Sunmerry Bakery is a family owned franchise bake shop that specializes in fresh Asian pastries and desserts. They have over 80 kinds of bread and cakes as well as tea drinks. Originally founded in JPN and later introduced to Taiwan, whereby it became a household name. This location is in San Gabriel Valley in a large corner shopping plaza. I have walked pasa by this bakery for ages but never had the chance to check it out until now. I walked-in and I did not see no difference between this and with other Asian Bakery style like 86 degree, JJ's or Phoenix bakeries. Same style, same layout, same prices, same service and same quality. But one thing I notice is the popularity of the brand to locals. Anyways, I tried their individually wrapped bread bakery such as tuna and chicken. Both were soft, tasty and satisfying to me mouth. Moreover, I ordered a Mango Green Tea because I was silently choking. My drink was refreshing, perfectly sweetened Mango purée and a life saver. Hehe. Their young female staff were cordial and professional. Prices were definitely competitive. Service was fast & efficient. Parking lot is huge. Overall, I am very satisfied with their bakery products and fruit tea drinks. I highly recommend you visit. If you have not tried, you have not lived. ;D lol read more

My review is specifically for their egg tarts. My kid came home telling me he volunteered to bring 40 egg tarts to school TOMORROW. Imagine my panic... Fortunately I remembered that Sunmerry had good egg tarts, but they were already closed. Surprise! they have an online order system, so I ordered for pickup the next morning. Parking: plaza with a lot of restaurants and bad parkers/drivers parking on the top. There is a lower level area to park. I came here for a cake that I saw on their website but it felt like a diy knockoff. But at this point I didn't want to go to another bakery to get a cake. I got the blueberry yogurt and it didn't match the picture on their website. It was shorter with less fruit and the decorations were smaller. The cake itself was mediocre. The blueberry jam was flavorless and the strawberries were raw, blueberries had a couple that were moldy or not cleaned, and strawberries were sour given that it was strawberry season. It seems like the ingredients weren't sourced very well. There was way too much cream. The checkout person was very friendly and seemed like it was a one woman operation or the owner only hired her for the day. She was working fast but definitely had a back up. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]While the space was clean and organized, the service was meh.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's a self-serve bakery where you get a tray and put on it whatever you want and the cashier rings you up. A small bakery in the midst of Camellia Square Plaza in Temple City, love the selection of breads here. They're stacked quite nicely compared to other bakeries which makes it easier to grab. This specific visit with my partner, we got plenty of savory breads such as the frank roll, and plenty of sweet breads. Had my eyes on the mochi taro bread which turned out pretty tasty. Frank Roll was also pretty tasty, not too salty but it was however a bit greasy. My absolute favorite anywhere is certainly the pineapple bread (bo lo bao.) I'd say the ones at Sunmerry are a bit more standout than the ones at other Asian bakeries. Love the selection and a surprisingly good presentation on the bread. Not flat and very fluffy. Easy to eat and very enjoyable. Service here is pretty quick. Nothing too special or standout but it's mostly just pay and go. My partner and I both got a matcha latte as they were doing a BOGO. Follow-up call: About 10mins before 3pm, I received a call from, I can't recall, the owner or manager apologizing about the experience I had. I didn't really pay attention at first bc I thought it was a scam call. He was very apologetic. I really appreciate the call and for him to hear me out. I am glad he's taking this seriously consider there were other loyal customers had similar experiences recently. I have to agree there are new faces. However, I don't want to blame it on the generation because I know many smart and hardworking folks regardless of their generations. I absolutely hate to see one of my favorite bakeries fail. My son and I have always enjoyed visiting every week and ate the pastries by the teacup water fountain. So, thank you for the call, for thinking about your customers, and for taking action to make things right and better. o6.o4.2o26 I ordered a cake online for pick up at 4:30pm on 6/3. When I got there around 4:45pm, there were two customers in line and they took forever!! It took so long that the line started to form and the staff had no urgency whatsoever. I had to ask another staff who handles the drink for assistance. I