New Year's Eve Dinner for a couple of newlyweds. Ambiance is a 5, the restaurant is beautiful. Service was just fine. The server was friendly but did not come to check in on us after any of our courses were delivered; we had 3 courses. Drinks: "Cabana Kid" mocktail- as a non drinker I was excited for this because blood orange and vanilla pair so well together. Unfortunately, It tasted like a cup of syrup, I had to send it back and got a N/A beer in its place. First course, appetizers: Squash Soup - unable to be split for 2 guests, which is understandable but not great customer service. I understand maintaining the presentation and consistency of the dish, but the presentation was simply soup in a bowl. Sharing a soup from one bowl is not ideal. Whipped ricotta - the best dish of the night, but the focaccia that was served with it was stale. Second course, pasta: Duck pappardelle - needed salt and I expected much more flavor from duck that is cooked in its own fat. There was also no visible mushroom in the dish, the hen of the woods was completely missing. Agnolotti- the pasta was thick and dry, needed to be cut with a knife, proper agnolotti should be very delicate. The stuffing flavor was far too bold for the light cacio pepe sauce. Final course: Short rib- the portion was tiny, the meat was unseasoned and the sauce was broken. I hate to say it, but this dish is disrespectful at $48. Dessert: Didn't want to trust it and drove to Insomnia Cookies instead. Final thoughts: While the menu looked promising and I had very high hopes, the delivery was poor. There are many regions represented on the menu, yet there is no fusion of them amongst the dishes. Having sushi, pizza, pasta and French as stand alone dishes creates confusion and a lack of identity. There were some highlights to the meal, but they were completely overshadowed by the faults and that is why none are mentioned. I am sure this place will succeed due to its location and ambiance, but I won't be going back to have a meal, nor will I recommend it. It was our first time eating at Drift. Michelle was our server snd was excellent. She was very attentive, especially since i almost spilled the mignonette sauce. As soon as it happened, Michelle was there to fix the spoon. Our water glasses never went below 1/2 full. For appetizer we had east coast oysters and octopus. My husband had the ny strip steak with mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I had the miso glazed sea bass with sesame bok choy. I was hesitant to get this because i'm not a big fan of bok choy. I had high expectations for Drift, especially since the space was once home to a Weehawken legacy (IYKYK). My first experience here was a birthday dinner courtesy of my best friend and she knows how to treat people - so we truly dined from soup to nuts. The place is beautifully decorated, with an eclectic selection of table styles ranging from bar high tops to traditional seated tables - although, I'm not quite sure what the theming is suppose to be. They obviously chose the decor with purpose, from the mosaic walls to the warm lighting and mahogany-wood touches. We arrived a few minutes late for our reservation and the restaurant - save for the bar - was dead. When we checked in, however, the hostess made us wait a few minutes which was a little off putting. In any event, we were able to wait by the bar and it was packed - in fact, it was standing room only. (Maybe the bar is where it's at here.) They offer a lot of fun, seasonal cocktails with cutesy names and interesting ingredients like blood orange and elderflower. When we finally sat down, our server promptly came over - I believe his name was Anderson, and he was truly excellent. He was just the right amount of helpful and courteous and wasn't overbearing, which is a tough balance to keep. The menu - in my opinion - is a little small. It is also priced on the high side - and I get it, you're paying for the location here. However, the food should be spectacular for the price and I can truthfully say it wasn't. I don't mind paying for good food, but this was not it. Some things were very tasty, but I wanted to LOVE everything. It could have been the items we chose, but again for the price they are charging, everything on the menu should hit. We started with the whipped ricotta and chopped autumn salad. The salad was actually delicious, but the portion was definitely meant for one and not shareable, as it came on a small appetizer size plate. The ricotta itself was delicious - it has a lovely smooth texture and the maple was a excellent addition - but the focaccia was just passable (although perhaps I'm bias, as I will admit I make a mean focaccia). But the true kicker here is we paid 23 dollars for bread and cheese - the profit margin seems through the roof on this. For entrees, I opted for the skirt steak (which came described as having 'crispy potato jenga') and chimichurri and my friend had the filet - which, for a exorbitant price tag of 62 dollars - was serve a-la-cart, so she grabbed a side of the mashed potato puree. My steak itself was truly excellent - apparently, it was marinated in brown butter and coffee overnight, and it resulted in an extremely tender and rich cut of beef unlike I've ever experienced before. Truth be told, the chimichurri sauce (which is heavily cilantro and vinegar based) did not pair with the warm, decadent flavor profile at all, and almost seems like a waste to even serve with it. In addition, the 'crispy potato jenga' turned out to be six (yep, six - because I counted) half-cut, undersalted steak fries - aka, just a menu gimmick. My friend's filet did just not appeal to her - while she didn't say anything specific, she just wasn't blown away by the flavor. (And also, how costly would it be to dollop a scoop of mashed potatoes on to the plate to say it comes with a side? Although, that might not be the move because the potato puree had no flavor whatsoever, and IMO it's really tough to screw up mashed potatoes.) Let's move on to dessert. I opted for the bread pudding to split - while it was