Once again, I'm in this shop only because they are the nearest place to sell this thread. Sure enough, my favorite employee is being sarcastic about a customer that just left. I'm guessing the shopper was inquiring about a machine. My favorite sour puss commented to another employee that she was sure the customer would need financing (based on the way she looked) but then learned that she wouldn't need it. Really? You need to make those kind of comments in front of other customers? This is NOT the kind of place where I feel good about spending my money. I certainly don't linger and look at their product line after the service/comments I've received in the past - and continue to hear the employees make about other customers. read more

Outstanding! Bought a sewing machine there, based on recommendations from friends. What a great move! This is a hometown business, in operation for 40+ years...family owned & run. The owner, Dave, is very much involved in everyday transactions, knows his stuff, is no pressure, and totally honest. When we bought the machine he "threw in" a number of accessories. Months later, when we were having trouble operating it-during the coronavirus shutdown- Dave had us park out back, took the machine and fixed the problem while we waited....with no charge for his labor. This is from a customer of (easily) over 10 years!!! They only get our patronage due to that they are the only service center near us, and warranty service for the machines we own!!! You ever heard the quote "The customer is always right"? Well, the ladies that work here for Dave (I think he's the owner or manager) have never heard this quote, they love to argue over the stupidest things... I think their motto is "The customer is never right, customers are dumb a$$e$, just get their money"!!! Dave on the other hand tries very hard to make everything right (hence 2 stars, not 0), he's got the right attitude but needs to require the same from the face of the store, the ladies up front!!! Yesterday I stopped by, mask on and baby in tow with my Brother Innovis 4000 and what I thought was a bobbin problem. The shop is busy and Dave offered to take a quick look at my machine so that I didn't have to leave it if it wasn't absolutely necessary, and it was something that could be done quickly and simply.as it turns out it was quick and simple, he advised me on the thread cutter and the thread, showed me what I had done wrong, carried the machine out to my car and sent me on my way. I have always had wonderful service and knowledgeable help at the shop. I originally went in for a part for a sewing machine, which unfortunately I didn't have the number for. The employee who normally knows those parts wasn't working that day so I was planning on returning later... And then I started looking around. Long story short, I ended up walking out with a beautiful brand new sewing machine and a free class to learn all the details. The staff is all very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and were very patient while I was trying out several different machines. They also had a wide variety of machines, from sewing to embroidery to sergers, as well as threads, parts and accessories. This shop was recommended to me by a friend. I bought my machine here four years ago, took the class they offered to learn how to use it and recently brought it back in for a tune-up. I received excellent service at all those times, but I'm writing now because Dave not only answered my questions about an issue I was having with a cabinet that I bought elsewhere, but reached out to his company contact on my behalf. I have purchased sewing and serger machines, as well as a Koala sewing table, from Dave at the Dublin Sewing Center. His store is well stocked with the best equipment from various top of the line manufacturers. He and his staff are friendly, knowledgeable and take their time to help educate someone like me who is new to sewing, but they are obviously equally adept at helping the more experienced customers that stream into his store. They provide great service and make sure that their customers are very satisfied with their purchase, and any and all problems are resolved. Their prices are very competitive to other dealers in the Bay Area if not better (that's why I went there in the first place) and if you can wait for their sales, you can take advantage of very nice savings as well. I live in San Francisco but feel that the nearly 35 mile drive to Dublin is well worth the effort. Additionally, they have classes in the use of newly purchased equipment, as well as classes for the more advanced sewers and crafters. I highly recommend this store to anyone looking to buy a sewing machine, sewing furniture, sergers and accessories, thead, etc.. I am sure that if you give Dublin Sewing Center a try, you'll be delighted that you did. Customer service was very poor--we brought our Singer in for repairs, and they treated us like we were lepers. They made it clear that they thought our machine was cheap and worthless, and tried to sell us on a much more expensive machine. Our advice? If you want something fancy, they're the store for you. If you just want something that sews, or need repairs, avoid them! read more

I originally went there to research different types of machines and features. No hard selling, no pushy sales staff. Of the several places I had previously been too, this was the first place interested in listening to me rather than just making a sale. Went here to get my grandmothers sewing machine looked at. We called ahead and explained the issue with her Janome machine and they stated that it would not be an issue. When we took the 30 minute drive to the store we were immediately turned down, the lady said they do not work directly with Janome. After that she insulted the machine and also the thread that was being used. My grandmother walked out of the store crushed because she has been doing this for 20+ years and felt completely put down. We will never be going back and we found a nice company in Walnut Creek! read more

