The Ginger Chicken Broth ($3.50) is fantastically flavorful and comforting. It's packed full of kale and seasoned with cilantro, fried shallots, black pepper and plenty of lime juice that offers a delicous amount of acidity and freshness. Eating it makes me feel better, whether I'm sick or not. Duly note that this does NOT come with chicken pieces, so order this more as an appetizer. Their Thai Iced Tea ($5) is also good. This is a tiny shop with just a few window-front stools inside for seating. There are more tables outside on the sidewalk and in a parklet, but no shade. No bathroom available. Always friendly service.

Stopped by this lowkey spot for a quick Saturday lunch and it was fantastic. The shop is super small, with a counter to order and a few seats to eat inside. They do have a parklet outside w more tables though. We ordered the following: - pork banh mi: this was SO GOOD. Bread was crispy and fluffy, and the inside was packed with layers of pork. The fattiness of the pork added lots of flavor and pairs well with the carrots and leaves. Also came warm - pop combo: had a variety of different cold cut meats so it was a nice contrast to the pork banh mi. The bread and vegetables were good but it was cold and I personally preferred the pork banh mi more - soup: just ordered this for something warm but this was surprisingly underrated and very refreshing. The kale was really good and paired well with the fried shallots and cilantro. Lowkey I'd go back just for this One of the more affordable places I've been to -- sandwiches were about $12 and had huge portion sizes. There are lots of locations scattered throughout the city so definitely will be coming back for a quick bite in the future

Awesome Vietnamese bunn mi sandwich restaurant located in the Hayes valley City Hall area. The store looks like a commercial catering kitchen warehouse for takeout only. Luckily there is outdoor seating. I had tboth he meatball bunn miI and the shredded duck bunn mi. Both were delicious and worth the hype on Instagram. My doggie gives this place 4 paws up

I enjoyed my Tofu Teriyaki Banh Mi sandwich but had to order it 2x. When I first ordered, I asked about a bathroom - not only do they not have a bathroom, but bro couldn't even suggest anywhere I could try. Not cool. I had to tell him nevermind in case I had to buy food from another restaurant in order to use their facilities. Ultimately I found a place nearby and came back to DragonEats to order (again). I enjoyed my sandwich on their cute exclusive patio bar seating across the sidewalk from the restaurant. It was closing time but the same guy let me finish in peace before he took the stools to lock up. Good place but they need to identify a bathroom strategy to advise their customers.

A small spot by Civic Center that has casual Vietnamese eats -- I stopped by for a quick snack and there was no one else around. Got the fresh rolls which were so-so - appreciated that they were generous with the shrimp but the sauce was not as peanut-y and scrumptious as other Viet places. They are fast with service, but there's not really any seating. Would try the Banh Mi in the future.

Found this gem walking around Haight. Ordered the roasted duck banh mi and Pop combination banh mi. Both were delicious! Bread was crusty and not too hard, the meats were cooked perfectly and the pickled daikon and jalapeños tied it all together. Paired well with a Thai iced tea. So happy we found this place for lunch. Quick order and service.

Fast casual bahn mi place with deliciously savory sandwiches. They had duck bahn mi! It was juicy and packed full of flavor - would definitely recommend. My friend got the roasted pork, and it was stuffed full of meat! Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area

This quiet, cute place is just around the corner from my workplace, and I'm glad I got there before a line started to form. Hehe, I grabbed the combo banh mi to go since they're only offering takeout for now. The wait for the sandwich was short, and it had a great amount of meat and veggies--really delicious. I'd definitely go back to try their other dishes too!

Yummy semi hole-in-the-wall place! Great banh mi that can be made vegan. The tofu was delicious and seasoned well. Service was quick and efficient. To make the banh mi vegan they omitted the mayo but I do think it would taste even better with some sort of vegan mayo option.

I just ordered a sandwich from this place to go. It is a great place with great food and the service was very friendly and the ambiance is unique for take out place . The five spice chicken sandwiches perfectly made and spicy. I highly recommend this place. 4 stars

    Cold cut combination sandwich
    Nick C.

Decent. I ordered the cold cuts combination sandwich. Bread was not particularly fresh, but that might be because I came at the end of the day. The other main problem was insufficient mayo, so the sandwich was too dry. Meat was good. Carrots and radishes and cucumbers were good too. Could've done with more herbs, and of course switching out the jalapeño peppers for more authentic birdseye chilli peppers. At $12, expensive for a banh mi but still cheaper than almost anything else, so it is what it is. The inside of the place is a rather dishevelled mess, and the outside parklet is grimy.

Props for the parking lot right next to this place. I came here to grab a quick bite to eat. I noticed the menu was not your typical Vietnamese sandwich spot where they offer the cold meat options, but hey I'll still always find what I like. I wanted to try their duck sandwich since that was something unique that I've never seen at other sandwich spots, but sadly they ran out of duck. I ordered the roasted pork and everything about this sandwich was just ok. It is the city so prices are inflated to accommodate the location. It was good but nothing special. Staff were friendly and there is a small counter with a stool for you to sit down and eat if you wanted to. If you're in the area and need a quick bite to eat and you want a banh mi, this place will do.

Overcooked and bit tough, and chewy would not get them again. Ask for extra napkins up front since you do end up eating with your hands most of it.

My boyfriend got the Charbroiled beef with garlic noodles and imperial rolls (#24) with an extra order of beef. Our meal was super filling and balanced! They don't skimp out on either the noodles or the protein (definitely could have done without the extra beef we ordered). The chicken was juicy but the skin stayed crispy. The charbroiled beef had the smallest hint of sweetness for me. The noodles had a nice chew to them, and were dry but in the best way possible. A lot of garlic noodles tend to be too oily and leave an unpleasant lingering mouthfeel, but that wasn't the case here. The noodles could have used more garlic for my preference, but I think it was well balanced with the flavorful protein and fish sauce. The imperial rolls were okay and a nice crunchy side. I wouldn't get them as a separate appetizer, but only $1 more to add to your dish is unbeatable. Overall a great experience and I'd definitely bring some friends here for a comforting meal.

This older man walks around very ambitious with his little credit card terminal ready to charge anyone who is anyone. He gives no receipt. He is the owner and the waiter. But he does not give any service and just expects tip. All he does is walk around and collect money & does the very minimum. I've given this place multiple chances over the years, but unfortunately each experience has been uncomfortable in one way or another. The first time was around 2022. My family and I arrived about 30 minutes before closing, and the owner told us he would still serve us. After seating us, though, he immediately pressured us to order quickly and told us we had to eat fast because they were closing. I was with my elderly relatives too so just turn us away? If that was the case, it would've been better to simply not seat us. Don't be greedy just bc you want a few bucks. Another time, my husband called to order Hanoi-style pho to go, and the owner responded with unnecessary attitude, saying that's the only kind they serve. LOL, ok. The interaction felt rude for no reason. Most recently, we came on Mother's Day. The dishwasher/staff member was also unfriendly. The bun cha was decent according to my mom, and my husband said the beef stew noodle dish was okay, but my pho lacked flavor entirely. I wasn't expecting it to compare to pho in Vietnam or even San Jose, but it tasted very bland so I didn't finish it. The service from the owner continues to be the biggest issue. When we paid, he stood over us while I counted cash, so I felt pressure to count fast and add tip quickly. He left then came back a few seconds later then quickly grabbed the money without even asking whether I needed change and disappeared faster than the wind. The whole interaction felt awkward and pushy. He has a very strange personality. He's honestly very sleazy and has bad energy After several experiences like this, we won't be returning.
