Orwell would be proud of this place. After presenting my ID to enter the establishment, the worker grabbed and scanned it into their system without my consent. But this apparently is not enough to enter - you are also required to scan a credit card BEFORE you are even allowed to simply look at the merchandise before purchasing - cash payment is not accepted. None of this is made apparent before my personal information is collected (and possibly stored or sold) without permission. Therefore, in my opinion, this business exists primarily to assimilate data, which gives off an evil, dystopian vibe. We will not return. read more

The original Downtown Spirits was a delight to go to, worth going out of your way to for the selection and customer service. This place is 180 degrees from that. You have to scan a credit card to even look at the selection because it's an Amazon Go store. It is 1984 level surveillance with cameras EVERYWHERE, and a lone employee at the front who merely greets you and perhaps is there to dissuade someone from doing a smash and grab, idk. They too will be out of a job as soon as they figure out how the robot can take over. It is absolutely soulless. read more

This place is unique in that you basically do everything yourself and there is no need to speak to the employees or cashiers. They have a turnstile at the front where you have to use a credit card or Google pay or similar method to enter. You then grab your selections and have to exit next to where you entered. As you exit the system scans what's in your hands and automatically charges it to the credit card you used to enter. I was confused on how to leave and had to ask. The employee at the desk seemed quite uninterested in being overly helpful. As I looked at him confusingly and finally asked the question he then told me to exit and it would charge. He then confirmed it charged me. He didn't offer a receipt or bags. But there were bags on the table in front of him so I proceeded to bag it myself. The new tech is cool but they need a more personable employee to be helpful to people experiencing it for the first time. read more

The place was okay but did not have the brand of Scotch we were looking for (Dewar's, a very widely available brand) and they seemed not to want to give you a receipt for your purchase. The staff person said one would be available online "in a few days." The price for what I bought was similar to the price I pay in suburban Chicago but Washington slaps a 20.5% tax on every bottle. So a $28 purchase became a $36 with state and local taxes added. You have to scan your credit card to get into the place--not sure why but it's not very welcoming. read more

OVERALL: 9.25/10 (Yelp Converted Score: 4.625/5 - rounds up to 5/5). I've been here a handful of times over the years I've lived in Belltown; I've gotta say that this place has become my go-to whenever I want to buy more of whatever beer/wine/spirit that I've newly been introduced to, but don't want to buy / can't find it at a grocery store (or other equivalent place, like BevMo). 1) VARIETY / SELECTION: 9/10. If you come in here looking for X specific item, they might not have it. However, if you're coming in here looking for "a stout/porter/dark ale", then you've come to the right place! In general though, I can also always depend on this establishment to stock the very best of the very best. I have to commend the pickers - one of the best beers I've ever had the pleasure of buying was the Speedway Vietnamese Coffee Stout - my friends still rave about how good that flavour was, and despite being the most expensive 64oz growler I've ever filled, after how good that stout was (for one, it permanently converted me to stouts, to try to find the next best one), I would gladly buy another (15) 64oz growlers to (never) share with my friends. 2) VALUE FOR MONEY: 9/10. The Kizakura Nigori Matcha Sake that I ordered ended up running me $8/bottle (before tax) - normally, this costs $6/bottle on wholesale, and considering that (1) I couldn't find this anywhere else (yes, I've looked), and (2) none of the restaurants or stores that I'd visited before this had a clue of where to source this, I was getting pretty frustrated. One thing that made me sad was the "mystery beer brown bag" ($5 one) - I was afraid of the more expensive one because I saw "peanut butter stout" as a possible option (allergy to peanuts, so that's no bueno), but I ended up getting a duplicate in the $5 bag, which was unfortunate (I was hoping it'd be no dupes, but it is what it is). 3) SERVICE: 10/10. Hats off to "Terry", who responded to my weird sake order request e-mail - "Kizakura Nigori Matcha Sake (300ml) - 12 pack)". The response came within a couple of days, and even though I was OK with it arriving *a week later*, lo and behold, the order I made was at the cashier counter area, and I got an e-mail saying it was ready! This single experience alone has restored my faith in humanity. Hooray! 4) CONSISTENCY: 9/10. Almost every time I've come in here, I've wanted to buy a bunch of stuff. Sometimes, the problem is that I can't find anyone to help me "in the immediate sense" (the stock here for any given item isn't plentiful, but the variety is great); sometimes, I just want a growler fill, but I can't find anyone (womp womp...) One thing's for certain: I can always depend on this place to be open during sane hours (10:00 am - 11:00 pm on Fri/Sat, 10:00 am - 10:00 pm on Mon-Thur, and 11am-7pm on Sunday). read more

Amazing liquor store with a huge collection of beers, wines, and spirits at different price points! I'm not really familiar with all of the different brands and types of liquor so I like how organized this place is and it's really easy to find what you're looking for. I also like that they carry a lot of mixers, simple syrups, and bitters. When I drink it's mostly just cocktails so it's nice that they carry everything you need to make a good mixed drink. read more

