kitchen fixture was flickering and the bulbs had just been replaced a month or so before. I was terrified Max would try to get me to replace the entire electrical installation. To the contrary, electrician Lukas checked the fixture to find that the bulbs were not screwed in properly, and the dimmer switch on the bulb was turned down to low. Of course I felt like an idiot, but way better than needing a new electrical installation. Additionally, he discovered that 2 out of 3 supports on the very heavy glass shade were bad, making it very dangerous. He did not put the shade back for that reason. He installed a dimmer on the light switch, which is much more logical and effective. When I tried it out, the connected light above the sink started flickering. Another dumb find: I had put in a non-dimmable bulb. Lukas replaced all the bulbs with the proper replacements so I could have warm white and no flickering. Best case scenario! Lukas was polite, friendly, professional and worked really, really fast. Everything works perfectly now, and the knob & tube gets to stay. Highly recommend this company based on today's experience. read more

Tyler responded promptly to my request for an estimate for knob & tube removal/rewiring of my home. His estimate was quickly forthcoming (which is unusual I quickly found) and detailed. While I did not end up using Max, I really appreciated the time Tyler spent with me at my home and his knowledge and courtesy and respect. He also quickly followed up with revised estimates after my reviews. Next time I need an electrician I will be sure to contact Max Electric. read more

Had a positive experience with Max Electric and everything went smoothly. Both the initial inspection (unfortunately didn't get the name of who did it) and the actual work were great. Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand. read more

TLDR: Electrician Pedro Rivera blew out a fuse box while installing a light fixture. This caused the electricity in a closet, tv room and bedroom to go out. Instead of accepting responsibility and repairing the fuse box, Pedro and a manager both lied and said that the power was already not working in the 3 rooms before the light fixture was installed. I called Max Electric to have the pull chain on a light fixture in my bedroom closet fixed. They recommended replacing the light fixture instead. I agreed. The electrician, Pedro Rivera, then came to my house and installed the new light fixture in my closet. After he installed the light fixture, he asked for the location of the main electrical panel, because the installed light was not working. He flipped the breakers, but the power to the light was still not working. At this point, we also realized that the power had gone out in a downstairs closet, a downstairs TV room, and for the rest of the bedroom where the closet had been located. Pedro quickly realized the problem. My house was built in 1925 and still has knob-and-tube wiring. While installing the light, he had blown a fuse box that was somewhere in the wall lying between the lights and the main electrical panel. To restore power to the bedroom, the downstairs TV room, and the downstairs closet, he had to find the fuse box and replace the fuse. To his credit, he looked for the fuse box for a couple of hours. However, he never found it. In order to give me temporary power, he installed a cable between a working socket and a socket in the tv room that lacked power. I have attached a picture of this. Later, a manager said Pedro should not have done this because it was a fire hazard. Pedro left for the day. Two days later, a manager and a workman came out and also looked for the fuse box. They couldn't find it. But instead of accepting responsibility, they lied and said the power in the downstairs closet, the downstairs train room, and the upstairs bathroom had never been working, and that Pedro had not caused the damage. In their defense, I have an old house with knob and tube wiring. Pedro made a simple mistake in assuming that the light fixture he was installing was directly attached to a main service panel as opposed to a fuse box. He and other people spent hours looking for the fuse box to repair it. But in the end, instead of taking responsibility for their error, they lied and have left my house without power in three rooms. read more

We had a great experience with Max Electric. They replaced the old knob-and-tube wiring throughout our entire house and upgraded the electrical panel. They did an excellent job and were very accommodating with our construction timeline. They took the time to explain the process, and even taught us how to use the new electrical panel. They also went above and beyond to make sure the electrical service was working seamlessly throughout the house. Professional, reliable, and detail-oriented--we're very happy with the work and would highly recommend them! read more