figured she just need to grab it from the fridge bc it's already paid for. Nope! She went to the back for a couple minutes, came back out and grab the one for display! I didn't have time to question because I was in a freaking hurry! Just not too long ago today, I received a call that I still have a cake on hold for pick up. That means they gave me an old cake from the display? DRINKS: Peach Oolong Tea 4.25/5 Decently good. Tried it when they have a BOGO deal. At 50% sugar, the sweetness level and taste is good. Lemon Cooler 3.9/5 Taste like an Asian Style lemonade. Light and not as tart. SNACKS/DESSERT: Napoleon Egg Tart 4.5/5 $1.49/ea. These are pretty good and the price is lovely. These wave edged egg tarts have a crispy/flaky outer shell (edge) and they're delicious. I like the ones from Little Swan Bakery too, but they're bigger and more expensive ($3.49/ea I believe). I was at Camellia Square in Temple City a few weeks back. I saw Sunmerry Bakery and wanted to check them out, but I didn't get a chance to until most recently. I came here one Saturday evening. They even have a boba and tea drinks menu. Cool! I knew exactly what I wanted to get which was their Taro cake slice. From what I was informed by the nice lady staff, they are not selling the Taro cake slice until after Christmas or maybe even after New Year's. Oh well. I got the Red Velvet and Black Forest cake slices instead. Unfortunately, I didn't care for either of these two cakes. Red Velvet was not what I expected... it was not sweet at all and was semi-mushy. Black Forest was better, but still lacked sweetness. I'll have to wait until after the New Year's to try their Taro... hope it won't disappoint like the other two. Fingers crossed! To my surprise, they also sell Melo Melo coconut desserts... selections are limited... maybe 5 to 6 flavors are available. I couldn't resist, but to buy 2 jars of Coconut Double. This review is not about the quality of the food, but specifically about the customer service experience during this visit. I am a regular customer at Sunmerry Bakery in Temple City and have supported this location consistently over time. The majority of my purchases are specifically for the egg tarts, which I frequently purchase not only for myself, but also for teams and individuals within the Veteran and military family community that I work alongside and support. While I am not a Veteran myself, a significant part of my professional and volunteer work involves supporting Veterans, military families, and community organizations throughout the area. As someone who lives in the local community, I make a conscious effort to support neighborhood businesses whenever possible. Sunmerry Bakery has been one of those businesses that I have chosen to support repeatedly because of the quality of its products and my desire to see local businesses succeed. I have frequently recommended Sunmerry Bakery to Veterans, military families, coworkers, and community members seeking quality egg tarts in the area. Having shared their products at meetings, community gatherings, and events throughout the region, the feedback has consistently been positive, which is why I have continued supporting and recommending this business. Because of how often I visit, support, and recommend this bakery to others, this interaction stood out even more and left me genuinely surprised and disappointed. At the time of my visit, there was only one customer ahead of me. I selected 2 ube conchas and 1 chocolate concha before approaching the counter. While assisting me, Morgan was engaged in a friendly conversation with another customer regarding county wages. She greeted me and asked if there was anything else I needed while ringing up my order. I then requested an additional 4 Portuguese egg tarts and 4 Napoleon egg tarts. I also mentioned that I was picking up a future order under the name Peter. I politely asked whether the future order had been separated into two boxes, since the pastries were intended for two separate teams that support and serve the Veteran community. I further explained that the order consisted of two separate sets of mixed egg tarts so they could easily be distributed to two different teams. Morgan responded by stating, "No, but I can give you extra boxes so you can separate them yourself." At the time, there were no other customers waiting in the store. It was only myself, Morgan, another employee, and someone in the back. I tried to explain the reason for the request, hoping there might be some understanding or accommodation given the simple nature of the situation. However, the response remained the same and came across as dismissive rather than helpful. The interaction left me confused and disappointed. Customer service does not always require grand gestures; sometimes it is simply about professionalism, tone, and