I'm a solo traveler and hiker. I like to stay in Canmore vs Banff...not just because this place is more affordable in general, but because of the people. You also get a wholesome feel of what local life is about. If this type of experience is what you're looking for, "The Graze" should be your #1 stop. I arrived at Graze before noon so I imagined it would be rather slow. Turns out this place was packed! (Literally every table was taken... woah!) I was greeted at the door by Logan and because it was just me. He asked for my preference first and then sat me at the bar. Loved that! It's one of the first places open early morning in Canmore that serves both drinks and a DAMN good breakfast! So, tbh if you are a group of 2+ and you want a good seat I'd suggest getting here before 10am. I suggest asking for Martha as a server. She's phenomenal. The service all around is 100%. What a wonderful find. There was plenty of seating, the Olympics was playing on the TV and they serve DELECTABLE gluten free food that is celiac safe. I'm the only person in my family who cannot eat gluten & here I could safely taste their food. My husband and I both ordered fish and chips. The fish was crispy & hot and the fries were good too. My kid ordered poutine with brisket. The gravy was also gluten free. Everything was fantastic, great versions of these classic dishes. The service was great from start to finish. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arriving. When I mentioned how excited I was to see gluten free fish & chips, the server was proud to share that they have a dedicated frier for celiacs. Atmosphere is very chill especially if you eat inside since everyone eats outside. Wait staff is also very friendly. The burgers look good - but I can only judge and review based on my food. I had the butter chicken with added naan, as I strongly prefer not to eat burgers or red meat for health reasons. Sorry but I found my butter chicken a bit disappointing. - The chicken was a bit dry. I was choking at one point. - the naan seems to be store bought and microwaved. - the sauce was not bad, though nothing standing out. - they forgot to bring me steamed veggies. That's where our fortune ended We ordered beers to start and one of the three was entirely flat and they seemed very upset to replace it. Our appetizer plates were all dirty. The burgers only came well done, red flag, but one of us decided to roll the dice. Mistake. His burger said it was supposed to have apples on it and they had pickles. Jarring switcheroo when you're not expecting it. Especially when it's loaded in the mint sauce that wasn't listed on the burger. Mint sauce ... Bison ravioli came under cooked, unseasoned, and in the same sauce as the poutine. With toasted general store bread on the side. We went to Graze as our first meal on vacation to Canada. It was very good and definitely set the tone for how good the food is all over Banff area. We had the fish and chips which were amazing. They were very big pieces of cod and were cooked perfectly on chips that were delicious. The ravioli was also really yummy. The sauce was a little on the bitter side but worked well with the squash. Then I had the burger and it was outstanding! I loved every bite that I had of the burger and the poutine on the side was awesome and I was so excited to try it as it is one of Canada's famous dishes. The service was amazing and were so kind and welcoming to us. They helped us get to know the area a little bit better and recommended some other places to eat and have fun. The restaurant was very nice and clean and had a nice homie feel and was definitely taken care of. The restaurant has a big front window that allows light to come in and lets you see the gorgeous mountain surrounding the town. This was recommended to us by our hotel and we decided to walk over and check it out since we didn't really have an agenda! It was overall a good treat and we enjoyed this experience with a good variety! In our party, we ended up getting 3 appetizers and 3 main dishes and we felt like it was enough food to share among us. They have a good selection of drinks as well and the ambience was modern. We did come on a rainy day so it wasn't super busy but it still filled up! I've eaten here twice and both times the food has been really good. It's a neat place on the main strip, often hard to get into but with the summer street patio we got a spot. There must have been some sort of mix up because we were there for over half an hour before our waitress took our drink order and over an hour before meals arrived. Tables that arrived after us we're leaving while our meals arrived. The service was friendly, just seemed oblivious to our wait. My family and I decided to stop in for lunch while visiting Canmore on our road trip. Was seated quickly and the ambiance inside was good. What wasn't good was the service. Our waitress was so miserable and non sociable. Not one smile and was inconvenience every time we requested something. Then when she asked how the meals were, we informed her that the calmari was soggy and cold. That was a mistake as far as her reaction. Food and the menu looks amazing. I don't normally leave bad reviews without having tried the food, but when service can make or break an experience, it broke it today. Asked for a table for 7 and to sit outside since my mom had her lil puppy with her. Instead of wanting to make accommodations the manager came out and said she couldn't fit us anywhere, even after we told the waitress we would sit at separate tables if necessary. Last night in Canmore and chose here for our headed back home dinner. For apps we had the pierogies and the salsa/guacamole plate. Both were ok but lacked a depth of flavor. The burger: The