If you're looking for a fast and convenient dumpling spot dumpling kitchen express is your go to. It's located inside the Castro valley market place and there are a few tables to sit inside or outdoor seating. Service was ok. Just someone there like at a Panda Express gathering what you want. They have a variety of food at this counter- dumplings, frozen dumplings, and Chinese food. Today we opted for the dumplings and ordered the pork and shrimp shumai, bbq pork buns and the noodles in black bean sauce. The shumai and noodles were good! The black bean sauce and cucumber was like the perfect combo that balanced each other out. The noodles were a decent texture. The shumai was "meaty" and can't go wrong with the flavor. The pork buns were probably my least favorite. The bread was good, but the filling may have been a little too bland for my taste.

Found this place thru the TooGoodToGo app, where you get smoking deals if you're able to reserve for pick up at the end of the day. The Mongolian Beef was very good with a perfect amount of spices. The veggies chow mein was good. The chicken broccoli with chow mein was good as well. I also picked up some beef stew noodles soup was good and authentic. The beef was very tender.

Dumpling Kitchen Express opened in Castro Valley Marketplace where Savoy? of C.V. Natural Grocery was. D. K. supplies this outlet with it's commissary in Foster City. Food is ready made on display, scoop ready to go. No decor. Just an island to dispense food... Offerings: food combos, add ons, appetizers, entrees, soups, noodles, speciality dumpling, dim sum, frozen dumplings to go. Eats: "Double Joy" 2 entrees with base (10.70) -chow mien out 1/2 hour after opening -fried rice dry, cold, bland. tasted like leftovers -braised eggplant tender, had chili oil, jalapeno slices. slightly spicy -string beans crunchy, tasty Xiao lung bao( 2/3.) -texture too doughy, slight juiciness. The usual taste. 3.5 stars food quality not consistent, disorderly setup: -line forms at register at left side, unlabeled food at right side. 2 lines form-1 at register, 1 in front of food. -food prepped in kitchen out of sight, either warmed up or cooked by amigo. -self serve utensils located near register. *8% discount during soft opening..

Surprisingly good! Noodles in black bean sauce 9/10 - sweet and earthy - NOT ENOUGH SAUCE but has a lot of noodles *has meat* Noodles in peanut sauce 10/10 - spicy and savory & add their vinegar and chili oil for more flavor - NOT ENOIGH MEAT SAUCE but comes with a lot of noodles *has meat* 2 Entree 1 Carb - love their fried noodle texture - the lemon chicken is not lemony but is very sweet - broccoli beef is pretty good and savory - portions are ok for the price Overall, service is great. The server was very patient and explained what each item was. The food was pretty good but the noodles are definitely lacking in sauce and I hope they will add more next time. Definitely get their black vinegar and chili oil to ass to your dishes. If you're here for the fast food Panda Express style food, it's not too bad but I wouldn't come here just for that.

Located conveniently in Castro Valley MarketPlace. I only tried their Shumai and that was 4/5 . The hot sauce is what did it for us ! I came on a Friday afternoon and it was empty . Can't wait to come back and try their other specials !

On August 19, 2025 I went to the Dumpling Kitchen Express Castro Valley website. It said it was open from 11am - 5 pm. I placed my order, used my Visa, received confirmation. See photos. When I got to the store it was completely closed! It appears to be out of business! Working on obtaining a reimbursement to my credit card card now.

My husband and I unintentionally saw Dumpling Kitchen Express while shopping in the Castro Valley Marketplace and was pleasantly surprised to see it there! They're still in soft opening mode when we came on 12/10. We got there about 15 mins before closing so we'll need to stop by again when it's grand opening! Since we got there super late, they didn't have everything on the menu left and I'm sure the food was sitting for a bit in the display case. Note that this is an express location so it's not a sit down restaurant - it's like dim sum to go! We tried some baos which were tasty. We liked the shumai the best out of everything we tried! We also ordered the pork soup dumplings but there was no soup inside (probably because we came end of the day so it was sitting for a bit). Everyone was super nice and very helpful as we were ordering! I was excited to see the frozen dumpling section too! Looking forward to trying those next time! I will update my review once I try them again during grand opening time!

