This was my first and only time going. I was so excited to try many things. The customer service was great quick I ordered a toasted bagel with cream cheese with two different cream cheeses, which was good. Then I ordered an egg sandwich and it was very small and dry. Not happy with the service here at all. Placed an order for bagels on Tuesday 2/24 and pick up Wednesday 2/25. They asked for time of pick up, which I said as 9 am. I gave list of bagel types and paid. Came in to pick up and no order could be found. Told me if I really wanted bagels I should have come in earlier. Why accept order and time if you cannot promise you can fill the order. And I paid ahead. Consistently one of the best places in Newburgh to get a solid breakfast sandwich or one of the home made specialties at the crack of dawn. If you're into meat, potato egg and the condiments onto a breakfast roll definitely go with a hobo, a bobo or a sobo ( ham, bacon or sausage respectively) they are pretty busy so you can always call ahead for some great service for that pickup or sit down at their ample seating area. Very friendly atmosphere and you can pick up your own juice or drink at the coolers at the back of the restaurant. They also do some great bialys here if you're looking for that. read more

My favorite bagel place. The bagels are perfectly chewy and fresh. When I moved to Newburgh after living in Brooklyn for 14 years, I was SO happy to find this place. The owner is delightful, the staff is lovely. I love the photos of the giant bagel. Today I popped in quick for a bagel with plain cream cheese as I ran to an appointment. The place was empty instead of the usual lines and full tables. I noticed 2 notes stuck up on the various partitions side by side stating due increase prices for supplies that they cost have gone up. That's understandable, what is Not is getting a bagel that is mostly bread and not much cream cheese! I hate that! It was like eating a plain bagel!! I guess that plain cream cheese cost too much. The other note prominently displayed everywhere. Basically said if a customer is on their phone while they're on the line to order, they will be passed over by the staff to the next person. That's extremely rude and customer unfriendly. If the next person happens to be on the phone, they should be asked what they would like and if they're unresponsive then by all means go to the next person...that is not the way the note reads! Very disappointed! I won't be going back. I wrote this review while outside eating my bread and and randomly one person at a time once there were two that happened to pull up. Thank God we came across this place, on my way to do some morning shopping and was in the mood for coffee, as we drove by I glanced and seen this bagel spot. Amanda (sweet and super friendly employee) who took our order let it be known that EVERYTHING was delicious. All Thier bagel looked fresh so I orders onion bagel lightly toasted with a little but of cream cheese, two slices of tomatoes and crispy bacon. To say the least I get excited when they get my order correct and not to mention my bagel was very good. My husband had a philly cheese, I kinda of side eyed him as to why get a philly cheese at a bagel spot but, I was wrong because it was so delicious!!!!!!!!!. The fresh bagels are so incredibly good. So far all the food I've tried is freshly made like my mom cooked it. Although one time they did give me a bagel with expired cream cheese, I still go and nothing like that has ever happened again! One thing I will say though is if you try to call in it can get annoying because the line seems like it's busy. read more

I have been ordering from this place for years because it is very close to home and food has been really good. Over the last year though, steadily declining. I mean how freaking hard is it to make a buffalo chicken wrap with avocado?? At first there was a few cutlets of chicken, now its maybe one whole one. I loathe mayo and they've added 3x without me telling them to. Icing on the cake, today they put a tiny sliver of turned avocado on only half my wrap. I won't be wasting anymore money at this place. came here Monday for a late lunch, I was greeted pretty quickly and I noticed a lot of workers there cleaning and organizing. I ordered a philly cheese steak hero for my lunch and cashier said have a seat and I will send it your way. so after waiting I got my sandwich, it was made very fresh and piping hot. the bread was slightly toasted, the steak was sautéed and seasoned perfectly. the onions and peppers were sautéed well and were not overdone like I had with other philly sandwiches. I wish I had had more mushrooms in my sandwich as only thing to make it better. cheese was melted and evenly in the sandwich. I feel like it was fairly priced for $6.75 since other for that size elsewhere would be like 7-9$. interested in trying more their on another visit. read more

I have NEVER been disappointed with my bagel. They are large and crisp and soft and chewy all at the same time. My favorite is an everything bagel but I am not adverse to any of them except poppyseed and only because they get stuck in my teeth for days. You can eat in or take it out. Add an egg in the morning or cream cheese or lox.... This place has gone downhill over the past few years. Is the food good, yes, but the service is slow and workers/owners give off a vibe like they don't want to be there anymore. They barely have any chips, don't offer any napkins and overall the place looks like it's running on the bare minimum. It's a shame because this is really the only good bagel place around. read more

