The outside of Doshi Sushi is very unsuspecting. It looks like any strip mall sushi but upon entering you're greeted by a beautiful restaurant. I loved the rooms for each party. It was private and intimate. We were told you press a button on the table for your server to come so it was efficient and pretty soon after pushing the button an employee would come. We got the gyoza. We asked our server June Lee what meet was in it and she said "all", we pressed further and discovered it is all meat but no shrimp. They were good! Still unsure what that means though. The edamame was usual and a decent portion. It's always a safe bet. Miso soup is given to everyone complimentary. This was thoughtful and it was one of the best miso soups I've had. Very rich. The woman serving the soup was kind and warm. For entrees I got the Dancing with the Stars with no cream cheese which was great. Very big portion and beautiful. A slight fishy taste, but I was so hungry I didn't mind. The Donkatsu Don unfortunately fell really short. It was flavorless no matter the soy sauce added. The vegetables were great but not enough to hold up the meal. It didn't look like any Donkatsu I've had. After a few bites we chose to just get a box. We enjoyed trying their rendition but would not get again. The only thing that will keep us from going back to Doshi to try something else would be the service. We felt more of an inconvenience and rushed by our server. She would visibly roll her eyes when we would ask for something or have a question about the menu. This is a totally unassuming spot - it's basically in a strip mall. All the servers are incredibly attentive. It is a Korean spot so expect the greetings and Korean side dishes to come out with your meal. The fried fish cake side dish definitely overshadowed the radish dish. Savory fish cakes in a sesame oil marinade. The fish is SO fresh. That's all you want from a sushi spot really, letting the fish shine. The real star is the the shrimp tempura. I have thought about this dish every day since I've had it. The batter is light and ultra crunchy, yet the shrimp inside is still soft and delicate. I honestly didn't even need the sauce it comes with for dipping. I didn't want to swallow because I needed to savor every bite. Not only have their prices have stayed consistent over the last 2 years but their quality of service and food has also been terrific. FOOD: their flounder katsu ($16 lunch special includes 2 large crispy pieces + miso soup) was so delicious. In addition, they have whole ranges of sushi lunch specials ranging from $16-50 depending on the quantity desired. SERVICE: waiters are always sharp, work on a team and very bright. I am so disappointed in our experience here. I wanted to do family dinner tonight and we don't get to do that too often, so I wanted to chose just the right spot. I really missed the mark. The service was terrible and the food was only slightly above the service. The ambiance was cute and everything looked promising. The server that came to the table did not even smile and told us that we need to get her order in by 8:50. It was only 815. So we felt kind of rushed from the start. We quickly chose food and placed our orders. I ordered a sushi roll called Big Sexy, my boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki, and my daughter ordered chicken fried rice and a salmon nigiri. We also ordered a side of spicy mayo, which was not spicy whatsoever. I should also mention that it was incredibly quiet in the restaurant. I guess I know why now. That should've been our clue to leave. My daughter tried the nigiri and was very quiet about how it was so that was telling in itself. My roll was okay, not great but edible. The rice was pretty fresh. My boyfriend gave his teriyaki chicken 3 stars. My daughter's fried rice was inedible. The chicken was pure rubber and the rice tasted like mush. I could not eat more than one bite. My boyfriend tried it and agreed. When the check came, we told the server that the rice was not good. I could not eat more than one bite. Doshi Sushi Japanese Restaurant exceeded my expectations. What I've usually experienced at sushi restaurants in Duluth is OK-to-good sushi. What I got at Doshi Sushi was great sushi. And great service. This place gets a solid four stars out of me, maybe even five. When it comes to casual, non-upscale sushi, Doshi Sushi delivers. At the time of writing this review, I'd rank Doshi Sushi in my top three sushi restaurants in Gwinnett County along with Yuki Izakaya and old-school, tried-and-true, Haru Ichiban. My friend and I really enjoyed our experience here. Doshi Sushi opened in July 2018 in McDaniel Square, the same shopping center as Orange Coffee, Kung Fu Tea, MJ Korean Tacos & Wings, and Honey Pig. If facing the storefronts, Doshi Sushi is all the way on the right. Longtime Atlantans familiar with this strip may remember a number of restaurants in Doshi Sushi's space, suite 308. Most recently, this space was occupied by Skoy Sushi Japanese Restaurant (opened July 2017: https://bit.ly/3AwvAvO) and Naru Sushi Japanese Restaurant (opened September 2009: https://bit.ly/3hD4yKv). Before Naru, I believe it was Chung Hae (https://bit.ly/2VftxfD). What do Doshi, Skoy, Naru, and Chung Hae have in common? They were/are Korean-owned-and-operated Japanese sushi restaurants. If you're not familiar, these Korean-Japanese sushi restaurants are a little different from straight-up Japanese sushi restaurants. A big difference is they serve banchan (Korean side dishes) like kimchi and spicy stew. During our visit here, all of the servers were older Korean ladies who pushed carts around, typical of traditional Korean restaurants. Other Korean restaurant characteristics that Doshi Sushi has are private dining rooms, tall booths (for privacy), server call buttons at every table, and gochujang (Korean red chili paste) as a standard condiment. They put the latter in a red squeeze bottle like ketchup and label it "hot sauce." We visited on a Monday just before noon (the restaurant opens at 11:30am daily) and by the time we left, the restaurant had filled to capacity and there was a wait. I didn't realize how popular this place was. The male manager and all-female wait staff