I started with the Burmese Beef Curry with Potatoes. It reminded me of an Indonesian and Thailand dish I had but this dish had more potatoes . Ordered from here and regretted it. I ordered the mango chicken, fiery tofu, and pad thai. I specifically requested everything spicy. Literally nothing was spicy. The mango chicken barely tasted of anything at all. The fiery tofu was made with an especially firm tofu, so it had about the same texture and flavour as chewing salty crayons. Glad to have stopped by for a quick lunch. We tried the garlic noodles and the pork and potato curry with jasmine rice. The food was quite tasty, and the service was very attentive and warm. The restaurant itself is a bit hidden on the block but nice inside with a number of small tables available. We were able to find street parking quite easily on a quiet Saturday though it looked like on other days it might be more challenging. I've had better Burmese food. We walked here on a Sunday afternoon so didn't have to deal with parking but it can be challenging around the area. I thought garlic noodles would be more or less the same but this place really surprised me. The this dish felt less "heavy" and seemed light by comparison to other carb loaded dishes. I had the garlic noodles with tofu and it was tasty. The flavor was surprisingly unique and I felt the garlic flavor wasn't ok overbearing. Decided to try this place with a friend one day since it popped out on Yelp as nearby and decently priced. Pretty easy to find and there were tables outside. When going inside, it reminded me of small mom-and-pop college restaurants, but clean and well-maintained. Water was provided in with a slice of lemon. I think I ended up getting a Chili Beef, and also asked the staff for their hot sauce for good measure. The chili beef was good and the hot sauce was perfect as I lightly sweating after the hot sauce kicked in. New Burma (also listed as Burma Grub some places) is my second favorite Burmese restaurant in San Francisco. I love their tea leaf salad and samusa soup as starters. I've had about half of their entrees and none have disappointed, but my favorite entree is the Burmese lamb with potatoes. Unfortunately many times I've been told after asking for it that they are out of lamb. That's really the only reason I'm ranking this place four instead of five stars -- it's just odd to frequently be out of an ingredient that's listed in several menu items, and one time my dining companions received their dishes and were nearly done eating them by the time the server told me mine wasn't made because they had no lamb. That's the only occasion where the service didn't meet expectations here, though, so I'm not factoring that into my rating. Tip: You might need to approach the register to pay if you're in a hurry to leave after you finish eating because this place gets a lot of to-go orders and the wait person has to manage those as well as the people dining in the restaurant. read more
