Amazing food & drinks! Haven't been in a while and recently got some takeouts from What The Cluck - Haight. Everything was delicious. The Classic Khao Man Gai is always a winner. The Crispy Chicken (Khao Man Gai Tot) was surprisingly good also. Tasted like a chicken katsu and goes so well with the garlic rice. We also indulged in mango with sweet sticky rice which is something I hardly ordered but it was delicious, too. The veggie spring rolls were crispy and the Thai iced tea quite nice. I have hungry kids to feed and I order a head of time so they don't have to wait in the car after I pick them up from school hangry. I ordered 30min ago and now I'm sitting here waiting for the one guy in here to make it for me. Seriously. The order was literally sitting on the machine when I walked in and he hadn't seen it until I asked for it. The guy who prepped the food was only wearing one glove but handling food with both hands. The containers they used for soup are paper and spilled all over the trunk of my car when it tipped over. My soup had a fly in it. I'm never coming back to this place. What a disaster of cheap service, cheap containers and apparently lack of proper food preparation. For the Asians, the soup with rice only came with dry chicken breast. I gave it to my husband. Holy f*ck, horrible experience all around. Placed an order on the personal website, I got a pending charge from my cc. I recalled the "confirmation" page said the order needed to b confirmed by the restaurant. Guess the restaurant never confirmed the order because the worker didn't have anything come in. Not only did he have a IDGAF attitude, no hi, bye, thank you, or even tried to help me find my order. Could be a language or culture barrier, idk but he really didn't care lol. I place the order again, $60 for a family meal. My kids eat 2 rice in the car. I take out 1 platter of chicken to eat with them. Clearly since it was a family meal there should have been 2 platters? 2 people's worth of chicken per platter?? Nope. There was only 1 platter to feed 4 people. The chicken was sitting on top of a pile of spinach to make it look full. What a complete rip off. I was better off buying 4 individual meals. Never again. How are you going to say you're open until 8pm but close at 7pm?.. They don't pick up their phones, their website to order online doesn't work to pick up order. Their entire operation is an embarrassment. Their food is mid. The owner should reconsider running the show because he clearly wasn't able to manage both Geary and Haight. My wife and I went here and it was a really weird and uncomfortable experience. When we ordered, I recall we used a kiosk and it asked 'to go' or 'for here'. The one person in the store then walked out and asked us aggressively if it was for here or to go. It was startling and I had thought I had entered that information when we used the kiosk but I double checked with my wife that we'd eat there. She was confused and asked me 'why would he speak this way to you?' I said I didn't know. He began banging items very loudly and aggressively while making the food. I have a really hard time believing this was not an act of aggression rather than a necessity of cooking rice and chicken. We got the food, it came with two broths. My wife is vegan so I checked and asked him which was chicken and which was vegetarian. He ignored me. I asked again and he threw them in the trash then left into the back of the restaurant. I have a feeling this person is suffering somehow in life and that's why they are behaving so aggressively. If I was here eating alone I would let it go, but it made my wife really uncomfortable and when he did throw our broth in the trash and left I was left confused as to what happened and why. The send basically two orders worth of chicken. And then four rice and four soups, as if that'll fill up 5 people. I think the thing that pissed me off the most, was how they made it look like you got more chicken than you actually get since they stick the chicken on a bunch of uncooked spinach. Im sure they do this because they know what a sad amount of chicken they send, so they need to make it look like they're not ripping you off. I've heard of Rooster and Rice but was interested in trying WTC. After getting some outdoor adventures at some of the beautiful mosaic steps locations in SF, we were hangry. I have ordered from What The Cluck multiple times in the past and have been satisfied with the taste and delivery. Portion size for an individual order usually kept me pretty full for a good few hours. This review is specifically for my experience this time where I ordered the family feast which was $70 without taxes and delivery fee. It was advertised to feed at least 4 people. What I got was really disappointing in portion size though the taste was still excellent. I called the store because I had actually thought they had forgotten to give me some items and they were really nice in answering my question and saying they will escalate my concerns to the manager as they said what was delivered to me was the correct portion. My feedback was to probably not advertise the set as able to feed 4 people because I think the amount of chicken