Dukes bakery It's been a hot minute since I've had Chinese bakery bread. So let's see if they're pretty good eh or ew. It's fun here cuz you can get a little shopping cart and collect your breads. Kinda went crazy and got a bunch to try. The breads looked like they would be dry but weren't and were all really soft, pillowy, and fluffy. The Black Forest bread was topped with toasted almonds, had jiggly thick sweet custard, and a layer of semi sweet chocolate. The hades bread was the only kinda dry bread and was filled with bittersweet chocolate and had a thin sweet Oreo crust on the bottom like a cheesecake would. The pork floss bread had a swirl of sweet savory pork floss and was topped with nutty crunchy sesame seeds. The banana cream bread was filled with like this cheesecake tasting light cream and had some real bananas inside too. The garlic bread was really good, soft, and had a streak of yummy, savory, garlicy, cheesy goodness. They even had a cilantro pork floss cake?! Wasn't getting any cilantro flaves but the cake was nicely spongy, light, vanillay, and had a swirl of pork floss that actually worked with it. Their black sesame cake was also very spongy, jiggly, light, and airy with good black sesame flaves. They even let you try some free samples of bread which my grandma really enjoyed. Been a fan of Duke bakery when they opened around 2015. Would always go for the chocolate buns and the chocolate chip bread that looks like a horseshoe. Coming back in 2026, the quality still the same but it feels like the store aren't gone down. They're now a split business with a noodle shop. The Duke cashier is to the left. I got it too good to go order and that was worth it but other than the chocolate buns, none of the other menu items stand up to be a returning classic . 3/16/26 Had to try Dukes after having breakfast at Moffett's. Great selection of pastries, service could use a little finesse, clean, modern ambiance. The pastry case was delightful n organized. I took photos of the ones I bought. Apparently, the lady at the counter has very limited English skills, friendly enough but could really use some upgrade in her customer service skills. I value customer service a great deal--that's how I become a regular patron. Thankfully there are other Duke Bakery locations to visit if the pastries happen to strike my fancy. There are about 3 sets of seating (tables with chairs & cushioned booth type to enjoy your treats. No outdoor seating available. Parking is shared among other businesses, so it can get hairy at peak times In this shop, there 3 different vendors, not just Duke's, there's a noodle shop to the right (if facing the counter) a smoothie shop in the middle & Duke's on the left. I went to the store at Arcadia and I didn't think much of the bill, till I got home. The salesperson did not understand when I was looking for the English loaf of bread and was in a hurry to close up at 7:40 pm and wrongly charged/mislabeled me on my items. The $9.99 was supposed to be $6.50 and the $6 should have been $4.50 as per labeled prices on shelf. I just got overcharged $4.99. Furthermore, the receipt shows Rowland Heights instead of Arcadia. 3/16/26 Duke Bakery Arcadia, CA... Made a quick trip in here and got an Ube Custard Pastry and a Coffee Cake Roll. It turns out there are 3 mini restaurants in one in this building. Duke Bakery specializes in Pastries. Both pastries were really good. I purchased a Yogurt drink from Yokie Yogurt Arcadia to compliment the Duke Pastries. Will try the 3rd place Mama Noodle Liang Pi House on a future visit. Great Pastries!!! Service was a little tough here as the lady at the counter said she doesn't speak English. Tried to speak with the guy at the Mama Noodles, but he wasn't helpful either. The place was clean. No restroom. When it comes to Asian bakeries, Dukes is definitely one of my favorites. Yes, the prices are a bit higher, but many of the breads are larger in size and I feel like they use healthier ingredients, which makes it worth it. I always end up picking some up to bring to family or friends when I'm visiting it's kind of become my go-to. One thing I really appreciate is that they usually have samples out for most of the breads, which helps if you're not sure what to get. That's a big plus in my book! read more

