Mom's Bakery is a no frills Chinese bakery located on Valley Blvd. They have the usual goodies found at typical Chinese bakeries; various buns, spongecake, taro buns, etc. I got the mini spongecake, a green tea roll, and taro bun. All were good. The green tea roll stood out because the matcha flavor was pretty strong, and i like my matcha rich and bold like that! Everything was sweetened just right. The bakery goods are discounted at the end of the day which is a great deal! It was buy 2 get 1 free. The baked buns, or bao, are a straightforward snack I liked the bun trio which had some red bean paste, egg custard, and maybe coconut fillings. This is a bakery that serves Hong Kong pastries and buns. There's a wide variety of selections to choose from. There are buns with cream and custard and others with sausage. We came in the late afternoon so a lot of the selection was empty and I don't think they restock at that hour. It's pretty standard pastries. They're soft bread. Unlike shops in Colorado, the pastries are huge. They're all pretty inexpensive as well. The eggtarts do fall apart easily when he heated them up but still tastes good. Nothing is too sweet. Gee, who knows how many Asian bakeries and dessert shops there must be on this stretch of East Valley Blvd in San Gabriel? This is pretty much like any other with trays, tongs, and individually wrapped pastries and cake slices. Jamie W. and I were just getting some beverages at the San Gabriel Superstore when we saw Mom 's and thought some goodies were in order. Each is less than $2, and if you buy two, you get the third for free. Who would knock a deal like that? We got a couple of Coconut Sesame Buns, a Cream Cheese Bun, and she also had a deal on a bag of Ginger Cookies for $2.50. Sure, it was good stuff, but dammit, it did translate to extra time on the treadmill back at the hotel gym. Found this hidden gem on my way to the supermarket in the same plaza. I was SO impressed and happy to see them doing in-house baking, the store smelled good like fresh baked toast. The price was much cheaper compared to the chain bakeries, the service was friendly. The cashier ladies took the time to teach me how to re-heat their mini bit Lunar New Year Cake, she actually told me to buy the regular size to save money :) but I am on diet and those mini bites are just perfect for me! read more

Came to buy Crispy cake. The chiffon cake was really good . Unfortunately, the crispy portion of the cake, which is in the middle of the 2 chiffon was slightly burnt. So our cake had a burnt taste. After shopping at San Gabriel Superstore, we conveniently stopped by here. Usually towards the end of the night before closing, the bakery will offer a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" deal. All of the buns range from $1.35 to $2.55. There's nothing better than some Chinese buns on the go. This is the perfect snack to have with a range of pork sung to charsui baos. Just like it's name, these baos definitely remind me of home with my mom. I'm not saying I'd go out of the way to come here, but it's never a bad idea to come either. read more

Decided to stop by Mom's Bakery on a whim and I'm very glad I did. The lady that helped me was very accommodating and patient. Instead of selecting bread on the shelf, she went out of her way to bring me bread that was freshly baked out of the oven. Out of all bakery breads I've tried, this has stood out to me the most. It was soft and pillowy, and resembled the texture much like Hawaiian bread. 10/10 would recommend, and be sure to savor every bite! read more

Mom's Bakery is in the plaza where the San Gabriel Superstore is located. It is a decent bakery, the assortment of items that we purchase are mostly four stars. The cakes and rolls are fluffy and fresh and we like the way the asian bakeries do not overuse sugar. Prices are about the same as the other twenty or so bakeries along Valley Blvd. My go to item at these type of bakeries would be the egg tarts. I've been to this location, as well as the one in El Monte. Both Mom's bakeries offer affordable price in their pastries, as well as cakes. I've ordered 8-inch cakes from them before and they only cost $28, which is a few dollars cheaper compared to other bakeries. They also do customized cakes. I was able to get a customized cake for my daughter's first birthday a little under $50. Staff here are friendly and easy to communicate with. read more

I thought that I had reviewed Mom's Bakery a long time ago, but I guess that I forgot. I have picked up some yummy pastries and cookies several times, and their freshness and goodness never disappointment. The prices also are very reasonable. Earlier this evening, we picked up a some Coffee Crackers, Scones, and a Swiss Coffee Cake Roll for a total of just $8. Everything tasted yummy, too! This shop is on the north side of the shopping complex a few doors to the west of the supermarket entrance. The parking lot is pock-marked and often crowded. So, drive and park carefully. read more

