Great neighborhood pub with the nicest staff and patrons. Also, they have Malört. That's meant to be a warning, kind of.

Was there with some friends and tried to walk out to the patio and accidentally opened the front door. Immediately I turned around realizing I have the wrong door and went out to the patio to meet a friend who had gone out three. A waitress showed up and snatched my full beer out of my hand accusing of having brought it from another bar. She must have looked over just as I was by the front door and thought that I had brought it in. I tried to explain that I had just ordered it from our table that we have been sitting at inside and she proceeded to run off with it. The bouncer overheard me running after her and intercepted me. Eventually he apologized, so good on him. I understand that mistakes can be made but this was all very embarrassing in front of my friends and we had been there for a couple of hours so it should have been pretty obvious that I hadn't been smuggling in beer. We were on our third or fourth round there. I tried to reach out for an apology and financial amends from the bar but have never received any. Occasionally friends still want to go to this place but I have to insist on going somewhere else which is too bad because it seems like a cool spot. First time there, with a group of 6. Had the Dago sandwich with the "works" and a scoop of potato salad. The sandwich was OK; not as flavorful as I'd hoped, and a little tougher than expected. Not at all bad, and it was nicely filling. The potato salad was quite good. What brings my review way down, however, was the service. Obviously, this is not complicated food to make, but it took well over a half hour from the time we placed our orders until the food arrived. The place was not that busy, so we don't know what was going on. For me, Dusty's was worth a try, but I have no need to go back, especially with so many good options in the area. read more

What a gem! I can't believe I've never been here. A buddy and I stopped in on a Friday afternoon. The bar was fairly dead at that time of day. This place is divy with so much history! Giant building, tiny bar. It's easy to miss. I have for the last 32 years, but apparently it's been there forever. The bartender told us it was an old Italian bar for the workers from the brewery across the street. They would enter through a secret tunnel, which may or may not exist anymore. According to the signs on the walls they have all sorts of events including cribbage night. Their menu consists of dagos (some type of Italian sausage meat patty on a bun) and burgers. In addition they also offer vegetarian versions, along with a few soups, and sides. I had my dago California style. The fresh toppings paired well with the seasoned meat. I also tried a bit of the potato salad which was crisp and delicious. I'm not sure of the back story but for some reason there is a giant non-functioning Touch-Tunes machine in the middle of the floor in front of the restrooms. The women's restroom door is also partially covered by a closet. Between these two things I mistook the stinky men's room for a gender neutral facility. Whoops. I took 2 steps into the bar around 1:00pm on Sep. 16 when the bartender looked up from her two lonely customers and told me I had to leave. Before entering Dusty's, I had stopped to visit a Junior Achievement fair in the building next door and purchased a sno-cone from one of the 7-yr-old aspiring entrepreneurs. I understand not wanting outside food and drink to compete with your bar's offerings, but this request was ludicrous to me and was delivered in a rude manner. I even offered to buy a shot of vodka to add to the sno-cone. No dice. It wasn't like we were bringing in a cooler and a crockpot and occupying one of their tables for the entire afternoon. So instead of selling 2 rounds of drinks to my 3 friends and I, the bartender purposely went out of her way to exclude otherwise thirsty patrons. I won't be back, and given Dusty's distain for customers, I probably won't be missed. read more

Dusty's! A classic Nordeast dive, beloved by most locals. So much so that it's overlooked that their signature dish might be derogatory. But the "Dago" is quite enjoyable. Especially as a drinking meal. It's a housemade Italian sausage patty, eaten like a burger. I got "The Works" with mozzarella AND American cheese (no one should have to choose!), fried onions, and sweet peppers. The patty had a great crust/char on it, and wasn't tough or grisly at all. We also got the Polish chili dog which was dece and heartburn-y. The beer cheese soup was pretty bad, though. This place has a lot of character and fun little Easter eggs - like an old phone booth and old fashioned cash register. This is the place to be if you're looking for a low-key Friday night out. I got fed up with the long wait at a nearby restaurant so we decided to try Dusty's out. Pretty busy on a Friday night but we still were able to find a spot at the bar. I had the half and half California with 1/4 lb Dago and 1/4 lb beef patty. The Dago patty basically made of Italian sausage and it surprisingly went really well with the beef patty. As you can see they serve the burger on a paper plate - so simple looking yet so delicious. I'm from Kansas City and found Dusty's at the recommendation of a couple of customers at what was then Stand up Frank's. It was lunchtime on a Saturday. The bar was pretty busy so we sat at at the only open table and the smell of Dago Burgers was mouthwatering. As an ATM was noisily installed nearby we played pull tabs (and lost) while waiting for our food. Which did take a little while since it was so busy. It was well worth the wait. Dago Burgers are INCREDIBLE! We needed to be hungrier so we could have eaten more. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town. read more

