I usually love Drift and have been to the other locations in Wilmington, but not sure this is a great location. I placed a to-go order, and I arrived to pick it up at the time it was supposed to be ready. Only part of my order was on the shelf ready, so I waited a couple minutes. Then I asked the blonde girl at the hostess stand, and she rudely told me to go ask at the counter behind her. Not good customer service for the person who greets people. I would have expected her to go find out and let me know, or at least be pleasant. The French toast was a nice, thick piece of bread and would have been delicious, but it was not fully cooked. Super cute vibes! Make sure to get on the waitlist about 45 minutes before though. (This could be bc we went for lunch on a Saturday) I got a breakfast sandwich - it comes on a brioche bun with egg, bacon, arugula, and tomato aioli. I got the breakfast burrito which was fantastic, I appreciated the mix of flavors. I had an iced coffee with coconut milk foam which was amazing. I liked the outdoor seating area. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because the service was really slow. I also asked for the burrito to be brought as a bowl, which I think was a neat option, but they got the order wrong and brought it wrapped in a tortilla. This was my first time at a drift cafe. When we first arrived, the place was packed! We were told there would be a 20 minute wait, and then, after asking about some bar stools that were open, were seated there immediately. Our waitress came quickly to get our drink order and then our food order. My friend and I both got iced lattes. The espresso they use has a bit of a sour taste to it, which was not my favorite, but some people might enjoy! After the initial order, nothing was quick. Our waitress did not come to check on us and our food came out 50 minutes after we ordered. I understand that they were busy, but the restaurant is fairly small and they seemed well staffed. Our food was great. There were a few things we kindly asked for that were forgotten, though. My market grain bowl seemed like a small portion at first, but I promise it will fill you up! We were told there would be a 30-minute wait for breakfast, but we ended up waiting 50 minutes to be seated. After that, it took another 50 minutes for our food to arrive--a pancake, an extremely bad, mushy egg sandwich, and a burger. The manager was incredibly rude and unprofessional, constantly cutting us off and not letting us voice our concerns. His only explanation was that they had two cooks and we should have been informed that the wait would be longer. Instead of helping us deal with the situation, he made it even worse. Terrible experience. Waited close to 10 minutes to be greeted at the host stand despite there not being anyone in front of us and the restaurant not being particularly busy. After being seated we were brought dirty glassware and a bottle of water that looked so grimy my kids would not drink it. Ordered our food and waited 45 minutes for 2 of our 4 orders to show up. After another 20 minutes our other two orders still had not shown up, which, by the way, were salads!!!! We got up and left. We will not be returning there. The service was terrible and we were offered no explanation for our wait other than... wait for it... "Oh! We had to cook the chicken." I do not recommend eating at this location. read more

I have consistently ordered at Drift, but am left unhappy after my most recent visit. For background, I order breakfast nearly every morning on my way to work. Like I've done a few time before, having a few minutes to spare, I asked to dine in. However, to my surprise, I was told by an employee that I could not. The dining area was not busy or full, so I was not following why we weren't allowed the experience. It seems very odd, especially since there was no solid reasoning. I had breakfast at the Raleigh location Saturday morning, around 8:30. I had the crispy potato brekkie with mushrooms and my companion had the eggs on toast. In addition, I had the espresso martini and he had the Russian cold brew. We both found the menu to be thoughtfully constructed and the food to be very well executed. The eggs on both dishes were cooked perfectly - not a small task in my experience. We both felt the mushrooms made a fantastic addition as well. The drinks were good as well, especially the martini. Our server was attentive and efficient. We did not encounter the noise issues others experienced, however it was quite early, so I can't speak to that. Overall this was a very good experience. I had to sit outside cause it was a really long wait which was fine cause it was sunny. No mimosas. I was going to order a to go order for my husband at home and the waitress seemed uninviting to the idea she would have to put in another order and the kitchen was very backed up and I would be waiting a VERY long time and one of the chefs just quit and walked out.. so I said forget it .. which I was really looked forward for him to taste it since he has not ever been there.