I was in Seattle for work and didn't have time to check out any local breweries in person but I did want to have a little memento. Downtown Spirits was the closest liquor store to my hotel so I walked there. Once you're in the front door it's mostly spirits so there's a whole other section for beers/ciders and wines, it's easy to find, a sign points you in the right direction. This section seems huge, I didn't even walk the length of it because the beers are the first thing you see. There were two guys one in front of the counter, one behind just talking. I walked around a little trying to orient myself for about 5 minutes then saw the breweries I had in mind. I was looking though the selection, deciding what I should take home, kind of hemming and hawing. One of the guys left, I assumed both were staff but I guess it was just a buddy. When I basically had made up my mind and picked two 4-packs and bomber in hand was I approached and asked if I needed any help. Their selection was huge and I appreciate that they carry different formats and have a pretty big section devoted to locals but their service was pretty lax. read more

The old store used to be great. The new store has much less inventory with fewer choices and is constantly out of stock. The Amazon Just Walk Out gimmick is terrible. Staff can't check you out on a register, but still sit by the door and ask if you've been in before. I especially love the enticements they put in the window "App no longer required". Holy smokes, shopping here is such a hassle! Saw online they had a couple wines I can't normally find at my local shops so I popped it to grab them and honestly, if I weren't on the hunt for them I would've left empty handed. They have no cashier, they just have a person who sits behind a desk asking if you have shopped here and then tell you about how you have to download their app to shop. To me, this person could easily ring people up but they want to use the amazon grab and go shopping bullsh1t to run the store. I will not be returning in the future as the experience was super annoying. Worst place ever. Cant get in the door without putting your credit card in, then they put a 49.00 hold on your card. Then they didn't even have what I was looking for, I took a bottle of the shelve of something and asked for help. when they said they didn't have Tito's Vokda or Kahlu, in what they call a high end liquor store. I handed the girl the bottle back of some no name vodka she said she couldn't put it back or I would be charged for it. What! not to mention the 32.00 dollar Uber ride to get there and back. Ordered a bottle to be delivered as a surprise for someone - they were not in when the delivery was meant to happen, so the driver said they would leave the bottle with a neighbor. No neighbor has seen this bottle and the store has told me that their drivers will not leave a delivery with anyone else, otherwise it will be returned to the store. Despite a number of attempts to contact the store to resolve this, I have been ignored. I will not be returning. read more

Very nice store with decent inventory. Most difficult place to actually purchase anything as you need to download their app, complete the forms and go through a useless number of checks before you can even enter the store. If you're a tourist, I would highly recommend saving yourself the headache and go elsewhere. There was one specific product I really wanted to purchase, so I suffered for it, but I would have departed in two seconds had this been available anywhere else in a 30 minute radius. Technology isn't working. Took more than 10 min to get the app populated. Then it says free access for a month but that feature didn't work on the app so they have to give you a code. But then after a month you have to pay a subscription fee. We were all looking forward to a liquor store downtown but not a membership one. And can't imagine a tourist wants to sign up for a monthly membership when they are here for just one or two nights. Nice thought but execution is simply to milk more money out by forcing a subscription service. Best to just drive to total wine or Instacart. After the subscription fee it's more expensive than Total Wine (who delivers within two hours). Everyone in the store felt exasperated in trying to download the app and get it to work. read more

I really wanted this place to be a "destination liquor store." I saw some things on their webpage listed as in-stock, and was excited to check it out. But when I made the haul all the way to the store the items were not in-stock and one didn't even have a shelf space. Many empty spots on the shelves, of even widely available liquors. And looking around, outside some rare pricy mezcals, I didn't see much I couldn't get in the liquor dept. of any of the better Seattle supermarkets or the Total Wine in Bellevue (not Northgate). So maybe a online store, but the physical location may or may not have anything listed on the webpage. Don't make the trip without calling as they haven't figured out basic online inventory control. read more

This place is great. I first noticed it back in November, but I figured, "What's the big deal? You can buy alcohol anywhere around here." Tonight, we wanted to pick up a few hard ciders, and I remembered Downtown Spirits had parking so we stopped by there on our way home. They had a few ciders in the front cooler, we were grabbing those when the friendly clerk let us know that they had more ciders downstairs. Downstairs? Yup, it turned out that the store was a lot bigger than you could see upon first entering. Downstairs, we grabbed a few ciders, and their wine expert, Kaitlin (sorry, I know there's a million spellings for Caitlin, so I'm just guessing on this one, Katelin?) told us about a wine tasting they had last night featuring chocolate covered strawberries just in time for Valentine's Day. I'm sorry we missed it, but we're looking forward to the next tasting! She also told me that they always have wine open for tasting - just ask! Everyone was very friendly and helpful - much better than the service you're going to get in the grocery store - and they even gave our pup a treat. Thanks! read more