VERY EXPENSIVE FOR ANY REPAIRS. Brought a sewing machine in for some issues, I'm a novice and it was acting up. I tried trouble shooting but I figured I'd bring it to someone who knows more than I. Big expensive mistake. $50 to be told the needle was installed incorrectly. Doesn't exactly make me want to come back for classes or supplies. I generally support independent places like there but when you charge $50 for simple stuff like that I'll go online or to Joann's for my patterns, needles and fabric. As for classes I go to Livermore. Never coming back here. read more

When I first came in I got the rudest customer service ever. There was a women who treated me like a child that couldn't afford a $75 sewing machine fix. She literally treated me like I was stupid and tried to say that there maybe no way of fixing my sewing machine. She took it to the back and Dave right away said that he can do it. The next time I came back that there was a different women and I got to meet Dave and they were so kind to me. He did a great job and now I know why people came back. He is so kind to others and he knows what he's doing. And the other women was so nice to me and made me laugh a few times. They need to do something about that first women. I've been sewing forever. Even owned my own Viking Dealership. I got the same exceptional customer service at the Dublin Sewing Center as I always provided to my customers. I am absolutely impressed with all the staff there. I talked with Dave, Toni and Terry (I'm bad with names, hope I didn't forget anyone). Super polite and extremely helpful. I went into the store because my Viking 936 serger bit the dust. I was in town visiting and live in GA. I had been researching Babylock sergers and they had a great selection to demo. I was only interested in the Englighten and Evolution. I tried the Ovation but it had features I did not need and knew I would not need. I didn't think I wanted another machine with coverstitch because it is usually so difficult to switch to cover that I just figured I would later get a coverstitch machine. But after demoing both machines, I was leaning toward the Evolution. It is simply the Enlighten with cover and chainstitch capabilities. It really is simple to switch. Plus, what a breeze to thread. Well, I was given a quote and went on my way. I had one other vendor to check with that I deal with regularly. My usual vendor did not come close to the package offered by the Dublin Sewing Center. Such a deal! I can't wait to get my new Babylock Evolution serger. I can't wait to start playing with it and seeing what it can do. Thank you everyone at the Center. I came in to look at the Bernina, and Pfaff. I had already looked at the Babylock Aria and loved it, but since I already have a Babylock, I wanted something different. Tonic spent a lot of time with me looking at the Berninas. She could tell I just was not falling in love with it like I had expected to. I then looked at the Pfaff and finally decided on the Babylock! Even though I live almost 5 hours away and have a local dealer, I bought my machine here because of how helpful and knowledgeable Toni is. BEWARE. We sent our antique sewing machine (attached to a beautiful wooden table) in for repair in October. Now, just before Xmas, after several phone calls where the repairman encouraged us to leave the machine for a little longer to figure out what was wrong, we finally gave up and went into the store to take our machine back. The furniture is ruined. Deep scratch marks cover the outside and inside of the table flap. We cannot believe how disrespectfully our lovely piece of furniture was treated, and after two months, the sewing machine was not even fixed. We will never again do business with this store. We are deeply suspicious that they kept delaying the pickup of the machine either because they hoped we d forget about it and they would keep the antique, or because they had so badly damaged the original wood that our great grandmother kept in pristine condition for years. We are writing this not because the damage can be repaired, but to warn others about taking similar items to the store. The worst part really is that they didn t take responsibility for the damages, and that they waited two full months to return our machine in considerably worse condition than it arrived in. After telling a friend about my rather negative experience related to asking about machines at my local shop, a friend told me come to Dublin Sewing Center. I am so glad I took her advice. After making an appointment with Toni who really took the time to walk me through the computerized machines (I own two mechanical machines that only straight stitch so the whole computerized concept was foreign to me), I purchased my Bernina 740 here. It's been about a month now and I have yet to take the 7-series class, but so far I couldn't be happier. I've come back for needles, a Tutto case for transporting my machine, feet, thread, etc. It's worth the 45 minute+ drive from Sunnyvale. They also run different specials every month - November was feet and they were 20% off. I'm not too sure about the other specials but if you get on their e-mail list you'll find out. read more

I came across this sewing store while searching for a dealer who sold Pfaff sewing machines. A purchasing mistake happened because of my own impulse issues. I called the dealer the next day expecting to be told that I was stuck with what I purchased, but instead a gentleman named Dave told me that he would be more than willing to work with me and that he wanted me to be happy. I would've settled had things not gone my way, but he definitely made my day. Thanks to his kindness and generosity I went back the following day and purchased an over-lock machine. Everyone who helped me were not only courteous, but also had a wealth of knowledge on every machine and the different types of notions that were suited for my sewing needs... I am just going to say it, an honest dealer, probably one of the last ones in Bay Area. I had only positive, no-push selling experience with them and this is why I drive there, although Dublin is way too far from my home and dreaded traffic on 580 does not stop me. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and will NOT sell you a machine if you don't need it. They will match you with the one that meets your requirements, and they will do it to perfection. You will get a lifetime free class to educate on the features of the machine you bought (although you probably rarely will need to take the same class twice). Some of the teachers are very knowledgeable and have books written on the subject and it is a pure pleasure to be in one of those classes. I will definitely be back! Many times :D read more