We HIGHLY recommend Max Electric for knob & tube rewiring and general electrical power upgrades in San Francisco. We were dropped from our building insurance and were forced to do the upgrades for new insurance. It was a difficult situation with all kinds of complexities related to a 3-condo (all owner occupied) building built in 1904. Everyone we worked with at Max Electric did their bit to make it a smooth experience. The team was exceptional: Sean (project manager), Jorge and Marino (electricians/technicians), and Tyler (estimator). We selected them from several meetings/quotes with other contractors because: their quote was clear, their price seemed fair and reasonable, they recommended efficiencies and had a project plan/timeline, and a project manager leads the team. They were all highly professional and very pleasant to deal with. It is a very disruptive project - we moved out for 6 weeks - and we realized early on how important it was to have a trusted team doing the work and managing the project. Thanks Max Electric! read more

We recently hired them for a major project at our Alameda home, which included a complete knob and tube rewiring, handling all the complicated permitting, and installing a bunch of new lighting fixtures. We had a very aggressive timeline, and the team stuck to it flawlessly without sacrificing on quality. What really set them apart was their communication. Shon, Felix, Marino, both Alexis, and Max were incredibly patient and super helpful in answering every single question we threw their way. The entire crew did an absolutely amazing job from start to finish. Highly, highly recommend. read more

We hired Max Electric for a full knob-and-tube rewire on our home, along with several other electrical projects, and the experience was excellent from start to finish! The project did take longer than initially expected due to delays outside of their control, but the quality of the work never wavered. From the beginning, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely thorough. They explained what needed to be done, why it mattered, and what to expect at each step, which made a potentially stressful process feel very manageable. Raushan, the project manager, was great to work with and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. He was responsive, organized, and always made sure we were informed and comfortable with the plan. Alex, one of the technicians, worked incredibly hard during the rewire and clearly took pride in his work. Bek, another technician, truly went above and beyond - paying close attention to the details and making sure everything was done perfectly, not just "good enough." Beyond the rewire, they handled multiple additional electrical upgrades and fixes around the house, all done cleanly and correctly. What really stood out was trust. Having a crew in your home for a major electrical project isn't easy, but we always felt confident that they had our best interests in mind. No corner-cutting, no unnecessary upsells, just solid, high-quality work. The crew was respectful, showed up when they said they would, and stayed focused until the job was fully complete. I highly recommend Max Electric and would absolutely hire them again! read more

I've used Max Electric twice now for troubleshooting jobs. The first time I needed to isolate the problem when a switch kept tripping in one of our property's units, and the technician helped me determine the problem was with the unit's range, which was old and needed replacing. Most recently, Hanzel came out to help us investigate a light that was flicking on and off - we thought there might be a wiring issue. He was very helpful, and we were able to determine that the fixture needs to be replaced, while the wiring is fine. Our experience with Max Electric has been that they are straight-up and punctual without trying to upsell us unnecessarily. read more

I'll definitely be calling Max Electric for future jobs. They were prompt, on-time, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Ravi and going with Max Electric. read more

They did a disgusting job with wiring. They grounded things to the gas pipes and left the wires exposed and dared argue that putting conduit around it takes alot of time and is going to cost more money. I was on a mission to find the best Electricians to work on my San Bruno house Knob & Tube Rewire and 100 to 200amp service upgrade. I had 4 companies walk the job and give their thoughts. I ended up choosing Max Electric because: 1. They listened carefully and were really focused on what I was trying to get done. 2. They were responsive and followed through consistently. 3. Their price made sense and was competitive. I had a great experience, and my project manager Sean was available, present, and made sure we knew what was going on through the entire project. I didn't end up using Max electric in the end because my building is super old and my HOA is very fussy with approving contractors for work in my 100 year old building. BUT, that said, I called Max, and he was VERY responsive with coming to my condo in SF within 2 days of my call, and walked me through how a complete re-wire job (new circuit box, new wires to the ceilings and outlets) His bid was in line with the contractor I ended up with, but I went for the other guy because the HOA president strongly encouraged that I use his contractor for my re-wire job. read more

These folks know their way around a bender for sure, but they have zero communication skills and that's why every one of the automated responses to reviews up here sounds like an AI generated summary of whatever the reviewer posted in bullet-point form. If you're an electrically-illiterate Millennial tech bro who wants a new Tesla charger or something then you might be perfectly fine with what Max Electric is charging 20X the typical rate for. If you know the NEC better than they do and are simply too old to be climbing up into attics then they will absolutely infuriate you with their inability to articulate anything or even remember something they said five minutes ago.
