There's a lot going on amidst the reviews of Dortoni, but I want my own write up to really focus on the here and now and the bakery aspect of this place (which by the way, is quite good). My wife and I have been here a few times and found Dortoni to be delightfully delicious. Well, for the most part. On our first trip we tried a whole bunch of different baked goods (pastries, cookies, crumbs, cakes, etc.), though one thing we were excited about was their take on the Dubai chocolate sensation via the form of a cake. Unfortunately, it kind of missed the mark, but if you take that snafu aside, everything else at Dortoni is fantastic. For instance, my wife's new favorite dessert is their cheesecake waffle cone (which is exactly what it sounds like). For me, I loved the key lime bomb which was out of this world. There's just a great selection of stuff here that makes you curious as to what they'll have each time you enter. Beyond the baked goods, I will say the staff has been super friendly. Both visits they were helpful, gave suggestions, and (though it was close to closing) offered us some rolls free of charge. It doesn't take a lot to make you feel welcome and they do more than that which is nice to see. Perhaps you won't see what is nothing more than a few tables inside this small spot that you can sit at, but I wouldn't say this is a horrible turnoff. Yeah, maybe Dortoni isn't your bakery/cafe that's going to be a place you stay and enjoy your goods, but it's definitely worth some items to-go. Overall, Dortoni in Port Jeff earns a visit. There are other locations (perhaps even one closer to me) that I might have to check out, but even if I do, I'll at least know that the quality and service in PJ is top notch. I'd gladly return here in the future (and I probably will knowing my wife's new obsession) and you should too! read more

The one particular woman working was not just indifferent but openly rude, dismissive, and argumentative. She actually refused to serve me and gaslit me that it was my fault. First things first, their customer service was phenomenal. Thank you to the girls that helped us pick out a cake for my brother in law's birthday this evening. Such sweethearts. One of the girls gave us a sample of their hot chocolate and I was blown away. Delicious! Highly recommend when you're in port Jefferson station. I stopped by earlier today for the first time and right off the bat I was intrigued by their selection of cookies and cakes. I have a major sweet tooth and I had to get my mittens on their raspberry tart cookie, I know there's a different name for it but lol so amazing. Freshly made cookies! My absolute favorite bakery on Long Island (either location!) The best loaves of bread (we go for the sourdough), the best cakes, and the BEST black and white cookies. Always fresh, always delicious. Dortoni Bakery I am very disappointed with Dortoni in Port Jeff. I have lived for many years in Nassau County and have always purchased cakes from Dortoni in Levittown for so many important occasions, baptisms, communion, birthdays, ​​and more! I have relocated to Suffolk County and was so happy Dortoni opened up their Port Jefferson location, which is close to me. I am planning a small 2nd wedding and requested over 2 weeks ago, a cake tasting for my fiancé and I and still have not received any response back from them. I gave them 2 weeks and then followed up again with them and still no reply. It's really ashame since the other competing bakeries in the area not only replied back right away but we even had our tastings completed with them. Celebrated 50th anniversary at Danfords, Port Jefferson. I had in mind what I wanted and they were able to accommodate my request. Cake on top of cake tier with cup cakes with white and gold decoration. It look so pretty and best of all tasted wonderful. Sesame rolls we purchased were stale...very disappointed we received day old rolls that were hard in the center. Service was fine, cleanliness was good. Rainbow cookies, cheese danish and butter cookies were ok, but not nearly as good as other bakeries on the Island. Cakes in the case looked good, but did not get to try them. I had placed an order for my sons graduation party for a simple cake went over it with the lady and everything seemed good to go I paid that day(200$) for not that big of a cake. I returned a week later to make a small change on his name the young women was a great help and changed what I requested. I come to pick up the cake and the piping on top and bottom was not what I requested and the name was the original not what I requested. After expressing my concern the young lady asked me if I'd like to change it, but then the cake wouldn't look right and could mess it up. I have been a loyal customer of downtown Port Jefferson Bakery for over 20 years dating back to when it was La Bonne (same owners). During the Holiday