Suprisingly i Went in for bread and left with dinner. I had no idea they served amazing food here. I had a sample of the mama noodles which are made in house, (from a kiosk that was serving small noodle samples for patrons),topped with some beef slices. I haven't been to Duke's bakery in a minute. So when my aunt had to go to UPS next-door, I jumped at the chance to go in. I love that they have samples of their bread for you to try before you buy after trying a few, I went with their French Sausage Bread since my BF loved hotdog bread and Yam Angel Bread (taro) for myself. I also wanted to try their Ube custard bread. What I love about Dukes is that they use high-quality ingredients, their breads are not too sweet, and it's very light. That's probably why their prices are a little bit higher than most bakeries. read more

Bread is best when fresh and not as good the next day for consumption. This might be because of its freshness, though I'm not sure since I don't make bread myself. It's definitely best enjoyed on the day it's made. Avoid buying extra breads to store, as it won't taste as good later. If you need bread for the next day, I recommend checking out 85 Degrees Bakery or Summery. Note that they don't accept cash, so you'll need to use a credit card. read more

The breads here are amazing. You guys need two improvements: 1. Your drink counter needs to always be open. You're throwing away money. Drinks go perfect with the breads. 2. Quality bread but a bit on the pricey side. I've tried more of their bread using the Too Good To Go app and what a great deal! You get 5 pcs (random, like a blind box) for the price of what you would usually pay for 2 pcs full price. Most of the time I got a good variety of bread but there was 1 time I got duplicates and also 1 other time when I got more than 1 day old bread, it was probably 2 days old (dry and stale). But overall happy with what I've tried so far and I hope they stay open. It seems like most of their business is coming from the Too Good to Go app. read more

Just ok- everything is ultra plastic-packaged, beautifully presented, and on the expensive side. I ordered: 1. Pineapple wine bread- not as delicious as it would sound. The flavor was very mild and not something I would buy again. 2. Uji matcha bread: at the potluck this was the least eaten thing. It looked and sounded awesome but was dry and very mild in flavor. Maybe if you are having a minimalist tea party with no other sugars, it would taste ok? Personally I prefer bakeries that don't use so much plastic for packaging and have more bright flavors. The bread is truly addicting, I love the bounce and softness. The flavors and textures of each bread is different depending on what you get. Ibe tried the tuna cheese bread, it was super filling and filled with a bunch of tuna. I recently got their pumpkin bread, I thought it had more cheese taste than pumpkin but still good nonetheless. The best one in my opinion is the sesame bread, hokkaido red bean, and raisin walnut cream cheese!! My grandma loved eating the mixed nut bread. Each bread can range from $3.50-$5.50. I like that they always come out with unique flavors, last time I came I saw Ube which I hadn't seen before! The service is nice and the inside is fairly clean and spacious. I haven't been to Duke Bakery for years and I didn't know/couldn't remember why. I checked out Yelp and it seemed they have unique pastry items, so I decided to check them out. They are not individually wrapped for sale like the bakeries nearby, and because of that, their price points are higher. My son likes mango so I decided to get Mango QQ. Don't know what they taste like and although afraid of it being not good, my only option was to buy the 6-pack bag since individually wrapped was not an option. That's an investment right there. I also got the 4-pack Caramel Crisp and a Hugh Graham. Came home to taste them all and was left rather underwhelmed. Didn't taste the mango in Mango QQ and tasted the cheese and not caramel in Caramel Crisp. Felt like I was just eating some bread without any distinct flavors when I ate Hugh Graham. And I got it because it supposedly contains Belgian chocolate. I guess I now know why I don't ever go there. Ok no- just no. When 85 bakery was closed yesterday... this is where I went! Duke Bakery honestly used to be a delicious bakery with a nice selection of different asian inspired breads. I tried their mango QQ (didn't taste like mango at all) - also it's QQ from mochi filling. I also tried a few of their chocolate breads - which were disappointingly stale. Their cookies and cream bread was bland, hard, and just stuffed with chocolate chips. The breads are big, expensive, and didn't taste good. I had my hopes up since I used to get bread here before 85 opened, but their quality has really gone down the drain. They prepackage all breads now, cakes are sparse, selection and quantity are both down due to probably low demand. They also have hand sanitizer at the front door and it's REAL and GOOD QUALITY hand sanitizer (not the random bottle of liquid-y alcohol at some places like 99 ranch). Parking was plentiful and there were still a lot of breads when I went at 4:30pm. Docked off a star because they super upped their prices. A bread is like $3.50 or $4.50 now whereas JJ Bakery and 85 Bakery are still generally under the $2 range. I bought 4 breads and the total was $17. Mind you, that the bread sizes are much bigger, but I wouldn't say it's double the size to justify double the price. Also, the lady at the cashier was super grouchy. eep. read more