After a small purchase I made by credit card during early October, I received a email from Downtown Spirits, notifying me that I had been overcharged for the purchase. It also informed me that my CC would be reimbursed the overcharged amount in a few days. Well, the very next day my CC was credited the overcharged amount! I was very impressed by the honesty of the store, and the fact that the emails were addressed with the owner's name on them! Highly recommended!! I am a new fan of this place for sure. I was looking for a specific sparking wine which they carry and a friend was looking for a special liquor she found what she wanted and then some! They are so friendly, there is plenty of space, things are very well placed and highlighted - you will become euphoric when you walk in before even getting to the back of the space which is stoked full of wines, champagne and specialty beers. This past weekend I enjoyed their second annual champagne showcase. Wow! Truly an awesome event. Be sure to get your tickets in advance, this event sells out and you will risk being turned away from an incredible event. The organizer is visible and available, super friendly and helpful. There were over 11 tables of vendors who were more than happy to share their expertise as they poured and poured and poured. While the event was packed, the guests were friendly making space for everyone to get a try of the truly awesome bottles some of which were very high end. There were heavy snacks in the back area with seating and folks who were very helpful to get a "to go" box started for you. Thanks Peter! If you are looking to make your next party very special and want to make a terrific "house drink" try this place. They will help you create the best and most festive event. My favorite place to buy alcohol in Seattle. Everyone who works here is friendly and knowledgeable, so I'm always learning and discovering something new. Beyond that, they have all my favorite bottles from Botanist Gin and Ransom old gin to four types of High West bourbons and Japanese whisky like Hibiki, Nikka, and Suntory. They'll also have mixers, craft beers, and apertifs for DAYS! Can't get through the Amazon traffic, don't worry...these guys deliver via Drizly too! Either way you do it, you've got a great go to for your next Friday night, backyard party, or just restocking your bar. read more

Aside from being a fairly large sized store where you can purchase beer, wine, liquor, and spirits, there's a bar in the back! There's a daily happy hour from 3-6 that features $1 off beer and wine and on Fridays the often feature a local vendor and offer free, yes FREE, tastings. Beers are also priced really well at $5 a glass, can't beat that in SLU for craft beer. There's a chill vibe (dog friendly) with a few tables for people to sit and enjoy their drinks and catch some sports on tv. They also rotate the taps so you can always try something new. I love coming to this place after work to grab a cold one, it's still a hidden gem and not too crowded. Definitely stop in and check it out, the staff is friendly too and always available to help answer any alcohol related questions. This would easily be a 5 Star place for the beer and vibe, but it gets 4 as the women's bathroom was in pretty bad shape. I was blown away by this place and happy I got to explore here -the vast variety of familiar and unique spirits was kind of mind blowing ...and the space is welcoming, well organized and not too cluttered, and they are also licensed to serve beers and select wines in their small bar /tavern area where people can sip and mingle. Free tastings are held every friday and even more awesome is that it has a small parking lot outside for at least a handful of cars to park free while shopping. The guy who works the Friday beer tasting is super chill and knowledgeable. The lady who works the wine tasting looked up to see if she could order in one of my favorite wines. Unfortunately it is only available from the winery directly, but she recommended something similar that they had in-store. Great customer service! They also carry Spicebox, a spiced Canadian whiskey that I'm a huge fan of. The cashier that took my money was kind of a sassy old fogey that I didn't like very much. But overall I do love this place and will be back. Their growlers have a really cool design of bottles replacing buildings in the Seattle skyline. Oh, and they have their own parking lot. Vendors were closely placed nexted to each, should have been spread out better so that you have room to view & taste. Some weren't number in order. Those of you who were around here before the change will recognize the shelving -- yes, this is one of the old state-run stores, but state-run no more! I was really impressed with the layout and selection. They had a lot of great bitters, and smaller bottles than I've seen before of some liqueurs, like Frangelico, which you don't always need a lot of. The staff was really friendly and helpful, and they have a PARKING LOT. And it's easy to get to. Don't know what more you could ask for from a liquor store than all that! read more

The service was ok but I didn't appreciate that I wasn't told there was no return or exchange policy when I tried to return or exchange a corkscrew THE DAY AFTER I purchased from the RECOMMENDATION of the red- bearded guy that works there . The receipt also doesn't note there is NOT. Return or exchange policy. BEWARE!!He knew I was staying at a hotel and knew I could've asked the hotel but recommended a corkscrew anyway knowing I couldn't return, and I felt I could have returned. Order online, pull up in the designated spot, show your ID through your car window, they pop the booze in your trunk, and away you go! I love the ease of online ordering because I can take my time and pick out what I really want without feeling rushed or anxious in the store. The pickup process couldn't be easier. Customer service is really excellent - they called to let me know something was out of stock and suggested I wait to pick up later in the afternoon after they received a delivery of product. Definitely recommend if you're sipping cocktails or enjoying craft beers through quarantine - they also have a great selection of ginger beer, tonic water (Fever Tree!), and other N/A options.