A guy walks into a bar and says "I'll take two shots of Jameson and a hot dago." No really, I looked at my watch and it was 11:58 on a Wednesday. I stopped in here because I had an appointment just down the street at 12:30 and needed to kill some time and wanted some lunch. When I walked in, there was literally no one else in the entire joint, just the owner sitting at the bar doing a crossword. I was clearly out of place, as this appeared to be the joint blue collar workers go for a stiff drink before heading home. I figured I'd be adventurous and try the food. I ordered a hot dago, and when it came out, it was the size of the plate! I mean literally, the plate was the smallest plate I'd ever seen, and the sandwich was basically falling over the sides of the plate. I had to carefully position the plate under the sandwich when I was eating it, just to catch any toppings falling out. Overall, the dago was okay, but I think I could have made better at home, and I'm not even Italian! I get that it is a dive bar, and I've seen plenty of great dive bars, but I don't think I could force myself to go back. If the signature dish is something I can easily replicate at home, then there is no reason for me to be back. I think that is the case for Dusty's, atmosphere hits it on the head, but nothing else draws me in. read more

This bar epitomizes Nordeast Minneapolis. It attracts all crowds: the softball team, the hip biking kids, the 2nd and 3rd shift employees, Twins fans, music fans, artists, and everything in between. It's a dive, but it's your dive. You. Your dive bar. That's how you feel. But there's more: -There are plenty of crannies for you and your crew to crawl into despite it's somewhat-cramped size. All tables feel far enough away from the rest of the patrons. Unless you want to meet some new friends. Honestly, it's a great place to meet your neighbors. -The selection is nice. Fulton, Boom Island, great stuff. Although, sometimes you just want a Grain Belt. Oh, you'll get one. Because you're across the street from the old brewery. -The same bartenders are there every night and they are very sweet. They treat you right. -The live music is a nice touch on the weekend evenings. Rock, blues, etc. It's quite good, but some nights you aren't in the mood. Their side patio is perfect for those kind of nights. It's essentially a nice alley, but it's big enough for your group and pleasant for a chilled-out night. -THOSE DAMN DAGOS ARE INCREDIBLE! Be sure to settle into a couple of pints at this place. It's no looker, but I think you might find it to be as cozy as I do. "What the hell is a dago?" This was the burning question that led me to Dusty's last Friday night. Having grown up in NE prior to the arts/lofts/hipster demographic laying claim to the area, Dusty's is a desert oasis with lots of old-school regulars here, with a cozy feel and attentive bartender. The retired horseshoe-haired Teamsters and their wives were straight up 1992. I loved it. While Dusty's potato salad is deliciously fresh, The Works (mozzarella, fried onions, and green peppers) dago was just "ai'ight" -- the bland lump of a sausage patty is keeping it from being a re-order for me. Still, when in NE and in the mood for a few beers and/or a quick bite, this would be my first stop. Definitely trying one of their homemade soups next time! Side note, I'm not sure if the bartender (who also doubled as the cook) was the owner, but he was sure hustling like it. My dining partner and I were checked on a few times even as the bar had about 25 people in it, with only him at the reins. Awesome service. read more