described as 'apple and pear,' I don't think I came across any fruit whatsoever. The caramel sauce the waiter poured on was the best part. It was a fine dessert but again, if you're spending 15 dollars for bread pudding (which is literally made up of one the cheapest food materials on the market), I want my mind to be blown. Ultimately, Drift has a lot of potential to be an excellent spot with some tweaks, specifically to the value of the food. A restaurant like this needs to be sustainable in order to keep up with the cost of the real estate, and I don't see this happening. While high quality, the taste of the food does not justify the cost. Drift may serve Wagyu beef, but if the dish itself doesn't impress anyone, the customer is going to leave feeling disappointed. In addition, how much does it cost to put some kind of potato side with the filet? Or to make true, genuine hand cut fries instead of the hokey labeled 'crispy jenga'? Things like that can only get a business so far, and Drift may want to reevaluate the food experience they are giving to the customer. read more

Drift is a beautiful restaurant with great views, impeccable service, and served very good food. For appetizers we had the Autumn Soup which was OUTSTANDING and the ricotta served focaccia. The focaccia was good, but I had much better focaccia bread at other restaurants. The ricotta it was served with was very good. For entrees we had the acorn squash agnolotti and the Alaskan King crab gnocchi. The acorn squash agnolotti was FANTASTIC! The Alaskan King crab gnocchi wasn't good! The gnocchis were very small and not pillowy soft. They weren't tasty and neither was the sauce it came in. For desserts we had the bread pudding and the coconut rice pudding. Both desserts were good with the bread pudding being slightly better. I didn't care much for the dessert menu and there were no chocolate options. Desserts were good, but nothing I'd order again. We would definitely come back and try some more dishes. I recommend dining at Drift in Weehawken! read more

Went for a brunch on Saturday and we were the only ones in the restaurant, but it still took over 2 hours for apps, lunch and dessert. There were only 9 and many people working there but the service was super slow and food semi cold. I don't think they are used to serving a large table. The food presentation could use some work. Very disappointed in the food quality and temperature. Lobster Benedict was serves not with a poached egg but almost hard boiled with soggy English muffin. The avocado toast also was served on soggy bread. The location and decor is beautiful but they have some work to improve upon on the kitchen. Valet parking is also $15 alittle insane. Probably not going back but rooting for improvements and success as we need good restaurants in the area. read more

Stopped by here for the first time after work! I've seen the sign for the opening for some time now so I was excited to stop by. We tried out happy hour and let me tell you, the bar fills up extremely fast. They open at 5 and almost every seat was occupied by 5:10. Luckily, we were one of the first ones. The drinks were all really good and we tried the flatbread, ricotta, and bao buns. My favorite was the flatbread. The ricotta was a little sweet for my liking. Drift opened in recent months in Weehawken, and thus far, it's been worth the wait and then some. We first tried it out via takeout, and it was fantastic. This thus encouraged us to try in-person, and it was even better. We tried the croquettes and a special fig & prosciutto flatbread , which were great. For entrees, my husband went with the skirt steak, while I chose the sea bass. Both were exquisite. Our server, Andy, was awesome, and the place's decor is unmatched. I couldn't believe they served it with a straight face. The manager was kind enough to remove it from our bill. 3. Three stars only for the atmosphere. Flatbread was good. - Valet parking is $15 - they support both restaurants and it tooks them a while to get the car. - Menu has a decent number of options. - Server was great but was a bit MIA at the end. - If you have a kid, there is no kid's menu. They have kid's cups. High chairs are for normal height tables. Which is fine. And while there is family bathroom, there is no changing table - so we had to scurry out of there. Asked the front of the house about this on the way out and I felt their answer was "oh yeah? Too bad". One tall guy said they ordered one, without looking up. - They seem to be really busy/fully booked so make a reservation. Although the tables looked roughly half empty when we left around 7ish on a Friday. They let us walk in and we sat next to the bar. - They opened a few days ago and need to work out the kinks so we probably won't be back for a while. - If I were to compare the vibe with Faubourg and Blu, I think both of those feel more welcoming with a younger kid. First off, l must say that the ambiance and decor in the restaurant are exceptional. We sat at the revolving booth and that added an interesting element to what was an otherwise lackluster meal. There are a number of regional foods represented on the menu, but although that provides for a range of options it also does not reflect a clear identity for Drift when it comes to cuisine. That aside, our biggest criticism was how slow the service was tonight. We went in with high hopes but found ourselves waiting some time for each course to come out. I know good food takes time and perhaps if they were busier it would have made more sense but I do not believe the food we received warranted the kind of time it took to receive our meals. When we arrived there were only 3 other tables occupied in a what is a fairly large restaurant and there were waiters standing near the door. Unless they were shorthanded in the kitchen, we had difficulty understanding the wait. It would have helped if we were checked in on to let us know that the food was coming or to let us know that things were delayed but that did not happen. In spite of all that, I would have been fine until the interaction