My go to breakfast spot. I usually call my order ahead and it's always ready when I get there. And they serve Taylor Ham which can be hard to find in NY! The sandwiches are inexpensive and always tasty. Staff is pleasant and they are usually very busy. Giving 4 stars based solely on the food. I come here once a week or so, and every time that I've come here, I've had an unpleasant experience due to the employees. No smiles, no "hi can I help you?" No "have a nice day" or anything along those lines. The food is very good, but I would definitely like to go inside and be treated by employees and owners as if they appreciated my business. I've been going to Downtown Bagels for years and love their bagels. I worked in a bagel cafe so I know a good bagel when I see one. However, part of a good business is the staff. Yesterday while waiting for my bagel I overheard the staff talking about my "resting bitch face." First off, I don't know how you can determine that with me wearing a mask. Second off, I'm a pregnant nurse in a hospital working multiple jobs during a pandemic. I am utterly exhausted and just wanted a bagel to start my busy day. I go here almost 4 times a week, there sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on a garlic bagel is amazing! And there ice coffee, don't get me started they actually use coffee ice cubes, it's delicious! Downtown bagels has delicious food but we had an unfair experience. We came in around 7:30 and placed our order to eat there , many more customers came in before us and got there orders . My fiancé asked what was going on with our order and the lady at the counter said "the grill was having a problem", but yet some of the people ordered bacon egg and cheese and sausage egg and cheese.Our food did not come until ,7:57.Hopefully next time we come we won't have to wait for our order that long again.But when I did go up to pay the lady told me she'd take care of it since we were waiting long. Made a large order to go. Upon paying with credit card receipt was held by middle aged cashier and not given to me. Upon receipt of food, requested receipt. Request was met with frustration. Ten minutes later handed a photocopy. Requested original and younger girl stated "you should make her move to the end of the line and wait." Requested refund was told no at first by older woman secondary to her having made the order. I cited the overt rudeness and insisted on my refund which was given. Older woman did not make me pay for the bagel and sandwich my son had already had which is one reason my review is not one star. The other reason is that their food is quite delicious. This place has excellent food, but the people behind the counter are quite nasty. Upon walking in I received dirty looks from the girls behind the counter, as if I were an inconvenience. I didn't even get a smile or a hello. After placing my order, I stood there waiting to pay with the rest of the items I picked up, while other people ordered their food. After paying I had to actually ask for a plastic bag and the woman rolled her eyes then stuck my items in a bag. My sandwich was excellent but overall the attitudes in there need an adjustment, then it would be 5 stars. I wish there were another place close to home. read more

Ordered avocado egg & cheese on a bagel (which I have ordered from them before) & I got the most bland egg and cheese sandwich ever. They neglected to informed me they didn't have avocado until after we discovered that there was no avocado put on it, they weren't even going to say anything!! Good food. But the one thing that's been pissing me off lately is the cleanliness. I come in, order my food and there is nowhere to sit! All tables are dirty. Chairs are dirty. Garbage still on tables and floors. I normally sit for an hour tops and not one time does the staff come around and clean off the tables. I shouldnt have to do it myself for me to sit down. Had passed this place many times but kept forgetting it was there until we were on the search for a quick breakfast one Saturday morning. It is quite a large place with many tables inside and a number of refrigerators housing different types of drinks. The bagels were thick and shiny which hopefully meant they were boiled and then baked. I placed my order and moved to the side - I didn't really know where to stand and people kept asking me if I was in line - so I moved again. The girl who made up my order put it at the counter and walked away. Huh? Why she didn't call out the order or even look at me to let me know it was ready surprised me. And at this point I had to get on line again to pay for my order because there were a bunch of people milling about and I didn't feel comfortable "cutting". When I got to the counter the same girl who made up my order was standing there and asked if I was ordering or paying - and I pointed to my bag and said "I think this is mine - if it is - then I'm paying". All in all the bagels were pretty good - I had a plain with butter and a cinnamon raisin with cream cheese - the plain bagel was good and it was still warm, the cinnamon raisin bagel while quite large wasn't boiled enough so it was a bit cakey, but it was good quality butter and cream cheese. I would go here again for bagels for sure and breakfast sandwiches also but next time will stand closer to the counter so I can immediately pay rather than wait in line again. read more

Such a shame that such a yummy deli has such HORRENDOUS customer service. I have yet to encounter a smiling face. They do not greet you or even look at you while taking your order. Their everything bagels should be named nothing bagels because all you can taste is the salt. Their poppy seed bagels have enough poppy seeds on them to poison you. The food is okay, but the service is bad. Every time I go in I try to give the place another chance, but it's always chaotic. They have one line for ordering food and then after you eat there is another line to pay for your food. Each line is at least 15 minutes long and time I will never get back. Tables were not cleaned! I waited 40 minutes for a bagel and then they blamed me for not claiming it when it was ready. When I finally got the bagel there was barely any egg or bacon. I'm actually really surprised that this place has stayed in business for this long. read more