appeared well-trained and hyper-attentive. There was an energy about them and I think that they themselves were preparing for what they knew was going to be a busy lunch service (and it was). They all spoke Korean and English. Everyone greeted us in Korean before realizing we couldn't speak it. I'd also called this restaurant a couple times to confirm hours and was greeted in Korean both times. We got our orders in before the rush and our orders came out fast. The lunch menu is offered 11:30am to 2:30pm, seven days a week. It features mostly set meals and combos, ranging in price from about $15 to $40 per person. Many options are dine-in-only. Along with the lunch menu, we could also order from what one of our servers called the "sushi bar menu." It consisted of the typical slip of paper / paper form where you mark what you want. In addition, we received a large laminated one-page menu with pictures of Americanized sushi rolls. Here's what we got: * Sushi Lunch Combo ($15) - 6 pieces of nigiri, shrimp tempura roll, salad, small udon noodles * Bagel Roll ($7) - cut into 8 pieces; smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese * Chef's Special Lunch for One Person, Dine-In Only ($40) - 11 pieces of sashimi, 5 pieces of nigiri, fish roe over rice, spicy fish soup * Otoro ($17) - 2 pieces of nigiri, very fatty tuna In general, the quality of the sushi was great. I appreciated that Doshi Sushi offered both otoro (the fattiest part of the bluefin tuna belly) and chutoro (medium fatty tuna belly) on their sushi menu. Not only that, but my Chef's Special Lunch came with otoro sashimi, chutoro nigiri, and sake toro (fatty salmon belly). Toros all around. I had ordered otoro nigiri on the side because often with chef's specials, especially at non-upscale sushi restaurants, the chef's selections are cheap cuts of fish. This was not the case at Doshi Sushi and I really appreciated that. The otoro, chutoro, and sake toro were smooth like butter. They melted in my mouth as good toro should. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my day and, in terms of texture, this was one of the richest sushi meals I've had. It was perhaps too fatty -- I didn't think that was possible. Other fish included kampachi (amberjack), flounder body, and flounder fin. Each piece of nigiri had a bit of real wasabi on top. It was quality stuff. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and "authentic." I really liked the "spicy fish soup." It was a spicy red Korean stew with a fish head (jaw and teeth included) and vegetables, like enoki mushrooms, in it. The broth was wonderful. It was hot, savory, and packed with addictive flavor. The fish roe over rice contained marinated seaweed and three different colors of roe over sushi rice. It was a nice side dish in case the rest of the meal wasn't filling enough. read more

I went to Doshi Sushi with my family for dinner and was quite disappointed with both the quality and the quantity of the food. First of all, the banchan(side dishes) did not taste good. The kimchi was especially very bitter. Also, the food was very overpriced and the serving size was smaller than what I had expected. I got the eel donburi and the sauce tasted like it had too much alcohol from maybe mirin(?) idk what it was but it had a weird after taste. My mom got the mulhoe( spicy sashimi dish) and it had very little sashimi. The spicy soup was too sweet and I wasn't impressed with the quality of the sashimi.. it almost felt like I wasn't even eating sashimi. Doshi Sushi is one my new go-to spots for quality sushi in Duluth. It's located on Old Norcross Rd near Pleasant Hill Rd. It replaced either one or two other similar sushi restaurants that inhabited the same location. I think it's safe to say this one is here to stay. The interior is very traditional and has lots Japanese inspired influences. The table are setup individually with a sushi bar in the middle surrounded by single tables which themselves are surrounded by private dining rooms that guests can use as well if they want a more intimate setting. The menu is mostly Japanese based, but there is a mix of Korean options as well so there is sort of a fusion with the options that are offered. The prices are a bit high, but you get a good amount accompanying dishes to make it worth the price. You can see the menu for yourself, so I won't go into too much details there. What you want to know, it's how the quality of the fish when it comes to the sushi and sashimi, and I'll tell you right now, it's high quality and it's definitely fresh and that's hard to say for most of the sushi restaurants in the area. What I mostly like about this place on top of the quality sashimi, is all the extra side dishes that accompany most meals. They offer these combo packages on the menu, that people should definitely take advantage of especially if you're coming with a party, you get a variety of Japanese and Korean side dishes that ranges from soups, salads, fried fish, tempuras, kimchi, etc. More than I can recall that makes sure you leave feeling extra satisfied. 3 things about this place: 1. Very nice place with great environment. Everyone was friendly and the waitress led me to a private room which I liked. 2. Summer Flounder deluxe was ordered for 2 people, lobster sashimi and odari (live shrimp). Came with great small dishes before the sashimi and other side seafood items came out. As you can see in the pictures, all the dishes except lobster and live shrimps were $100. That is a great deal with the quality of food that you are getting. Flounder sashimi and lobster sashimi were all fantastic and at the end, they brought the spicy fish soup and rice with fish roe on top to finish off the course. The best way to finish a meal at a sashimi place. Also, after each item they bring you, cleaning your palate with the white kimchi they give you is the best way to start the next course. 3. Everything was great but one minor thing was that for the sashimi, 1 abalone and 1 sea squirt cut in half came to the table when the deluxe was for 2 people. Would have been better if they just brought 2 items for both abalone and sea squirts. Overall, I was very satisfied with the experience and felt like I was back in Korea.
