    Egg tarts

Kind and friendly staff, I love the egg tarts, my favorite pastry. The shop is very chill.

This is a bakery that serves Hong Kong pastries and buns. There's a wide variety of selections to choose from. There are buns with cream and custard and others with sausage. We came in the late afternoon so a lot of the selection was empty and I don't think they restock at that hour. It's pretty standard pastries. They're soft bread. Unlike shops in Colorado, the pastries are huge. They're all pretty inexpensive as well. The eggtarts do fall apart easily when he heated them up but still tastes good. Nothing is too sweet. It's like an easy light breakfast bread when you're in a rush or need to pack something to eat for a road trip.

Came to pickup some pastries for Chinese new year. They have a reasonable amount of different breads at a pretty good price. Cashier mostly spoke mandarin. Place is pretty small but solid place to pick up a few snacks.

:: Food :: Decent spot for baked goods. They only have your basic bread and desserts, so if you're looking for unique flavors then this is not the place. :: Service :: Customer service is usually fine here. Their bread are reasonably priced. They charge extra if you use your credit card for anything under $10. :: Parking :: Plenty of parking spots available in front of their shop.

Gee, who knows how many Asian bakeries and dessert shops there must be on this stretch of East Valley Blvd in San Gabriel? This is pretty much like any other with trays, tongs, and individually wrapped pastries and cake slices. Jamie W. and I were just getting some beverages at the San Gabriel Superstore when we saw Mom 's and thought some goodies were in order. Each is less than $2, and if you buy two, you get the third for free. Who would knock a deal like that? We got a couple of Coconut Sesame Buns, a Cream Cheese Bun, and she also had a deal on a bag of Ginger Cookies for $2.50. Sure, it was good stuff, but dammit, it did translate to extra time on the treadmill back at the hotel gym. BAKED GOODS - 4 stars...classic Chinese buns and breads for less than $2 each AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...an old-timey shop but quite clean SERVICE - 4 stars...hey, she was giving us deals, how could we refuse? TOTAL - 4 stars...not my mom's bakery but close enough RELATED - Exploring LA? Here's a collection of places I've visited and reviewed: https://bit.ly/2TWT63v

Found this hidden gem on my way to the supermarket in the same plaza. I was SO impressed and happy to see them doing in-house baking, the store smelled good like fresh baked toast. The price was much cheaper compared to the chain bakeries, the service was friendly. The cashier ladies took the time to teach me how to re-heat their mini bit Lunar New Year Cake, she actually told me to buy the regular size to save money :) but I am on diet and those mini bites are just perfect for me!

It's a small bakery store, carrying limited bread and pastry stuff, half of the shelves were empty around late afternoon, bought their pineapple buns and toast, $10 minimum for credit card, otherwise cash payment only.

After shopping at San Gabriel Superstore, we conveniently stopped by here. Usually towards the end of the night before closing, the bakery will offer a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" deal. All of the buns range from $1.35 to $2.55. There's nothing better than some Chinese buns on the go. This is the perfect snack to have with a range of pork sung to charsui baos. Just like it's name, these baos definitely remind me of home with my mom. I'm not saying I'd go out of the way to come here, but it's never a bad idea to come either.

I've been to this location, as well as the one in El Monte. Both Mom's bakeries offer affordable price in their pastries, as well as cakes. I've ordered 8-inch cakes from them before and they only cost $28, which is a few dollars cheaper compared to other bakeries. They also do customized cakes. I was able to get a customized cake for my daughter's first birthday a little under $50. Staff here are friendly and easy to communicate with.

A small, no frills Asian bakery. There is a $10 minimum fee to use a credit card. The selection is also a tad small here.

Egg tarts on the wall, cute videos rolling and the bathroom painting made me lol. The pastry display was amazing. So many unique options, with the cutest designs. We got one of each egg tarts and a couple character mouses. Egg tarts were great. Favorite was the caramelized one, since the crust was flaky and the filling was like creme brulee without being too sweet. The coconut egg tart wasn't giving egg tart, but it was amazing. Least favorite was the original, since it was a tad overdone and giving scrambled egg. We then got the capybara and garlic bird mouses. I'm not an orange chocolate fan, so the capybara was more cuteness than taste for me, but the bird was great. Staff were helpful and efficient. I'd come back!

The hours are a bit limited, but I managed to make it in time to grab some pre-made baked goods to go. I got a bag of coconut macaroons, bag of several chocolate chip cookies, 2 red velvet cookies, a baked dog cookie biscuit, and a cute Keroppi sugar cookie. Most of these ended up being gifts, but I did enjoy one of the red velvet cookies and for an already sweet flavor profile with white chocolate chips in it, I was already fearing the worse, but went perfect with a glass of milk. The edges were nicely crisped by the baking too. Delicious. Love that they had a stock of cute, pre-decorated cookies available as well (some Sanrio characters, animals, etc.) They also list all the ingredients used in each of the baked goods that they have prepackaged, which is nice. It's also filled with a light, soft cream. DELICIOUS! I arrived at Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel) on a Wednesday (around 3:42PM). Parking is simple. There's a competitive customer parking lot. And there's a city public parking lot about a two minute walk away. Staff is very friendly, professional, and welcoming. Staff maintained a bright smile throughout my visit. Staff immediately helped me. Customers can order at the self-service kiosk or counter; however, the kiosk felt very dated & the prices on the kiosk felt less transparent. I recommend just ordering at the counter. There's no penalty for using card at this donut establishment. As mentioned, I love the Tiramisu Donut ($4.95). It's not too sweet; rather, it all felt balanced. However, this is a VERY messy donut; I recommend eating this donut with a fork and knife. The powder fall everywhere, and your clothes can quickly get stained with chocolate powder. Still, it's a delicious pastry. On ambiance, Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel) is comfortable. This business is more reminiscent of a cafe than a typical donut shop. There's customer internet with password; details on the counter. There's a gender neutral restroom. And there's an electrical outlet & outlet adaptor for devices. The location is fairly small; there's one interior table and one small counter. Fortunately, this place felt airy and well-ventilated. There's also some upbeat, fun music in this clean spot. Overall, I found unexpected joy at Old Ferry Donut (San Gabriel). There's sincere passion & hard work within these walls. (FYI - they are going to open a Goomo tea shop on the corner in the same space!) D'ange has so many fun flavors of buns. I really liked the taro with mochi one. The only thing about the buns is that the fillings tend to be only on one side of the bun, so there are been times as I'm biting into the bun, I'm not getting any filling until the last couple bites. They even sell cookies and all different flavors of toast that would make some yummy brick toast desserts! And if you need a whole cake, they have them in the case ready to go too! The buns I got were great, as were the Portuguese egg tarts. They even sold Chinese tamales at my last visit, so I picked one up too. Everyone at the party seemed to enjoy it. They also open at 8am which makes pickup convenient if you need a cake for an early event. One little bonus: if you pay cash, there's usually a small discount. Let's just say Uncle Sam might not be getting invited to that party.
