Although we tried to explore Banff and try "non-chain" restaurants, we ultimately ended back at Earl's due to the lack of yumminess from other places. It's safe, good, and we know what to expect. We went for lunch after a hike and the food was super good (or we were super hungry, which could also be the case). We got the mahi mahi taco and a bowl of chowder (there was so much good identifiable things in the chowder - well worth it) and the turkey & brie sandwich and salad w/ pecans, apples, and feta. For dinner, we got the crab linguini (strange that it's in a yellow sauce, but tasty), and the crab & shrimp salad (warm tasty shrimp but couldn't find the crab!) Amazing Candian fare with a view to match! With a re-opening meal this good, I expect this place to hang around for a while. Let's start with food. I ordered the salmon, which had few details about it on the menu making it a little risky. That risk was well worth it. The salmon came out tender and moist, with what I believe is chimmichurri sauce covering it. Best I've had so far this trip! The cous cous that came with it was nigh-addicting (which is strange, given that it had a peanutty flavor and I detest peanuts). I didn't get a chance to try the vegetables that came with it, but I managed to sneak some fig spread and Brie from the two people next to me who had the chicken sandwich. If those amazing foods were on those sandwiches, I doubt they could be bad. Service wise, Grade-A. Our waiter seemed nervous on this opening night, but was always attentive to our desires, and even managed to throw in some humor. Definitely a top place to come to in Banff. read more

Earls came out as highly recommended not only by a travel magazine, but also a localite. For me, a recommendation from a localite carries more weight than one in a magazine. I normally don't like chains, but I had to try this one. The one in Banff has plenty of outdoor and indoor seating area and they have a floor upstairs as well. We got seated immediately and after going back and forth on a few dishes in the menu, we settled for a hot chicken wings and clam chowder. Beware before you order those spicy wings. If you are not used to the heat, this dish will kill you. However if you are used to the spice and enjoy spicy food, then you'll love it. We loved it!!! The clam chowder was delicious. Our choice of drinks were watermelon pina colada (cocktail) and passion fruit non-alcoholic soda. Fab! Wound up a lovely meal with a sticky toffee chocolate pudding. It comes with a generous portion of chocolate pudding drizzled with chocolate sauce and caramel sauce on the top. A scoop of vanilla ice cream is presented inside a crispy thin shell. The chicken was so juicy, and while fried was both crispy and soft at the same time. The spicy ness was good, not too hot, and was heavenly. After traveling all day we were looking for a place to have dinner. We stumbled upon Earls and were able to get a table without a reservation. Our server Ryan, from Australia, was so friendly and we really enjoyed conversation with him. He seemed to have more tables than he could get to quickly because we did have to wait a bit for him to come to our table, but we didn't mind the down time. We ordered a few burgers, a few pizzas, a few Caesar salads and a pasta dish. Overall, everyone really enjoyed the food. Oh we also ordered the Italian Pan Bread appetizer which was delish. We spent $156 Canadian for dinner for five people. Everyone in our group left feeling satisfied by the meal, and everyone really enjoyed our waiter. We were looking for a decent dinner spot downtown, and ended up here. The restaurant doesn't appear to be wheelchair accessible, but it is. They have an elevator, that apparently is hardly ever used because the staff had to talk amongst themselves to determine/learn how to use it. They had to move items out of the way, etc, but they were very friendly and accommodating. We ordered: -Cherry Long Island -Sriracha pinnacle margarita -Cajun smoked salmon -Jerk chicken The drinks were really good, and unique. The food was okay, and the service was awful! I'm not kidding, we got our drinks and then she disappeared for the entire meal. She finally appeared again when we were ready for the check. The salmon was dry but nicely flavored, and I liked the rice and sides. It all paired very well. The jerk chicken wasn't your traditional jerk chicken flavor like I was expecting...so, I was disappointed but it was still good. We liked the quiet atmosphere, and the drinks, but the service has us NOT recommending this place to anyone. I just love this restaurant I must've met even though it's a chain and most of my friends turn up their nose at it but every time I've been there for every single location