For a place specializing in bagels, this place doesn't hit the mark. Not very flavorful and a weird texture.

$20 for a cold bagel and a RedBull??! What the actual F. The place is run by college kids that spend more time socializing with each other or doing pointless other tasks at a pace snails could lap, instead of actually helping customers. It was like the entire staff had taken Valium. The line was backed up out of the door, 2 groups ahead of me and 3 behind, and of the 3 employees visible, one guy was slowly wiping down a counter, the other was leisurely changing the coffee filter, all while one girl made bagels solo.... My grandma could have prepped everyone's orders quicker than they did and watching their lack of efficiency was frustrating. I finally order, and made my way to pay and after standing at the register for another 5 minutes, Tweedle Dum finally turned around from just staring at the coffee machine. I ordered a bagel and a RedBull and some how it totaled $20?!? The board said $4.50 for a bagel with plain cream cheese plus $3 for avocado... a rip off to start but very deceptive prices. I was honestly in shock but just paid it because I had been waiting so long I was now late for a meeting I should have had plenty of time to get back to, and needed to get home. I live not even a 5 minute walk away from here and by the time I got home the bagel was ice cold. Thinking it's my own fault for not eating it right away I check and it was not even toasted... they just cut them and spread cream cheese on a cold bagel... gross... the avocado was so mashed up it looked like they scooped it from some guacamole spread. Not worth the $8 it was advertised to be.... let alone what they actually charged. Since we moved to Durango I've done nothing but try to speak highly of local businesses and give them the benefit of the doubt, but as another reviewer wrote the prices they are charging for a basic bagel are offensive. I seriously regret not just going to McDonald's... I would have had a happier morning. read more

I love this place! This is my favorite place for breakfast in downtown Durango. The bagels are always toasted to perfection and the cream cheese is light and fluffy. They have so many different flavors of both bagels and cream cheese. Everyone who works is always kind and friendly. The vibe is like a sweet local coffee shop. 10/10 read more

Extremely chaotic environment. I ordered a breakfast bagel with lettuce and tomato, paid extra for it and they forgot to add it. I waited over 30 mins for the bagel though so I wasn't about to wait another 30 for some veggies. After all of that, the food was bland. Probably the most bland bagel I've had in a long time. Bummy. We went here this morning for bagels. And 3/5 bagels were messed up so naturally we called and nicely asked for then to be remade. Immediately we received attitude from the employees which was very disappointing. We paid for extra stuff on our bagels and nothing was added on so of course we wanted what we paid for and she kept saying you know that is an extra cost... yes we know because we paid extra for them. Then we drove 10 minutes back and still received attitude from the employees during pick up. I tried to be friendly by saying thank you and so forth and got no acknowledgment or apology back from them whatsoever. When we went to eat the bagel on our drive to our appointment the sausage was cold so we didn't even get to eat our breakfast before our appointment.... We have gone here for over 5 years and this was super disappointing. We will not be returning for a long time. The bagels were okay at the end but service was bad so very disappointed. read more

First the GOOD: Employees were great, friendly and small team working hard we called our order as we normally do to beat the line. THE BAD: Prices were incorrect on the website and overpriced. New Yorker said $11 online and then when arrived it was $18 and the Turkey Bacon Avocado was $18 (online noted as $11)...oh and bacon was missing due to them being out of bacon or unable to cook it. Bottom line these locals were not happy and it feels really crappy to not have the website updated to show the 65% increase in price. Shady stuff here and feeling ripped off. Shame on you. read more

I'm so disappointed in Durango Bagel. Like parent level "not mad, but disappointed". I will start with the service. They had the inside closed and were only taking orders from the window. That's fine. It was cold, but it gets cold and there's Covid and I had a jacket and whatever. But, when I showed up, I was 4th in line and it took about 25 minutes for my order to be taken. I stood by the window without being acknowledged for around 7 minutes before someone came out with sticky notes to take orders. They asked the person behind me what they wanted and I had to awkwardly make my presence known to order first. Then, they apologized to the person behind me and said they'd be right back to get their order, but .... could they not write down both orders at once? Weird that they were taking one at a time but doing it in that fashion. I don't really mind if you're busy and moving slowly, but inefficiency kind of irks me and I think shouting out a "hey! we'll be right with you!" can go a really long way. I ordered two bagels with cream cheese. I think I was supposed to specify toasted? But, if you're ordering bagels and they don't come toasted, then I think it would be nice to say "hey do you want that toasted?" because most people do, IMO. That brings me to the disappointed part. The soft, cold bagel was SO GOOD. I can tell it would have been one of the best bagels I've ever had if it had just been warm and toasted. It was so sad. I considered going back to order another to get the full 100% experience fo delicious bagels, but didn't want to stand in the cold for another half hour. So, dress warm and order your bagel toasted and I think you're in great shape. I wish I had had this advice and I might be less broken hearted now. read more

