Was in the area at the hospital nearby and wasn't sure what would be happening for the evening so stopped in for basically linner at 15:30 because I'm not from here and didn't want to be waking around too late in the evening. The cashier was very friendly, welcoming me with recommendations before I even said anything beyond that it was my first time here and that I had found them off Yelp. In truth I already knew what I wanted before I began walking over and ordered the classic bánh mì with no jalapeños. I asked for it cut in half and he said they cut all their sandwiches in half, which is nice. I asked about the lychee black tea but it's unsweetened so went with Thai iced tea, worried it would be too sweet but it came out pretty unsweet, which my son would hate, but is fine for me. It's chill vibes and spacious with plenty of clean seating. Ordered with side of sweet potato fries and ketchup instead of sriracha. The fries were just okay, but at least they came out hot, though not super hot like it was fresh out. A bit on the hard side in some parts. Wherever I go that has bánh mì i always get the đặc biệt which is basically the classic. They do sliced cucumber instead of stalks. Bread is more deli style and there's barely any daikon, just carrots and some red onion which is not in a typical Vietnamese bánh mì. Unfortunately daikon is what makes it for me when i get a banh mi. I asked for no jalapeño but the sandwich has some kick to it because they added some kind of creamy sriracha though not enough to ruin it for me. I also really enjoyed the side of shrimp chips which is very unique when it comes to sides. I decided to pair it with a lychee black tea and....yeah, skip this one. There was a single lychee in the bottom, but there was nary a hint of lychee flavor in the tea otherwise. Boyfriend went with the jook which was packed with chicken and ginger flavor. In my opinion, it needs more pickled red onions to cut through the heaviness. However, it was still tasty to consume right away. Asian cubano- This was so good! The ciabatta bread was toasty with a nice crunch to it. The meat was tasty on its own but the cilantro pesto really does elevate each bite. I loved the house pickles and dijon which added a nice acidic punchy flavor. Textures and flavors were on point. Each sandwich is about $18 but it does come with a side of shrimp chips or house salad. I personally think the two sandwiches we ordered were worth the $18 because they really didn't skimp on meat and each bite was so flavorful. Shrimp chips were tasty too and not a lot of sandwich cafes offer shrimp chips as a side dish so I thought this touch was really unique.
