Saturday night dinner before the ballet did not go off as planned. Firstly, let's start with the appetizers. For our appetizers we had garlic spareribs (quite yummy) and garlic frog legs. The frog legs had great flavor but too dry and stringy. Dinner was a disaster. My daughter had crab pad thai and my granddaughter had chicken pad thai. For both dishes the noodles were undercooked and chewy. The crab pad thai had both me and my daughter sick for 2 days. My son in law had beef pad kee mow which was excellent. That dish was cooked to perfection. I had boar classic chili paste. Great flavor but the boar was so sinewy you couldn't chew it. The rice was normal. My granddaughter ordered the fried bananas dessert and she raved about it. The service was exceptional and the plating was superior. Too bad the majority of food was inedible. Lers Ros has become a comfort restaurant for me now. I come here a lot after playing tennis, and the food is always reliable solid. My favorite dishes: * Thai curry puff -- new favorite appetizer, like a small flaky empanada filled with Thai curry. Great flavor * Cashew chicken stir fry -- using nuts in a stir fry is always a great idea, and their sauce is gingery and yummy. * Pad Thai -- reliably good with substantial portion size * Pad Kee Mao -- not overly spicy, great bouncy noodles and bold sauce The quality of ingredients is probably not the best (occasionally the chicken is too... chicken-y) but I usually come here for the volume and flavor, not the pristineness. It's a nice restaurant with white tablecloths and kind servers, and the menu is rather extensive. The waitstaff were very attentive and refilled our waters often. I got the Pad See Ew with Chicken. I opted to order from the list of lunch specials and chose the Cashew Nut Chicken and a Vegetarian red curry with tofu along with white rice. The red curry had a slight kick to it, but seemed a bit watery. I thought the cashew nut chicken was better than expected, as the chicken was seasoned and not bland like I anticipated. The lunch specials include a small salad as well. I was surprised by the portion size for the lunch entree and enjoyed both the red curry and cashew nut chicken. Both dishes were flavorful and I was happy with the portion sizes and had a good amount of leftovers to take home. Also, ordered a Thai iced tea, which was tasty but had a little too much ice. I think next time I'll try to ask for less ice, but it was a refreshing beverage and paired well with my lunch entree. I've been here twice now and the first time was great. The service both times was also great. This review is for my second visit and for the food I ordered. I got the shrimp pad thai. The shrimp was fine. Kind of plain tasting but, ok. The pad thai however, was more like pad thai soup that was really tangy. The texture of it all turned me off and I could barely eat any of it. It really was like eating spaghetti with a thick sauce. My friend got the green curry and his looked really tasty. Now I know they are not good at pad thai. We had a 6 pm reservation and were seated right away at a window table. We ordered drinks and appetizers - chicken satay, Thai curry puff and Thai herb sausage. Our entrées were pad see ewe, chicken spinach in peanut sauce, and seafood poh-tak soup. Food arrived quickly and was served with a smile. I enjoyed the chicken satay the most, followed by the chicken spinach in peanut sauce over white rice. The sausage was good too but a bit too spicy. In terms is the cuisine, this is by far one of the best Thai places where I've dined. Start with the chicken skewers. For main course I highly recommend the spicy pork and red curry. Flavor is so rich with excellent portions. The spicy pork is mild spicy with an extra kick if you consume the actual peppers. Cool it off with a Thai iced tea. As for the red curry, it has a very rich coconut milk flavor, and is loaded with meat and vegetables. Both are excellent with rice. I don't know but we've had it twice now (because I forgot which place was good pad Thai bad pad see yew and vice verse) and both times even my garbage disposal husband couldn't finish it. Fried rice is GOOD- not the basil fried rice that I can't seem to find anywhere in SF but less like mall food court than some others. Green curry was fine but red curry was GOOD.
