This is located near the end of Santana Row next to EMC Bar and El Jardin. I got lunch here with some friends and this is my second visit here. It was fairly empty around mid afternoon and we were attended by great service by our waiter. I started with some appetizers - Sesame Jellyfish salad which was a strange consistency but quite tasty. I just felt weird eating Jellyfish (if it is), but it was refreshing. The Shrimp Toast is very popular and is good, personally didn't see a wow factor to it though. The bread was good and seasoned. We also got Hargao which is also shrimp, decent. The Pan Fried Pork Gyoza wasn't the most flavorful but wasn't bad. My favorite item was the Beijing Noodles which was tasty and just the right flavor. My drink was the Rising Sun, very good cocktail - they have a variety of drinks. They have indoor and outdoor seating, it's nicely decorated inside and the outdoor seating is quite nice as well. Pass on this place if you're looking for good dumplings. We had the pork XLB and the Wagyu XLB. Both XLBs came in tin foil cups. I'm ok with that but once the XLB cools the skin more often than not will stick to the cups. If it wasn't for the thick dumpling skin (another knock on these XLBs) we would have list all the liquid. The pork XLB tasted ok but the Wagyu XLB was overly doused with truffle oil/essence. It overpowered the taste of the Wagyu and anything else. But the green beans were good as well as the scallion noodles. Good place if you want noodles but go somewhere else for dumplings. read more

Dumpling Time is a trendy restaurant with beautiful covered outdoor patio seating. I met a few friends for lunch here, and we had a great time. The service was super friendly and relatively fast. We ordered: SHUMAI: This was great! Flavorful, hot, great texture, and a satisfying bite of fatty juiciness. XLB: This left a lot to be desired. The filling was soupy yes but it lacked the depth of flavor that the XLB at Din Tai Fung have. Maybe it wasn't salty enough? I just felt very underwhelmed and that's why I'm docking a star. For a place called Dumpling House, you'd hope that they'd perfect their dumplings. Sweet Bun: This was a trio of desert buns that came with matcha, beet, and normal flavored buns. The inside of the bun was egg yolk custard, taro, and azuki (different filling for each bun). It was pretty decent, but I wasn't particularly wow'd by it. TOM YUM XLB: I'm a fan of Tom Yum but these XLB tasted a bit too sour for my taste. It had the same average underwhelming texture as the pork XLB. The skin just didn't have that satisfying chewiness that I had hoped for. For the quantity of food you get, the amount of food isn't very much. Everything is overpriced. I was at Santana Row to do some returns/shopping and stopped here on a whim because I wanted to try their food again. I like that there were so many available outdoor seating, the patio area (parklet) is covered and had overhead heat lamps. There is also another row of outdoor seating in the covered alleyway as well, also with heat. The seating in the alleyway is probably a bit warmer, if you prefer to be outside still (or if you bring your dog along). Personally I wanted the parklet seating to be able to people watch. When I got seated, they didn't mention to just use the QR code at the table. But I figured it out just before my waiter came to take my order. The only reason I mentioned this is because the table next to me didn't realize this as well, until I told them not to wait for the menu. I ordered the Beijing Noodles and Garlicky Green beans. I topped the noodles with the chili oil (it isn't super spicy) and it was pretty good. Unfortunately the green beans didn't arrive until I was already done with the noodles. Thought dumpling time was good all around, but nothing out of this world. I may be a bit spoiled because my work's office is near China town in SF, and my dumpling standards are pretty high because of it (lol). I thought the seafood/shrimp dumplings were the best out of what we tried. They were super flavorful and juicy. The xlb dumplings are usually my favorite, but I've definitely had better than at this spot. They weren't bad, just lacked some flavor I've found elsewhere. Cucumber salad was simple and fresh, but also not very flavorful. Service was great. I'll be back to try some more of the menu next time I'm in San Jose. read more

Xiao Long Bao really not a right one, the skin is dry and not much soup from the inside. Each of it contains in the small foil container making it really hard to get the dumplings out, the skin touched to the bottom all the time. Green been is one of the most popular dishes here but still nothing better, it wasn't being cooked evenly, some parts are plain and some are extremely salty. Yikes! Quite possibly the worst soup dumplings we've ever had while dining in at a restaurant. The skin was super thick on the har gow and the XLBs, yet still fell apart when gently picked up with chopsticks. What little soup was in the XLBs quickly leaked into the little tins. Brought to us hot, they still maintained the tin marks and shape when being picked up, a sure sign the skin is way too thick. The Tom Yum, which came highly recommended, didn't taste like Tom Yum one bit. In fact, all of our dishes were pretty much flavorless. The shrimp cakes were the best of the bunch. I ordered hot tea, but was told they were out of tea pots. Ummm what? No line when we arrived at 7pm on a Friday night. 4% living wage tacked onto bill. While Black Friday shopping we stopped by to satisfy our dumplings cravings. We ordered the pork soup dumplings, vegan fried rice, and chicken gyoza. The service was good and we were seated outside under the heat lamps. The seating seemed a bit cramped outdoors and the table next to us was quite close. The vegan fried rice was great and had baby corn, broccolini, and lots of other veggies. It had a lovely flavor and definitely a great pick. The presentation was nice too with thinly shaved beet and green onion. The chicken gyoza was very good and filled with mushrooms and chicken. They were juicy and different with the mushrooms. It was certainly delicious gyoza and the sauce was tasty. Now, we also ordered the pork soup dumplings but lo and behold there was no soup inside! They didn't burst in your mouth with broth and weren't juicy at all. I'm not sure what happened here, but this was disappointing. A restaurant on the strip should surely nail soup dumplings! All three dishes cost us $40 which was pricey. I most likely wouldn't come back again as I could find better in Cupertino for less- and a way better soup dumpling. read more