I came around 6pm so there weren't a lot of selections for bread by then but I did find something unique. I like black sesame flavored items and came across a black sesame cake. Illegally selling gift certificates and scam the customer to purchase it. We purchased $120 in Duke bakery gift certificates on November 24th 2022 for $100 cash. Went to use them April 7th 2024 and was told that they had expired. On the Gift certificates themselves is text reading, "This certificate may only be redeemed by the original recipient. Only one redemption per visit. Expires in one year", but gift certificates are not allowed to expire under California law, and Federal law prohibits expiration dates earlier than five years. This breach of the law resulted in a loss of $100 on our part. Had to file a fraud report on federal trade commission. read more

COVID-19: Social distancing is enforced at this establishment. All of the staff wears a mask. All customers are expected to wear a mask too. The staff also wear gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has no outdoor seating available with limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. While I was grabbing my baked goods from this establishment today, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment. Parking: This establishment shares a small parking lot with several other establishments. Prepandemic, this parking lot would constantly be full, so you would have to circle the lot a bit for parking. Now during the pandemic, parking is a lot easier. There are always some parking spots available at all hours of the day. Be careful where you park though. Some parking spots are smaller than others, so your car may get dinged. Food: The baked goods here are super yummy. I got me some red bean and green bean bread. So yummy, fluffy, and delicious. I also got myself some garlic bread. Dat buttery garlic bread= heaven. Staff: The staff here are super nice. They take credit card. They prefer credit card over cash. This is no minimum for credit card use. Super easy checkout. I remember going almost regularly to the branch in Rowland Heights. I liked that their bread selections are quite unique and seemed healthier. Ive tried almost every one of the popular choices and each one of them was highly satisfying. My personal favorite is the Hokkaido Azuki & Milk Toast and Sesame. I am sort of addicted and obsessed with anything with black sesame these days. After I tried the sample, I knew I had to get it. I also got a thinly sliced black sesame cake from the refrigerated section which was pretty good too. I wish it was a little more moist. Most of their breads are $4-$5 and some are in $3 range as well. What's neat about Duke Bakery is those little bread carts. I think the idea is pretty unique and fun. Its more convenient than holding a tray yourself since your hands can be free to do other tasks like answering your phone while bread shopping. It's located in a not-so-busy plaza so plenty of parking is available throughout the day. Close from the Santa Anita mall and Din Tai Fung, I will occasionally come to get breads for my Mom in the future. To add, this shop is organized and tidy with friendly staff to answer your questions. They also have beverages! read more

I actually came here for JoMi cake, which is located within the same place/suite as Duke Bakery. JoMi cake did not have the sliced mille crepes (only available on certain days) that I came here for, so I decided to look around Duke Bakery to see if there's anything I can try. I purchased a cranberry bread and a black sesame coconut pudding. The cranberry multigrain bread was stale and the black sesame coconut pudding had already gone sour -- waste of money. I have attached photos and you'll see that there's bacterial bubbles forming already... nasty. If you see this, do not buy. I did buy 2 packaged snack items (crispy fish skin - garlic flavor & cranberry mochi-like cookies). These were pretty good, which is why I'm giving them 2 stars. The crispy fish skin had a fishy odor upon opening the package, but once you start munching, it's quite addicting. The cranberry cookies (not 100% sure what it's made of), but it seemed to be a combo of cranberry & nuts coated in powdered sugar. These cookies were pleasantly sweet and tart, but was very sticky and a mess to eat. Sadly, I will not be coming back here, especially since there's a lot of other Chinese bakeries in town that are far better. read more
