The servers are polite and familiar with all menu items. I showed one of the ladies a picture from Yelp and she was able to name the item. I did place an order and I think she forgot but it was ok because I was already full from the dumpling sampler. I have been looking for vegetarian soup dumplings all over NJ and i'm so glad I got to finally try them! The soup itself was an acquired taste and definitely needed to be doctored up with the sauce/chili oils. I walked outside in the cold for an hour and this was the first place I stumbled upon. It was like coming home. The nice server was like a mom asking if you would like hot tea. Came to the dumpling den after a few years of not going and I have been missing out! First you'll see there is plenty of seating and a menu with a marker is given to you , which i thought was unique. The order was swiftly taken and food also took just the right amount of time to be delivered so zero complaints. Surprisingly good- I didn't have a strong impression when I dined there near their opening few years ago, but decided to Uber lunch from there recently thinking they must be doing something right to still be around in the competitive fort Lee dining scene and because they were offering BOGO on a few selection of dumplings- so I got 2 beef dumplings for $7. 1. Beef dumplings (3/5, $7, App) - the skin was chewy and the right thickness. The filling could've been better in qty and taste but it wasn't bad. Good value. 2. Shredded beef & pepper noodle soup (4/5, $15, Main) - The soup had nice homey taste and surprisingly generous with amount of toppings. Beef tastes great, chewy without being tough, and pepper has good bite. Only knock was that noodle quantity was slightly lacking. Dumpling den redeemed itself and I'll be ordering delivery again from them. My wife found Dumpling Den on IG and thought we should go since we're always in the area and always looking for a good place for authentic Chinese cuisine. Dumpling Den is a small little restaurant in my home town. There have been many changes in ownership of this store front, but this is by far the best for this location. The town is flooded with Korean restaurants and it's nice to see a little diversity in food selection. The restaurant is narrow with several tables. I visited with my in-laws and their kids on a cold winter day. They seated us in a closed section where we were able to have 2 tables joined together (even though it wasn't needed). We were able to sit the kids at one table and the grownups in another just like how it was in my old days. The staff was very friendly and spoke both Chinese and English so there is no language barrier. We ordered a couple of dishes, but the one that stood out the most was their rice noodle with peanut and Hoisin sauce. This is a staple in the Hong Kong region and being able to get this in America is very hard unless you're in an area that is mainly Cantonese speaking. I look forward to visiting Dumpling Den again. read more

This is one of my go-to spots for comfort Chinese food. I always order from DoorDash and the food is always consistent and delicious! The dan dan noodles are my favorite - it's a dry spicy noodle but it really has a kick to it. Plus it's topped off with fresh peanuts, garlic, and scallions! When the dish is mixed together, the flavors dance in your mouth. Another go-to is the Spicy Wonton in chili oil - when I tell you this dish is SO packed with flavor, I can eat just these wontons with white rice and be totally happy. The wonton skin is super thin and the oil is spicy and tasty. The wonton consists of pork and shrimp - highly recommend! Lastly, if you're a fan of pork buns, you can't go wrong with ordering a a dish from here. When you bite into the bun, you immediately smell the fragrant juices of the pork! Other than my favorites, there are a few honorable menu dishes. The chicken skewers were pretty basic but a good grilled chicken dish. Soup dumplings were also very good and worth trying! The Kung Pao chicken was not my favorite since I wish it had more sauce. TIP: When you order from the apps, Dumpling Den usually has a buy one get one free special. This was a nice and casual spot to go to with a super friendly staff of workers. The menu has all the usual favorites so we decided to try the classic pork soup dumplings, house special dumplings, congee, pan fried noodles and scallion pancakes. The dumplings were great. The house special dumplings were some of the best I've tried with the the right amount of "juice" (not soup) inside of them to give them that extra flavor. The scallion pancakes were plentiful and good to munch on throughout the night and we had some extra to take home. The congee and pan fried noodles were a little less flavorful than what we're used to but that also meant that we weren't dying of thirst due to excess oil and MSG like at other places. The ambiance is nice and casual and the food is served in plastic to-go containers so I guess it was convenient for us to just ask for lids for the food we weren't able to finish. The 1/2 crispy duck came with a side order of rice but was not very crispy and was actually really oily. The soup dumplings were just okay. The pork filling was good, but the skin was really thick, which is the opposite of quality soup dumplings. I had highest expectation for the hot and sour soup since I saw other reviews rave about it. However, I found it to be disappointing: the small size was not worth the price of $6 and taste wasn't anything exceptional. Just average. Friendly staff, but even better food. It seems that when you move to NJ, you realize you miss a lot of things that you had access to in NYC and one of them we missed when we moved was soup dumplings! It's tough to find soup dumpling/Shanghainese restaurants in NJ, unless you're in predominantly Asian neighborhoods so thank goodness for Dumpling Den! Unfortunately, Dumpling Den is located on Main St. in Fort Lee, so parking is a luxury in the area. However, if you come at the right time (a little bit earlier than prime times), then you might luck out. We dropped in on a Friday evening at around 5:30pm and, shockingly, the restaurant was relatively quiet throughout our meal. Although they seemed to have decent takeout business, dine in was pretty quiet. The menu is pretty typical of most Shanghainese-style restaurants and contains a vast array of favorites like fried buns, fried rice dishes, rice cakes, noodle soups...and, of course, soup dumplings. We ended up ordering some pretty common dishes that you would find at most Shanghainese/Cantonese restaurants and let's just say they really filled our craving. We put in an order for Crab and Pork Soup Dumplings, Pork Soup Dumplings, Gluten Kao Fu, a Beef Pan Fried Noodle and a Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. Everything was RIGHT ON POINT. The soup dumplings were delicious. The soup in the dumplings cooled a bit when we dug in, but it was still really good. The Kao Fu is a staple for us whenever we go to Shanghainese restaurants and that was solid. As for the Braised Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, myyy goodness, the beef brisket was so tender and tasty. I've been to many, many, many, many Cantonese and Shanghainese restaurants in my day and this was some of the best beef brisket we ever had in a noodle soup, bar none. As for the Beef Pan Fried Noodle, I'm a big-time pan fried noodle snob, so I'm super critical of this dish when it's not made right, meaning the noodles are not super crispy and the sauce isn't thick and flavorful. Dumpling Den passed the test with flying colors and more! I cannot believe I'm about to state this, but it's one of the best....yes, best, pan fried noodles I ever had! The noodles were fried to crispy perfection and the sauce was piping hot and smoking like a chimney. The sauce was so hot that even after 15 minutes it felt like it just came off the wok still. There was also ample beef, bok choy and broccoli in there too. Dumpling Den definitely deserves more applause for how good their food is. Don't let the empty seats fool you when passing by because this Fort Lee establishment is a real winner and if you want a really, really, really good meal that won't cost an arm and a leg, drop in. I am thinking their shanghainese menu items are decent, eg, we had the pork/crab soup dumplings and they were good. however, got the general tso's bowl and boy, this isn't general tso's. completely lacking any sweet, sticky sauce of any kind and just more like crispy, red-food colored, and sourish chicken (think sweet and sour, but just more sour). don't know if it was an oversight, but even a corner chinese take out place can make a decent general tso's. disappointed read more

It feels they have changed the look of the store and the menu little bit. Food wise, I didn't find any of their dishes beyond okay. The scallion pancake is deep fried, so its hard. The dumplings are dry and don't come with any dipping sauce. The Yangzhou fried rice was also on dry side. The garlic sauce eggplant came with chunky pieces, it would have nicer if they were smaller softer, that would have mixed well with the sauce.