Beautiful restaurant in a great location with such subpar food. Which is so disappointing because I really wanted to like this place! You order on a QR code and food comes out quickly and well presented. The food is incredibly bland, especially the Beijing noodles (I had to ask for both soy sauce and vinegar to make this more palatable). BBQ pork buns - I don't know what the filling was but it definitely was not chasiu. Somehow even the lamb dumplings were bland, and lamb is one of the most flavorable proteins. We went to this place twice in two days while staying on Santana Row, and had 2 different experiences. The food was phenomenal both times, which is what made us return. I highly suggest the soup dumplings of course. The Saturday crew was much less attentive than Sunday crew. The cleanliness of the condiments was pretty gross and looked as though it hadn't been replaced or cleaned in days. Also, throughout our entire dinner although multiple people stopped by to drop off food, no one picked any of our dirty plates up. This normally wouldn't be an issue for us but it was a tiny table, and we had set out the dirties neatly to be picked up and each person who stopped or walked by ignored them. We also had to ask for silverware, chopsticks and water. This is why I knock 2 stars off. It's cute inside, and has good food. read more

Our specific server was also not very professional, not rude but not very attentive and we had to ask multiple times for water, the check, napkins, condiments, etc. Again, the food is not terrible if you are stranded in the Asian food desert of SR but you will probably leave angry (and still hungry) after paying $100 for mediocre dumplings. If looking for affordable fare I'd go over the K fried chicken joint by Mendocino farms which was nog shabby and way cheaper. also skip Momosan. Great atmosphere, great service and workers, but holy guacamole does the food suck big time. All the entrées we ordered across the board severely lacked any sort of seasoning/flavor, as if the restaurant was purposely taming the flavor profiles down. Dim sum (let alone dumplings) has been a thing in my life for a long time. If this was purely down to eating tasty dim sum/dumplings, I would have rather gone to a traditional Chinese banquet restaurant and would rather deal with their potentially less-than-stellar/brisk service and attitude and at least get food that tasted good than to go somewhere like here where it's marketed quite well and situated in a very nice area only to be let down by their offerings. Shrimp Har Gow: It was suuuper basic, but they also served this green chimichurri sauce with it. I don't think the sauce paired well with the har gow. Pork Siu Mai: Mid at best. XLB: AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! If you consider yourself an XLB aficionado, you know XLBs that come in the foil cups (aka the Cantonese style XLBs) pretty much are the worst ones. This place serves it just like I described and they are incredibly bad with little to no soup nor flavor at all. Tom Yum Goong: Slightly better than the rest, but very tamed/watery tom yum flavor. Gyoza: It'll look nice on your social media, but it's very bland when you actually eat it. Shrimp toast: This was probably the one entrée I could remotely say it was decent and that I liked. It's Chinese donuts with shrimp paste fried again (at least that's just my guess). Not bad, orange sauce that came with it was a good pairing too. Also, most if not all the dumplings ripped very easily from its dough casing. Bill was +$80, and we weren't full from it. Would've rather just went to Tomi sushi buffet or something and ate the har gow/siu mai/XLB there. This place might be good for showing folks new to dumplings a little taste (literally) of this cuisine, or maybe if you want to take your co-workers here to prove to them that you're classy and not trashy/rachet (whatever kind of ghetto attempt at posturing you need to do at this point in your life), but other than that I'm just someone who likes to try it before they knock on it (funny enough I think I've been to their SF location several years ago and only now just remembered) and I have to say the food itself was massively disappointing for the fare I paid. Great for a last minute date night idea if you don't want to wait 2+ hours for Din Tai Fung. Service was quick and attentive. We were seated immediately since there was no one in line ahead of us. The ambiance was lit and cute. I admired they had heated lamps outside for the cozy vibe. You can't go wrong with Pork XLB. Of course, eat it while it's still piping' hot cause no one likes cold dumplings. I was disappointed with their Tom yum dumplings. The Tom yum broth was tasteless. My recommendation is to skip this and get an extra order of the pork XLB. The jellyfish salad was odd. Not it hadn't stung my mouth, but had a mix of strange flavours: spicy, bitter, and salty. This place is fire! By far and easily the best spot for small Asian fusion type tapa style eats and soup dumplings in the South Bay. Yes, even better than DTF in my opinion.