I received was probably only 2 individual boxes worth and thus I would have saved money if I had ordered everything separately and gotten more food. Pictures here is what I got delivered for $70. Just not worth it. Also to advertise this can feed 4 people is very misleading. After a long day of walking around Haight-Ashbury and NoPa and Golden Gate Park, my friend and I were cold and in the mood for something hot and comforting. Comfort food, if you will. We'd been walking around and past What the Cluck. "What the Cluck?" we thought. The interior was bright and open, and the outside looked welcoming (or maybe we were just cold.) Most of all, the name definitely stood out. We ordered inside and there was plenty of hand sanitizer. They also deliver and had a good takeout system. Our food (2 dishes) was ready in maybe 5 minutes? We weren't counting but it was very fast! We both got the classic ($11.95) but I added a poached egg to mine (+$2). Everything was very good--the chicken was moist, fresh, and very tender, even though it came with the skin. The rice was, as expected, my favorite part for some reason? It's so simple, but it's so flavorful and tasty. The broth/soup was so nice on the cold, blustery day. Delicious! I've been to similar restaurants and this one is my favorite! We came on a Saturday and we were able to find parking in front of the restaurant. During Covid, they are doing take out. I ordered inside and my food was ready in less than 10 minutes! This place is the perfect place for when you are looking for comfort food. My husband had the Orginal Chicken Plate $10.95 which comes with rice, chicken, cucumber, chicken broth and a ginger/garlic sauce. I had the Chicken and Rice Soup $10.95. The other place where also sells hainan chicken rice called GAI chicken rice they only use chicken thighs, which I prefer way more and they have a lot more sauces options. But the original sauce here is pretty good and please don't try the sweet soy sauce, tasted like NyQuil. The baby spinach is a surprise since the large amount. I like that. Chicken soup is basic. The fried chicken skin (cluckins) has a lot of hair and sometimes bones...they can really do their job better this is just lazy. I also don't like how it doesn't have any salt or seasoning at all cuz not everyone likes a dip. The dip is just a regular Thai sweet chili sauce. The only thing I prefer this place than GAI is they sells chicken livers, it's healthy for me to eat them and they taste pretty good with the sauce. read more

I was looking for a new spot to try out for brunch and this seemed like on the healthier side of foods. I like to walk in the mornings but this place opened at 11 and Postmates had a $10 off coupon so I decided to do that instead of walking around until they opened. I ordered "The Ultimate" which comes with their ginger rice, skin on chicken, chicken kidney, chicken broth, poached egg, and two sauces. I wanted to try a little of everything so I selected the option to add more chicken for $3. The app only gave me option to choose dark, white or mix of both. I added special instructions asking if the add on chicken could be their chicken katsu if there's no additional cost. To my surprise, they were okay with that and my order came with a tiny, paper bag with chicken katsu on the side of my order. As I was checking out, I saw there were buy one get one free for a few things like Thai tea, their no meat meal, and a few other things I can't quite remember. I'm not sure how long those deals are going on for but I only saw that option when I was placing an order WHILE they were open. I didn't see the option to do that when I was about to schedule ahead for an order when they were closed. The food arrived around my scheduled time and again, I was really happy to see they honored my request for the add on chicken to be katsu, that way I was able to try a little of everything. I liked that the ultimate came with the egg (normally +$2 more) and 2 sauces. I would skip on this if you don't like chicken liver and skin on chicken. I don't mind liver and the skin, I just took off. The only downside to the whole meal was in another picture on yelp, it looked like someone got a good amount of liver but my order only had 3 pieces or so. Besides that, everything was really good. The sauce was really good, although strong. I would recommend just dipping the chicken in the sauce instead of pouring it over everything because it overpowered the flavors of the rice, which was already really good on its own. The chicken was tender and even the white meat did not feel dry. The chicken katsu was a bit cold because of the time it took to pick up and deliver (so I'm sure it's much better in person) but it was still somewhat tender and went well with the sauce as well. I usually choose dark meat over white but the white meat was nice and tender...Good job eat club! I wanted to see what ingredients were in the sauce so I could see if I could copy it since it was sweet and tangy with hints of ginger in it. I noticed it said, "what the cluck" on the box. Googled it and super stoked I got to try this place! It's actually not too far from work too so I can grab lunch if I wanted too.