making customers feel respected. Unfortunately, this interaction left a negative impression despite how much I normally enjoy supporting this bakery. Afterward, I returned to politely ask for her name. Her demeanor immediately became defensive, and she responded by asking why I needed it and stated that she did not have to provide it. According to the receipt, the clerk was identified as Morgan K. What stood out most was not necessarily the refusal itself, but the overall tone of the interaction and the apparent frustration throughout what I believed was a straightforward customer request. This is also the second uncomfortable experience I have had involving similar behavior, which is why I felt it was important to provide honest feedback. I am providing this feedback because I genuinely enjoy Sunmerry Bakery's products and would like to continue supporting the business. Sunmerry is a popular Asian bakery chain in California and New Jersey with an extensive selection of cakes, donuts, pastries, breads, croissants, and even some savory items like pork bolo buns and ham and egg brioche. They also make cakes to order for events and do fundraisers too. On my latest visit I grabbed a variety of sweet pastries to sample - mango mochinut, strawberry mochinut, strawberry cloud donut, coconut cream roll, and some cheese tarts that I mistook for egg tarts lol. Luckily I enjoyed the mistake - the cheese tarts were quite nice! Light but creamy and not too sweet - would get again. The strawberry cloud donut was decent too - the smooth cream was very sweet but balanced by the not-so-sweet pastry - and was a nice fluffy texture. The mochinuts had nice flavors too - very strong fruit profiles - but the texture was too chewy. I wouldn't get these again given there are so many mochinut shops in the SGV. The coconut cream roll was my least fave. The dough was kinda thick and dry and the cream just tasted like I was biting into a stick of butter with sugar mixed in - there wasn't much coconut flavor at all. And it was covered in the thinnest shaved coconut "dust" I've ever seen - it was very loose and messy and just covered every surface BUT the donut. Definitely wouldn't get this again. When you enter, you grab some tongs and a tray and just browse around and grab what you want. Take it up to the counter and they'll bag it up for you. They have coffee menu too - and were giving samples of cinnamon cheesecake (Japanese style) at the register which was fantastic! Service was friendly and welcoming. Prices were surprisingly great. They're located in a large shopping center with narrow parking spots which could be challenging when it gets busy. I thought it was butter but was informed they use palm oil, peanut oil, soybean oil, vegetable oil in the whipped cream stuff in some of the sweet buns. Product wise, they offer a wide selection of baked goods and pastries that cover the gamut of usual suspects. The one note to consider is how airy their breads are and how easily they lose their volume. Fillings used in many of their buns are tasty and often are conservative with their sweetness which can be a plus for many. Cakes are also usual in respect and decorated with flair. I came in today to use a BOGO (Buy One Get One) promotion and had a disappointing experience. Because I wasn't feeling well, I politely asked if they could put less ice in my drink. I specifically told them that the drink did not need to be filled to the top and that they could simply leave out the portion that would normally be occupied by ice. I was not asking for extra drink, only less ice. Unfortunately, the female supervisor refused the request and told me it was not allowed. What disappointed me even more was her attitude, which came across as unfriendly and dismissive. A simple request for less ice should not have been treated as a problem, especially when I was not asking for additional product. Customer service is just as important as the drinks themselves. I left feeling disappointed by the lack of flexibility and the poor attitude I encountered. Worried about the quality of the products in such heat, I decided not to buy them. The temperature is quite concerning, as many breads contain meat and butter, which can easily go bad in such conditions. The breads with cream and chocolate, such as coconut cream, oreo choco bun, and dirty bun all looked very melted... I typically enjoy their breads, especially the bolo milk butter, but the extreme heat in the store recently has caused me to question if the bread is still okay to eat... I went to Sunmerry Bakery on three separate occasions and it has now become my favorite bakery AND tea shop. They remind me of another big bakery and tea place I know, but honestly, Sunmerry is 3x better. Fluffier breads, quality tea drinks, and gorgeous cakes. Plus, the staff are so nice and have a very calming