Not a good experience with home generator service. Nov 2023, we arranged for an Annual service - we were charged $1775- kinda extraordinary- but they add all sorts of transit and "restocking" fees onto their times. Even if they spend 2 hours at your home- you will be charged for 4-6 hours of time. Feb 2024 , the generator already stopped working - they charged us $1308.24 - said some fuses or something weren't functioning right- told us there was no way they would have seen them during the annual service. March 2024- Stopped working again... they came out and charged us $1662.17- I forget what they said was wrong this time. Stopped working again, we called them in October 2024- charged us $1283.02- this time they said something else needed routine cleaning. The 3 times we've lost grid power since the initial visit Nov 2023, the generator has failed to turn on.... despite the charges of a bit over $6,026.00. I don't mean to say that I know everything- and maybe its our fault- and the (fairly new) generator just keeps breaking-- but what surprises me is the attitude I get when I ask them if this is normal... they tell us its normal- there isnt anything they can do and its pretty typical for Generac brand generators! Instead of saying "hey, this is really unusual- all these service calls, and a failure to work during power outages over 1 year? , we're gonna come out and really look at the thing and try and figure out what's going on so you have a working generator, because we take pride in our work"... The feedback I've gotten form their service staff is that this isn't unusual, that the frequently visiting techs could not have foreseen any of the subsequent issues and potentially fixed them before they again resulted in a broken generator within a few months.. It cannot be that the expected annual maintenance cost of a single home generator is $6,000!! Anyway- the maintenance light for another annual service has come on again- and after the $6000 investment for one year of non-functioning generator, we will try another company... read more

Sadly our onan rv gen stopped unexpectedly at 900hrs and threw a trouble code. Looked everything over and the troubleshooting guide and online and couldn't find the cause so forced to take it to a authorized service center. Called C&D and explained what was happening and mike was knowledgeable about what was going to be done so scheduled an appointment. I Dropped it off at the designated appointment time and Asked for a quote after diagnosis and no problem. 30 mins later he says it's just a simple brush replacement and parts are in stock! I had expected a failed stator and $2500 bill instead it was 1/10th of that! They had it repaired in no time and charged an hour for install including diagnostics. Amazing! These guys aren not only efficient but they know their stuff and don't overcharge. UPDATE: The VP of CD&P contacted me after reading my review below to find out more from my experience, to apologize for it, and to refund me. It is good to see that management at CD&P wants to make good about their customer satisfaction claim, so I raised my rating from 1 to 3 stars. I made an appointment at CD Power for a 200 hours service of my small class B RV Onan generator. I was told by Mike Bynum that it will take one to two hours so I waited in the office. Three hours later the in-training technician that was doing the work told me that the generator was not starting after changing the oil, that he was getting an error code but could not figure out why. The generator has always started including the day before coming to CDP. A week and $700 later I was told that I could pick up my RV, but when I got home I found out that the generator was not starting! I brought the RV back and after two weeks week Mike informed me that they made some mistakes but that none explained the issue which according to a senior technician was the low oil pressure switch. Mike estimated that it would take another week and $1100 to fix the issue. I talked to two technical specialists at Cummins-Onan and both told me that they have never seen the low oil pressure switch fail in that model of generator. By that time my confidence in CDP was very low, I was tired of having to cancel trips, tired of the lack of communication, and wanted to stop the bleeding of money in fixing an issue that they very likely created so I took my RV back with the unmounted non-working generator. Based on reviews I was expecting great customer service from CDP, I ended up wasting 3 weeks and $700 to lose the usage of the generator. CDP seems to focus on industrial and large customers and made me feel that they do not care for individual/smaller customers. That has been the worse service experience I have ever had. read more

I had an upsetting experience with this company a few years ago and feel a need to get it off my chest: I have a Kohler residential backup generator. It wouldn't start. I spoke with the service manager, Ashley, to get a minimum cost for for someone to come out and diagnose the problem. She said the hourly fee was $150 and then add $75 (approx) for driving to Clayton. So I said, OK, sounds like a minimum for me to expect if it's something simple would be $225. She concurred. Fast forward to billing time: They were unable to diagnose the problem, and she said I owed them $1,200. I can't remember if I laughed at her over the phone. But she told me that there were two trips made to our residence and that driving time cost $150/hr... (she claimed she told me this before, and that the $75 she had mentioned was in addition to this). She gave me the number of billable hours she said the techs (yes, two of them), had been on our property. I went over her numbers. First, the techs had not been present for the hours she claimed showed on their GPS. Second, the driving time hours were so high that I checked the commute times from Martinez to Clayton and well, I guess I was paying for the techs to be stuck in traffic due to an accident or something. I had assumed that for $150/hr they would send an experienced tech familiar with this type of generator. That he would have his tablet ready with the manual and efficiently go through some troubleshooting steps. Not. At one point I went to check in on how things were going. He wasn't there. I waited a few more minutes and them went looking for him. I found him sitting in his truck looking at documents on his computer. He complained that the document was hard to read. He didn't know what to do next. The next day he brought with him a more experienced person. So, Ashley was asking me to give them $1,200 for... "We don't know what's wrong with it." I gave her $600, (still too much in my opinion), and I fixed it myself in about two hours. It needed new brushes - about $20. read more

I take six generators to Burning Man each year to power up various Camps & Villages. Our MQ100 Whisperwatt starter having issues with overheating in the hot sun of the day. It was running a camp that included many tents and yurts, 23 RV's, a large kitchen and close to 15 air conditioners in the "Orgy Dome". I isolated the problem and climbed up on our 40' observation tower in order to make a call to CD & Power. I first became aware of this company a few years back, a buddy of mine is the president of energy use for Safeway and he recommended them because they use this company for their emergency generation of electricity needs. The first couple times I went there to get my generator tuned up in the RV, they were great. The last time I took my generator/RV there when it wouldn't start. This time essentially they did want to deal with it, don't make replacement parts..yada yada yada and sent me on my way, total brush off. Had to go find someone else to sell me and install an Onan 5500 ..fit in the spot nice. I don't know what C&D power was talking about "nothing will fit". I thought they were Onan/Cummings specialist? So if you're not a multi million dollar company they're probably not really wanting to deal with you. I would move on if it's a smaller generator. I gave them two stars because one of the guys at the yard said he would give me a ride back to my place when he saw me trying to get an Uber when I dropped of the RV. read more

I wish I didn't need the services offered by CD&Power but I did. We had a problem recently with our generator in last 2017. CD&Power was there to assist us within one hour of calling. And when it was determined we needed a rental generator, that also arrived within one hour. The staff, whether you were dealing with them in person, or by phone, are always friendly and professional. I called this company to come look at my generator during the power outage. It was leaking oil. They are 29 miles away from me and when he came out he found one loose screw on a hose clamp. He tightened the screw and left. I got the bill today and they charged me $570 to drive 29 miles and tighten a screw. I don't ever post reviews but I don't want anybody else to get shafted the way that I did. read more

We had been using a Diesel Mechanic elsewhere for repairs on our fleet of trucks. We happen to have a few 6.0 f450's which can be very problematic. Our mechanic had been throwing parts at our trucks and never able to resolve the problem, he finally gave up and told us to take it to the dealer. We took it in to Cal Diesel WOW what a difference, within 2 hours I received a phone calling stating that they found the problem and would have it fixed and ready for pick up the next morning. Apparently they have advanced software to find codes vs the other guy. And a very experienced mechanic resulting in a minimal amount of time for the labor and diagnosing. One of our other trucks was experiencing power loss and we had another excellent experience with a one day turn around. This is not just a generator shop. We have found a new diesel mechanic!