season (Thanksgiving - Easter) I always bought their outstanding Italian Grain Pie ( Pastiera Napoletana ). Unfortunately, this year it was made terrible, instead of the wheat/grain being mixed in a smooth consistency with the filling it looked more like a layer cake with the bottom half a mixture of grain and filling the the top half only filling. I went back to the Bakery twice to question them if this was an unfortunate mistake or is this the "new" way of them making it. Both times they stated that is the way it is made. In fairness to the Owners if they read this review hopefully they will verify that it was a mistake! I will say that all of their other products are still outstanding and hopefully they will address this unique Italian delicacy. read more

As you walk into the bakery, you're hit with a sweet smell that takes me back to my childhood and captivated by the amazing displays of cakes and treats at the front. They showcase their amazing cake making/decorating skills which almost tempted me to place an order, but I came for the cheesecake. You know its good if you buy a cheesecake for no special occasion. ***Highly recommend you call ahead because they can run out*** We called ahead so we had a cake on hold for my friends and I. This cheesecake is very similar to a japanese style cheesecake from my personal experience. It isn't too sweet and the cake itself is dense but also soft and light in taste. It almost feels healthy because of how mildly sweet it is, which is perfect for me. The fruit on top is incredibly fresh and secured by a soft egg custard, giving this cake a creamy texture on top. After this first cheesecake my friends and I actually went back two more times the following week for the cheesecake with fruit and the cheesecake by itself. Both are amazing and pretty cheap for what it is. I believe one cake was around 28$ and it could easily feed 10 people. Their cannolis are also to die for and piped fresh. If you like your pastries heavy... The hot cross buns were small, dense balls of compact dough. Tough and over-baked. I know buns are not an Italian thing, but why sell them if you can't bake the them? The croissants are terrible. Heavy, with a strange, artificial flavor. The sfogliatelle look impressive with the lamination, but the pastry is literally sharp, it's like trying to eat razor blades. Also a very odd, artificial flavor to the filling, like aftershave. I have spent a lot of money at this place for custom cakes, and will now never go back after my encounter with a manager there. After booking a custom cake months in advance of the day of service, and agreeing on me bringing the decorations for the cake a week beforehand so they can decorate the cake, I am told with a huge attitude that the policy has changed and they no longer do this. I never recieved a phone call telling me this, or any kind of communication, and was left thinking they would decorate the cake. The manager proceeds to tell me that I have the picture and to go decorate it myself, and that they dont have to update me on anything they do. After our lovely conversation she then tells me that she can take it the day of and they can decorate it. I thankfully did not trust her and said I will be back with the receipt to get my money back and go elsewhere. When I go back I am told this is not accurate and I would have been left with a non decorated cake the day of the party. Extremely unprofessional, rude, disgusting, and extremely disrespectful in front on my 2 year old, and other people in the bakery. Terrible service. Went to order a wedding cake. We were the first people to enter and told them we wanted to order a wedding cake. Counter person went to get the woman who was going to help us. We stepped away and let the next person in line order. The cake woman came out and took an order from that person. Horrendous experience. They charged me $65 for a cake that looked nothing like what I ordered. They refused to help me in any way after even agreeing that it didn't look like what I ordered. He had one of the girls from the bakery call me to tell me that he said they don't offer refunds. What a joke. They had a name change for this place, I've been coming here for years for all their baked goodies. I stopped in on Saturday to buy fresh breakfast croissants. All of their breads are wonderful, its really a nice community bakery. Their breads are great but if you really want to impress, get a cake/pie and bring it to your neighbors house for some coffee. In this case, you can judge this book by it's cover. It is a quaint, free standing building located just up the block from the Bridgeport Ferry. The inside is just as pretty. Their pastries and cakes are phenomenal! Thanks to this establishment for doing a stellar job on the wedding cake as well as all the other delicious cakes and pastries for our son and daughter in law' s wedding.