demeanor that just makes me want to stay there all day. The staff are also very helpful at recommending things when I ask, because there are so many great options and I can't choose, haha! They are a few bucks more than other asian bakeries but I don't mind paying more for a better experience and better quality goodies. My fiance is a pickier tea drinker than I am, and he said their Grapefruit Green Tea is a 5 out of 5 on the delicious scale - perfectly sweet but not too sweet. You can taste the fresh grapefruit flavor, and the tea was sifted with love and care - we definitely recommend the Grapefruit Green Tea here, and it sure is a refreshing summer drink. It has become a staple to order here. I also went out of my way to try their cake and because I remembered how good their cake looked in the display the last time I was there. My girl bestie loooovvves chocolate, and she had a birthday coming up and I knew I had to get their cake here. I opted for the 6-inch Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Cream, Chocolate Ganche, and Raspberry Jam, and it was perfect. She had lots of sweets celebrating her birthday with multiple friends and told me Sunmerry's cake was the lightest, fluffiest, and most chocolate-y and a cake she can have everyday, easily, because it is just so light and fluffy. I also got to try it and it was very much enjoyed to the last lick of the fork. Plus, it was decorated like a cute fluffy cloud dog, how can I resist? I also got to try a variety of their breads - from their chocolate oreo buns that sent me to chocolate world, to the mochi taro bread that was as fluffy and light as a pillow, to their mini frank roll pack; there wasn't anything I didn't love. This review is solely based on online ordering as it is misleading & promoting false advertisement. I placed an online order for a Snoopy cake, well thinking it was a Snoopy cake until I opened the box at home & it was a Santa cake. On their online form there are 2 holiday Snoopy cakes & next to it has the flavors of the cakes. Had I known it wasn't a Snoopy cake I would have gone elsewhere as I was having a Snoopy theme party. When I went to pick up the cake I thought it was odd that the worker didn't show me the cake which is what most bakeries do when you pick up your cake. They bring out the cake to show you what it looks like & then place it in the box. If you decide to do online order make sure you call that it's the correct cake as shown on their site or you have them show you the cake prior on leaving the bakery. The worker could have informed me that it wasn't a Snoopy cake but instead a Xmas cake. As for the cake itself it was somewhat frozen as we tasted icicles. So the mixed fruit cake that I ordered was a Xmas cake & they probably couldn't sell it so they placed it in the freezer hoping someone would order a mix fruit cake & it happened to be me. read more

Came in recently to pick up some egg tarts and for the BOGO because Sunmerry Bakery is one of the places that makes my favorite egg tarts and bread. [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, I am concerned with how hot it has been, and it was so hot when I came into the store.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] With the bread on display and the store so hot, I was so concerned it might not be safe to eat, so I didn't bother getting any. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was really difficult to enjoy the visit, especially since the air conditioner felt like it wasn't working.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I understand that bakeries can get hot from the oven, but I hope that on my next visit, there will be some ventilation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I hope Sunmerry can address this issue, as the staff was nice, but I hope the heat cools down so my next visit will be more enjoyable. read more

The prices at this Sunmerry were pretty reasonable, and the staff courteous. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm docking a star since the inside of the bakery was a bit startlingly warm the day we went (it was 85 degrees out and walking into Sunmerry, the difference wasn't too obvious, so I wonder if the bread stays as fresh as other locations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will be back another day to see if similar occurs). However, we enjoyed the egg tarts we got from here as they were not too sweet, so we'll be back for sure for the egg tarts. read more

I don't understand why this place is always out of Oolong tea. The first time I went after the Sunmerry newsletter announced that they they will start serving Oolong tea. The second time was a few weeks later when they started their summer BOGO promotions. Both times they ran out of Oolong. I'm starting to suspect they never started brewing the tea. read more