I love the architecture inside and I love the food and I love the both exterior and interior gardens it's so nice to have real plants refreshing the oxygen in the room even though most people don't appreciate things like that...... Had lunch here with a group of friends & was pretty great. I ordered the Chicken Penne Alfredo which was spot on with the cooking of the pasta & chicken! Sauce was creamy & great! My friend had the Cajun Blackened Chicken and boy did that not disappoint! Chicken cooked to perfection & the seasoning was perfect! Little heat to it but I enjoyed the small portion I had. The potatoes that came with that meal were undercooked but wait staff was very busy so no bother in telling them if all they did was bring drinks, put food down and then give check. Not bad... met by a few friendly hostess and seated immediately. Waitress came over shortly after and we were given water and drink orders taken. Ordered a salad before dinner which was delivered promptly. Tasted good, no problems there. Main course, I had the 1/2 rack ribs with Cajun chicken. An ample amount of food, seasoned nicely, not dry or over sauced. Came with "potato salad". The potato salad was a partially mashed baked potato with bacon and corn pieces mixed in. It was pretty good. And some cole slaw. I enjoyed it all! Wifey had the salmon baked with dill with rice and veggies. She likes it very much, no complaints. Dessert was a peanut butter cookie ish thing with chocolate chips in a very hot skillet. It had peanuts and vanilla ice cream on top...yummy! Downside...the place isn't bad looking with leather chairs and booth type seating. I say booth type because the bench of the booth is actually two chairs pushed together that slide around a little. This restaurant has exceeded all my expectations. We honestly just chose this place because it was opened late, but I'm sure glad we found it. The restaurant is located upstairs with the lounge/bar located downstairs. Pretty much everything we tried was amazing! We had the oven roasted salmon, quinoa and avocado bowl, steak + sushi, and chicken tacos. The sushi was delicious, the roll pretty large, and the flavor on point. The quinoa bowl was healthy but still very flavorful. The Salmon, while the dill sauce was a little salty with everything else from the jasmine rice and the vegetables, it was perfect! also, the whiskey sour was on point and the customer service (our waitress) was very helpful and gave great advice. Strolled in here on our first night in Banff on a Friday around 10pm. It was extremely busy but my friend and I were able to find seats at the bar. Love that they have a happy hour menu from 9pm-close that includes vegan options!! We split the beyond burger ($15 HH price when ordered vegan, $13 for vegetarian..nonsense if you ask me but that's fine). The waitress was great and offered to split the burger and fries on two plates. We also ordered the cauliflower wings ($8 at HH) with vegan ranch. Mannnn you need to try them. The buffalo sauce was dynamite. Not just a hot sauce but actually had depth and flavor to it. Nonvegan friend was obsessed with the cauliflower wings. I would first like to give a shout out to Julie who I believe is the head hostess. If she isn't, she should be. When making reservations we didn't know we would have to climb up some steep stairs. I went up first and explained that my husband would have a difficult time and after first checking to see if we might sit outside and that wasn't going to work, Julie offered to have him use the service elevator! That was a huge help and relief. Great customer service! Next we had our granddaughter with us and they did great to accommodate her with a simple pizza. Only sauce! I had the swordfish taco and my husband the Teriyaki bowl. All were excellent. They were very busy but our waitress was great about checking and letting us know that they were behind in the kitchen. FANTASTIC! Vegetarian friendly!!! We were seated upstairs in the family friendly area. My son has a peanut and tree nut allergy and they were able to accommodate nicely. He enjoyed his spicy tofu taco and most especially the Buffalo cauliflower. We are a vegetarian family. The only thing missing on our plates was meat. My favorite restaurant we ate at in Banff. I am fully aware this is a chain restaurant with locations in Washington which is right next to Oregon which is where I live. But their menus are different at each location so ha! Anyway, it could have been because we were starving and just hiked all day but this meal was HEAVENLY. I ordered the Penne Alfredo with garlic bread and it sounds SOOO basic I know... but the sauce wasn't heavy so I devoured it like a vulture. I would order that meal everyday if I could.
