I've only really interacted a few employees since if I come by it's usually at the same times, but the ones I've met are all great for a quick/lowkey chat as I check out. However... prices are definitely unusually high here. I usually buy wine and don't mind paying a little extra since I am not picky and buy kinda cheap brands anyway, but I went to pick up a box of High Noons and it rang up for $50. It seems like that brand did recently catch on as pretty trendy, but my goodness. A 12 pack is like just under $30 at the Safeway just six blocks away. read more

She is in obvious need of some professional help. This woman is the definition of a Karen and makes sure her customers know it. To summarize: The people here don't seem to like their jobs and they take it out on the customers. Not to mention the place is overpriced to begin with. This is the best liquor selection and service in CHAZ/CHOP. I was helped by the manager Larisa and another employee named Pat during the hectic COVID-19 + CHAZ/CHOP. These 2 really know their alcohol and are very passionate about it and live in the neighborhood. Larisa is able to get rare whiskeys not found at other stores & can get you any liquor you want. This store also has a clearance section. The friendly service is impeccable & they know how to deal with the riff-raff so I can shop comfortably, despite what's going on in the neighborhood. This is the place to go when going to an event at CHAZ/CHOP, which is how I found myself here. read more

I didn't have any issue with clerks like everyone else is mentioning. Only issue I have is paying $60 for a pint of Don Julio. The worker was very rude to us when we came In yesterday. Automatically assumed that we didn't know liquor laws and told us to learn the laws after she misheard my friend and got upset at us for no reason. My friend was trying to get all of our ids because that's what the lady asked for and she got very mad at her for no good reason. Before the pandemic I used to go into this place every now and again. I went back and holy crap was it different. Staff were not knowledgeable. The prices are insane. Any liquor that has any rarity to it at all has a sky high markup. Many prices were not posted. Saw a bottle of Weller 107 and had to ask the price. MSRP is around $50. They wanted $200 for it. Another bottle of more "normal" scotch that is $100 at retail was $130. This is before Washington State Liquor Tax. There are a few liquor store like this in our area and I will never shop at any of them. They want to treat retail like the secondary market. They do have a lot of bottles, but you have to really want them to take one home. read more

The older white lady that works here kicked me out cus she thought my drivers license was fake because it looked too dark. I told her I've never had this issue before and that I'm 25 I lost my ID so it was reissued in 2019. She conveniently assumed I got a fake ID during covid to say I was 21 when my birthday said 95 so her math wasn't calculating. I told her Ive never had a fake ID nor do I need one and she continued to raise her tone at me in front of several other people falsely accusing me of carrying a fake. Got racially profiled while we were looking around for some specific recommendations from friends. My friend, who happens to have dreadlocks, was specifically pointed out by one of the employees, who said, "we don't have enough employees to keep track of you loitering around the store," before promptly kicking us out and threatening to call the cops on my friend, making up a story of how she threw a drink at her (which didn't happen as I was there the entire time). I've never had a remotely similar experience in any store/restaurant in my life (as a white passing, half Asian, half white individual), and it was absolutely shocking. I go to this store at least twice a week as I live in one of the buildings nearby. The selection of craft beers is great, prices are fair and the staff are extremely friendly while still being efficient. It's rare to find such a committed employee of a convenience store, I'm not sure if she is the owner, but her attention to detail and customer service are unparalleled. NW liquors never disappoints; I love living so close, thanks! Edit: Oh and I actually like the street art exterior, despite the other reviewers' comments that the outside was "ghetto". I give this 4 stars for convenience and the really friendly staff. I think the prices are high, especially when I can go to Trader Joe's down the street and get a bottle of Chandon for 5$ less. I come here when I need something quickly for a gathering or a night in, as this is literally a few blocks from where I live. I do give a lot of credit to the team for keeping this store very clean and well stocked, as well as always being friendly and inviting. Don't be fooled by the run-down exterior! Northwest Liquor & Wine really does have a great selection of all things booze-related. We popped in here on a Friday night to grab a couple of bottles of bitters. We were able to pick up a bottle each of Peychaud's and Angostura for less than what QFC had them for: score! The selection here is more extensive than what you'd find at a QFC or Safeway, but it doesn't come close to rivaling what you can find at Total Wine (my favorite destination for booze-buying in Seattle). Prices are average, but not the cheapest in town. However, this liquor store has an extremely convenient location, free parking (a real draw for folks who need to make a huge liquor/beer run and don't live somewhere with as many offerings), as well as very friendly and helpful staff. It isn't perfect, but it's certainly good enough for a lot of situations. read more

Dropped in on a lark after dinner in the area out of curiosity. After all, I hadn't seen the place since Washington state got out of the liquor and spirits business and was interested to see what changes the new owners had made. A sign out front let me know that in addition to spirits, the store now sells beer, tobacco and snacks. The snacks weren't anything to write home about, but certainly a bonus if you're looking for small munchies. Where the previous location was more open, this new store has a much larger stock of wine and liquor, including double the racks of minis so the aisles seem a little crowded - particularly near the front. What used to be a 5-10 minute scan of the sections you were interested in can now easily be a 15-20 minute browse of different brands, regions, and specialties throughout the store. Pricing was hard to determine. The price tags all still touted that you need to add the state taxes and fees on top of the show price, but the items I purchased were the same as the label. If the price tags are correct, the pricing seems fairly comparable to the old store. If not, everything is more expensive by a decent amount. But in my opinion, the selection and convenience makes up for it as most stores have smaller, more mainstream offerings rather than imports and locally made products. Not sure on how knowledgeable the staff was, as the cashier seemed...well - gas station convenience store friendly. Not rude or anything, but I didn't think seeking out his opinions on vodkas or beers would be welcome or even fruitful. I parked on the street, and wasn't able to determine if they still have the small parking garage next to the building. Generally though, it is to be avoided. Something about the design has made it a hotspot for dings, collisions, and near misses. read more

