My expectations were not met...
First the good:
The restaurant is great, wait staff is superb and the food was wonderful.
Spa and amenities are very nice. Great massages. Great staff.
Beds were comfortable enough. Pillows were just OK. Towels were fine.
Of course we asked for, and were put in a pet-friendly cabin. It appears that this is a euphemism for tired and beat up. I guess that a while back some jerk had a dog in this cabin, left it alone, locked it in all the rooms, and it scratched up the doors and jams. (This is the kind of moron that ruins things for responsible pet owners.) Needless to say, the Double Eagle owners never fixed all the damage, so the areas by the doors look awful.
The Bathroom is terrible... The toilet seat has the paint worn off, the bathroom sink is cracked-up, the faucets work poorly, and the room is cramped and terribly lit (no light in the shower and a forest green bath curtain blocks most of the light from outside). The 'exhaust fan' has a burn mark on it and sounds like a jet engine. There is only one bath towel bar.... no hooks and the cabinetry is pathetic.
The heating system bangs loudly as it cools down and heats up. The general condition of the cabin is in serious need of an update. Hardly first rate... though the cost would lead you to believe otherwise. And that's where I have a real problem.
The carpet is stained and bad. Our boy was attracted to a couple particular areas as if they had never been cleaned.
Our appliances were old and beat. Our refrigerator died and killed some of our food... The fridge had to be replaced... a real hassle. Though, they were very nice and apologetic about it.
Our smoke detector battery died, so that sucker was beeping constantly until changed... don't they do this annually so this doesn't happen?
Now, I realize that updates cannot be performed all at once without shutting down the entire facility... or a good part of it. I realize that there is a cost to upgrades, but the place was completely booked, and for what they charge, they've got to be pulling in some good cash. We made our reservations months in advance when little was booked (July for October), and at the time I was NOT given a choice of 'Old beat up cabin' or 'New, first-rate cabin'. Hmmm. For the same price, which would you pick? Also... we are staying 6 nights! No multi-night discount, no upgraded cabin. Paying the same for this dilapidated hovel that someone pays for a 5-star cabin is wrong. Make a tiered pricing system. Ask the prospective guests "Old for cheap, or Class for more"? You'll get takers for both, and those who pay less will get less, and that makes sense. We paid the same rate as a first-rate cabin, and felt ripped-off.
We voiced these issues and concerns to the staff. And in doing so asked if the 'new' cabins were pet friendly. They (or some) apparently are. Then we asked why we were put in this older one. I guess it was just random and since we didn't know better, we didn't know that there were a couple different 'classes' of cabins so we couldn't request one of the nicer ones. They did not offer to move us when a newer cabin cleared
They said there is wi-fi, but I couldn't get a signal in the cabin or restaurant.
So... we'd like to return, but next time we'll ask for a new cabin. You should too.