I'm not sure what's worse: that I agreed to pay six dollars for a bagel, or that the kid working actually served it to me. The bagel is literally, actually moldy. It is also either undercooked or older than Durango itself. It was like a hockey puck. I bought it on the way out of town and discovered the nastiness on the road. I called and was told I had to return the bagel for a refund. What??? I understand they just reopened after Covid. I do not understand why they sold this biohazard to me. Just say you don't have the bagel. He had to actually get that bagel out of whatever rancid corner they'd stored it in, cut it, bag it, sell it, and all without questioning? Gross. Be sure to visit this Small simple café for an authentic bagel! It's kind of a hole in the wall, so don't expect ambience. They have a few tables that seem to fill up quickly. The staff was rather unfriendly, but it was still early in the morning and pretty busy. But all of this is worth the bagels! You can tell they are made fresh... the New York way. Excellent bagel. I couldn't find any places in town that had breakfast to go early in the morning. Thanks to Durango Bagel we were able to grab a bite before hitting the road back home. I like the variety of options they have of bagels and breakfast bagel sandwiches. Service was not the fastest because there was only one person working the cashier and making the bagel sandwiches. My other suggestion is to put labels on all the baskets of bagels. I didn't know they had a green chile option being a New Mexican and would have chosen that for my sandwich. After living in Durango for about two years, I finally made it to Durango Bagel and was glad I did. They have lots of variety, in both sandwiches and bagel flavors. Service was friendly and patient and decently fast for being only one person at the time. We ordered the New Yorker on a garlic bagel and one of the breakfast sandwiches on the asiago bagel. Both were really good. If I had a couple of critiques it would be more of the actual sandwich fillings, including the cream cheese. And, it would be nice to have more "smear" options as well (aka flavored cream cheese). We sat outside and enjoyed their large patio, which is also dog friendly. When I have a hankering for a bagel, I'll definitely be back. read more

The prices on the menu are incorrect it states a bagel with flavored cream cheese is 5.47 we were charged 5.99 per bagel with cream cheese and sales tax is 8.9% but some how our total came out to 14.50 when asked why the total was so high he said that they charge more for certain bagels which is not posted anywhere on the menu. So all in all if the menu prices were right we were overcharged 2.50 ish. And the owner was fairly snappy and kinda rude when I questioned the prices used to love this place don't recommend anymore honestly there is better places to get bagels. Friendly and welcoming staff. Bagels were fresh and tasty. I had the Southwest breakfast bagel while my wife had the Sunrise bagel. Both were excellent on a brisk Colorado morning. Great place for coffee and breakfast while waiting for the train to Silverton. read more

We had a great experience! We stopped in early, like 7:30 am, before heading to the train station, which is practically next door. We definitely beat the crowd, as the line quickly went out the door, but she was moving as quickly as possible. They do not skimp on the shmear (cream cheese). My only complaint is that they were out of majority of their bagels, which were listed outside. So if you're standing in line, you figure out what you want, only to go in and see there is 4 options of bagel flavors. Which is a bummer, and can definitely lead to a longer wait time, as people have to constantly figure out what it is that they now want. read more

I just had a very frustrating visit. I work a 24 hour desk position. I don't take lunch breaks because somebody has to always be behind the desk. On the occasion I do get lunch I have to be fast. I pick up the order and I'm back at the desk in 5 minutes. Which I have done before many times as our locations are very close. I call to order my food they say "it will be ready in 10-15 minutes". I wait the full 15 minutes to play it safe. I show up and the sand which had not been made. There were several people waiting for there food. Online there menu says $11.00 for the bagel i had ordered. In person I paid 15.25 plus tip. FOR A BAGEL. The owner walks out on his phone while his ONE worker is GRINDING away to make all these orders. He just stands around watching her work. After 5 minutes he sees that I am visibly irritated and then proceeds to quickly make my order. I have gotten this order 5 different times. I have never gotten a sandwich in this town made with such mediocracy. Here are my biggest questions for this establishment 1. Why the hell is the owner just watching his (probably minimum wage) worker face a rush alone. LIKE LITERALLY JUST WATCHING! 2. Why wouldn't they tell me to wait the accurate 30 minutes it took to make my order instead of the false 15 minutes. 3. Why haven't they fixed there online menu prices to match the current prices. The process of doing so is literally just taking a picture on your phone and then hitting an upload button. To make my reader understand how absurd a 16 dollar bagel is. Here are 5 things you can get in town for the same price as my rushed bagel. - 2nd street deli: The house Italian 12 inch sub (15.99) - The Roost: Blue crab beignets (15.99) -The Himalayan Kitchen: Tikka Masala (15.99) - Steamworks Brewery: Smokey prime rib dip (15.99) - Fired up pizza: 12 inch margarita pizza (16.25) Apologies for the scathing review. I absolutely LOVE Durango Bagel! This is the best bakery I've ever been to. They have the best freshly baked bagels, and my favorite, the coconut latte. Two of the employees were arguing with each other while making our order. The owner/manager never even said anything just swiped our credit card and handed it back. I asked for a cup of water and he went to go fill the pitcher, let it over flow then walked upstairs and never came back. Extremely rude staff and we will NOT go back.