Well, it's open in the evenings, has a pretty good selection, what else do you want from a liquor store? It was running late on Friday and the rest of the liquor stores seemed to be closing early, so we made a short drive over here. Prices are slightly inflated due to Washington taxes and the recent conversion over from state liquor stores. We picked up some Angry Orchard, Old Rasputin, some other beer, and kind of expensive Bulleit. In and out very quickly and the cashier was quite friendly. read more

I read on CHS the owner is trying to sell the store. That's too bad, but I wonder if pricing competition from the supermarkets proved to be too much for them. I bought a scotch here last week and then today discovered the same one is $20 cheaper at QFC at Pike+Broadway (just a 5 minute walk away). That's a pretty steep price difference. I do like the beer selection at Northwest Liquor, so I would recommend them for that. But it's hard to recommend them for liquor unless you're looking for more exotic liquors that you can't find at the supermarket. Northwest Liquor also isn't upfront about the final cost - they post only the pretax costs, which are substantially different from the final cost when taxes are around 25%. QFC conveniently posts the pre-tax and total costs on all their liquors. (however QFC has a much smaller selection, so it will only work if you're looking for fairly standard stuff). read more

I've been coming here for years for my local wine/beer/liquor needs, and I thought I'd take a moment to tell you how kind and smart their staff is, and how well-stocked their inventory is. There are also tons of yummy non-alcoholic options, if you're stocking up for a party. This store is dog-friendly and offers pups very nice treats. As with any booze store, they keep a good eye on safety, and actually act as a nice watch-dog for the local community, I find. Five stars! Oh, and their wine tastings are fun. read more

We had a great experience at Northwest Liquor. We were visiting from out of state, and wanted some ideas about Washington whiskeys and other possibilities. These folks were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and accommodating. We left with more spirits than we intended, good advice about getting our purchases back home, and an excellent tip: next day we visited Westland Distillery at the clerk's suggestion (and had another great experience). And here's the bonus (for us): not only did they have seven or eight domestic Aquavits, but they had one from Montana! Who knew such a thing even existed? It matters not whether it is fantastic or less-than-fantastic -- we have made a great discovery and look forward to the tasting. read more

Way better than the big chains and a very cool atmosphere. Changing the state law made this happen and Northwest is the best!! After searching for a very special bottle I had contacted the distillery and then the vendor to find where the limited bottles would be sold. I contacted Wine World and they were very illusive as to filling my order...statements like this is a very limited item as though I was not the person they desired to sell it to. This was after placing my special order weeks prior with nothing alluding to a problem. I guess I am naive to think if I place a special order I would then receive the notice and get to purchase. The ironic thing is I called to check if Northwest would receive it on the date the vendor said it would arrive and I find out that they had received their allotment just days prior...you think the sales person from the vendor sold also to Wine World??? I do so WTF?... anyhow I put a couple of bottles on hold at Northwest Liquor & Wine and within the hour I was there to pick it up. The gentleman at the counter was so nice (go figure he sells spirits:))) and also very knowledgable. While there the gentleman at the counter told of how hoarding is common among many when it comes to limited produced items. It seems the owner had received a call from a person from out of state asking for the same item that I desired to be shipped. After being told of a local person coming in to purchase the item it further validated his desire not to ship out of state. Then, when someone behind us was NEAR us, this middle-aged woman employee DEMANDED, I repeat, violently DEMANDED, my ID: As I was holding my purchased alcohol. When I resisted for OBVIOUS reasons, she became insolent and screamed for us to leave. No problem there, but I didn't need the FLICKING OFF (MIDDLE FINGER) she gave me as we left. So we went there to give them our honest business and buy a nice bottle of Chopin to go with medical marijuana. Had a nice conversation at our check out and left happy. Once across the street, we realized we had left a quarter ounce of legally obtained medical marijuana on the counter. Which incidentally was prescribed for my chemotherapy. We ran back in to the store less then a minute after leaving to get it back. The two gentlemen at the counter said that no such bag had been left at the counter, took our number, and insisted another customer took our product. Fortunately for us, a nice bystander over heard our conversation and from the street behind the counter saw the bag we were describing directly in reach of the cashiers right behind their counter. He informed us of what he saw and showed us from behind the glass exactly where the bag was. Understanding the gravity of the situation, my friend took action to retrieve my medical marijuana and saved the day. The fact of the matter is that these men lied to our faces and had indeed stolen with intent our property. Hopefully you never leave anything behind here, because these two men cannot be trusted. Not necessarily the whole store, but the men working at 9:00 pm on Friday July 26th, 2013 lied to their customers and stole their property. read more

Stopped in for something that I just couldn't find elsewhere. Selection was very good in some areas (Scotch), average in others (rum). Staff were perfectly friendly. The one huge, huge downside: though I fought what I needed, their price was much higher than most places around Seattle. I did a nice, long browse through all of the spirits and found that this wasn't an exception, but a rule. We're not talking 5 or 10% above best prices, either, but closer to 25% across the board.