we had at the very end. The one thing that put my rating at a 2 star level was our experience with the dessert. We waited some time for our dessert which was surprising despite the long wait times for the appetizers and entrees because well - it's dessert. We had not ordered the souffle that the menu clearly stated would take 25 minutes to prepare because we had already been there so long and could not bear to wait any longer. My son simply ordered a vanilla gelato that he was excited about and after waiting for over 20 minutes, the waitress finally came and apologized to say that they were out of vanilla gelato. I feel like that is something we could have been told sooner. It would have given us the opportunity to change the order to something else. Instead, they tried to substitute it for something else we had ordered, but he was already disappointed at that stage. That experience was the final nail in the coffin. My son sat there disappointed and we were left with a bad taste in our mouths. I would be remiss if I did not mention that it was my wife's birthday dinner and although we noted it in the reservation, there was no mention by the server. At first I thought that dessert was taking longer because they had something planned but it ended up being an on brand delay for the establishment that evening. At one point my wife turned to me and said that she thought they forgot about us. In short - they have a great location with a great view and ambiance, but if you do not have the service to back it up, then it's just window dressing. I understand that sometimes restaurants are short handed and there are newer staff working, but as patrons - we made the 30 minute drive on a Friday night, paid the $20 to valet our car, arrived with high hopes and left deflated for what was not a small bill. We had ordered drinks for what we expected to be a fun and celebratory affair. If this was a chain restaurant like a Chili's, it would not have bothered us as much but when you pay a premium, you expect more. My wife and I frequent restaurants and have eaten at everything from "hole in the walls" to Michelin star restaurants. I like to think that we are patient and understanding as we have experienced a lot in a number of different settings. But I can tell you that the Michelin star restaurants certainly do not make you feel like an afterthought and neither did the "hole in the walls". Yet we felt like one tonight. If you are looking for a nice view and well decorated restaurant, this is a great option but if you also want good service where you are checked in on and shorter wait times between meals, I suggest you dine elsewhere. Party of two reserved a table for the NYE pre fixed menu priced at $150PP (Tax/gratuity not included). The restaurant offered valet parking at an additional cost of $15. Due to the rain this was a helpful. We were seated by a large window with a view of NYC next to a side door that kept being opened by other restaurants goings in an attempt to enter back into the restaurant without using the main entrance. I had to ask the host to lock the doors due to the cold air that hitting directly to our table. Our waiters greeted us and explained the menu but was not attentive thereafter when we were ready to order making our wait to place an order 30 min + to order. The pre fixed menu was very limited and did not have good options. The better options were offered as add on for additional $$. We ordered two crab Louie's for an addition $15 each on top of the pre fix $150 per person as an appetizer choice. The chef gave us two potatoes balls as an additional appetizer on the house. Those were tasty as well as our crab Louie's despite the very small portion size. We ordered drinks from there menus which cost $18 per specialty drink. The drinks were delicious and well made. We had the octopus as our second dish which had pork inside. We were a lil surprised due to it not being disclosed in the description because we both don't eat pork or beef. Our entree choices were chicken and bass fish dish that neither of us finished due to the lack of flavor and gaminess of the fish. At the end of the night our bill was $515. To be very honest our experience at this restaurant was not the best. We both left very disappointed at the quantity of food served, the waiter not being attentive and the overall quality of the restaurant to host a NYE dinner. Sadly we will not return or recommend. Went yesterday for mother's day. On a positive note the restaurant is beautiful. The food was just ok and all dishes needed to be hotter. Did I mention there was a plastic shard in the ceasar salad??? The biggest problem was the service. I can honestly say I've never had worse. People at tables near us were walking out because nobody was waiting on them.Finally after 45 minutes a server Michelle came to the rescue. She seemed to be the only one that knew what was going on. First, wow the place is beautiful and pricey so my expectations were very high. I went for lunch on a weekday and ordered the Drift Burger medium rare with an iced tea (which I didn't see on the menu.) When the burger arrived I was incredibly underwhelmed. It seemed small, like the size of a McDonalds Quarter Pounder but with a handful of shredded lettuce on top and the fries were in a smallish metal cup that just looked unimpressive. Not a good start. The burger was well done and not medium rare and the fries were meh. I've had much, much better burgers at most diners. Again for $26 you would expect much, much more. The waitress came around and asked me if I wanted another iced tea. I thought maybe it was a refill so sure. The bill comes and those iced teas which were in a smallish glass were $8 a piece! INSANE. I waited at least 20 minutes for the waitress to come around with the bill and he bill with tip was $54 dollars for a very disappointing meal lunch. I would not recommend this place. read more

Was really excited to try this place however after being seated and while looking at the menu we saw a MOUSE in the dining area no more than 10ft from our table.