poutine was great. The cheese wasn't evenly distributed if you care about that but otherwise it was tasty and done decently. The elk burger was okay. They cooked it well done and didn't ask how we would like it cooked. The Buddha bowl: Omg this bowl was so bad it made me lose faith in Banff food in general. First of all, there was way too much rice and not enough veggies. The tofu was actually okay for a non-asian restaurant. The veggies felt like frozen veggies that got heated up. One of the first places we dined at once we arrived in Canmore....so it was the place we compared all other restaurants to. We managed to snag a table outside, as it was a gorgeous day, and we didn't want to sit inside. Our waitress, an Aussie lass who had recently moved to the area from BC, was spectacular. She was friendly, efficient, and a joy to talk to. Poor girl was freezing (I think it was around 20C)..so we joked about how she was doomed with winter coming...she just laughed us off and said she understood the importance of "layering" in Canada. Food was out fairly quickly. All 3 of us were ravenous, and the food certainly hit the spot. All 3 of us ordered burgers with fries...quality was good and meat was juicy and flavourful. Again the waitresses here are so delightful to interact with as well as the very pleasant hostess. Very pleasant and helpful. If you ever come to Canmore be sure to dine here. I have never been disappointed. Decided to sit at their outdoor patio out front on the pedestrian only street. I so enjoy no vehicular traffic. Being an avid walker and shared transportation this is my kind of dining atmosphere. The only thing that could enhance the experience is dining under the stars surrounded by a pristine, natural environment. I'll start by saying that the owner was very friendly. We got there at 4 and were told that they were closed from 4-5. He offered us half off if we came back. We decided to take him up on it. The service was very slow. From bringing us menus, to ordering, to getting our food, to refilling our water, to getting our check, to paying everything took a very long time and they weren't super crowded. We got the Tex-Mex burger with elk and the Banh Mi burger with brisket. I didn't really like either. Both were well done, dry, and didn't have much flavor. The fries that came with it were ok. Loved it. Our first time here while in the area a few days. We decided to stop here for dinner. We had: - Truffle Fries - Butter Chicken Bowl - Chicken and Schezwan It was all great. The Truffle Fries were cooked perfectly crispy and were quite tasty. The Butter Chicken Bowl was tasty and large enough as a meal. The chicken seemed as if it had been cooked in a Tandori oven. The veggies were tender and the rice was fluffy. The Chicken and Schezwan were MoMo dumplings served with a spicy sauce. We ordered the sauce on the side. Wow, it's been a hot minute since I left a review for this place. I visited Graze back in September of 2019 while visiting Canmore to do some hiking around the Banff (we stayed at Deadman's Flat, which was about 20 minutes away from Canmore). It was snowing by the time we arrived in town, setting one of the most beautiful evenings I've ever seen. The sun, while late, was still up, albeit waning into the Rockies with hooded clouds. We opted for Graze since we were looking for a place that wasn't going to make us wait forever in the cold. Luckily, since it was just the two of us (boyfriend and I), we were seated within 5-7 minutes of waiting. The interior, I remember was super cozy, we were sat not too far from the window so we were able to watch the snow fall while we perused the menu before us. I ordered a hot tea to warm myself up while we continued to look over the menu when I noticed they had elk on the menu for one of their burger options. I've always been interested in trying to expand my game meat palette (that went beyond duck). I asked the waitress that helped us on what she thought about it and she was really helpful in letting me know that it's quite delicious and a great choice if I wanted to try something new. Awesome, went ahead and got myself an "Old School" elk patty burger ($16), protein style. The food came out hot and fresh, excited, took my first bite of elk burger... And wow, was it tender and juicy! The meat was moist, wasn't too overcooked (ground meat is easily overcooked and easily dry) and had great flavor. It wasn't super gamey, just the slightest taste of pure, unadulterated WILDNESS. Very tasty dish, served under a side of yam fries. I came into this restaurant with high hopes of their delicious burgers and poutine, but unfortunately left feeling disappointed. My boyfriend and I shared an order of the elk burger with poutine upgrade and a Buddha bowl: - Poutine: 4/5 stars. pretty good, the best of everything we ordered. I really like that they had a good amount of gravy drizzled over the poutine and there was a decent amount of cheese curds. - Elk burger: 3/5. Definitely not my favorite burger but it wasn't bad. The server didn't ask us how we wanted the burger and the burger came out like a hockey puck. It was very dry and lacked flavor. - Buddha bowl: 0/5. Do not get this!! It was the most disappointing dish of all. After a long trip to Canmore, my boyfriend and I wanted to eat some veggies/ heavy foods and decided to get a Buddha bowl. From what I've seen of most Buddha bowls, there's usually a lot of veggies and protein relative to the rice in the dish. And the rice is usually some purple grain rice or brown ice. However, there was probably half the dish that was just white rice and the veggies and tofu were just bleh! They only put some veggies and tofu on the top of the bowl, and the entire bottom of the bowl was just rice.
