Went in for breakfast during our honeymoon as my wife ( :-) was getting ready. We live nearby, so I am fairly familiar with coffee/breakfast places in the area. I've never been here, but it was a short walk from the Strater, they serve sandwiches to go, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Was pretty quiet at first, one person ahead of me, two people behind the counter. I ordered a Southwest sandwich and a chai latte. They were out of an ingredient for what I wanted, but they had a ready alternative in mind. Suddenly, after the notorious train whistle, a flood of people came in. All in a hurry because they needed to be back by the train leaving. Chaos ensues. The two employees start working double time, directing traffic, getting orders and manning the register while also making drinks. I was impressed by how quickly they got the orders out, and their calm resolve. It looks like a hard job, and I've worked in the service industry. Sudden large groups of people, small operating space, and people in a hurry for you to do all of it. I'd say it could probably use another employee, but they'd probably get in the way because it's so compact. The sandwich was excellent. Good taste, off you like a toasted bagel sandwich, it's an excrement choice. The chai was good, I don't normally have milk, so it wasn't perfect... for me. Great Breakfast Spot Before the Durango & Silverton Train Ride After reading some of the mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, but fortunately my son and I had a great experience. The bagel shop is conveniently located just a 785 foot walk from the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad depot, making it an ideal stop before boarding the train. We arrived early in the morning, well before boarding time, so there was no crowd and service was quick and friendly. We both ordered the big breakfast bagel along with a beverage. The sandwich came loaded with egg, bacon, sausage, and cheese on our choice of bagel, and it was served promptly. A nice bonus was the 5% discount for paying with cash. Most importantly, the food was delicious. The bagels were fresh and flavorful, and in our opinion, far better than grabbing breakfast from the fast-food on the other side of the tracks. Some reviewers have commented on the prices, but given the location next to one of Durango's biggest tourist attractions, the pricing seemed reasonable to me. Convenience and location certainly add value here. If you're looking for a tasty, satisfying breakfast before enjoying a ride on the historic railroad, I would definitely recommend stopping by this bagel shop. read more

Once we entered the place it smelled amazing! Unfortunately the bagel didn't live up to the smell. For $30 we got 2 bagels which weren't very filling and a little lack luster with the flavor. Mine also was supposed to have avocado and I remembered too late to walk back and ask for it. I'm curious to try the bagels with just shmears because those weren't half bad. Walking around the day before, we thought this looked like a great rest place to grab a bite to go while leaving for the airport the next morning. When we arrived the next morning, there were about 4 or 5 others in the store. Without any real queue, it was difficult to know who had ordered, who was waiting, and where to go next to pay, resulting in a quite chaotic atmosphere. We ordered two whole wheat bagels, one with almond Schmear, and the other with just butter and honey on it. The gal behind the counter was quite confused whether or not they even had honey to put on a bagel when the manager went and grabbed it off of the coffee station. Neither one of the bagels were actually whole wheat, rather just plain white. My wife did like the whole slivered almond smear. Other than that, the entire experience was quite disappointing from the person taking the order to the hefty price for two bagels and taking more than 12 minutes to get the two Bagels. read more

Went fishing, so naturally I showed up right when the bagel shop opened. Place is pitch black, but smells like fresh bagels. Promising start. Turns out the front door is unlocked, but apparently nobody told the employees they were opening today. Just one lonely guy in the back baking bagels while I stood outside with a pack of octogenarian coffee zombies, all of us staring into the darkness like we were waiting for the gates of heaven to open. Suddenly the three-star rating makes a lot more sense. Haven't even tried a bagel yet, and somehow I've already had the full experience. One star. Bagels smelled great. Never met one. Bagels are over priced and typically lack in amount and veggies are generally not very fresh. $15+ BLT comes with 4 pieces of bacon as another example. Most people aren't trained well and typically left alone at the busiest times. As well as the owner is extremely unprofessional and childish ( hence why they are always lacking employees). Definitely wouldn't recommend, 100% still open solely on being a tourist trap! read more