My wife and I went to Dublin Sewing Center to purchase a sewing machine. My wife has never used a machine before and was taking a class on quilt making. She needed to buy a machine capable of making quilts. We encountered an old prune of a sales woman who proceeded to show us Swiss made machines for $800 and more. I felt very uncomfortable but had to ask for models that were cheaper in price and not as high quality because my wife was a beginner and may never use the machine again or use it everyday, at this point she wasn't sure how much after the class she would stick with it. We had explained this to the prune when we walked in but she still was showing us the Bentley instead of the Ford. In all fairness to the prune, she did then show us after we asked, models that were in the $500 range. We didn't get the warm and fuzzy feeling so we left. My wife went to her class and mentioned the experience and two women in the class said that we should buy a machine at Costco like the one's they were using. I looked on the Costco site and purchased a fully automatic machine with hundreds of stitch types etc. which included all necessary parts and it was under $250 My wife has been using it and it's easy and serves the purpose. She went to her class and she was instructed to get a special foot for the last stage of the quilt assembly. We had to go back to Dublin Sewing Center and guess who helped us yes the prune. We explained what we needed and she immediately shouted over to the person who was right near the item "they need a xxxxx for a Wal-mart, Costco machine in the most snootiest voice so everyone in the store could hear that we didn't buy the machine in Dublin but at what sounded like we purchased our machine from a swap meet. Guess what? I'm returning the un-opened foot to Dublin because the Costco machine came equipped with this special quilt making foot which we didn't realize. I would recommend avoiding this place. They are often recommended because let's face it, how many sewing machine stores are left standing for 50 years? Talk to friends and other people familiar with what you need and buy online or you can be made to feel like a non-person, not worthy of a Bentley because you may not want to spend Bentley money for what could amount to a one-time drive. read more

I am a firm believer in Dublin Sewing Center. Dave and Darren grew up in the business, and really know what makes machines work. The staff takes the time to explain what to do with your machine, and how to get the most from the purchase. They are not "hard sell" at all. If you're going to buy a machine, this is absolutely the place to do it. I love that if you buy a machine, you have a YEAR to trade up and get the full purchase price in trade for your machine. So you can buy a machine and "test it out" to see if it will meet your needs without having to buy the top of the line to make sure right off the bat. read more

I took my very old Singer machine in because the stitch selector dials were stuck permanently. I could only do the straight stitches. I'm not a sewer so this was okay for awhile until I actually tried to make a garment. The knobs had been stuck for over 15 yrs but they got them unstuck and gave the machine the once over with cleaning and oiling and it works perfectly now. I had taken it to another place several years ago and was told I needed to buy a new machine so I was very pleased to have it fixed without a sales pitch. read more

The Singer machine went south and was in need of some professional care. We dropped off the machine in the afternoon, they'd check it out and service and repair it as needed. Opening bid was $110 for service (but we had a $20 coupon from one of those mailers). Got a call first thing in the next morning that it was fixed and ready to go, no additional charges, either... seemingly the service/tune-up thingy also includes basic fix-and-repair activity. I have been going to this shop for more than a year now for thread, needles, service and now to pick someone's brain. I was having an issue with the embroidery part of my machine. I had looked through the troubleshooting portions of my handbook and tried to self diagnose. Nothing was happening. So I brought it in with the thread still in it, the project I was working on and my dilemma. Dave is usually the one to help me diagnose the problem and talk/walk me through it and he does a great job. Today I had the pleasure of speaking with Toni. Toni looked at everything I had and helped me to realize what I need to be doing differently. So helpful because I thought I was going to have to leave it there for 10 days and that makes me want to break out in hives. I asked her even more questions about other projects I was thinking about and she gave me many good solutions. I have known Dave at Dublin Seeing Center for 30 years. I have a 20 year old machine and wanted to update. I had no idea of all the new technology. He sat with me and showed me how to use a serger, then I wanted an under 2,000 machine and he only showed me in my price range and did not try to upsell me. After realizing how many choices I had, I decided to do research,they gave me model numbers and I checked everything out. For 3 weeks I came in the store and Tony listened to my needs in a machine and patiently sewed on machines and told me differences. We sat and talked and I finally made my choice. I went to classes for both machines free of charge. I continue to ask questions and all the employees help me or go find the answer if they don't know.