4 orders thru Too Good To Go app. Very generous portions. - Spicy chicken was still a bit crunchy when cold. Very flavorful (not just salt & pepper) with a kick. Spicy but not overwhelming. - String beans were wonderful. Well seasoned but not salty. It had more flavor than other Chinese restaurants I've gone to. Cooked thru & still has a crunch. - Egg fried rice was still moist & carrots & peas were not over cooked. - Custard is the bomb. Creamy & not eggy nor gelatinous consistency. The best part is the crust. It's not a standard pie crust. It had a phyllo dough texture that had a light crunch to it. Perfectly sweetened. - Chow mein was moist with veggies still had a crunch. Flavor is above average. - Bbq & ground pork buns were very tasty with the dough very moist & fluffy @ the same time - Corn & chicken soup was very hearty & thick. I will be going back to try their other items. I shared (always do) all these wonderful food with my 3 bros & 1 sis. They said they in turn will be trying other items w/ their families

The employee behind the counter was helping a customer . The employee looked at me & continue to help the customer. I stood there for 5-6 minutes without the employee saying anything to me. She had rang up the customer . The employee told the customer where the utensils and condiments were located. After waiting there , I had asked for an item. I stood there for another 5 minutes while getting the item. The employee rang up the items. The employee did not tell me where the utensils & the condiments were located like the previous customer. Nor, apologize for the wait. Also , As I was being rang up, the previous customer started talking to the employee while I was asking the employee a question. The employee continued to talk to the previous customer. As I was not there! I would of wished the employee would apologize for the rude previous customer for interrupting or say something along the lines how I was rudely interrupted. At the time, I was there I had the Har gow , BBQ bun & shumai. Har gow was tasty and the bbq bun bread was soft but the rest lacked flavor . The price I believe is pricy . 2 pieces for $3.95 Their customer service needs a lot of improvement and honesty I felt I was not treated the same as the previous customer.

The staff told her we wouldn't be seated unless our entire party was present. About 4 people were late, but they still seated us. The restaurant kind of felt old and somewhat dirty. But hey, it was my dad's birthday. I wasn't paying for lunch. We occupied three tables and ordered from both the lunch and dim sum menus. I enjoyed dishes like shiu mai, pork buns, walnut shrimp, fried rice, fish, and fried noodles. The sesame balls were tasty, but the service was slow, and I had to follow up on our order. I didn't care for the bun with the hot dog or the other noodle dish. Later that day, my daughter mentioned she had found hair in a pork bun and that her cousin had eaten it. She also said every item he picked up had hair on it, which was disappointing. I didn't confirm this with my cousin, but it would have been helpful to have someone inform the staff. Fortunately, no one at our table found hair in their food, which was a relief. Overall, the food that I ate was fine, but I wouldn't make a special trip from San Jose to visit again...unless it's a fambam family treat.

They have a couple benches, just for people waiting for their order, and a couple small tables people were eating their soup on. Otherwise, don't plan on eating in. They seem to have a pretty decent sized dim sum menu, as well as drink menu but I unfortunately can speak for 2 items only. I tried the super steamed bun and mochi with sesame, which took about 15ish minutes to make. They did give me the heads up about the wait, so I appreciate that. The total for both was a little over $10. They're pretty busy with people coming in and out constantly to pick up/place their orders. They keep the prepared orders inside thermal bags so they're kept warm, which is a nice touch. The super steamed bun was huge, the size of my face damn near. But unfortunately the ratio of filling to bun was waaaaay off. I have to say the bun itself was good and the filling was delicious, but the ratio threw me off. I had to peel off all the excess breading. But if you like those type of steamed buns, this is def a good $5 snack. The mochi was fresh, rolled in peanuts and sugar with a black sesame type filling. It was a bit too sweet for me. I feel like if it was just rolled in peanuts alone, the sweetness from the filling would have been enough for the mochi. I loved the texture of the mochi, soft with a light chew. They take card which is handy. Prices seem about average compared to all other dim sum places. Not low, but not too high. The food is fresh, and you can see them hustling in the back to get the orders out. They're in a plaza which gets pretty busy between the supermarket and restaurants but you should be able to find some parking in the lot. If your order takes some time, you can always pop into the supermarket for produce. They have a great selection there.

Went there today and was again blown away by how good this place is. This place really takes pride in serving top quality Cantonese cuisine with reasonable prices. We got there at 10:15 on a Sunday and was seated right away. Ordered the usual dim sum fairs from the cart -- hargao (shrimp dumplings), siumai, bbq pork buns, braised tofu skin rolls (my fav!), braised chicken feet, rice roll with bbq pork, beef balls, lotus chicken wraps, and turnip cake. Each dish tasted better than the other!! My husband has gout but he's able to find plenty to eat without seafood. We ended the meal with mango pudding and it was the perfect finish to our glorious meal, sweet and slightly salty, with a fun note. My only complaint is when the bill came it showed an 18% service charge, so we thought that that's gratuity and didn't give much more. Later my husband saw a posted notice on the door that the service charge is for workers benefit and not tip, so we should have given more tip on top of that, but it was too late by the time I found out (husband didn't tell me until after we got home). After trying all the other dim sum places in the area, I still think this is my favorite. We will be back.