Our bagels were pretty decent--nowhere near the best I have had but nowhere near the worst either. Mine was poppy seed; my partner's was cinnasugar; my sister's was cinnamon raisin. The cinnasugar was in the bland side; the others were better. Service was meh, from a young woman who very clearly is NOT a people person. Excellent breakfast spot! Creative bagel choice and ingredients! Rosemary bagel, the first I've ever encountered, with a green chili cheese smear was spicy and interesting! The barista, despite being very busy cooking and taking orders was gracious and helpful. Mostly indoors, but the outdoor seating is shaded from the morning sun and rain. We went in on a Friday morning for a quick breakfast. No one was at the counter, and it was not too busy at all. The lady promptly took our order. We got one bagel sandwich, with Bacon, Egg, cheese, and plain Smear. We also got a cinnamon sugar bagel with raspberry cream cheese. That's it. How the price came to almost $20 I don't fully understand, and didn't pay enough attention when I was paying because we were in a hurry. The Bagel Sandwich is something I'd advise people to NEVER order. If you like paying 15 bucks for MICROWAVED Egg and horrendous microwaved bacon this sandwich is for you. If you like "cooked," tasty food, I'd avoid at all costs. The fact they charge this absurd price for microwaved food is a joke! The Bagel and Smear was good. In fact I've never had a cinnamon sugar bagel, nor have i heard of anyone with a raspberry smear. I think this place may be serviceable for the traditional bagel and smear, but I'll never get anything with food that should be cooked here again! read more

We found ourselves hungry while on a recent trip to Durango to take the Durango-Silverton train. Before departing, we strolled over to the Durango Bagel and ordered a few items. The Italian Bagel (which is basically an everything) was warm and soft. Topped with scallion cream cheese, this quick bite was refreshing and made my belly happy. My mom enjoyed these little treats that were like fancy fig newtons. I forget the name, but they're in jars on the glass countertop. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their products. There is inside and outdoor seating available. Parking is also available via meters. The inside is quite small, but it is cozy and rustic. I'm glad that we stopped. read more

As someone from arizona who loooves a good bagel and latte this is the spot!!! The staff are so nice and helpful. Its the cutest shop with outside tables and a chill vibe it is the perfect way to start your day. Also, the garlic herb cream cheese IS PHENOMENAL i wanted to buy tubs of it! I love bagels and Durango Bagel makes a damn good bagel. Unfortunately they messed up my seemingly simple order over the weekend (2 sesame bagels plain as is and 1 sesame bagel toasted with green chili cream cheese), but even with plain cream cheese my bagel still tasted delicious. I will say that their service is not the most efficient thing I have encountered, and their staff is not the most friendly. That being said, they have a wide variety of options of both bagels and cream cheese. Prices are a little steep (I mean, what isn't these days), but if you are looking for a high quality bagel, look no further! read more

They're open! Walk up only on this visit which is fine as we were on our way out of town anyway. We ordered a toasted poppy seed breakfast bagel with egg and ham, and a toasted onion bagel with ham, sausage egg and cheese. My bagel had a ton of poppy seeds (which I love) but wasn't toasted enough. Eggs were the consistency of egg beaters, and tasted as such. The meat reminded me of the "budget" brand of lunch meat you get at a discount grocer. The bagel was heavy and dense, not the light fluffy toasted to perfection ones I'm used to eating at home. I shouldn't compare bagels, it's relative I know, but we were hungry, and nothing was open except McDonald's. So I appreciate that we were able to get something to eat. Service was a touch slow, (understandably), but helpful. Only one lady taking orders and preparing food. read more

Picked up a ham & egg for myself and a sausage & egg bagel for my husband for breakfast. Both were delicious & had generous portions of egg, ham & sausage .The only thing I would do different next time is request the schmear sauce on the side. My bagel had a bit too much for my taste.