I love this place! It is a simple, no frills bake shop filled with delicious Cantonese baked goods! The prices are soooo cheap - 3 buns for $1.75 for example! They are quite delicious as well! Red bean mochi (I have been searching high and low for this my whole life!), pineapple milk buns, milk custard buns, etc. You can't go wrong with any of them! The buns themselves aren't stupidly sweet and they have a light crunch to it at the surface. I am drooling just thinking about them. $10 minimum for cards; otherwise - cash! their bread is yummy which is the reason i keep coming back. service is terrible. i work near by and often come with my mom to get some bread. they never greet us or even smile even when we do. the first time me and my mom came in (we are Mexican and she doesn't speak english well) she wasn't understanding that you need to buy more than $10 to use card and as i was explaining it to my mom the lady raised her voice at her. we always leave and say thank you and they never say anything back. they stare at us like we're gonna steal or something. stand near the door aswell. when she was paying with card the lady began to point at her to go and put her pin when she could simply just call her over. sad to see how sh*tty their service is when the bread is good. read more

I came here on a weekday at around 9 am and they had a lot of different types of bread out. I can't seem to remember the exact name of the buns I got but it had taro, coconut and milk or cream. It was 3 mini buns stuck together and had 3 different topping on each bun. That was my favorite. I will have to go back again to see which one it is. They have the pork sung roll which I believe is a bit cheaper than Tanbii and almost tastes the same. On another occasion, I was able to try a different bread that my sister bought for me and the middle tasted damp. It was not quite baked all the way and the dough was a bit soggy. So I'm hoping this is not a frequent incident I run into because I plan to come back here to try some other breads. read more

One of my favorite Asian Bakery. I love going there early in the morning to get fresh baked rolls and pastries. I actually prefer this over 85 and other pastries in the area. Recently I purchased the green onion, green onion & pork sung bread, along with dinner rolls. If you put them in the fridge and reheat it in the microwave for 30 seconds, tastes as good as fresh. I love stocking up on them when I'm in town. The dinner rolls aren't your usual dinner rolls. It is light, fluffy, and has a hint of sweetness. I had it with tuna salad yesterday and it was so good! Better than those Hawaiian rolls. I'll stock up more next time! read more

This place is definitely not better than 85° or Paris Bakery, but they do have some tasty buns. I personally love the custard bun and sausage buns. Sometimes the sausage buns taste overly dry, but not so much that it is just disgusting. The custard bun is moist and very soft and delicious. I haven't got a problem with those. The sandwiches there are also nice too, the bread is never hard and the egg is fluffy. I also love the ham egg and cheese bun they have. It is really good. Some breads might be dry sometimes but as I said this place isn't too bad. There are certain buns that are just bad and others taste amazing. read more

I've only ever had their breads, so I'm putting the 5 stars for this. Their breads are pretty amazing. They're very soft, well portioned, and fresh! There is a nice variety to choose from, which is especially important for me since I generally prefer the bread with fillings in the middle. Some of the filled ones look like they'll be plain on the inside, but then BAM, I'll be pleasantly surprised to find that is not the case when I'm eating it. read more

Super fluffy, moist enough with the right amount of sweetness. I like buying their cake end pieces for cheaper since they're the same sponge cake. We went to eat at Mama dumpling house which is in the same shopping Plaza as mom's bakery. We drove pass this bakery and saw a sign that they have crispy cake. We normally purchase this from JJ bakery but decided to give this place a try. I purchased 1/2 sheet worth and couldn't wait to get home to try it. I gave 1/4 sheet to my neighbor and kept 1/4 sheet for myself. I was majorly disappointed when I reached it and felt the sponge cake. It was hard and when I took a bite, it was stale. It tasted like it was at least 2 days old. I reached out to my neighbor and she said hers was hard and stale as well. These may be a couple dollars less than JJ's but I'm not coming back to this bakery for the cake again. read more