I don't understand why customers should be responsible for covering the restaurant's internal expenses on top of already expensive menu prices. The explanation for this service fee is only in English displayed at the bottom of their menu, even though most customers are Chinese. Many people would never know what they're being charged for. It feels inconsiderate and misleading. Overall, the experience was disappointing and not worth the money.

Susie lives in the Bay Area and chose this restaurant. I was skeptical about keeping the cost low as we were having dim sum. I was afraid it would be outrageously expensive and not filling enough. She proved me wrong. Excluding the tea and other drinks it came to $30 per person and that included tax and tip. This was cheaper then the last banquet we had and I actually enjoyed most of the dishes here. The only dish I didn't have was the scallop and shrimp dumplings as the order came out with only 3 and there was 11 us at the table. I'm not sure how that was supposed to feed the table. We arrived at 11:10am and to ensure we weren't late. The parking lot was packed when we arrived. Saying that we only had to go up and down two isles to find a parking space. I have to add that the parking spaces were tight. We had the Honda Pilot and it barely fit in a space and that isn't the biggest car out there. We were told that our table was on the 2nd floor and to go to the side door. We walked around the side and found a door. There was not signage indicating it was part of the restaurant. The right side was locked, but the left side was unlocked. When we entered we were warmed with a sigh that said the floor was wet and to beware of slipping. They had a staircase to the left and a elevator to the right. That was a blessing, I know some of our party wouldn't have made it to the banquet with out the elevator. When we exited the elevator we were met by a staff member with their cart waiting to do downstairs. So the elevator serves guests and staff alike. When we got out of the elevator the staff member pointed us down the hall. We stopped at the bathroom on the way down the hall. Once we found the restaurant we were pointed to the back where we joined our party. We had 3 tables in the back which was nice. It beats being out in the open and disturbing everyone as we stood around chit chatted prior to being served. I felt bad for the table of 2 that were posted right next to the wall near our party. They just had a bad table. All the other tables upstairs were farther away and didn't feel like they were in our space. I have to add that the service was great. They kept coming to refill the waters and tea pot with tea, not just hot water. And we never felt rushed. We had a nice table on the edge of our tables agains the wall that we were able to hang our family tree. We are all 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins and some of us have never met the others before so we really needed a family tree that color coded what generation you were. My favorite dish was the steamed sticky rice in Lotus root, next was the BBQ Pork Buns, third was the shrimp and pork dumplings. Though I don't recall seeing any shrimp in those dumplings.Thought they were big and meaty. My least favorite was the green onion pancake. It just wasn't fluffy and flakey. It was too dense and lacked flavor. And a little greasy. We had 12 dishes and were filled with some chow fun left over. The chow fun wasn't that great. It was filled with beef which was good, but it lacked sauce and the noodles weren't all that.

The restaurant is really big and we sat at a table for 14 pretty comfortably. We were also here on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full. The service is your typical Chinese restaurant vibe where you leave a little bit emotionally abused after paying for overly priced menu items. We did the à la cart and easily spent up to $1500. Better off with the family plan meal but nothing was of interest to us except one or two dishes. It took forever to come out and I mean FOREVER to a point where we almost cancelled a few dishes and called it a night, but they kept saying it's being made. With as many people and as massive as the restaurant was, and the price tags, I was expecting a more efficient service. A couple of times we saw our dish being brought to the wrong table and the people going "oh we didn't order this." With all of that out of the way, I am giving them an average score of 3 starts because the food did bring them back up. It was actually really good. My favorite of all things we ordered was their sea bass with string beans. The sea bass was fried crispy, garnished salty and still soft inside. It paired really well with the string beans. We ordered a bunch of other things that I couldn't tell you what the name was in English and they were above average taste wise. Their complimentary dessert however, was mass produced and tasted like they added too much water to it. This was the only one I was disappointed in. I still say this place is extremely overpriced but for a family meal experience and if you ever want to impress a date, why not.

To be honest, Fusion used to be terrible, and I used to absolutely hate coming here. Food was slow in coming, what came out was often cold, the dining room was loud, and service was impersonal, at best. On one visit, half the menu was unavailable, requested silverware was crooked, and numerous glasses, bowls, and plates were chipped or damaged. On another visit, I saw multiple families sneak out of the restaurant, walk to McDonald's across the plaza, and smuggle food back in to tide them over until their orders came. After a while, I wasn't alone in meeting the decree of, "come to Fusion on Saturday," with a groan. However, when HL Peninsula opened in Castro Valley and established itself as a threat to Fusion's business, it served as a wake-up call. Food immediately got better (from "below-average" to "know what to order and you'll be fine"), the speed of service improved, and food temperature became consistent and proper. It's not QUITE a "different restaurant" feel, and there are still some negatives. It's still loud and service could still be better (there have been times where chicken wings have taken over an hour to come out, which is a "should not occur"). However, at least I don't dread coming here anymore.