Loved every second of this place, from even before entering the bar and overhearing a group leaving saying "let's get out of here before the hipsters start coming", because yes my Banana Republic coat screams hipster. Honestly, NE is more true hipster than anywhere else in Minneapolis. Despite this comment, Dusty's was very pleasant. This was the perfect pit stop on a brewery crawl with Eric S., Sara W., and a couple other friends on a Friday night. The crowd was small and mellow, it was definitely worth going the few extra blocks instead of being stuck for hours waiting in Anchor Fish & Chips for a spot. We comfortably sat at the bar and ordered the signature Dagos. I had the Dago Egg & Cheese with chips. The homemade sausage was to die for, the perfect amount of seasonings with a little bite of spice. It was the definition of the perfect bar food. My only complaint is that the sandwich was a little dry for my liking. I added ketchup but there was only so much I could put on before taking away from the taste. Also loved that another customer ordered strange vodka, pretty sure it was just for sipping. Dusty's is a little off the main path of the NE bars but it's worth the trip. read more

This is a Nordeast bar if there ever was one. I loved it. There was practically no one in there when we arrived, but we still enjoyed Dusty's inside and out. Their awkwardly placed live band (right in the middle of the room) playing really solid Dolly Parton covers was the highlight of the night! The patio is surprisingly lovely with lights strung up. The bathroom is one of the narrowest I've ever seen. Our group had a fantastic time drinking beer and just chilling for a while. Dusty's is what I love about NE. It is what it is, and if you don't like it, you can go elsewhere. The works Dago is great, and I'm a slut for anything with sausage in it (heh) AND THIS IS A SAMMICH WITH A PATTY ENTIRELY MADE OF IT. *drools* With melty grilled onions and peppers + cheese, I can easily crush 2 of these bad boys without blinking an eye. Yeah, don't judge me until you've tried one. Pleasant surprise to find a pretty awesome 3 piece band jammin out in there, which made for a kind of awkward seating shuffle bc they were smack dab in the middle of the bar seating floor space... There was a group of like 10 of us who showed up, which they handled with ease and grace. Food came swift and delicious, and our pint glasses never had a chance to run dry. Fairly certain that the ladies bathroom is no where near any sort of ADA standards, which is only an issue for me when I'm stuffed to the gills with Nordeast and Dagos. But that awkward bathroom just endears this place to me - if you gotta pee you gotta work for it. This is a great place to come, chillax, and eat some good ol' NE bar fair and drink on the cheap. read more

It's so hard for me to review dive bars because they, as a category, don't necessarily appeal to me. That being said, let's start at a baseline assumption that it's going to be dark, dingy, and cash. Given the assumptions, beyond that the bar was pretty solid. It was pretty quiet, which was a nice change of pace. Service was nice, if nothing superior. I've passed this place most of my life and have seen the sign boasting "hot dagos and liquor" for years. Finally decided to give it a try. The bar is pretty small, and nothing fancy. Once inside, you get the distinct impression that everything that's there has been there for a long time, and that very little has changed. It's a neighborhood joint, so if you're not a regular, you might feel a little out of place. The service is friendly, though, and no one will chase you out. In case you're wondering, a "dago" is a sandwich made of an Italian sausage patty, peppers, cheese and tomato sauce on a roll. I had a cheeseburger, which was satisfying, with a side of potato chips. We went here to see BobKat and what a delightful little hole-in-the-wall bar that you'd find somewhere in rural Wisconsin right here in Minneapolis. If you're looking for a bar that's upscale and modern, this is not your place! But if you want a dark bar you think you'd have to drive 200 miles north to get to, stop on in. Our company recently moved to the area and we're starting to explore our lunch options - In Billboard magazine parlance, Dusty's is moving up the charts with a bullet. We'll definitely be ordering more dagos from Dusty's. I can't speak for the inside of the joint - I sat at my desk and a co-worker grabbed take-out. I have lived close for a while but just ventured in for a drink and dago, not sure what to expect. Got judged HARD when I ordered a plain dago and side of potato salad (disclaimer - I don't like cheese on my burgers). The bartender asked me "Are you serious? Like nothing at all?" when I said plain.... I went with the recommendation to add sweet peppers and mozzarella, and I have to say I was thoroughly impressed!! Great place...reminds me of the small town pub feeling. Clearly a locals bar, but everyone was nice (sometimes you can get the 'look' as a stranger walking in). However while it has that old time feeling, they still upgraded to HDTV's and know enough to use a HD signal instead of 'just digital'. Frendly staff and clean, simple bar menu.