I would give 0 stars if they had it. I drove 15 minutes to this place and waited in ten minutes on line. Only once I got to the counter to order, they told me they had no bagels left. In disbelief, I looked at the bagel bins behind the glass counter and there really was zero bagels in there. Wouldn't a bagel store at least put a note on the door before entering stating "no bagels!" Or signs inside that day no bagels left? There really is no other reason to stay open if your MAIN INGREDIENT...BAGELS...are not there? Such a pathetic, horribly run place. I highly recommend going somewhere else for bagels. I will put a similar review here as I did for their other location on Mew Windsor "Miracle Bagels". If their bagels weren't so good and they didn't make the best western omelet in the area I would, without a doubt, stop coming here. They have a serious communication breakdown from when an order is taken and then the ticket is given to the cook. I don't ask for anything out of the ordinary when I order and I order often. I simply want American cheese in my western omelet. Apparently this is a BIG ask, because I cannot count how many times I've ordered and them gotten my breakfast without cheese. It happens ALL THE TIME! Today, when I brought my breakfast back to the counter to let them know they forgot to our cheese in it, there was no apology. When it came back out.. they just put 2 slices of American cheese on top of the omelet instead of inside... The bagels are delicious and I love the western omelet when cooked correctly, but their inability to get my orders correct is unbelievable. Find me a better bagel and omelet and I'm gone! read more

We opted for the "everything" bagels. I went for the bacon, egg and cheese while she opted for the lox cream cheese spread. Although crispy, both everything bagels were on the saltier side. They were good, but for 2 bagels our bill was $8. We came around brunch time, and there was a steady crowd coming and going. And even despite the rush, the wait time wasn't bad. Downtown bagel is a good bagel spot in Newburgh. I usually get a bacon egg and cheese from here. There bacon egg and cheeses have more bacon then egg and cheese. The bacon is always Crispy. They only use 1 egg on there sandwiches. For $3.50 that's ok. But I have been to other delis where for the same price you get 2 eggs. There are tables inside ( no outdoor seating). On the weekends it is hard to find a open table. They have news papers to choose from. Overall this is a solid bagel and bacon egg and cheese spot. Just be mindful they only use 1 egg. read more

Usually the bagels and service are great. I'm not sure if they were having a rough day or not. The woman who made my bagel took some sort of anger out on my bagel. The bottom wasn't cut through all the way and the top was in thirds. I know it's not supposed to be a beautiful masterpiece, however it being torn like this made it difficult to eat. read more

Aaaaaaaaaand... I'm out. I frequent this spot because it is oh so close to my house. After today, I am putting a life time BAN on it. I was in yesterday before the morning rush and went in today during the morning rush. Both days I was in shock and awe, the amount of time it takes them to complete an order makes me believe the cook top is only able to handle one item at a time... they must have to cook one egg, then one piece of bacon, then the home fries. That is the only way it would make sense that I had to sit in the shop for 30 minutes this morning and 20 minutes yesterday after placing my order. I know what you're thinking as you're reading this, and I agree, I don't mind waiting for quality food. Both yesterday and today I was served cold sandwiches leading me to believe my sandwich sits after being ready. This is not the first time this has happened to me by any means. You don't have to take my word for it, I attached a picture clearly showing the cheese wasn't melted on today's sandwich. Any-well. I would feel bad about this, but this seems to be the norm. If you don't believe me, go in and sit by the door for a bit. 15 people walked in and turned right around to walk out while I was waiting today. A group of young men asked 3 times where their food was, and a couple that walked in 10 minutes after I ordered asked where their food was shortly before my order was called... If we don't post honest reviews they will never change, and they will continue to lose business. If my half an hour experience today was an accurate cross section they lose a potential customer once every 2 minutes. Allow me to give you some quick math on that; Let's assume the breakfast rush is between 8-12 (I have been in their many times between those hours and they are always busy). Let's assume an average ticket price per customer is $5 (My ticket today was $8 but I got extra egg and extra bacon). 1 lost customer every 2 minutes. 120 lost customers per morning. 6,240 lost customers per weekend (Saturday and Sunday Mornings) $31,200 in lost revenue each year without factoring in weekdays. The really sad part about this is when the sandwich is good it is one of the better spots in Newburgh. Sadly, that is probably 1 out of every 4 times I go, and I simply don't want to continue to pay (or wait) for something that is only good 25% of the time. In closing, if you're the type of person who likes to wait 30 minutes to eat cold food and listen to other customers complain about how long they have been waiting... Down Town Bagels is the spot for you! If you, like me, don't like that... I would keep driving and try to find what seems to be the Holy Grail for Newburgh (a great spot for breakfast). read more
